very good experience. we were heading to Omaha and decided to eat small town food. first off it was hard to choose one menu option. I wanted it all. the food around us looked do good. I saw the tenderloin after I ordered, I started to have regrets. plus I could smell it, I was drooling. I ordered the steakhouse sub and it was very good. the Chipotle ranch was perfect on it. I had the regular fries and they were yummy. hubby had Philly cheese teak and said it was great. MIL had the cheeseburger special and it looked good. she had steak fries and hubby preferred those. I liked the skinny ones. service was great! they all seemed to work well together. bathrooms were nice, men's urinals are made from kegs. I had to swipe my husband's picture. if you find yourself in that area give it a try you won't be disappointed.

We waffled between Adair and Earlham, but Chuckwagon Restaurant in Adair has been on our list for awhile, so we made the 45min drive west on I80 to check it out. It did NOT DISAPPOINT! Country Fried Steak: hands down the best country fried steak I've had in recent history...maybe ever. First of all, look at the size of this beast! That's a normal sized fork on my plate. And it wasn't over fried like so many around, nor covered in batter so crunchy I could break a tooth. It was super flavorful, thicker yet tender. I ate less than 1/4 of the steak before boxing the rest. Cheesy hash brown casserole vs. cheese on top of hashbrowns...well ok; twisted my arm ‍ OMG it was so good! Seriously the perfect "countryside" breakfast, I can't wait to take my dad next time, he loves a solid CFS. 3 Meat Skillet: wow! The only thing that could've made this one better would've been if it came over the cheesy hashbrown casserole and had runny eggs instead of hard (but the better half doesn't like runny eggs...weirdo!). This was definitely a solid skillet breakfast. Service was stellar, serving the whole place herself and she still rocked it. Receipt for the people who ask how much meal items are. -- at Chuckwagon Restaurant.

The only thing I crave to eat when in Iowa is a pork tenderloin sandwich. Something about how this state makes their Pork Tenderloin sandwich always gets me in my feels (belly). Something about how the tenderloin is too big for them buns.... How the tenderloin has a crunchy outside and a soft, succulent inside. And the Chuckwagon's tenderloin sandwich delivered the goods. It was love at first bite. Get a mouth full of this tenderoni is like having a mouth full of the Iowa seeds of love. You will enjoy this sandwich as much as your greatest passion. Just don't expect the same for the fries. Fries are like your girlfriend's step sister that likes to watch you two..... Bland with no life. Oh BTW, the service was awesome here too. Before you leave, make sure to check out the men's restroom. They have a keg for a urinal.

Stopped here for dinner on our road trip. Some of the best fries I've ever had! Tenderloin sandwich was perfectly done and my husband enjoyed his Mac and cheese burger. Highly recommend! Service was great!

This place was very good! Awesome staff, the food was very good everyone enjoyed their meals. The service was also fast, it was a nice break from our 5 hour drive so far! It's a nice clean space off i80, there was a couple of gas stations on the block as well

Brisket sandwich, kickin bourbon burger, margaritas, milkshake, coleslaw, house fries.

This place is worth the stop. If you're passing through Adair you're most likely on a trip (business or pleasure) and looking for a memorable experience. Chuck wagon gives you that. The workers are down-to-earth, friendly and remind you of home. The food is delicious. Portions are excellent. The place is comfortable and inviting. It's not immaculate, but that's part of the charm. Even the restroom (mens is all we checked out) will bring a smile to your face! This place deserves 5 stars because everything about it is unforgettable. You won't regret stopping here. If we ever pass through this area again we will be back. Thanks again, Chuckwagon!

If you find yourself traveling through Iowa on I-80 stop in much better food than you will find at any truck stop. Service and atmosphere are awesome.

Used to work in the area and are here often. I love this place. Traveling today.... So it was a must stop. Kinda wish it were lunch time though. Today I'm getting breakfast. Great biscuits and gravy and an absolute killer Reuben and fries here.

Food and service were great. The building was kinda old, gross, and dirty. We were there on a hot day and the A/C was broken.

Breakfast available, so one in our party went with that, and that was the right choice for the day we were there. My wife and I each got a salad - I got the California Chicken, and she got the Chicken Harvest Apple Salad. The menu says they are each spring mix lettuce, but there wasn't much spring in either of ours - pretty much iceberg with a touch of darker greens. The chicken was thin and tasted fine, but didn't have a lot of seasoning. The bread was good, and if the lettuce had been closer to what we thought we were getting it would have made a significant difference. We just chose poorly. The breakfast platter looked amazing, and we saw a couple of wraps and sandwiches pass by that looked really good. Service was very pleasant and efficient, and our food came out in good time. They cleared our table as well and even though it pretty much counter service, there was more service provided than you might expect. We will try again and just stick to the sandwiches or breakfast. The lettuce mix may have been a substitute or may be what locals prefer; just wasn't what we thought we would be getting.

The staff member assured me it was no problem at all, so I bought breakfast and worked for the day. The next day, I followed the same routine (since I actually really enjoyed the other places coffee and I was already told it was no problem if I bring in outside drinks). However this time, a different staff member informed me that outside beverages were not allowed, but said I could stay if I poured my coffee into one of their cups. I completely understood and complied without any issue. 30 minutes later, the owner approached my table in an aggressive manner and began berating me for not following their rules. Despite explaining that I had received information from two employees allowing me to stay, the manager continued to reprimand me, stating it was common sense not to bring outside drinks. While I always respect the rules of any establishment, the owners disrespectful tone and demeaning language were shockingly disgraceful. I would not recommend dining here if you expect courteous and professional ownership or management.

The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, perfect for hanging out with loved ones. The food was delicious. Plus, the service was super friendly and made us feel right at home. I just needed to put in an order to go for my mom and I before she put me to work at her office, helping her organize. She sent me on a mission for snapple diet peach tea (from the grocery store) and breakfast from here. She told me she wanted the omelette with gravy on it. So with my mission started I grabbed the tea from hyvee then headed to the downtowner. So the downtowner is on chesnut, which is like Atlantics main street area. Its cute, chic, and has the old buildings all along the street. It was easy to find parking, most everything on chestnut is closed at 8am. So it was easy to tell where the downtowner was if you didnt know where to find it. The downtowner is on the main floor of an apartment building. This apartment building looks like a 1920s hotel. The building has been taken care of and still looks like it has all of the accents. Right in the doorway of the downtowner is their daily special, and their coffee bean rug. A waitress came right up to me and asked what I would like. I told her I needed a minute though. I had never been there before but my mom had. It took me all of 4 minutes to decide and the waitress was right there to take my order. She said it would be about 15 minutes because the hashbrowns take longer. My mom wanted the downtowner omelette and I ordered the vegetatarian omelette. Both come with a side of hashbrowns and toast. We both got cheese on our hashbrowns. I told her I would wait outside the door since it was busy and there was a bench that looks like it was a church pew at one time. It took exactly 15 minutes to cook and put everything together and the waitress brought it right out to me. I paid and the total was around $18 so worth it and very comparable to Palmers breakfast on Ingersoll. The waitress even added jelly packets to the order which I was grateful for since I forgot to grab them from a table on my way out. My only dislike is that they buttered both sets of toast after they had cooled down so the butter did not really melt on it. The downtowner is also one of the few places in town that caters. If you want good food. Order from here for catering. The service staff is great, friendly, and on time. My mom has had the downtowner and hyvee both cater, and the downtowner won hands down, and I dont just mean for taste or quality of food

When we arrived Donna met us at the car and showed us to our suite. We had the "Room with a View." From the moment we climbed the stairs we were enraptured by the charming attention to detail that made each moment heavenly. From the selection and placement of the books, the choice in classic looking Christmas tree, the bedding, even the window treatments...it all lent to a wonderful sense of tranquility that harkens to a more simple time yet with all of the modern conveniences. There was a pot of piping hot tea waiting for us. What would you expect from a place that also houses a fabulous tearoom? We had arranged for a harvest dinner as well and were told it would be served in our suite at the time of our choosing that evening. Looking out the windows we were taken by the rolling hills of Longview Farms, the field of lavender, the cows in the distance and the "secret garden" that itself appeared to have complete equanimity. We enjoyed our tea near the fireplace and lazily thumbed through cookbooks and tea books on a perfectly placed sofa in quiet repose. Donna and Spenser appeared at the appointed time with our wonderful harvest dinner. It was a spectacle for the senses, bringing exultation to the eyes, nose and mouth. The repast was a mélange of colors, textures and flavors. We also had more amazing tea, of course. After dinner we enjoyed more time by the fire and there was no desire to use the available TV or cell phones. We just wanted to melt into the atmosphere. When our eyes could hold up no more, we moved to the bed, which we hadn't more than seen to that point. The choice of linen and pillows was far better than any hotel. The next morning we were greeted by another sensory feast for breakfast. On checking out we toured the lovely tea room, where they even have charter buses bringing in people on occasion. We'll definitely be back for more tea in the formal setting. Donna and her family were a wonder, everything was so serene and we haven't felt so rested and relaxed.
