California Roll and Lobster Mango Roll
    Christina W.

Sushi rolls in the Drake neighborhood!!! Wish I had eaten here sooner back when we lived there. Vegetable rolls with no egg!! Hit the spot for vegetarian egg rolls. I loved they were hot and crunchy. Little bland for flavor. Amazing sushi rolls!! Had the Lobster Mango Roll and the California Roll. I'm simple and boring. But I sure love flavor. The lobster mango roll was everything I was craving for. I love the tempura crunch in it- EXCELLENT! During COVID-19 review: Ordered take out since it's pandemic season. Ordered on the phone to avoid the service charge online. Fast, easy, friendly service over the phone. Mr White ordered the beef pad thai. He liked it. He said 8/10 stars. He says the flavor reminds him of the *99* from Krunchwich. Fast service. We received our order in 20 min. Walk in required to pick up- no curbside- with social distance measures. Will be back again! Hope to sit inside one day and will leave another review.

Tiger Roll. Great diversity of flavors. Very tasty indeed.

I reviewed Haiku near to when it opened, about eight years ago. My favorite dining companion also had a bad experience there, separate from mine, but around the same time. We were informed there had been a change of management, and the current reviews seemed to be pretty good, so we felt they deserved another chance. The decor was nice when we entered. We were greeted and seated immediately. We looked through the menu and made some selections. We opted for the Tiger Roll and the Sashimi Appetizer. I pretty much always require Sashimi when I go to a sushi restaurant. I may or may not get a sushi roll, but Sashimi is an absolute requirement. Yellowtail is my all time favorite (Baby Yellowtail specifically is the real champ), but I don't tend to turn down any Sashimi. Just don't give me Uni. I won't eat that. The Sashimi was fresh, tasty, and very satisfying. My only complaint really was that we didn't order more Sashimi! The Tiger Roll was an impressive combination of flavors. The fish and Avocado blended well, and the "crunch" added some additional texture. A very solid sushi Roll overall. I must say that this visit to Haiku was in stark contrast to my previous visit eight years ago. I can now absolutely recommend them, and am happy to have a good Sashimi restaurant in the Drake area we can go to, as well. Highly recommended!

Food was bland. Service was not good, with an up charge for any kind of change. Little flavor needed more sauce, which was $1.50 more. Will not be coming back. Ambience of the place was ok.

We stopped in while in the Drake area craving a mix of Chinese and Sushi and this hit the spot!!! First of all the place is beautiful, I would love to see it light up at night, with the blue lighted panels all over! It's also kept super clean! It's very sleek and modern! I ordered the Lobster tempura with mango roll and Shrimp tempura roll, both were fantastic! Very delicious. I will say the lobster mango roll was by far my favorite through! Really refreshing for summer! My hubby ordered the Sesame chicken and it was delicious! (I had to steal a bite). Super crispy with a rich sesame sauce! My sister ordered the Chicken udon and it's some of the best and most authentic Udon I have had and she was thrilled! Super flavorful and the noodles were very fluffy! The staff was friendly and our drinks were never empty (or even close). This will definitely be somewhere we come back to!!

The service just gets better and better! We come here all the time, and they often remember exactly what we want upon ordering :) The ambiance is so calming, classy, and romantic. Also, there's lots of vegetarian and vegan options. The prices are quite reasonable, especially for a nice sushi place by Drake University. We will continue to dine here!

Over this past weekend, my sister and I decided to treat ourselves after a stressful week. She and I have a great fondness for sushi and love supporting local businesses. This place is such a treat! The service was wonderful, they took such great care of us. We had the pleasure of being there during their martini special, so naturally we had a couple. I had the Geisha Saketini and the Caramel Appletini and they were delicious!! For my sushi I had the classic Philadelphia roll that was perfect and tried their Las Vegas roll for something spicy. It was so good!! It had the perfect balance of spice and flavor. For dessert, we split their mochi ice cream. We didn't want anything too heavy but a little something sweet to balance all the savory. It turned out just right. We were very comfortably full. I honestly can't wait to go back and try something else!

Grabbed a couple of rolls from here today. Las Vegas and crunch roll. Both excellent. Fresh, flavorful, pretty much perfect

This is my favorite sushi in Des Moines. This is where my husband will eat because he loves the crunch roll! La Sa Tom soup is perfect salty, coconut, onion, and shrimp. Sometimes the soup has more tomatoes than other times. I love the haiku salad with squid, kani, seaweed, panko and an amazing salad dressing. This time I ordered the spider net roll with avocado. I hate mango and they always substitute for me. There is a specific waitress that I love and she always remembers us. Also recommend volcano, sweetheart, monster, oceans delight, drake, and Leo's treat.

We ordered very basic rolls California and shrimp tempura rolls those were $6 and $9. I was with my teen daughter and she only like California rolls. So it was fine. I've had better sushi ironically in Ankeny. For a quick bite this was fine- but I wasn't overwhelmed by it. Service was ok. Food came out fast but was well paced with the appetizer we ordered first. However our server wasn't overly friendly and seemed like she didn't want to be there at all.

Went back for dinner and got the Half Roasted Chicken with Lemon Pan Sauce with the mini lavey mocktail. The dish was great. The greens had a bit of crunch to them. If I could change anything, I would get the sauce on the side. It was a bit overpowering but did not ruin the dish. I felt that the dish was seasoned well on its own. The mini lavey was *fine*. I wouldn't get it again. It was overpriced for the size and the taste was just fine. Service was 10/10. Bathrooms clean. Well decorated.

You don't have to do the four-course meal for $60--they also let you choose just one course if you don't want to spend that much, and they give you a larger portion when you choose only one. My pasta was $22 for the Ragu Rigatoni, and my mom's was $16 for the Gnocchi Sage, which was homemade. They didn't give her a lot, but that's probably because it was handmade. It was delicious! However, I couldn't eat my pasta because they don't list the ingredients, and after taking my first bite, I realized it was pork. I don't eat pork and avoid it like the plague, so I had to spit it out. I ended up getting it to go and was disappointed that I hadn't asked about the ingredients beforehand. So, if you have any dietary restrictions, definitely make sure to ask before ordering. They packaged up our pasta for us, and the staff was very friendly. It's a cute, small restaurant with a really cool kitchen in the middle where you can watch them prepare the dishes in real time. Our waiter even left us some bread and butter in our to-go bag, which was really nice. I'd definitely come back next time I'm in town, but I'd probably try the spaghetti and pepper dish!
