Stopped in during their lunch service and it was a good time! Our server was super friendly and the food came out super fast. We came in around the end of their lunch special so it was a little busy. Goes to show they're pretty popular and get a lot of regulars! The ambiance is pretty open and had a lot more room than I expected! I ordered the pad Thai with beef, which is one of their lunch specials. I asked for level 2 spice but I didn't notice anything when I ate it. I did hear it kinda varies depending on the staff so maybe I need to order a higher level. Otherwise the food was pretty good and a great spot for lunch! read more

Des Moines has just expanded it's offerings of food so much in the last 30 years. I think Liam Anivat is still the major owner of.this restaurant and I remember his food at Thai flavors on East 14th Street long ago... I used to go to that restaurant once a week. That restaurant is the mother ship.. I would rotate between Cafe Fusion and Thai Flavors. Liam has become quite a entrepreneur of Thai restaurants he is the major owner of Cool Basil Banana leaf, and Thai Flavors on Ingersoll. He is really worked hard to have very large restaurants that serve delicious Thai food. It's conveniently located along East 14th in a strip mall with limited parking It can be a busy place so depending on the time of day lunch or dinner you may have to walk a little from your parking spot to the restaurant. The restaurant is clean and.older but the food is still great It is similar menu items to his other restaurants. On this particular day I had red curry chicken, I.have had it at all his restaurants and it's consistently good. I always like to support a locally owned business. Liam has developed quite a system and serving large amount of people at all his restaurants although the East 14th restaurants still has that old mom and pop kind of feel. When he first opened this first restaurant there were not that many Thai restaurants around town. Now he's open many himself and there are other many quality Thai food restaurants around town I think all of his restaurants have some healthier menu including fresh vegetable dishes. I believe they all have vegan dishes as well. Of course the restaurant has pot stickers basil stir fry, pad thai, and other traditional Thai restaurant dishes. There is lots of variety in the menu. It's also about expectations, everyone is under staffed, so I always appreciate the service staff who are working. Having said that the service was fast and efficient . It's also about being realistic about the food. The food was served quick and hot. I would definitely check this place out. Saturday night delivery! It was so good! We ordered Spring rolls, Dynamite Wings, Pepper Steak, and the Angry Dish. It was way too much food but oh so worth it! First off the food was delivered as hot and fresh as it would be if we ate it there. The spring rolls were crispy and delicious, the wings honestly made the top 3 list, and I picky! The pepper steak was delicious and the vegetables were so fresh! Lastly the angry dish with chicken was perfect! Warning! If you order it spicy it's no joke! This was excellent. We came looking for Thai Flavors on the recommendation of a friend and it was a great meal on a date night. We started with the pot stickers which were perfect and came out really fast. I asked the wifey to choose two curry dishes she was struggling between as she is a curry lover and I usually like it too. I was to take the one she like least, but neither of us could decide! Both the pumpkin curry and the curry noodles as medium spice was some of the most comforting food. We would recommend it to anyone. By the way, the service was so on point. We never wanted for water and she checked in on us several times. She always had helpful questions for each guest. Came here during Iowa City Jazz Fest on the 4th of July Weekend. Overall pretty solid Thai food and standard service/ambiance. It was my first time trying the Tom Yom soup so the sourness was quite overpowering, with very little meat/vegetable/substance in the soup to keep me satiated. The food is always good and consistent, be ready to handle salty flavors though. The service is good, but the maintenance of water refills and check ins is lacking. So keep this information in your mind when ordering your spice level!! You may have periods without anything to drink if you drink water fast. Thai Flavors has been around for a long time. I was actually kind of surprised when my favorite dining companion and I decided to go there for dinner on Friday, that I hadn't reviewed it yet. So, here we are. Thai Flavors is nestled in the small center near Walgreens on SE 14th & University Ave in Des Moines. It's fairly unassuming from the outside. The decor inside is pleasant. We were seated quickly in a fairly busy restaurant. We decided on the Thai Flavors Healthy Rolls, with shrimp and chicken. We both are huge fans of this style of fresh spring roll, so we always want to try new versions of them. We also ordered a bottle of warm plum sake, as that's also one of our favorites to get with Japanese, Thai, and Vietnamese food. For entrees, my favorite dining companion opted for the Pad See-Ew with chicken and mushrooms, with a spice rating of 4 stars. I went with the Ka-Phrao! with chicken. I went with a spice level of 5. I don't believe in eating mild Thai food, after all! Our appetizer arrived right away, as did our sake. The healthy rolls were good. They consisted of chicken, shrimp, noodles, celery, carrot, and cucumber. They were served with a sweet and sour sauce topped with peanuts along with plum sauce. They were very tasty, and didn't last long. The plum sake was excellent, and went well with our appetizer. We had barely finished our appetizer when our entrees arrived. They were both excellent. The spice level on my Ka-Phrao! was perfect. It was a nice blend of veggies and chicken, in a delicious spicy brown sauce. My dining companion very much enjoyed her Pad See-Ew as well. It had lots or crisp veggies, and an enjoyable spicy, but light, sauce. She did not eat most of hers, but we did take it home to eat later. Overall we were very pleased. I was very thirsty and quickly had my water refilled four different times while we were there. The service was excellent. I highly recommend Thai Flavors to anyone looking for quality Thai food and great service. I know we'll be back again soon! read more

Now for the Thai food: God bless these cooks. It's authentic, it's fresh, spice ratings are accurate, sooo so so good. And everything is reasonably priced. Even better! We have eaten there and done Uber eats as well, and both were great. But i would say if you can, then definitely eat in. It seems rare anymore to have genuinely nice, happy waitresses, but here they exist! We have had fantastic service every time with different servers each time. Went to get some curry. It was average. A little heavy on the fish sauce, which is expected, but not desired. The rice portion is a little light so I got some extra. Wish they had Kao Soi (Northern Thai Curry Noodles), but the menu was long and filled with non-Thai items like sushi and Chinese dishes. The decor is above average and the music is American. Always a favorite! Doesn't matter who I go with or what we get, yes, please! Appetizers are fantastic and haven't found one I didn't like. Tonight was no exception. Dynamite wings are named accordingly. So crispy and great flavor with or without the sauce. And the sauce, love the additional spice in it. I hate curry but my husband loves it and he loved this as well. He had level 6 spicy and we both could handle more. Always and forever will be one of my favorite places in Des Moines to eat! I have never experienced a bad meal here! When your ordering delivering make sure you order with plenty of time, because it does take awhile, but when it gets there its so worth it! I love, love, love the Yellow Curry with Tofu, it's one of my favorite meals in town. Hands down delicious! I have tried it with all sorts of different spice levels and it never disappoints! They have some really great vegan apps too! The place might not look like much for the outside in it's strip mall setting but once you are through the glass doors, you will see white table clothes and black chairs waiting to great you and your group! This is one of the best places to get Sushi in Iowa, they have some fantastic rolls and large portions. My only complaint would be that it does take awhile to get your food but hey that's almost every sushi place. Some of my favorite rolls include the Birthday, Iowan, Thai Flavors, and Captain Crunch. Have had this a couple times for lunch at work delivered by Door Dash and I LO E IT! I am not very brave and I DON'T DO SPICY! I'm terrified of trying new things via delivery because I don't want to end up wasting money and being hungry, but this place makes trying new stuff easy! Their menu when ordering for delivery has every customization option! I ordered The Spider sushi roll both times and was able to have it without avocado & cucumber. I thought the spider needed something creamy after I removed the avocado so when I ordered the second time I was able to add cream cheese and another vegetable. IT WAS PERFECT! The other thing I ordered was the Thai Custard! OMG! IT'S GREEN AND THE MOST DELICIOUS GREEN FOOD I HAVE EVER TASTED IN MY LIFE! BUT you have yo eat it while it's still warm. If you don't the green stuff turns rubbery solid and is hard to get a bite broke off. I will definitely order again and I'd be up for eating in the restaurant given the opportunity! read more

This place is so good! Their website has the best online ordering service I have ever seen. You can fully customize each dish, even getting 1/2 stars on spice levels from 1-5 stars and full stars up to spice level 10. You can add or remove every ingredient and best of all, for me anyway, is that you can specify if you want a dish to be gluten free! Absolutely brilliant! Visited Thai Flavors for the first time on Saturday for a friend's birthday gathering. They were busy but not overwhelmed with people, which made it the perfect spot for our get together. I enjoyed a very tasty mocktail which I would recommend if I could remember the name (there are only two on the menu and the one I had was rimmed with Tajín!). Others at the table with alcoholic mixed drinks were not as lucky, with extremely strong and poor tasting drinks. The menu is extensive - including thai, chinese, curry, and sushi. For an appetizer we ordered crab rangoon (pretty standard but still delicious) and spicy edamame. They offer spice on the edamame 1-6, we ordered a 1-Spice and 2-Spice - neither which we thought were very spicy. I ordered a Godzilla (sushi) Roll for my entree. The roll size was huge and personally I would of preferred a smaller roll to even the proportions of rice to other ingredients. But I think the taste was fine. My friend's recommended the Surf-n-Turf Roll so the table ordered several. Unfortunately they were out of steak for the "turf" and offered to substitute with shrimp, making it a Surf-n-Surf roll. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating. They let us bring in a cake. I am not ready to count them out yet, as I think the foundation is there. Thai food in Iowa. I honestly did not have high expectations for this place but dang, this place exceed my expectations by tenfold. We had the pad Thai and a curry to share. Both were delicious. The portions were plentiful and the flavors were great. It was just the meal I needed between all the fried food at the state fair.
