I tried. I really tried. I tried to like it again for the 3rd time. The service was fine this time and the environment was ok. The orange chicken was cold. The fried calamari was hard and extremely chewy. No good pieces. The yellow curry was ok but not enough shrimp. The rice that came with it was hard and under cooked. The green papaya salad was not crunchy and the flavor was very weird. The chicken pad Thai was ok but needed more depth in the flavor. Not sure if it's truly Thai/lao food. I should know...i grew up eating it. The service was nice. She sat us outside. We waited 49 minutes for our food. Ok for a busy day. But they didn't have a packed restaurant for it to be that slow. We were 1 out of 4 families in the building. Spent $140.xx before gratuity. It's really sad to see how little business De Rice had. It has potential but the food will tell you the truth about its current state. It doesn't help that there is another Asian restaurant across the street and it's packed out by looking at the restaurant. I don't recommend this restaurant. I gave it 3 chances at different times and seasons and it was consistently the same mid level quality. I will not be returning. read more

We went inside to get our food but you can do a curbside pick up option, which is nice. The food travels well and tasted great! You can also choose your spice level for each dish. I enjoy spice and got a spice level four. I didn't think it was too spicy. If you don't like spice, still consider spice level 2. The only complaint was the amount of noodles in the curry noodle. Hello First things first! They have ine YUGE menu! Sushi, Rolls, Vietnamese food. I had the Drunken Noodles-recommended in the menu. It was very good. Chicken and noodles with peppers, onions in their drunken flavors. Chicken was tender and noodles done right. I do like things with a little spice. Not over flavoring the food though. I ordered a medium and it had no spice! I had to remember I am in IA and yiu have to make things midwest non spicy probably so you dont have many people complaining. So my point is. If it is not spicy enough ask for some chili oil! Yum yum. The dumplings were very good. They aervice was very friendly! Go give them a try. I am sure locally owned. We ordered and had delivered by grub hub. it was a great delivery situation. it was delivered about 10 to 15 minutes earlier than expected and was hot. I ordered Pad See Ew and Steve had drunken noodles. I liked his better and he liked mine better. they send a prepacked set of silverware and napkin. not done by the restaurant, bought sealed packages. mine didn't have a fork and we had no access to silverware. it was difficult to eat my meal. I don't hold that against the restaurant though. we both had plenty for leftovers the next day. we both ordered a 3 and was perfect for us. plenty of kick. read more

Yesterday, Christmas Day 2025, we placed a carry out order online and when we arrived to pick it up, we found the restaurant closed for the holiday. Good for them! The only "issue" was we were "out" $85.72 and had no food. No biggie - we found something else - and De Rice's "supervisor on duty" the following day was more than happy and helpful in refunding the charge. I placed an order for delivery through Grubhub. I ordered the spicy noodle soup for my entree and the curry puffs as an appetizer; the curry puffs come with cucumber salad. I asked for three stars (out of six) as my spice level, which was appropriate. I think it was five spice powder, as I'm pretty sure I tasted a bit of star anise. The included lime wedge helps balance the spicy out. Chicken was cooked well and I felt I got a good portion for my money. The curry puffs were mild in flavor. Filling was reminiscent of a samosa for comparison, but with yellow curry. The food was packaged appropriately , with all parts separated out; even the cucumber salad. Oh, now this looks wonderful!! Thai and Japanese what's not to like!! Looks like a great place to unwind! Nice atmosphere and friendly faces too!! I chose a nice glass of Kings Estate Pinot Gris and settled in. I took a while to decide as there were so many choices. I decided on Singapore Noodles with a side dish of chili paste as I like spicy food and I didn't see any signs of heat but there it was at the bottom of the menu. Next time I'll study the menu a little more! My Singapore Noodle dish was wonderful!! Definitely coming back in fact, I'm almost happy I have a three day training seminar ahead of me. Holy heck, I love!! First time ever visiting & we managed to make happy hour?? It was a birthday celebration for a friend, so we had a few rounds of drinks, our server was incredibly sweet & wonderful! Very attentive & we actually made friends with all of the ladies working that night. They kept us smiling & went above and beyond in making he environment welcoming!! We started with the Chicken Fried steam rolls, I could have had 4 more orders. Light & crunchy. The sushi was TREMENDOUS & HUGE. My only negative is my personal lack of more stomach to consume. My usual is 2 rolls & they were so massively wonderful we shared a few from each other & had enough to bring home! Honestly so excited to bring the entire family here, as it was quieter, I could hear my friend & the entire experience was wonderful in every way. 6 stars if it was an option. Plus, we only stayed on maybe 2 pages of the entire menu & there's an entire Thai section we missed out on. 11/10 will be returning. read more

This place was delicious! I chose some pumpkin curry. My husband got orange chicken. And we got some curry rice with tofu for our toddler. I really loved the curry. It was enough for two meals, probably could have stretched to three even easy. My toddler ate a huge amount of the rice. My husband and I took bites too and agreed it was very tasty. The orange chicken "was not exactly what (he) was expecting" but still very good he said. We will definitely come back again! read more

Decent dishes, just not the most authentic Thai I've ever had. We were hesitant to order from here...generally it's really hard to do more than one type of cuisine really well. We tried a little of everything. Disappointed by the the panang curry (this version had peanut butter in it and was thicker than I expect a Thai curry to be). The flavor was sweeter than I like, and the flavors were muddled quite a bit. Honestly it was hard to pinpoint what else was in there. The beef was cut into huge slices and was pretty tough. The fried rice was good but missing something...I couldn't put my finger on it. The pad Thai was also lacking the usual deep rich flavor you get from wok cooking. The chicken was also cut into much bigger than bite size pieces, which made it hard to eat. The pad Thai was also sweeter than I'm used to. The heavenly beef was indeed heavenly. Perfectly fried little slices of beef, nicely seasoned. Their online ordering is very easy to use and easy to customize the dish to your liking. Our group ordered 8-9 dishes and it was ready in less than 30 minutes! On the whole a pretty good experience, just not the best I've had. read more

Good experience for my dads birthday. Our waitress was sweet, adorable and had great service. The food came out hot and quick. Not pictured we had edamame, veggie pot stickers and mom Got the dinner portion of the sweet and sour chicken with fried rice. Pad Thai was good but a little dry. Nothing a little lime juice didn't help and fix. Veggie pot stickers were good and the vegetarians at the table loved and appreciated it. The only negative was we weee seated right by the door and a VERY large and loud party group was waiting by the bar for their party room. Great place, friendly attentive service, food was delicious, well presented and generous amount. Great flavors. I had yellow curry fried rice with pork. I added a 2 spice level, which was overwhelming to any other flavors in the fried rice. Next time I'll go with no spice and let the curry shine through. Ambiance was great, not loud and echoing like many restaurants these days. We all were impressed and will return! read more

We visited De Rice for lunch yesterday. It was our first visit. My husband got the De Rice special Noodle and I got some sushi rolls. My husband's review of the noodle: "Presentation looks good, that's about where the good ends. I ordered a 3 out of 6 spice. I didn't see a single piece of chili pepper or any spice. The provided lime was dry. The curry flavor was basically non existent. Is it massaman, red or yellow? Who knows? The description said saucy, but there was no sauce whatsoever. It tasted like boiled noodles got mixed with some carrots and beansprouts. I actually had some leftover taco bell fire sauce and it improved the flavor." I tried his noodles and they were extremely bland. It made me sad, very depressing dish. The sushi rolls were okay. We may give it another go so we can try their other Thai dishes. Our first time here and what a great find. Wonderful food, great service and a nice atmosphere... The Good: Our server was very patient with helping us in selecting our dinners. Offering us many options and telling us about lunch specials as well. The flavor in our food was amazing. Even the egg drop soup, which I generally do not like was a delicious side to our meal. The Bad: It's 3 hours from our home lol. The Ugly Truth: This one became quickly our Asian staple restaurant in the Des Moines area as the food had amazing flavor and the service was wonderful. My mango salsa rolls were bursting with each individual flavor and didn't seem just thrown together. My wife's Udon Curry Chicken was carefully prepared to be enjoyed by us. I don't eat cucumber but the cucumber salad with lime on it was really good, the egg drop soup was pretty good - could have been more spicy Their heat scale is off though she said a 2 was mild so I wanted more so I went with a 3 and there was no spice to it. I've been here a couple times but this time I picked an amazing dish that BLEW ME AWAY! I saw the brown rice with seafood dish was recommended by the chef. That really helped me take a chance on this dish. It's cooked in a chilli sauce with Thai basil. I had the spice level at 4 out of 6. It wasn't very hot at 4. I could still taste the amazing ingredients of the dish. The sauce is light. It's not the thick sauce one sees on Chinese food. I really liked that. The seafood was a generous portion and great size! De Rice did not skimp on the seafood and the table was wowed. A friend at another booth saw my mussels from his booth! This is my favorite dish here. My friend had the samurai roll and ahi tuna. It was better than I expected. The Ahi tuna is prepared well here. I've actually given up on Ahi tuna because I never liked it at other restaurants. De Rice prepares it much better! The Korean wings taste great. The waiter provided wet naps which was exactly what we needed. If my friends suggest De Rice again, it'll be a quick decision for me now.
