Crab rangoons were good, just wish they had more imitation crab inside. The sweet and sour was okay. The sesame chicken was a 5/5. Covered in sauce and the white rice was cooked perfectly. Shanghai has been a favorite of mine for years. They went through an ownership change here a while…read moreback... It's had an impact but it's still at the top of my list when I'm craving Chinese food. This weekend was my 54th birthday. My daughter is at camp, but I wanted to do something with my son. The place I wanted to try was China Chef however I didn't realize they had closed their dining room area. After driving from Clive to the South side we changed plans in the China Cheft parking lot and headed to Waukee. We were greeted and seated right away as we walked on and were seated at a booth. The place is starting to show it's age. The carpet...it needs replaced. But overall it's clean and if nothing else it's familiar. We were presented with menus and glasses of water. Staff checked on us regularly throughou the meal Since it was between 1100 AM and 200 PM we were eligible for the lunch special options. It's a smaller menu, but comes with an egg roll, crab rangoon, your choice of soup (egg drop or hot and sour), and the entree. My son ordered the orange chicken with egg drop soup with a soda. I ordered the Yu Shiang shrimp with hot and sour soup and stuck with only water. I LOVE Shanghai's crab rangoons. They're definitely more on the sweet side. I ordered another order of those. Love them! The house hot mustard. Be careful! It's easy to overdo and it will clear your sinuses like tear gas. But it's SO good...! The orange chicken was excellent as usual. The Yu Shiang shrimp... It's the first time I've ordered it there. The deep red of the sauce was a little off putting. I'm used to a spicy brown sauce. The sauce on the Yu Shiang shrimp... This is just a visual thing though. The sauce is spicy and it tastes good. But like they say...first you eat with your eyes and then with your mouth. I'd love to see this changed to a more traditional look. It just looks "off" as is. Great service and good food. And enjoyable birthday lunch...and we got to sit eating down in the restaurant. Lol Always a great option in my regular rotation! https://shanghaiwk.com/

We ordered egg rolls, crab rangoons, beef lo mein with egg drop soup, and hot and sour soup. It was our first time here, so we wanted to try it all. The food was delicious and plenty for my boyfriend & I and a small amount of leftovers. The egg rolls lived up to the hype everyone is talking about. I am not typically a fan, but these were delicious. There's a spice or something that they add that levels up the flavor and with a nice crispy crunch when you bite into it, you can't go wrong with these. We also really enjoyed their rangoons. They were cooked to perfection, but what makes them even better is dipping it in their duck sauce. 10/10 for the egg-rolls and the crab rangoons. For the main we ordered the beef lo mein. It had so much flavor and we enjoyed it a lot. We also tried both the soups. The hot and sour was good, but I have had better elsewhere. My boyfriend really enjoyed the egg drop soup. He liked that it had veggies and tofu in it and was different than other places we have tried 9/10. We really loved this place and are already planning to come back soon even though it is 25 minutes from us, but it's totally worth the drive. Everyone working was so kind and they continued to make sure everything was good with our meal.

Fresh, Delicious, and Always Satisfying!…read more If you're looking for amazing Chinese food in Waukee, this place is a must-try. Every dish I ordered was incredibly fresh, full of flavor, and clearly made with care. You can really tell the ingredients are high quality--nothing felt greasy or overly heavy like some typical takeout spots. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the service was quick and efficient. I also appreciated the variety on the menu, with a few unexpected items that added a fun twist to the usual options. Highly recommend the General Tso's Chicken, beef with broccoli, and their egg rolls--crispy, hot, and packed with flavor. This is definitely going to be my new go-to for Chinese food in the area.

We try one new restaurant each month just to keep things fresh, so this time I suggested Fawn's. I'm really glad we did. I had heard so many great things about the food so I was excited to try it. When I saw the menu, though, I was a little nervous because they serve Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Laotian food. In my experience, restaurants that try to serve all kinds of Asian food rarely do one or all of them well. I ordered Pad Thai and my husband got Evil Jungle Prince. I was very pleased. It was the best Pad Thai I've ever eaten. It was SO good! My husband loved his dish, too. It had chicken and vegetables with a spicy sauce made with red curry and coconut milk. The prices were very reasonable and the portions were huge. We each got two meals out of our dinners. I love it when that happens. The place isn't fancy. It's in a small strip mall and doesn't look like much from the outside. Inside it's very clean and well-kept. There's not much for ambience besides two flat screen TVs. It doesn't matter because it's the food that really stands out. The service was excellent, too. My husband had his iced tea refilled twice without even asking. Great affordable food and good service. What more can you ask for? If you love Asian food, give them a try. I can't wait to go back and try more of their dishes.
