This is the sequel we've all been waiting for. I'm SO thrilled to have a second outpost for these amazing treats that defy the conventional definition of gluten-free, vegan, and soy-free. These desserts need no labels because they are simply delicious, and purely decadent. You've got cookies, cupcakes, pastries, and all sorts of fun sundries with a punk rock vibe. For you deal seekers, did you know that they sell cut pieces of their Rebel Swrrrl AKA chocolate swiss roll for a bargain? You get all the best bits with the crisp ganache, tender chocolate cake, and whipped buttercream filing in a cup, perfect to grab and go. If you know me, I'm hella picky about my desserts, and especially cake. This stuff is flat out amazing, no labels required.

Had been meaning to try Uchiko for a while and finally made it in for a nicer sushi dinner. I've…read morebeen to enough "fancy sushi" places where it feels like you're paying more for the lighting than the food, but this one actually lived up to the reputation. Atmosphere: Sleek, dim, and a little upscale, but not in a stiff way. It still feels very Austin--nice enough for a date night or celebration, but relaxed enough that you don't feel like you need to whisper the whole meal. My personal favorite is the sushi bar since you can interact with the actual server. Food: Really strong across the board. Uchiko does that modern Japanese thing where the dishes are small, clean, and layered without feeling like they're trying too hard. The menu changes, so every visit feels a little different. The big thing I appreciated is that every bite felt intentional. Nothing was just "fish on rice." The hama chili is one of those dishes people bring up for a reason, its the one thing I can recommend for first timers. My personal favorite thing though is their "Somakase" (combination of server and omakase), where you just let the server know your budget options and they'll customize suggestions. This is one of those places where there's no wrong choices per se but that depends on what you are in the mood for, such as something more fishy or something more unique. Service: Very polished, but not robotic. Again to harp on the "Somakase" experience, it's nice to be able to interact with your server and see how things are made and based on what you're looking for. All times I've gone service has been top notch with that high quality of catering to the guests needs. Wrap-up: Uchiko is expensive, but it feels like one of those meals where the price makes sense once you're actually eating it. Great service, thoughtful dishes, and enough creativity to make the night feel special without getting weird. Easy 5 stars for me and definitely one of the better upscale sushi experiences in Austin.

Upon recommendation from a local--who said Uchiko has the best sushi in Texas, we made a 4pm reservation for the Happy Hour Omakase. It did not disappoint. The decor was interesting and a little eclectic, but also classy and inviting and warm. The staff were friendly and eager to serve. The food was excellent: all of it. But it's worth noting that some of the items were my favorites ever. Here are the things I loved the best: 1) The dirtiest martini was just so good. I don't see it on the online menu, but I'm pretty sure that's what it was called. I don't even remember what was in it other than extra olive brine, but I was surprised every time I took a sip by a flavor complexity that was unexpected. 2) The handroll, which I believe had maguro, and I know had asian pear and basil. The explosion of flavor was insane. This may be my favorite thing ever. 3) The french fries that were served with the blackened Wagyu steak. The Wagyu steak was truly excellent. The french fries, which I believe were fried in beef tallow and well seasoned and crispy, were the best I've ever eaten--by far the best I've ever eaten. I didn't think I could like french fries this much. This was a wonderful first experience of omakase and I'm so glad we splurged!

But by the time my friend arrived about 1:10 the line had disappeared and the crowd was quickly thinning out. I had the farmhouse club and my friend went with a salad (I forget which one). My sandwich was absolutely delicious and I cleaned it up. His salad was enormous and he couldn't finish it. He had enough leftover to take home for another meal. Neither came with a side but they are available for purchase. The restaurant is bright and cheerful inside with plenty of seating. And the staff are very friendly and eager to assist throughout the meal. The only downside is their prices being a little high for the type of setting so one star off. I will probably return anyway for the delicious sandwich. But I wish it came with chips!

I've been for both lunch and dinner, and lunch is clearly the peak time, which makes sense given the sandwich, salad, and soup menu. It feels built for the midday lunch crowd. The kitchen runs very efficiently, the line moves quickly, and online ordering is very easy. It's counter service, but I've taken meals to go a few times and everything traveled well. As of February 2026, it still has that brand new restaurant feel. The interior is bright, clean, and modern, and there's a ton of outdoor seating. However, you are just off 38th Street and across from the Seton medical complex, so al fresco dining may not be the quietest experience depending on traffic and time of day. Overall, a great addition to the area for lunch (or dinner).

Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING we ordered was fresh, delicious, light, yet filling. I got the Social Butterfly drink which had butterfly pea powder in it to make it purple. It was as delicious as it was pretty. All the cocktails sounded amazing, I can't wait to go back and try them all. For starters we got the Guacamole, Brussel Sprouts and Crispy Macha Potatoes. Each of these were executed to perfection. The guacamole was fresh, topped with pomegranate seeds and well seasoned. The chips that came with it were light, crispy and it was gone in a flash! The Brussel Sprouts were cooked perfectly...tender and flavorful...not greasy...literally the best I've ever had. The Crispy Macha potatoes were next level!!! I have no idea how they make them, but they were SOOOOOO GOOD!!! I got the Waygu Sirloin as my main course and my friends got the Coconut Curry Squash. I enjoyed my steak and my friends liked their dish as well. We also shared the Roasted Beet Salad, which was fresh and tasty. Overall, can't wait to go back! 10 out of 10!!!

The menu is pretty extensive too, so it was easy for everyone to find something they were excited about. I had the Tum Tad salad, which was super fresh and flavorful with a nice balance of tangy and savory. For dessert, the mango sticky rice was a standout. It was made with a black rice that actually looked kind of blue, which made it really visually fun. Not totally sure if there was some ube mixed in or just the natural color, but either way it was delicious and a little different from the usual version.

The restaurant itself has a lot of indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a bar. It seems like a nice place to have a meal. As for the food, we ordered: Pad thai with chicken, mild spice - unfortunately this was a bit dry for me, though the taste was good. Pad see ew with chicken - I liked their version and would probably get it again. Pad woon sen with pork - typically my favorite noodle dish and I think they did a good job. Garden roll - good but not as packed as others I've had, and at a higher price point. Pineapple fried rice with pork - I liked this but was a bit on the oily side. Tom kha soup - I thought this was very good and had a decent amount of chicken and mushrooms Overall I liked everything but some items I felt I had better versions of elsewhere. It's also on the pricier side. Still, if in central Austin I think it's a solid choice for Thai food.
