Blackened Top Sirloin

4.5* (out of 5) Food: 5* Atmosphere: 3* Value: 5* Service: 5* 02/03/2024 Our neighbors surprised us with a trip to the Rusty Duck on our last trip out for dinner. It was admittedly a bit of a drive to get there, but all things considered, not much longer in the car than a trip downtown and there wasn't much traffic! I can't say enough about the quality of the food here - if I could give it more than 5* for the delicious steaks, I would. The service and value were also well above average, justifying the 5* ratings in each area. The only thing that was average was the atmosphere / venue, as the tables were somewhat packed into the room, not leaving much room to get around and making it a bit challenging to navigate your way through to the rest rooms or the bar. With that said, that is exactly where I want a restaurant to excel - food 1st, then service and value...with atmosphere last on my priority list. Our neighbors opted for the Blackened Top Sirloin (see pictures - one showing the beautiful medium rare cook) and Open Face Ribeye (see picture). As the pictures imply, both of them were delicious - and at 16oz & 12oz respectively, there was plenty to bring home for breakfast the next day. My wife ordered the Ribeye Steak Deburgo with cream sauce (see picture) and I went with the Blackened Blue Ribeye (see pictures). As with our neighbors cuts - both of them were delicious and grilled to perfection...and at 16oz each, we had plenty to bring home with us also. The creamy parmesan dip was recommended to us for dipping the fries and I concur - you definitely want to order it with the fries. We found both the Homie (large, wedge cut) and French Fries to be very good, so it depends on your preference. It's hard to beat the quality and quantity of the steaks - at a reasonable price. You'll find it worth your while to take the short drive West from Des Moines on I-80 and give this place a try. Make sure to call ahead for reservations though, especially on the weekends. They have an early and a late seating...and the place fills up for both! If you found this review helpful, please show your appreciation with a Like or a Follow. Top Sirloin with Creamy Deburgo

Rusty Duck Dexter, IA Just off I80 and not far from Des Moines. I took my Beautiful wife to The Rusty Duck to celebrate Valentine's Day early. Since she is a Valentine Baby I wanted to keep Valentine's just about her Birthday. I made a reservation and really didn't need one this Saturday evening. We got sat by the waitress cleaning station and they wouldn't let us move. That's my only complaint. We kept getting interrupted as the waitstaff got items. They keep the tray tables there as well as the cleaning supplies. Splish splashing and banging items. That made it difficult to relax for me. We started with the onion rings. I got the Full and we only ate a quarter. It's a huge portion. The onion rings were delicious with light breading. A great starter. I would recommend the half for two people. We both choose the Top Sirloin, baked potato, and salad. The salad was great. I choose the house dressing. Everything was fresh and tasty. I loved the thin croutons and added some onion rings. Perfect. The salad comes with the dressing already mixed in and tossed. I got my Top Sirloin with the creamy Deburgo. So decadent and delicious. The creamy garlic sauce was perfection. My steak had very little fat and was tender. Excellent flavor that just melts in your mouth. I was in steak heaven. The baked potato was perfect with butter and sour cream. Cooked perfectly and easy to mash. It was a perfect compliment to the steak. The portions are huge so skip eating that day. You will probably have enough for the next day as well. The food is awesome and delightful. My waitress was phenomenal and did an excellent job as well as other waitstaff who brought food. The hostess is not much fun and I don't recommend asking to change tables. I will definitely return to The Rusty Duck -- at The Rusty Duck.

Blackenedblue ribeye...doesn't get any better.

Drove 1 hour for an anniversary dinner, worth every mile. Fabulous steak - unique options...great appetizer - again just a bit unique...and pasta was over the top. I highly recommend making the drive; we will be back!

A few years ago, we came get for dinner in the middle of the week. We didn't know that on Friday night, you should have reservations. We had the BBQ pork and chicken Romano. You should order the chicken Romano sandwich. Amazing. Onions rings were fantastic! Homie fries crunchy and soft. Bbq pork had too much sauce but otherwise great. Service was fine.

Dexfield Diner & Pub is still serving up the same great quality food the customers and staff can now enjoy the comfort of AC again too...! Tonight I took my son and his girlfriend on the short drive down Hickman through Waukee and Adel to Redfield. It's seat yourself. Seating is stools at the bar and a combination of low top and high top tables and chairs. Menus and napkins along with basic condiments are at the table. We were greeted right away when we walked in. Staff was friendly and personable. I've come to expect this from any of Steve Robert's teams. I don't think you'd last long with him if you weren't. Ordering and payment are done at the table. Cards and cash accepted. They have happy hour specials from 400 pm to 600 pm Tuesday to Friday. Half off appetizers and drink specials. We ordered: 1x cheeseburger basket with fries 1x 10 pc wings basket with fries 1x breaded tenderloin 1x appetizer of mammoth mozzarella sticks (and they are) 1x appetizer of cheese balls 1x appetizer of fried pickles 1x appetizer of fried mushrooms 3x fountain drinks (Coke products) Tiffany was making magic happen in the kitchen while two young ladies were taking care of business up front. Steve popped in to check on things and help prepare for Redfield's Settler Days. The breaded tenderloin is truly among the best in the state! Even better now that it's back to being served out of a basket and not out of not in a styrofoam to go box...! Owen and Vanessa enjoyed their burger and wings. All the appetizers are hand breaded.... Those mammoth mozzarella sticks...! Just massive! I hope the pic in my hand for scale does them justice! Everything was hot and fresh! Perfect right down to the house made ranch and marinara! Definitely worth the short trip West of the metro! https://www.facebook.com/DexfieldBlueDevils/

I fully expected the place to be packed as it appears to be pretty much the only show in town as far as a sit down restaurant. There was a please wait to be seated sign there as we walked in. We were greeted right away and seated in minutes. It's old school wood tables and chairs and I think there was a counter available. Ordering is done at the tables as well as settline your bill up with your server. Surprisingly the speed of service continued throughout the visit. After drinks we ordered the rodeo burger and fries, a tenderloin with chili cheese fries, and the garlic cheeseballs. The cheeseballs came with marinara and ranch. Fresh, hot, and fantastic! I've eaten a lot of tenderloins. Many that have been highlighted as Iowa Tenderloin Trail winners or participants... This is one of the better tenderloins I've had in the state! Obviously hand made, breaded, and fried. Not too thick and not too thin. Drained properly. Served with the essential condiments including the holy trinity (onions, dill pickles, and mustard). The gf liked her burger. It could have used more of the featured ranch and bbq sauce. The fries... Neither of us cared for them. Obviously hand made, but almost too thin and too greasy. We'd both opt for a different side next time. To each our own though. Almost every small town along this stretch of I-80 has a pub & grill. The menus vary a little, but are very similar in a lot of aspects. The quality of service and the cooks make the biggest differences. The Chuckwagon hit five stars in some aspects of both. Work on those fries and the flavor of the chili (horribly bland) and this review would have been five stars. I'm going to emphasize this again. Truly one of the best tenderloins I've had in the state! Keep doing what you are doing!

Anyhow, we arrived and elected to sit at the bar versus a booth. Took a couple minutes to get noticed and we were asked to sit at the other end of the bar due to some clutter... Prices are very reasonable at this establishment. A flight was $7.50...if you were in WDM or Waukee, you would probably be looking at double that. They also brew their own beer and cider here; I'm not sure why that's not advertised heavier. Its called the "Gamble Block Brewery". I had Fear the Beard, the Baja Lager, the Maple Pumpkin Ale, and a cinnamon apple cider. The Maple pumpkin ale was delicious--the maple definitely hit on the back end. I was not a fan of the cider--they used a rather tart apple. The Fear the Beard (comparable to Blue Moon) and the Baja lager were OK. For food, I had the chicken tender basket with a 1/2 order of Texas Fries. I actually thought the ranch seasoning detracted from this dish--the queso was quite good and the bacon was plentiful. The downside to getting "sampler" versions of items was none of the accompaniments were included. My friend who got a full order of the Texas Fries was given sour cream with his food--mine did not. Also, on the beer sampler fruit wedges are served with the full size versions but not on the flight. The chicken tenders were very good and had the right breading/chicken ratio. The buffalo sauce packed a punch but was not obnoxiously spicy. The ranch that came with it was very good and was clearly made in-house. More of a 3.5 star review.

Wobbly Boots closed 3+ years ago. I remember shortly before Wobbly Boots closed they had mentioned possibly opening a sister location in Perry, but I kind of forgot about it. I thought about it again in the last year or so when I started making my own version of a crab rangoon pizza at home. It's been a few months since, but Tin Pig had come back on my radar as that venture. I found Tin Pig online and sure enough the menu looked VERY similar with some of my old favorites. Today we made the drive over on 141 to Perry. We walked in and the feel was very much Wobbly Boots. A counter where staff greeted us up front, low and high tables and chairs, a few booths, and a bar to the Left. Same general motif. Rustic with a lot of wood, advertising pieces.... And the longhorns! TVs over the bar and on pillars down the middle of the dining room. I really didn't need a menu. It was that similar to the one I'd used for years...with a couple omissions but with a couple new additions too. We ordered the catfish BLT ($13), the crab rangoon flatbread ($14), a half order of the Texas fries ($6), a soda ($2.50?), and a water. Service was stellar! From being greeted as we walked in, throughout our visit, to when our payment was taken. Refills were prompt and we were checked on, but not bothered! The one little thing... While it was enough to fill us... The portion sizes are smaller. At least for the entrees we ordered. Granted we are 3+ years down the road and we all know things have changed. Businesses have fought to survive and the cost of everything has gone up. Don't let the mention of smaller portions detract you from making the short drive to Perry. It's worth the trip! But if you remember the truly massive portions served at Wobbly Boots it's something you will want to be aware of. The food tasted great! The catfish was cooked perfectly. The mac n cheese is still second to none! The toppings on the crab rangoon flatbread seemed a little thinner, but it was wonderful too. It was good to revisit this familiar food as my girlfriend and I have some really great memories of Wobbly Boots! https://tinpigtavern.com/

But the onion rings drove this one home - definitely made in-house and so good. And they have the good ranch. This is important!
