Still looking for something new in terms of a catfish sandwich staying in keeping with the Lenten season, but the Vietnamese Sandwich caught my eye. My usual wait- staffer was on vacation, but another wait staff was pleasant, cheerful and expeditiously took my order. The best part of the Vietnamese Sandwich was the toasted, fresh and well seasoned bun served with fresh veggies and roasted pot belly. My cousin and I was in the mood for soup and recommended this restaurant nearby. I checked out the menu and noticed they have the hot stone bowl. Restaurant is located in a strip mall, there's a ton of free parking to choose. Restaurant is good size and clean. The server greeted us when we entered and told us to sit anywhere. They had a lunch rush but we didn't mind. My pho came out piping hot and the meats on the side. Surprised there's an egg, I don't add eggs to my pho. One of the best pho spots in DSM. The stone pho bowl is a must try, the broth is amazing and everything is super fresh so it can cook inside of the stone bowl. Also try the beef rib with rice, very good with so much flavor and a side a broth soup. Don't leave without trying their mocktails all 3 of them are amazing, fresh and delicious. The food was delicious. We got the crab Rangoons for an appetizer. I am very picky about Rangoons, and they met my expectations. For the main we got the Pho Special. The Pho broth is probably the best I have had. The chili oil here seems a lot more spicy than other places. The service was excellent, but we were the only one there. Finally a pho restaurant next to my home if you're looking for a great pho in West Des Moines this is a great one to try during their soft opening. They had free drinks so we were able to try more than one type. The stone bowl pho was interesting I never had a raw egg to add although the egg never really fully cooked (I'll pass). The noodles sitting in the bowl too long had overcooked the noodles so eat fast. I also went back to try the regular pho without the stone bowl and the noodles were undercooked. Considering they're brand new I would say I give it some time before returning until they get situated, otherwise give them some patience. read more

As a Viet person, I can recommend this restaurant! Grilled Pork Banh Mi The meat was a different consistency than what I'm used to, but it has good flavor! The fried green onion in oil tasted so good and something I only see in Viet homes, never in a Viet restaurant. That tells me there is intentionality with flavor here. Good bread as well, which is very important for us Viets lol. Literally what "Banh mi" means. Pho Viet Special Though it looks cool, it's a little gimmicky for me. With the amount of noodles in the bowl and food on the side, it's less balanced in portions in my opinion. My friend got it, but I can't see myself getting it. He ran out of broth before he got through his food. Beef in a Leaf Surprisingly so much flavor! Would highly recommend getting this. One order was enough for 4 people to share. Combination Pho Def recommend getting this. Broth was good, better than what we have in Omaha. Meat and noodles were good portions too. We stopped in this place to give it a try. There used to be a very bad chinese restaurant here before. We started with shrimp and cream cheese rolls and boy were they good! Then I ordered the beef Pho it was flavorful and the meat and noodles were quite plentiful too. My mother had the pork pad Thai and she really liked it. She said the pork was so plentiful she was so surprised with the amount in the portion. The restaurant was clean and bright. It was however extremely cold in there. The service was fine. Everything we got did not have alot of flavor. For the pho, they gave 2 pieces of meat each and the tendon was yellow? The chicken wings were over fried, no sauce, did not taste like garlic butter. The food here is good most days, but the customer service needs serious improvement. The staff and owners come across as very rude and dismissive, and they don't honor the promotions advertised on their windows -- when asked, they just say the deals are "old." A relatively new Vietnamese restaurant and I had some time to try it out. The restaurant was clean and had a welcoming/relaxed atmosphere. As a first timer, I tried out the stone bowl Pho because it was something that I hadn't see before. I wasn't disappointed. The soup was INCREDIBLY hot. Like literally boiling as it came to the table. It was served with all the standard pho fix in's including a fresh/raw egg that you crack in. The egg turned the soup into an egg drop style broth which elevated the experience in my opinion. The broth is one of the best in the Des Moines area. The staff was great and answered any questions. If you do order this soup set some time aside because the soup stays hot for the entire time you're eating because of the stone bowl. I will be returning when they reopen. The staff also informed us that they will be closed in January and will open up in February with their full menu. read more
