I ordered through Doordash, I liked their Mango Delight Chicken dish. Huge portion & delicious. I also tried their Fried Spring rolls, Chicken Satay, Grilled Beef Teriyaki, Honey Glazed BBQ Pork and Massaman Pork Curry- they were all good, nothing special just good. De Rice is one of my favorite lunch spots. In warmer weather, there is a small patio area outside. There is plenty of seating inside, and the restaurant is very clean with nice restrooms. The staff is also very attentive and service is quick. I've appreciated their Covid procedures over the last several months as well. Lunches come with a small cup of soup and little egg roll. The flavor of soup tends to vary. I've had the pumpkin curry and avocado curry on multiple visits and it is always very flavorful and some of my favorites. This is a full sit-down experience with booths or tables. The booths are very wide and would comfortably sit six. They have a nice patio outside and a full bar. The waitstaff was friendly and hardworking, we enjoyed talking to them but they didn't linger too much. The prices were very fair, especially considering the portion sizes - we usually get two meals out of an entree. Overall, De Rice is a great dining option for a date, families or people looking for a comfortable meal. I am shocked at how poor the service was. When we were seated we weren't asked if we wanted anything to drink. After talking a while to come back and take our order the server completely neglected to take one of our orders assuming that we were done. When ordering the menu was apparently incorrect and wasn't synced with the handheld the server used to take our order leading to confusion. The food all came out at very separate times and one meal had to be sent back due to how over cooked it was. We were not asked how the food was, we were never offered refills, and when we paid cash our change was incorrect and only in small bills. Excellent experience at De Rice! The staff are warm and helpful, the remodeling has been done beautifully and the food will not disappoint! We began with Spider Roll Sushi, which was delicious! Followed by house salad with ginger dressing, shrimp wonton soup and seafood basil fried rice. Each and every dish was so fresh and full of taste! I highly recommend a visit. This is my favorite restaurant in Johnston! They have an extensive drink, appetizer, and entree menu that consists of a variety of Asian cuisines! The inside vibe is cool and they have a great outdoor patio! This particular time, we had the pork pot stickers that were perfectly cooked with great flavor. For my main, I had the pineapple delight (with chicken and no mushrooms) and this is my go-to whenever I go. It has so much flavor and I highly recommend it! You can choose your best level with most of their dinner options (I think 0-6) and I usually get a 2...just a hint of spice which is perfect for me. This particular time we went, we sat in a booth in the main dining area and I was not impressed with the service we received. The server was very soft spoken and when taking our order, we each had to repeat ourselves so she could take everything down. She was not attentive at all and after she brought us our first round of drinks and appetizer, she didn't come back to take our dinner order for 40 minutes! Honestly this place is a pleasant surprise. They may not be the most authentic style Asian restaurant, but they know how to keep the authenticity of each dish with the right flavors for different cuisines. If you check out the menu the first thing you will notice is the giant selections of variety of different Asian cuisines. That gave me a concern to think, "oh no. Bunch of mix of American food pretending to be Asian cuisine.." Sure, like I mentioned, they are not the best authentic Asian foods but they use right ingredients and right flavors to represent each culture of different cuisines. I rated 5 stars because I find that rarity in Iowa. This place is a hidden gem. I recommend basically all the rice dishes there. Kimchi fried rice, and curries, and soup. Well this place was delicious and the menu was ginormous! If you can't find anything to eat you must not be hungry! They have Asian fare and sushi! The staff were very knowledgeable and attentive. We were able to eat on their large patio. So with COVID it provides a greater sense of safety. They also have the yummy rolled fortune cookie that tastes a little like coconut, if you know what I mean. It comes in slice from level 2 (mild) to 6 (spicy), but the level 2 was too mild. The curry puffs that I ordered as an appetizer came out maybe 10 minutes after my entree and weren't holding their shape. They flaked and spilled out their filling when I tried to pick them up. I was greeted promptly when dining for lunch. I've eaten here twice in the past. The decor is pleasant and clean. The previous two lunches included soup and a very small egg roll. That is now a $3 option. I ordered the chicken fried rice. It was a large portion with a lot of white chicken meat. The meal was good. The appetizers were not worth the $3 in my opinion. We went on New Years Eve for lunch. The waitress was polite and helpful. We were seated right away, and after ordering, our food was out within 5 minutes. The food was very good! Sushi was fresh, I had the tempura shrimp roll and California roll Pad See ew was delicious it had tons of fresh vegetables and meat and the noodles were firm and not over cooked and well seasoned. The curry puffs were ridiculously good as well as the pot stickers. My server server Akaya was on point and personable and had everything quickly. The ambiance was nice and the fact that they had sanitizer bottles readily available made me happy. I am from the San Francisco Bay area where the Asian food is high-quality and authentic. I was really surprised at how diverse this menu was with really high-quality food and it matched authentic standards. I went across the menu and tried Pad Thai, a sushi roll, the hot and sour soup, the egg drop soup, the chicken basil, and it all exceeded my expectations. They have a diverse drink menu as well. They had local beers on tap, excellent sake, a good wine selection, and very knowledgeable staff. Our server Lauren was exceptionally good and knowledgeable of the drink and menu options and very kind and helpful. We placed an order for pick up. 1. Yellow Curry with Cucumber Salad - One of the best I've ever had. The right amount of onion and potato and a ton of chicken. Now the Cucumber salad..... they only give you one table spoon of this. Not sure why. Didn't try that. 2. Spice 4 - Lo Mein - Also good and filling. Taste no spice on this. 3. California rolls - different but good. 4. Spice 6 - General Tao Chicken - my son was not overly impressed but said it was up to par. Not spicy at all. 5. Pork Pot Sticker (6) deep fried - served with homemade dumpling sauce. BOMB.COM So tasty, filling and addicting! Our order was ready when we arrived and still warm when we got home. Is there a soy sauce shortage? There was ZERO flavor in our dish. Really wanted to love this place, but the main course of noodles were dry and literally tasted like nothing. Spice was nonexistent. We found it improved slightly by adding our own PF Changs sauce...but it wasn't what we were going for. That said, the crab Rangoon and sticky rice/mango were the best we've had in town.
