What a great find! It's definitely a place to try out for some snacks. It's a bit on the pricey side for street food but still worth to try it. It is also not fast, so it does take a while to get your food. So plan to wait for your food about 15 mins or more. We got the papayas salad. It had Vietnamese style beef jerky. So it's dried and more chewy. I wished it had a bit more heat (spicy) to it, since there wasn't. It was more on the savory and sweet side. The skewers are fried with no batter. So it's simple but tasty. The crispy rice sandwich was definitely worth it. It's crispy, savory, and a slight chew from the sticky rice. The lotus milk tea was top notch! Sweet, creamy, and a slight floral note to it! The limeade is actually bubbly! So it's not a juice but still good! Finally, the macaroni beef stir fry is the best choice. It's savory, tender, has a more teriyaki flavor to it too. Overall will come again!

What a hidden gem, this place is fantastic. Vietnamese street food and a variety of Asian snacks with amazing drinks. I got the grilled chicken with sticky rice, be aware that the chicken are grill chicken that is on a bone, but it falls off the bone, great favor, love the dipping sauce and pear is great with the sticky rice. I got the tamarin pineapple lemolemonade, amazing and very sweet! I did purchase a snack that I haven't tired yet, but super excited. This place is quirky and very unique i loved the vibe, service was great, can't wait to go back.

Where to begin?! This place is amazing. Went for lunch on a Friday not sure what to expect. We were greeted very warmly and the staff was very eager to answer any questions we had. The drink menu is large and everything is made fresh with fresh ingredients. No powders or substitutes. Tried the limeade and the orange lemongrass peach tea. Both were sweet and very refreshing. Tried the deep fried pork spring roll and pork fried sticky rice as appetizers. Both were freshly made and very very good. The fried sticky rice is large and very filling in itself. We tried the ramen stir fry with beef and the macaroni stir fry with beef. We left very full and very satisfied with everything we tried!!! The store also has a snack section with various Asian snacks and drinks. We left with some stuff for the kids to try. I can not recommend this place more! Get in there before it becomes too popular and the line is out the door. The west side of the Des Moines Metro was long over due for a great Vietnamese restaurant!

I love it here so much! My husband is always greeted so friendly when he goes through those doors. They always remember us and we always miss the food. Despite it being a bit higher in price, it's well worth it all!!! Since 9months ago, we have seen the menu change a lot. Now when you order you must not be picky! Vietnamese culture is seasoned by fresh ingredients and not usually spices like most American cuisine needs. My all time favorite dish right now has to be their Crab soup with duck egg. It's delicious. The duck egg will look like mushroom but it's not and it's AMAZING. I wish I got more. Everything on the menu is always delicious. And if you haven't tried their kumquat lime tea, it's a must too!!

Dinner was Dragon Roll, Pho (Rare Steak and Meatball), Chicken Pad Thai and Ramen Noodles with Chicken. The food itself was delicious and prepared perfectly. Only downside was we ordered hot tea (Jasmine tea) which they apparently ran out of and it didn't arrive until we were well onto our main courses. The friendly seemingly inexperienced staff seemed overwhelmed by the full house (had to ask for plates for appetizers, long wait tor check and to cash out) but we went with the flow and enjoyed opportunity to hang out and spend time chatting. Will be back.

The egg rolls were the star of the meal: hot, fresh, crispy, and packed with flavor. Easily my favorite item. I ordered the Brisket Pho, and while it looked great, it was just okay for me. Having eaten pho across California, Alaska, Nevada, Arizona, and Texas, I usually look for a clean, rich broth with a slight sweetness. This broth didn't quite deliver that flavor profile, and the brisket was a little tougher and chewier than I expected. My total came to $40.03. Was it the best pho I've had? No. Was it the worst? Not even close. The atmosphere and service were excellent, and the egg rolls alone are worth ordering. I'd come back to try other items on the menu. If you're in the area, give Pho Shobu a try and see what you think for yourself.

Potstickers were just okay. The dipping sauce didn't do them any favors--this felt like an easy upgrade they're missing. Imperial Egg Rolls were the biggest letdown. At $17 for three, I expected something memorable...they just weren't. Pad Thai landed squarely in "average." Grilled Honey Roast Chicken Egg Noodles was a mixed bag. The chicken itself was delicious, but the noodles were pretty bland--and oddly, they didn't really work together. Royal Fried Rice was a win. The combo of BBQ pork, sweet sausage, and shrimp came together really well. Seafood Noodle dish was unfortunately pretty bland. All in all, a few bright spots, but not a place we're rushing back to--though I'd reorder those wings without hesitation.

The entrees are well portioned. My favorite style of Pho is Soft meats. The tenderloin is too chewy but flavorful. The soft poached egg and the fresh veggies are phenomenal. The service is great with the wait staff being very attentive. However they were out of Mocktail offerings which is not good when more gatherings are opting for non alcoholic flavors. They need to stock up for millennials and the genzeers who want options. The total vibe was very peaceful and it allowed you to sit and think.

It's had an impact but it's still at the top of my list when I'm craving Chinese food. This weekend was my 54th birthday. My daughter is at camp, but I wanted to do something with my son. The place I wanted to try was China Chef however I didn't realize they had closed their dining room area. After driving from Clive to the South side we changed plans in the China Cheft parking lot and headed to Waukee. We were greeted and seated right away as we walked on and were seated at a booth. The place is starting to show it's age. The carpet...it needs replaced. But overall it's clean and if nothing else it's familiar. We were presented with menus and glasses of water. Staff checked on us regularly throughou the meal Since it was between 1100 AM and 200 PM we were eligible for the lunch special options. It's a smaller menu, but comes with an egg roll, crab rangoon, your choice of soup (egg drop or hot and sour), and the entree. My son ordered the orange chicken with egg drop soup with a soda. I ordered the Yu Shiang shrimp with hot and sour soup and stuck with only water. I LOVE Shanghai's crab rangoons. They're definitely more on the sweet side. I ordered another order of those. Love them! The house hot mustard. Be careful! It's easy to overdo and it will clear your sinuses like tear gas. But it's SO good...! The orange chicken was excellent as usual. The Yu Shiang shrimp... It's the first time I've ordered it there. The deep red of the sauce was a little off putting. I'm used to a spicy brown sauce. The sauce on the Yu Shiang shrimp... This is just a visual thing though. The sauce is spicy and it tastes good. But like they say...first you eat with your eyes and then with your mouth. I'd love to see this changed to a more traditional look. It just looks "off" as is. Great service and good food. And enjoyable birthday lunch...and we got to sit eating down in the restaurant. Lol Always a great option in my regular rotation! https://shanghaiwk.com/

Biggest disappointment was that while alcohol options showed on the menu, they were unable to serve any alcohol - claiming that their liquor license had not yet been renewed. I was craving a spring roll with peanut sauce, so to start things off, we ordered #90 Bo Bia steamed spring rolls with shredded shrimp, carrots and sausage served with plum sauce (see picture). While the wrap was thicker than the 'paper' wraps that I'm used to, they were very good - and I really liked the plum sauce. My wife was undecided and our very helpful waiter Archie, suggested #69 Com Ga Chien Xa Ot (chicken breast fried with spicy lemon grass - see picture). It was good, but both of us would have preferred a bit more spice, as we ended up adding Siracha at the table. I was considering #99 Banh Xeo Vietnamese style crispy pancake stuffed with shrimp, pork & veggies based on the menu picture, but Archie talked me into #97 Banh Tam Bi Xiu Mai udon noodles with shredded pork, steamed pork meatballs and veggies instead (see picture). I was impressed with the coconut milk and lemon sauce that he poured over it when served with the instructions to stir it all together - very tasty combination of savory, sweet and tart, with a very slight spiciness. It's conveniently located in the strip mall with plenty of parking..it's the same mall off of University with Campbell's health foods, Hy-Vee pharmacy, Frederich's coffee. This restaurant still has that old time mom and pop Asian family feel it's a definite classic type vibe with Auntie snd the neices up front taking orders and the rest of the family in the back cooking and putting to go orders together. I always like to support a locally owned business. It's also about expectations, everyone is under staffed, so I always appreciate the service staff who are working. Having said that the service was fast and efficient . It's also about being realistic about the food. This is not a mall based chain restaurant or a high end bistro somewhere. The food was well prepared hot and delicious. This is a Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant. So there's lots of variety in the menu. I have had the build your own Pho, Korean style Kalbi ribs. They also have Hunan Chinese style dishes, i have tried Mongolian beef, combination fried rice and potstickers. I also have tried the pork fried egg rolls. I usually go for a late lunch early dinner. I talked to the owner and asked her how they made their soup and she said they boiled bones and added their own spices which is the traditional way to do things, I think they have a good soup base, all soup comes with sprouts and fresh Thai basil, I usually add bok choy, brisket and steak. They have plenty of other Vietnamese dishes too. I have enjoyed their pork vermicelli which is a cool salad type dish which is nice on a hot day. Some of my friends really enjoy their chicken wings.
