Siam table is my favorite Thai food place in all of Des Moines and Ankeny combined. I've been coming here since their first opening and will continue to visit many many moons from now. They have the kindest servers, the seating is a little small but makes it important that you a lot yourself time if you wish to sit. I love their Thai tea, I've had their garlic friend rice many times and you must try their beef at least once.

Well we ordered it delivered. So I'm can't speak to anything but the food on this visit. We found Siam table shortly after moving to Ankeny. They only offered carry out and delivery at that time due to Covid, so we have never actually eaten at the restaurant. We have tried many different meals form here but always seem to gravitate towards the stir fry. The crab rangoon and the spring rolls are always crispy and delicious even when delivered. The portions are big and the quality is always consistently delicious. I know what I am having for lunch today...leftovers! :) If you are looking for a great option for Thai or Asian flavors they have a great menu and you never have to wait long!

a bowl of noodles and chopsticks - A black plastic takeout container contains stir-fried yellow noodles mixed with vegetables such as bean sprouts, green peppers, and shredded chicken or egg. Chopsticks are placed on top of the food. The container is on a dark surface, with a partially visible plastic lid and a white paper or napkin nearby.

I was out of town so I looked up on Yelp restaurants in the area. Thai sounded good so I tried this place. No dine in, ok I can get it to go. I ordered the chicken Pad Thai. 25 minutes wait I was told! Yikes! Ok so back to the car I went. They did look a little busy so that is a good sign. It was only about 15 minutes so that was good. After I got back to my hotel I was surprised to see a large serving, Ya! I was starving so I jumped in and I found it very dry and the shredded chicken was quite different from what I was use to. I asked for medium spice and that is what I felt I received. Was it good? Yes. Was it great? No. Will I go back if I was in town? Doubtful.

Inside - The image shows the interior of a restaurant with a wooden bar counter and seating area. There are three high chairs at the bar, and a dining table with four chairs in the foreground. The wall behind the bar is decorated with wooden shelves and crates, some holding wine bottles and other items. The ceiling has modern lighting fixtures, and the floor is made of light-colored wood or laminate. The overall decor emphasizes a rustic, cozy atmosphere.

Siam table It's conveniently located in the strip mall in Ankeny with plenty of parking.I always like to support a locally owned business. It's also about expectations, everyone is under staffed, so I always appreciate the service staff who are working. Having said that we came at 1:00 and the first thing they said to us is we close at 2:00. It looks like there was one person in the front and then the cook in the back. It's also about being realistic about the food I know this is not a high-end bistro. My guest and I were both first-timers here but both of us have experience and enjoying Thai in other Asian food. We both had pad Thai and it was very sweet. We were told that's how it's made. I didn't want to argue but I have choices as well. My friend just shrugged. There is lots of variety in the menu. So there might be other options to try but.... I said to my friend with so many good Asian options out there it may be some time before I give them a second chance, and he said sadly I agree. If I could I would give them a two and a half more about the service and the quality of the food. It also could be that the staff and chef are different at lunch than at dinner

plates of food and drinks on a table - A dining table features a variety of Asian cuisine including fried dumplings with dipping sauces, a plate of stir-fried noodles, bowls of rice, and a vegetable stir-fry with peppers and eggplant. There are glasses of water and condiments on the table, with a restaurant setting in the background showing other diners and wooden chairs.

I ate here with my little family while we were waiting for our sons' hair appointment nearby. The atmosphere is small and quaint. There are some tables with half booths and the rest are regular tables. The service was good. She was quick, efficient, and nice. She handled all of the tables and to-go orders. They have lunch specials where you can add two appetizer items (crab Rangoon, spring rolls or potstickers) for an additional charge of $3.00. The lunch portions were good and dinner portion was a great size. Easily two more meals for me. The Food: -Kid's Fried Rice: 3.5/5 It was good. Nothing bad or great about it but if your kids like fried rice, they will like this one -Spicy Eggplant & Asparagus Beef: 4/5 this was tasty with a "Spicy" Sweet Basil sauce. It wasn't spicy to me but it was good. I also don't prefer the lean beef in stir-fries because it tastes super dried out but I know a lot of people prefer this. Will get again -Cashew Beef: 3.5/5 This was good as well. Will probably get again if we go again. Lots of veggies but the sauce was a little light. Delicious nonetheless -Pad Thai Chicken: 3.5/5 Again, the lean meats isn't my thing but lots of people prefer it. It was just more on the dry side for me. The Pad Thai and sauce itself was pretty good. They forgot to give me the peanuts and lime but once I asked for it, they brought it out -Panang Beef: 4/5 the flavors were good and the veggies were abundant and delicious! Loved this dish All in all, I would come back if I'm in the area and craving Thai Food!

I met two friends here for lunch and will definitely return again. I had the Sweet Basil lunch special with shrimp and really enjoyed it. Because I am a light-weight when it comes to the heat/spice index, I ordered as a 0 on a scale of 0-5. I am glad I didn't order with any higher number because there was plenty of flavor at the 0 level for my taste. My dining companions ordered dishes they enjoyed. The decor is warm and inviting. Due to the lack of space, there is not much privacy afforded so I wouldn't recommend for an intimate dinner, but it is a great place for lunch or a quick dinner out with family. The prices are fair and the servings are adequate. I will visit again to try a new dish.

We had a 5:30 reservation & major disappointment from the kitchen & arrival of food. We waited 41 minutes for our appetizers to arrive. My sushi wasn't cold - which made me feel like it was waiting out for a moment. I will say outside of that my husbands Mongolian beef was delightful. We never received the appetizer we ordered. I ordered the Marilyn Monroe & angry dragon - I would recommend both. To give an example of their timeline - the table next to us got their appetizer within being seated 11 minutes into their arrival & those to the right of us got their entire at the 20 minute mark (average server timeline). The reason given that our order was taking time, was they behind a lot of to go orders. Again, not devastated but for sure not recommending to any friends anytime soon. Also when compensated for this - they didn't charge us for the appetizer we didn't receive (thank goodness?). And then discounted a drink & sake bomb. Honestly as someone who's served for 11+ year an entree at any other location would've been the appropriate gesture. But hey, those combined were around the equivalent of one of my rolls, so sure.

I was craving a Spring Roll. I also ordered a small sampler which included 2 egg rolls and 2 Rangoon. My girlfriend and I ordered the last of the fried rice for the day. We got our order to go and took it back home. The spring roll was divine! The crab Rangoon and rolls were also good! The rice, was "end of day rice" . I would 100% go back and get more earlier in the evening. I highly recommend and will be back for more delicious spring rolls and try other thing. The noise level was high as there was a good amount of people here today and they were making lots of noise at the grill. Even though the grill was hopping there were a good number of open tables. As I reported before, 5 stars for the waitress. She was quick, attentive and helpful with any questions. It really speaks volumes for the staff to continuously have good reviews. I wasn't hungry enough to have the buffet and didn't think I would eat my fill of what it cost. We decided to get the Taste of Bounty Appetizer sampler. You get 3 of each of their fried appetizers. There is crab rangoon, wantons and rolls. The sampler was good. All items were fried and served with a sweet and sour sauce. I also ordered a house salad to have with the appetizer. The waitress really talked up the made in house ranch so I took the bait. The salad was just iceberg chunks, couple cucumber slices, tomatoes and croutons. The ranch was really good. She also brought a bowl of white rice to go with the buffet purchase, but you really don't need it with all the other filler options up there. I slowly enjoyed my food while my husband got his moneys worth at the buffet. Lots of hungry people this visit. Hubby did a different flavor each time he went up there. He mixes it up as much as he can. If you think you will eat your fill through the line its not a bad deal. The options outside the buffet are limited. GF and allergy friendly.

Char Kueh Teow This dish stood out immediately which has a smoky wok hei flavor (the "breath of the wok") coated the flat rice noodles, giving them that deep caramelized edge that's hard to find outside of Malaysia. The prawns were plump and juicy, and the mix of soy, garlic, and chili gave just the right balance of savory and spicy. Fresh cucumbers and pickled vegetables on the side added a refreshing crunch, making each bite balanced and addictive. Laksa Rich, creamy, and fragrant, the laksa broth was a highlight. The curry coconut base carried layers of spice without being overwhelming, and every sip warmed you from the inside out. The noodles were cooked just right, with toppings that tied it together from seafood to herbs. It's the kind of bowl that makes you pause between spoonfuls just to savor the aroma. Satay The chicken satay had a lovely turmeric and lemongrass marinade, grilled to a slight char that locked in the smoky flavor. Tender on the inside with crispy edges, it paired perfectly with the bold, nutty, and slightly spicy peanut dipping sauce. The cucumber slices on the side helped cut through the richness, just like you'd get back at a hawker stall in Malaysia. Overall Hawker Kitchen is a gem for anyone looking for authentic Malaysian comfort food in Des Moines. Portions are generous, flavors are bold and true to their roots, and the variety on the menu makes it worth repeat visits. If you're new to Malaysian cuisine, start with the satay and char kueh teow; if you're a fan already, the laksa will feel like home.
