    Zombies for LBGTQIA+!
    Shannon L.

This is a happening and fun place. The zombie theme is a lot of fun. The photos with the zombies are in the hallway that separate them from people trying to dine in a way that I appreciate and reflects a thoughtful layout. I was delighted that they had vegetarian chili as a regular menu item and it was good. The burger was good too. Portions are a little on the small side, but they're also not that expensive. If I lived in this area, I would definitely come back.

This is a fun zombie themed burger joint. We went in for lunch and we were seated and greeted immediately. The staff were so friendly. It's decorated with zombies and just had a fun vibe. The food came really fast and was tasty. I ordered the zombie burger, which came with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and zombie sauce. It was cooked perfect and really good. The zombie sauce is basically like thousand island. The tots were great, just a tiny bit salty. But so crunchy and delish. They have a lot of fun shake options too, I was just too full to indulge!

I went to zombie burger the other week on a work trip and had a good time. The atmosphere was so cool with a zombie themed menu, and zombie design all around with a massive wall mural it was awesome! I got the planet terror with the ranch on the side. The burger was decent nothing mind blowing, but good for the price of $13, the fried Brussel sprouts were really crispy and super tasty with the Aioli! For a burger place pretty alright, I would expect a better burger when you have burger in your restaurant name.

We were in Des Moines recently, and have always heard about their Zombie Burger restaurant, so we had to try it. I know they say the burgers and shakes and everything are gigantic, but I was not prepared for how big they were. I don't have a giant mouth, so I found the burgers a little hard to eat. I did like the Zombie Poutine, which were fries with cheese curds on top and a gravy poured over the whole thing. And the shakes are fantastic, but also pretty big, so maybe share with a friend if you want to order one and don't think you can finish it. The decor is very cute, and service was great so no complaints there. Definitely give Zombie Burger a try if you have never been, just be aware that the burgers are gigantic, and maybe order one to share if you have a small appetite when you go!

Sat in the dining area for the first time. Had to show a friend visiting DSM one of our more 'eclectic' dining venues. I'd say this is right where Zombie burger falls. Probably not the best food you've had in your life, but it is unique. I was impressed with the fries being better than I'd expected. The staff is professional and very helpful! Nothing to complain about from their service.

Besides our appetizers, the food wasn't that great or maybe it was what we ordered. The chicken strips tasted like they were frozen from a bag and we didn't eat it. That was unfortunate since we ordered the basket of 6 and my aunt ordered a basket of 3. It was served with fries which were good compared to my daughter's fries that came with her kids meal. Her fries were well done and almost no potato in the fry. She did like her Mac and cheese. I had the Negan that was dry and maybe overcooked. I wouldn't order it again. I also had a root beer float and I liked it. Service was good and our food came out quickly. We got there at 2pm and the restaurant seemed very busy for that time but maybe it was because there was a swim meet not too far away and it was in between sessions. Ambiance is five stars. It's zombie themed and the menu was fun to read. The decor matched the theme and I would recommend this restaurant for the theme. Maybe order something other than chicken strips and the negan.

I came to zombie Burger in 2016 and I came back for the third time today and the food is out of this world. The service is nothing but awesome and funny and they work around you for the enjoyment of your food. At the ambience everything zombie thing is just AWESOME!!!!

Server Alex was very friendly and informative. Ordered the 28 Days Later - blue cheese, caramelized onion, lettuce, tomato, red onion, mayo $12.75 and added a grilled portobello cap for $1.50 and it was so good. Would recommend especially if you are a horror fan.

Zombie Burger and Drink Lab in Des Moines was a fun stop with a lot of personality. The place was super clean, and the service was fast and friendly, which made everything easy from the start. The food was very good and hit the spot, even if it's not something I would plan an entire trip around. The decor is humorous and totally committed to the zombie theme, which I appreciated because I love a place that fully leans into its concept. It's a solid, enjoyable meal and a fun experience if you find yourself in the area.

I've been to this location so many times. I just keep forgetting to leave a review! Last time was very nice. Sat inside tho there's patio. Short wait. Everyone in our group of 5 was happy with our drinks and food. I always come here for the Brussels sprouts and delightful wait staff will definitely return. Love the location. Glad this one stayed open.

Ther is metered street parking available for those intending on eating here. The place has a large patio and a decent sized dining area. It is a zombie themed restaurant with zombie memorabilia and mannequins along with the food being named after zombies phrases. It is nothing too scary though and no one is grabbing you like a haunted house, so the place is ok for the kiddos. The menu is made out to be like a news paper that is reporting on the zombie apocalypse. In addition to their unique burgers, they offer shakes, nachos, salads, chicken strips, and an assortment of exotic fries. This restaurant is colocated with a ramen joint, so they also have ramen available to eat as well. It was a nice day so I sat out on the patio. My server was awesome. She was very welcoming, helpful, friendly and attentive. I ordered the "They're Coming To Get You, Barbara" burger, which was a burger with two grilled-cheese-sandwiches as the bun....mmmm. I also go t some of the Garlic, Bacon and Blue Cheese Fries. It took about 10 minutes for me to get my food. The burger was delicious. It was huge, packed with flavor and very tasty. I highly recommend it. The fries...not so much. They were overcooked, very hard and I had what looked like the little small pieces that you would find in the bottom of the fry bag. I had to drench them in catsup to eat them. I would definitely come here again, if just for the burgers and service alone. I would be very cautious of the fries. This is a nice fun, themed restaurant that is located in downtown Des Moines and you should definitely check it out.

We came here the week of the state fair and got the treat of the specialty menu! We ordered the butter cow burger and la horde. Goat cheese + bacon + burger is just a phenomenal combination, and isn't heavy. The butter cow burger was such a treat! I mean I probably gained 5lbs with all that butter but worth it lol very unique and never would have thought of the flavor combination. For dessert we shared the peanut butter banana milkshake and it tasted like banana fosters with a hint of peanut butter... yum!!! And you can't forget the way restaurant is decorated. This Halloween gal loved looking at everything and taking it in.

Crunch berry shake and zombie unicorn shake.

We have something similar to this back home, this place puts our place to shame. My sister and I split two burgers, they're coming to get you Barbara and Juan of the dead, we legit could not decide which we loved better. Then to top it off my son had the Nutella shake, and her and I had the fruity pebbles shake and captain crunch shakes. WE REGRET NOT ONE THING. don't walk, rush there.

A little outside of my normal home base of the Des Moines metro, but Marshalltown is an easy…read moredrive... The short. The food is really good...! And it was worth the trip. See the pictures. Now to the long part. If you want to skip that feel free and just go on what is above this line. I grew up a wrestling fan back in the 70s and 80s... When the NWA used to do house shows and setup in high school gymnasiums. I remember the Attitude Era well (1997-2002) and watched it a lot at the time. I took my son to RAW and Smackdown shows at the Well when he was younger... Today I'm not an avid fan, but if I told you I didn't follow things at all...I'd be lying. I mean AJ Lee's epic return alongside her husband CM Punk...! C'mon! The Flying Elbow has been on my list a long time... As "a fan" I wanted to check it out soooo bad. And even though they were awarded Iowa's best burger in 2022... I wondered it was just another gimmick to draw people in to mid food... I don't put a lot of stock in contests. As you walk in the front door there is a small bar directly to your Left. Classic wrestling was playing on one of the TVs above the bar. Football on the other. You'll see a combination of low top tables and chairs and a few booths in front of you and to your Right. There's an Order Here sign at the end of the long counter. The fountain drink station is at the end of the room (Coke products). From the fountain drink station the entrance to the patio is to the Right. Restrooms to the Left. It's order and pay at the counter. Cash or card. It's seat yourself and they bring your food to you when it's done being prepared. Bus your own table when you're done. Staff was quick to clean up as people left to prepare for their next guest. I ordered the following: 24 oz fountain drink (free refills) 3:16 chili dog (all beef) with cheddar cheese and white onion -- Choose up to three toppings: Cheddar, pepper jack, and nacho cheese. Sour cream, nacho Doritos, and chili cheese Fritos. White, red, or green onions... Fried cheesecurds An order of six smoked bone-in chicken wings with buffalo sauce -- Sauce choices. Plain BBQ, buffalo, Korean BBQ, raspberry chipotle BBQ, People's BBQ. and Asian peanut A Bang! Bang! burger as advertised (no modifications) off the Attitude menu -- Pepper Jack, caramelized onion, cactus steak sauce, 4 Horsey sauce, fried jalapeño chips The burgers are smash style and have great flavor. I got the single burger and was wishing I'd gotten the double. Same with the 3:16 chili dog... They offer an Andre sized dog (+$2). But I'd ordered a lot of food...! The buns here! So good. The hamburger bun was a classic sesame seed bun that met the size of the burger. The meat peeked out the edges. The bun for the dog was a potato style...not a cheap flimsy bun. The bun seemed a little big for the regular dog, but I bet it would be perfect for something Andre sized. It held the chili well without falling apart. The smoked wings have a light smoke to them...not too heavy. They are big and meaty. The ranch that came with the cheesecurds was fire. I ordered some blue cheese with the wings. In hindsight I would say that one of the BBQ sauces would probably pair better with the smoked wings v. the buffalo. That's on me. I hit them right in a Saturday lunch rush and fortunately was able to grab a seat as someone else was getting up to leave. Staff was friendly and patient. If you're not patient...I'd probably not hit them right at peak lunch hour on a Saturday. Seating in the main dining area and on the patio was full. Service was great! The food was great! Is the wrestling thing kind of a gimmick? Yes. Yes it probably is. But it's a fun gimmick that hits home for a lot of us! I liked seeing the references that remind me of entertainment I grew up with and enjoyed. It's no different from a 50s diner theme, railroad, or zombies. And they back it up with good food! For me it's kind of like going to Prairie City for Goldie's or going up to Whatcha Smokin' in Luther... I spend a lot of money locally right here in the Des Moines metro, but sometimes it's a good thing to just hit the road and explore our neighbors a little. The Flying Elbow is the worth the drive to check out! And if you're a wrestling fan... It's a destination...enjoy the experience! https://www.facebook.com/theflyingelbow https://flyingelbowfood.com/

BUT it is the best burger I've ever had out of a gas station in Iowa...! Actually... I'm not exactly sure which way this place actually goes... Is this a gas station that sells food... Or a restaurant that sells gas? Potato...potatoe! Lol And it IS a very good burger overall too...! But not only do they serve burgers... They have other menu selections... Mostly all deep fried and grill options... And ice cream! I've seen signs for Iowa's Best Burger Cafe for years while running back and forth on I-80 from the Des Moines metro... Kellogg is about halfway between Newton and Grinnell. We've never stopped here until this past weekend when we were on our way home from the What Cheer IA flea market... Iowa's Best Burger Cafe is just off the highway... The first thing I noticed as the GPS said our route was about to end... It looked like it ended at an Amoco gas station... Huh? And then I noticed the signage for the Iowa's Best Burger Cafe on the building... Oh... So we're here...? Not exactly what I expected..., but I eat at food trucks too so it wasn't going to stop me. I did glance at my girlfriend to see if I could tell whether she was feeling it or not... I think she was just really hungry at that point and didn't really care. Lol There's ample parking. As you enter the building it kind of looks like a standard gas station convenience store...until you turn and look to your Right. Red plastic booth seating. There are two counters and a case that sit adjacent to one another. The counter you order at also displays the ice cream. There's a case displaying some ready to eat options. The register is on a shorter counter closest to the entrance. It's an open kitchen. There is also another small room of seating further to the left as you face the counters. The tables are kind of faux marble. Napkins, salt, pepper, ketchup, and mustard are available in each booth. We were greeted as we walked and I let them know it was our first time there and we didn't know the drill. They let us know you order standing there at the counter. Take a seat. They bring the food out to you when it's ready. You pay at the register when you are done. Cash or card...and there is an ATM on site. They bus your table. There are a couple of menu placards on the counter where you place your order... The 16 flavors of ice cream selection are plainly labeled. The two ladies behind the counter were very helpful and were both personable! We ordered: 2x half pound burger combos (one with cheese, bacon, onions and pickles and one with cheese, onions, pickles, mayo, and lettuce) 1x upgraded side to garlic mushrooms 1x upgraded side to onion rings 2x fountain drinks (Coke products...comes with combo) 1x mozarella sticks 1x two scoop bowl of ice cream 1x single cone of ice cream The wait for food wasn't long. Everything was served hot and fresh! They'd asked us if we wanted ranch... My girlfriend always wants ranch! Not only did they bring us ranch... They brought us a HUGE squeeze bottle of ranch! This is how every restaurant should bring you ranch! While we dined in (as did a couple of other customers) most of the business appeared to be take out. One pro tip... The standard half pound burger comes with two patties. I heard a customer ask a guy, at the booth next to her, how many patties he had on his burger... Huh? He had four patties on his burger... A full pounder! So there has to be a way to add an additonal patty (or patties) too... If you want a bigger burger... Ask...! The bathrooms...not horrible. The food was all great. Good service. No complaints. I wouldn't hesitate to stop in here again! And I know what to expect next time...!

4.5* (out of 5) Food: 5* Atmosphere: 3* Value: 5*…read more Service: 5* 02/03/2024 Our neighbors surprised us with a trip to the Rusty Duck on our last trip out for dinner. It was admittedly a bit of a drive to get there, but all things considered, not much longer in the car than a trip downtown and there wasn't much traffic! I can't say enough about the quality of the food here - if I could give it more than 5* for the delicious steaks, I would. The service and value were also well above average, justifying the 5* ratings in each area. The only thing that was average was the atmosphere / venue, as the tables were somewhat packed into the room, not leaving much room to get around and making it a bit challenging to navigate your way through to the rest rooms or the bar. With that said, that is exactly where I want a restaurant to excel - food 1st, then service and value...with atmosphere last on my priority list. Our neighbors opted for the Blackened Top Sirloin (see pictures - one showing the beautiful medium rare cook) and Open Face Ribeye (see picture). As the pictures imply, both of them were delicious - and at 16oz & 12oz respectively, there was plenty to bring home for breakfast the next day. My wife ordered the Ribeye Steak Deburgo with cream sauce (see picture) and I went with the Blackened Blue Ribeye (see pictures). As with our neighbors cuts - both of them were delicious and grilled to perfection...and at 16oz each, we had plenty to bring home with us also. The creamy parmesan dip was recommended to us for dipping the fries and I concur - you definitely want to order it with the fries. We found both the Homie (large, wedge cut) and French Fries to be very good, so it depends on your preference. It's hard to beat the quality and quantity of the steaks - at a reasonable price. You'll find it worth your while to take the short drive West from Des Moines on I-80 and give this place a try. Make sure to call ahead for reservations though, especially on the weekends. They have an early and a late seating...and the place fills up for both! If you found this review helpful, please show your appreciation with a Like or a Follow.
