    Seafood Combination (SPECIAL)
    Kirk M.

If you are looking for some of the best Asian food in Ankeny look no further than the Lucky Bamboo. The hardest decision you will make is to eat in, take out or have it delivered. If you are eating in or doing carry out watch out for the constant flow of traffic in and out of the restaurant and the cramped parking lot. The spaces are too small and everyone seems to park like.... Regardless of the sketchy parking situation we love this place and the food is consistently delicious and as fresh as it can be. Sadly I always seem to forget pictures because my mouth is watering and I forget myself! The restaurant itself is inviting if not a little small. It is always clean and always bustling with the walk in traffic. The staff are quick to acknowledge you and even faster to get your order ready to go! The order g is done at the counter and you server yourself food and drinks. I love the Kung Pao stir fry and all of the variations are fantastic. Kim likes the Ginger Chicken or the Sesamee Chicken Special. The Crab Rangoon are mouthwatering and crispy while the spring rolls are flaky and delightful. Even take home the appetizers are fresh! My last meal was the Empress Shrimp Special, good and bad, the flavors were spot on and the shrimp was snappy and fresh, but the breading was completely soggy, I would not render that to go again. Pro tip: if you order a dish with spice levels be careful as I really enjoy a spicy dish, but this is no joke here. 5 star heat is a 10+. Scorching and hot , in fact Just while writing this review I began sweating at the memory! Spice Level 3 maybe 4 are right if you like to sweat but still want to taste tour food. I have done their spice levels 5 and 6 and paid the price! I highly recommend this business for a great and consistent lay satisfying experience!

    Medium combination pho

Wanted to give the pho here a shot since I haven't really heard about the pho here within the Asian community and I was very pleased that I did! I got a medium size combination pho which includes slices of beef, meatballs, brisket, and tendon. The broth was quite savory yet light (for those who do not like oily pho). I will say I like my pho on the oily side but this pho did not disappoint. All was well balanced. The service was great! They were quick and hospitable. Dining room was nice and clean.

We stopped there for lunch and it was a pretty busy day. The lunch special is very reasonably priced. Place your order and then go sit down after you get your drink. Hot sour soup was really good. You don't have a choice for soup of the day. The egg roll was tasty, but the crab Rangoon was a little soggy. Hubby and I both had Mongolian beef and it was really good. I brought home part of mine for later. It's a nice place.

It was a positive first visit that will bring us back to Lucky Bamboo. The combination of good pricing, great customer service, and tasty Pacific Rim food options made it a winning combination. Situated in a Delaware Avenue strip mall, this restaurant has plenty of parking, lots of interior table seating, offers takeout, and has a casual overall tone. We enjoyed daily specials, Chicken Lo Mein and Cashew Chicken, from their expansive menu. We both chose a medium spicy level. It was delicious, prepared on the spot, and quickly delivered to the table. I appreciated the kind service that accompanied the visit throughout.

Sesame chicken and NOT fried rice.

Food was ok but hard to enjoy without the requested utensils. They also didn't give me fried rice like I'd asked for.

Love me some Lucky Bamboo in Ankeny. Pictured is the Empress Shrimp and the Mongolian Chicken (spice level 3). The service is always friendly and everything I've tried there has been delicious. Hubby got the Teriyaki Bowl but dove in before I could take a picture. He said that it was as good as the JC Mall teriyaki. If you get the "special" meals, then it comes with your choice of entree plus egg roll, crab rangoon and soup of the day. They also serve Pho!!

We added the soy sauce, this was supposed to be the fried rice

Man this was my favorite go to spot for my Asian food fix in Ankeny. Let me start with the positive, crab ragoons were on point and delicious. We ordered cashew chicken, which we order every time, what happened? No flavor, very bland. Ordered fried rice which was $12.99 by the way. It was literally just brown rice, we saw nothing else added to it? What happened, new cook?? Chicken Lo mein, not bad, first time we ordered it, but again kinda bland. I will give than another try, only because this is the first time we had such a bad experience. By the way, we ordered 2 hours ahead, so it wasn't that we ordered last minute. We ordered delivery and it was delivered

Hole in the wall in the best possible way! Tried this spot for dinner last week, I was impressed with the large portion of the special size. You order at the counter and they bring your food to the table. Drinks are self serve as well. We ran into an issue where part of our food was delayed and they brought out the wrong entree at first. Would have been nice to have a both dishes brought out at the same time- mine was delayed another 15 min from when the other was brought out.

Cashew Chicken "special," with Crab Rangoon, Egg Roll, and Fried Rice.

Char Kueh Teow This dish stood out immediately which has a smoky wok hei flavor (the "breath of the wok") coated the flat rice noodles, giving them that deep caramelized edge that's hard to find outside of Malaysia. The prawns were plump and juicy, and the mix of soy, garlic, and chili gave just the right balance of savory and spicy. Fresh cucumbers and pickled vegetables on the side added a refreshing crunch, making each bite balanced and addictive. Laksa Rich, creamy, and fragrant, the laksa broth was a highlight. The curry coconut base carried layers of spice without being overwhelming, and every sip warmed you from the inside out. The noodles were cooked just right, with toppings that tied it together from seafood to herbs. It's the kind of bowl that makes you pause between spoonfuls just to savor the aroma. Satay The chicken satay had a lovely turmeric and lemongrass marinade, grilled to a slight char that locked in the smoky flavor. Tender on the inside with crispy edges, it paired perfectly with the bold, nutty, and slightly spicy peanut dipping sauce. The cucumber slices on the side helped cut through the richness, just like you'd get back at a hawker stall in Malaysia. Overall Hawker Kitchen is a gem for anyone looking for authentic Malaysian comfort food in Des Moines. Portions are generous, flavors are bold and true to their roots, and the variety on the menu makes it worth repeat visits. If you're new to Malaysian cuisine, start with the satay and char kueh teow; if you're a fan already, the laksa will feel like home.

We try one new restaurant each month just to keep things fresh, so this time I suggested Fawn's. I'm really glad we did. I had heard so many great things about the food so I was excited to try it. When I saw the menu, though, I was a little nervous because they serve Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Laotian food. In my experience, restaurants that try to serve all kinds of Asian food rarely do one or all of them well. I ordered Pad Thai and my husband got Evil Jungle Prince. I was very pleased. It was the best Pad Thai I've ever eaten. It was SO good! My husband loved his dish, too. It had chicken and vegetables with a spicy sauce made with red curry and coconut milk. The prices were very reasonable and the portions were huge. We each got two meals out of our dinners. I love it when that happens. The place isn't fancy.
