I was craving some sushi and decided to try a new place. I ordered pickup because I'm a huge fan of sushi and Asian food. I was super excited to try it, but I left feeling really disappointed. The sushi was pretty bland, and the soy sauce tasted weird. It was like I'd never had it before. I've had a lot of sushi in my life, so I know when something tastes off. I also ordered yellowtail, but it was super thin and faded yellow. It's supposed to be thicker and deeper yellow, but it wasn't. The service was terrible. I walked in for the first time and didn't know where to pick up my order. The waiter seemed clueless and didn't know what I was even doing there. It's not clear where to pick up the orders, and there was no one there to help me when I walked in. It's also not clear when you order the instructions.

I've ordered out and ate in at Ninja several times. Been meaning to leave a review, just now getting around to it. I had one strange and disorderly experience while ordering out (it was made worse because my partner was sick that day and I intended to get soup for him). The person who rang up my order actually ran my card for the wrong order. They requested I come back, I just called once I got home to give them my card to refund and re-ring for the correct order. Then, I discovered my soup was not in the order after we were off the phone. So, I ended up having to drive back. That was a mess. But, mistakes happen. The food was still decent just wish I didn't have to make extra trips. :) Their fish variety could be better but it's Iowa so I understand on limited selections. What they do have is decent and fresh enough. When I'm craving sashimi, this is my spot; it's also five minutes drive from home. They're now serving bubble tea -- which I didn't try in my recent visit but plan to have it eventually. They also have fresh wasabi (up charged), but worth it because I haven't found a spot with fresh wasabi in the metro. Their ramen is best in the metro that I've had -- it's okay if you're craving ramen. Overall, I highly recommend.

Five stars all the way every day! Ninja is my family's favorite and the only place they don't fight or argue about eating. Ramen, katsu, sushi YES TO ALL. Always fresh and delicious. The ramen is the whole reason to dine in. The flavors are all your favorite and tastes as traditionally expected. Ramen is egg free. Soup base is dairy free (even tho it's so creamy!) Can make it egg free by asking no egg. We love bringing friends here, they end up loving Ninja as well. Our favorites are the chicken katsu dish, spicy edamame appetizer, Cha shu ramen (spicy and non spicy). I love the solid bowls and utensils. They give the restaurant a bold upgrade to their competitors who use disposable.

I have been a couple of times now. Everything I have walked through the door, within seconds I have been greeted. I have never had to wait for a table. My dining companion and I went for Ramen , I have not tried it here yet. At the last second, I changed my mind and got sushi. I did his ramen. He ordered it spicy, had a great kick (secretly jealous, I switched my choice to sushi) The sushi was good. Good flavor combination. I think it was the Angel roll. All the sushi I have ordered there comes beautifully plated. There is usually a plastic plant/tree attached to the plate with wasabi.

So this is a new restaurant in the Waukee area and I wanted to try it because I love a good sushi roll. I've ordered take out from them three times now and it's legit! The sushi is amazing although I've only tried the shrimp tempura and eel avocado rolls, they both were delicious! Also, I've tried the crab Rangoon which is very light and flaky, good flavor inside. However, it may be a little pricey for some but it is worth it (see pics to judge for yourself and compare to menu prices). I have not eaten inside and do plan on doing so soon! Overall, I am impressed with this restaurant so far! 5/5

The ambiance is great. It is hip and cool. The service is one point and the food is fresh and delicious. I haven't had a bad meal there ever. We ordered the Kani Salad, scallion pancakes, cali roll, and tempura chicken and veggies with onion soup. All was so good! The portions are very large and the prices are average. The place is very clean and the parking is ample. It looks like they have outdoor seating for summer too. It was a great choice for us after the movies on Christmas Eve. They had so many servers and staff it was crazy!

We came in on Christmas night 2023. The place was packed, and we had a little bit of a wait, but that's totally understandable. The food was great and very reasonably-priced. The staff were extremely friendly. Overall, we had a great experience, and we plan on visiting again soon!

First, the decor is nice and ambient. Second, the food wasn't amazing but it was decent quality. But the service was awful. This place may be better for just take out. I ate with my friend and the waitress forgot to put in one of the things we ordered. Then while I was eating she was cleaning the table next to us she had no awareness she sprayed me twice with cleaner. Then it took her ages to check in with us for water or for our check. Had to flag down somebody else that passed to finally get our checks. Overall very unhappy since she almost sprayed my food with cleaning chemicals and wasn't very attentive of us. One chomp out of 3 chomps at best. -George the Croc

Came for a business dinner and the ambiance was perfect. Space was clean, quiet, and service not pushy. Food quality was great with the sushi tasting fresh with great cuts. My colleague had the seafood ramen and raved it was delicious where they seemed to use the tonkotsu (pork) broth and had plenty of seafood variety. Excited to try some specialty rolls on the next visit!

Service was great , area was clean and nicely decorated. The food wasn't as amazing as I was hoping. I do have higher standards for sushi tho. The bao bun was delicious ! The rolls could have more options and less use of the crab mix in everything. The plates were huge, perhaps too big we didn't have room on our table for three rolls ? I got a fried ice cream for my bday dessert so that was a nice ending .

Okay y'all, really nice clean restaurant, great menu so many options for vegan or gluten-free if needed. The food is fantastic, quick, full of favor, portion sizes are excellent with fun presentation. Spicy edamame also soo good, Soup dumplings also great appetizer the broth was so good. Cucumber jalapeno Margarita was refreshing, I can't remember the name if this sushi but it was sooo good it was recommended by our amazing waitress. Would come again!

There wasn't many sushi spots in Des Moines a decade ago. So I'm really glad new ones like Ninja are popping up, especially in areas as far west as Waukee. For a sushi spot that just opened, it was pretty busy for a Friday night. The ambiance is really refreshing and bright. It's not very dark or moody like some kinda steakhouse or dive bar. The wait staff are really quick to seat you and they're awesome with service. The appetizers were great, I had the takoyaki and dynamite mussels. I honestly was so hungry I forgot to take a picture. Trust me when I say the plating is Instagram sexy. Obviously, I had to try the sushi and sashimi. The fish was super fresh and clean tasting. Chilled perfectly and the texture was firm like its supposed to be. The salmon and yellowtail do not disappoint. The prices were about what you'd expect, not terribly pricey and the menu had some under $20 set dinner options. The menu is pretty extensive. I'm going to have to come back to try the ramen and Japanese cold noodle dishes. They also have Katsu!

She immediately demanded to know what we wanted. I told her we were getting soy sauce and a few other items, but she still followed us around the entire store, watching us like we were doing something wrong. Every minute she kept pushing us: "Can you check out now?" We were literally just trying to shop. When I said we were still looking at a few more items, she told us she was "not comfortable" and actually asked us to leave the store. I've never experienced such rude, unprofessional customer service anywhere. If this is how they treat paying customers, I won't be coming back -- and I'd strongly suggest others avoid this place too

I walked out with some frozen pork lumpia, frozen kimbap, frozen Korean cheese corn dog, and some Nongshim gochujang shrimp crackers. My total was $36 and change. Parking is easy with a them being in a business strip with a large lot. The owners were polite and courteous. I was greeted when I walked in and thanked when I left. I've lived in SF and Chicago and never seen this type of place before. It's an untapped area in the food market and so clever! I've even visited Vietnam as a tourist but never tried the street food there (because I didn't want any stomach problems) so I was very excited to stop in after my hair appt. The place is fun, clean and bright. The workers are very attentive. I was greeted upon entry and waved goodbye to as I left. They actually have a lot of food and drinks to offer but the signs for it were a bit scattered. They had a chalkboard of Boba drinks and street snacks. But there is also a menu at the front counter that has different options for food (sticky rice, stir fried food and desserts) and also different options for drinks (various types of Vietnamese coffee, smoothies, tea lovers, squeezed drinks). I had a bit of trouble trying to stay focused on what I really wanted. I ended up ordering the sticky rice (stuffed with ground pork) and the deep fried spring rolls. Both were delicious and came with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. Near the cashier there were other prepackaged home made sweets. I bought this homemade snack made of bananas, pineapples and peanuts. It was very yummy! To the left of the cashier were other individually wrapped snacks (one of the snacks looked like it had durian in it), soft drinks and flan. Maybe in the future they can make asian custard tarts? Or Chinese cake with sponge cake and fluffy icing? I am a huge fan of Vietnamese food like banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches), bún thịt nướng (Vietnamese grilled pork and cold rice noodles), Chè Ba Màu (three color dessert) and shrimp spring rolls with peanut sauce. These are probably not popular local Iowan flavors but I'm keeping hope alive that if they make it, the people will come. I look forward to seeing what other options this place will offer.
