Unfortunately, the execution felt rushed, and that took away from what could have been a fantastic experience. -- CONS 1. Host/Greeter The tattooed greeter came across as unhappy and uninterested. Better tables remained empty while guests were directed to less desirable ones. A warm smile and an effort to provide the best available seating would make a much stronger first impression. 2. Food Delivery & Service Our food was delivered by someone who seemed extremely overworked. She rushed to the table, dropped off the food without saying a word, and disappeared before we had a chance to ask for ketchup for our fries. The experience felt like this: * Rush to the table. * Drop the food. * No greeting. * No "Does everything look okay?" * No offer of condiments. * Gone. For a $50 lunch that includes fries, not offering ketchup is surprising. This is America - fries and ketchup go together! 3. Way Too Much Salt This was, by far, the biggest issue. I can tell the chefs are trying to create bold flavors, but they are completely overwhelmed by excessive salt. Every bite was heavily salted. Please consider reducing the sodium by 50-70%. Your ingredients and creativity deserve to shine on their own. The food has tremendous potential, but the salt masks all of the wonderful flavors. 4. Water I'm not sure whether there was an issue with the glass or the water itself, but my water tasted like it had a dishwashing detergent residue. My partner's water tasted perfectly normal, while mine had an unpleasant soapy flavor. 5. Service I understand the restaurant is busy and the staff is under pressure. However, if runners deliver the food, servers should stop by within a minute or two to check on the table. No one checked whether we needed anything, and no one offered condiments. Hospitality is about taking care of guests, not just delivering plates. A quick follow-up visit after food arrives would dramatically improve the overall experience. -- Final Thoughts Would I come back? Probably not. I genuinely loved the concept, the creativity, and the overall atmosphere. Those are exceptional. Sadly, the excessive sodium alone is enough to keep me from returning. We were in Des Moines recently, and have always heard about their Zombie Burger restaurant, so we had to try it. I know they say the burgers and shakes and everything are gigantic, but I was not prepared for how big they were. I don't have a giant mouth, so I found the burgers a little hard to eat. I did like the Zombie Poutine, which were fries with cheese curds on top and a gravy poured over the whole thing. And the shakes are fantastic, but also pretty big, so maybe share with a friend if you want to order one and don't think you can finish it. Besides our appetizers, the food wasn't that great or maybe it was what we ordered. The chicken strips tasted like they were frozen from a bag and we didn't eat it. That was unfortunate since we ordered the basket of 6 and my aunt ordered a basket of 3. It was served with fries which were good compared to my daughter's fries that came with her kids meal. Ther is metered street parking available for those intending on eating here. The place has a large patio and a decent sized dining area. It is a zombie themed restaurant with zombie memorabilia and mannequins along with the food being named after zombies phrases. She was very welcoming, helpful, friendly and attentive. I ordered the "They're Coming To Get You, Barbara" burger, which was a burger with two grilled-cheese-sandwiches as the bun....mmmm. I also go t some of the Garlic, Bacon and Blue Cheese Fries. It took about 10 minutes for me to get my food. The burger was delicious. It was huge, packed with flavor and very tasty. I highly recommend it. The fries...not so much. They were overcooked, very hard and I had what looked like the little small pieces that you would find in the bottom of the fry bag.
