The grinder was good & had plenty of meat. I thought it was a bit salty but friend didn't notice. Fries were tasty. The waitress was the only worker & did a good job of keeping up. The table could've used a good scrub. Menus could use a refresh. We had plastic silverware--perhaps a change post Covid? A nice stop off the bike path.

The patio is nice, the location is great, and the weekly specials and prices are still fair. On this visit, I believe we got some complimentary chips and salsa, and I ordered the Southwest Eggrolls for $9.99. The eggrolls were awesome. Most of the time we are here more for drinks, sunshine, and a patio break than a full meal, but the food we have had has been good. That said, Founders can be a little hit or miss. Service really depends on who is working, and the patio and patio games are starting to feel a little tired. I get it -- good help is hard to find, and it is probably tough to predict how busy any given night will be. We forgive you, and we will likely be back again and again. My honest note to ownership would be this: take a close look at the place and do not let it slip much further toward the "dive bar" category. The location is a gold mine, especially for cyclists and patio people. A little freshening up outside and some staff training on drink making and beer selection would go a long way. Still a good stop, still fair prices, and still a place we will keep coming back to -- just hoping it gets a little love before it slides too far.

I went just before 8 pm on a Thursday night and was the only dine-in customer. There were some people standing outside talking, but other than a couple of carry-out customers there weren't many people there. The seating area was immaculate and they let me sit wherever I wanted. The server brought me a menu immediately. I ordered Mongolian beef. Meals come with rice, soup, and a spring roll. I ordered the egg drop soup and friend rice. The soup and spring roll came out almost immediately. I noticed that the soup wasn't just egg. There were actually pieces of carrots and celery in it, and it wasn't too salty like a lot of restaurant soups are. The spring roll had a crisp, flaky crust. I was so glad it wasn't soggy with oil. The main dish came out before I could finish my soup and before I could even touch the spring roll. The beef had a good flavor, and best of all it was not drowning in oil or some kind of sauce. I appreciated the food and the good service. I plan to come back soon and bring some more people with me.

After a few minutes, our waitress came over and we placed our order. I have been here multiple times before and their house made cheeseburger soup is AWESOME. A must get if you stop in. My partner and I just wanted to split a few things so we ordered the Grazianos Italian Nachos as a started and split a bowl of cheeseburger soup and a Pork Tenderloin Sandwich. Our waitress caught on to us splitting and without requesting, split the "bowl" of soup into 2 cups without charging us extra and even split the sandwich and fries between 2 plates and gave us each the fixings and an extra bun ALL FOR NO EXTRA COST. It was such a nice gesture, we were so surprised and hadn't even thought to ask. We made sure to leave a generous tip for the hospitality. Food was hot, fresh, and tasty! Sandwich was huge (a must for a tenderloin sandwich) and the cheeseburger soup was delicious as always. The inside of the restaurant has a fun townie bar vibe to it, which I find quite charming. All in all, a great experience and I'll always come back for that soup!

So, we ventured down the bike trail from Ankeny to Bondurant to try a restaurant we hadn't previously visited. It's a cute little spot in a strip mall off Highway 330, but we arrived on bikes via the back streets. We had the choice of the patio, the main seating area, or the bar. We chose the bar so we could watch all the activity. The place was about half full, but it was eerily quiet, so we jokingly asked where the mariachi band was. The hostess eventually turned on some music, but we could barely hear it, which left us feeling a little less festive. The service was a bit slow, even though they weren't very busy--especially considering what day it was. We actually witnessed some ladies leave after being ignored for too long. I'm not sure what was going on there. But one friendly waiter finally brought us a first round of margaritas ($7.59 on special) and some chips and salsa (complimentary). The margaritas were big and delicious! The chips were fresh, and the salsa--although bland, in my opinion--was fresh and good enough (I added some El Yucateco to spice mine up!). It took quite a while to get our order in, and I originally wanted the ceviche, but was sadly told they didn't have it. So I ordered the Chicken Street Tacos ($14.90), which arrived with just a few small onion slices and no cilantro. :( Kim opted for the Chicken Quesadilla appetizer ($10.59). Once the food arrived, we quickly understood why the ratings aren't all five stars. The quesadilla was super plain, and the chicken in both dishes lacked flavor and wasn't very tender. I had a side of pinto beans that were good but also lacked seasoning. The best things on my plate were the tortillas and the fried jalapeño. We opted for two more margaritas, and Kim switched it up to a Margarona ($12.99)! Like I said, the drinks were good, and our waiter warmed up a bit, adding a touch of personality to the evening. We left feeling full, yet a bit disappointed that we didn't discover the kind of Mexican food gem that would make it worth the travel in the future. It was passable, but nothing I'd make a special trip for.

Environment was noisy, with only a few inches between tables. Bacon-wrapped scallops were grilled to perfection, but could have used some seasoning. My wife said her French onion soup was too salty. The hashbrowns were a joke -- unseasoned mashed potatoes in a mold that was browned on top. No hashbrown texture at all. My wife's sirloin steak was quite good. However, my $56 dry-aged 12-oz ribeye was a disappointment. I expected a melt-in-your-mouth experience. What I got was a somewhat dry piece of meat with very little marbling, but with a chunk of fat in the middle. Both steaks were poorly seasoned. Steaks should be prepared with a ample amount of salt and pepper. Adding it after the fact isn't the same.

Brick Street Café is easy to find. It's nestled inside of the Fareway store. Just to the left as you enter. Parking is normal for a grocery store. So no issues there... They also offer a drive-through. It's seat yourself. The seating is a combination of low top tables and chairs and booths. There are a few counter seats as well. The menu is surprisingly large. I know they won Iowa's best tenderloin in 2014...and I hadn't been here yet.... That made my decision on what to order really easy. I upgraded to a premium side of fried mushrooms. For a drink, I went with the unsweetened iced tea. Staci was my server and she did phenomenal. I had a short wait for my food. It came to the table, piping hot. Much to my chagrin there was lettuce and tomato on my tenderloin... But like any good GenXer I fixed it myself and didn't say a word. It's definitely a quality tenderloin. Nice and thick. But not too thick. A very consistent breading. They did a nice job tenderizing it. There were no tough spots at all and it just kind of breaks away when you take a bite. The mushrooms were obviously fresh out of the fryer. I've got the second-degree burns to prove it. Lol I'm okay with that because I sure don't want them cold. Everything was cooked perfectly. Service was wonderful. It's order and pay with your server at the table. I'd put the tenderloin on par with the one at the Dexfield Diner or B&B. https://www.facebook.com/share/18oQ84LDNk/?mibextid=wwXIfr https://thebrickstreetcafe.com/
