Absolutely amazing Pho! Flavor is probably the best I've had! Broth is so flavorful no additional sauce is needed!

It wasn't my intent to review this visit to Rolling Wok. But things change... I just know I really like their food, I was hungry, and it was on the way. A perfect storm some would say! I first tried Rolling Wok during the pandemic and their ability to offer pick up via a drive up window on the North side of the building was a great fit for that season. The food and service has always been on point! I sure wish I made it over there more often than I do... Everything comes out of the kitchen hot, fresh, and the depth of flavor is always impressive. The business is in a strip so parking is easy. It's seat yourself. Seating is a small bar and low top tables and chairs. Standard table service for ordering and payment. Love the decor and vibe here. Modern but with a hint of traditional. The menu is front and back and varies from Thai and other regional dishes, including curries, to a few standard Chinese items. We ordered the following: 2x egg rolls 1x Drunken noodles lo mein style with chicken (4-vey hot) 1x Shrimp and beef fried rice (1-mild) 1x soda (Coke products) 1x unsweetened ice tea Abby was serving us last night and she did an amazing job. I'm assuming Abby as that was what the receipt said. Even though she's helped me before I'm not sure we've ever formally introduced ourselves. I need to be better about that... I do know she's the owner's sister. As far as I could tell they were probably a staff of two last night. She was working the front by herself and I'm sure there was at least one person in the kitchen cooking. The food was great as always! The drunken noodles lo mein style is a favorite of mine! A level 4 or 5 really brings the heat... But Abby is the star of the show! So patient and personable...! Couldn't ask for a more amazing host! If you haven't been... Rolling Wok is well worth you making the short trip out to Grimes. https://rollingwokgrimes.com/

I asked the server about the papaya salad combo and once she told me it's her family's recipe and the Lao sausage was her fav, I had to have it! My food came out perfectly! Sticky rice was perfectly made, the papaya salad had the exact amount of spice and the sausage was sooo tasty! I'm in town for business, but if I'm back again I would definitely try more of their dishes.

It's had an impact but it's still at the top of my list when I'm craving Chinese food. This weekend was my 54th birthday. My daughter is at camp, but I wanted to do something with my son. The place I wanted to try was China Chef however I didn't realize they had closed their dining room area. After driving from Clive to the South side we changed plans in the China Cheft parking lot and headed to Waukee. We were greeted and seated right away as we walked on and were seated at a booth. The place is starting to show it's age. The carpet...it needs replaced. But overall it's clean and if nothing else it's familiar. We were presented with menus and glasses of water. Staff checked on us regularly throughou the meal Since it was between 1100 AM and 200 PM we were eligible for the lunch special options. It's a smaller menu, but comes with an egg roll, crab rangoon, your choice of soup (egg drop or hot and sour), and the entree. My son ordered the orange chicken with egg drop soup with a soda. I ordered the Yu Shiang shrimp with hot and sour soup and stuck with only water. I LOVE Shanghai's crab rangoons. They're definitely more on the sweet side. I ordered another order of those. Love them! The house hot mustard. Be careful! It's easy to overdo and it will clear your sinuses like tear gas. But it's SO good...! The orange chicken was excellent as usual. The Yu Shiang shrimp... It's the first time I've ordered it there. The deep red of the sauce was a little off putting. I'm used to a spicy brown sauce. The sauce on the Yu Shiang shrimp... This is just a visual thing though. The sauce is spicy and it tastes good. But like they say...first you eat with your eyes and then with your mouth. I'd love to see this changed to a more traditional look. It just looks "off" as is. Great service and good food. And enjoyable birthday lunch...and we got to sit eating down in the restaurant. Lol Always a great option in my regular rotation! https://shanghaiwk.com/

Tons of employees running around and cleaning and refreshing the food. The only down side was the drink/ice/dirty dish area was across from the buffet tables and in the middle of the restaurant and it had a yucky smell. Would try again tho.

Chinese, other Asian dishes, sushi,…read morehibachi, pho, standard Chinese restaurant appetizers, salad, fruits, desserts, along with standard American comfort food too for kids or adults who just aren't adventurous... 10 different buffet islands on the floor with around 14 items per island. Might be more and might be less...depending on the size of the pans. Think tetris. Some pans and larger than others. The hibachi, pho, and sushi are off to the side. You're greeted at the front as you walk in. Take a minute to check out the koi pond...! A hostess will seat you and your party. Seating is a combination of booths and low top tables and chairs. Your drink order is taken at the table and you pay with your server at the end of the meal. Staff is usually friendly enough and attentive as far as refills and clearing dishes. When I'm doing low carb I love this place for it's hibachi grill...! While the selection of vegetables, meats, and sauces isn't as vast as places that specialize in only hibachi... Instead of the small bowls like HuHot this place uses dinner plates! While I'm not an architectural engineer myself...I've seen a few go through the hibachi line here! The plate they hand across to the grill cook looks like a friggin' layer cake...! Lol At HuHot when they plate the food from my bowl after grilling I often think... That's it...? Here a dinner plate of stacked ingredients equals a plate of food. Heck... I've seen those masters of architecture get their one piled high plate of ingredients handed back to them on two plates... I was seriously impressed! I've never walked away from this buffet hungry. There is something for everyone and will hit across multiple diets... The worst thing I could say is that they could be quicker about restocking some items when they run low, and be a little more attentive to what is going on in the food area itself... Sounds pretty good so far right? Why not four or five stars...? The other patrons... And this is what I mean about staff being a little more attentive to the food area itself. I've seen the best of people here and the worst of people. I've watched other customers help strangers. Sometimes helping them by serving the items for them while they held their plate. Sometimes offering to carry a plate back to someone's seat for them as they navigate with a walker or crutches. The other side... I've watched a guy take too much fried rice and then he literally shoved it back from his plate into the hotel pan with his bare hands... People coughing and sneezing without trying to stifle it or cover their nose and mouth... Yes...they have sneeze guards, but we all know they don't catch everything. When they had the deep containers of ice cream I've seen people bring their arm out, after scooping, with ice cream glistening off their arm hair... smh The restaurant is clean. The buffet pricing is fair. They're open on holidays when a lot of other places are closed. I eat here and I'm not going to tell someone not to... Just be smart. Go at peak times. If possible... Watch for the trays of fresh food being brought out. And be aware of your own buffet etiquette... Don't be one of "those" people.
