An acquaintance of mine has raved about Zorba for over a year, saying we just HAVE to visit. Well, last night, my husband and in laws all finally stopped in! It was a little after 8, so there was only maybe 2 other tables being occupied. We sat in a large booth at the front, where there was plenty of room for the 5 of us. A server quickly came to deliver menus and take drink orders. After looking over the menu for a while, we finally decided to get the hummus and tabouleh app to share at the table, and it was delivered promptly, along with plenty of pita for dipping. The hummus was a little thinner than I'm used to but tasty, the tabouleh was a delight, but, oh my gosh, the pita was delicious. Every time it was brought to our table, it was warm, impossibly fluffy, and oh so delicious. I don't eat a lot of bready items usually, but I ate at least 2 whole pita last night, maybe even 2.5. For our entrees, my father in law got the gyro platter, mother in law & husband got the Zorba chicken, and my brother in law and I got the veggie plates (you get to pick 5 veggie items for a plate, so we both had double falafel and lentil soup, I had more tabouleh & a dolma, while he had tzatziki & spanakopita). Our salads came out pretty swiftly and had a very tasty vegan dressing on top. I'd asked for no feta, but the rest of the table had feta, and because they use really finely crumbled feta here, it all clumped together and several people got whole mouthfuls of feta. Entrees weren't far behind, and everyone was very pleased. My husband was shocked at how deliciously grilled and charred his chicken was while still being very tender (mom in law agreed). My father in law doesn't say much, but he ate his whole gyro plate and sopped up the sauce! The lentil soup was, by far, the star of our veggie plates, we both agreed, and my husband and mom in law who tasted it also agreed. It is phenomenal, and I joked with the server that I needed a gallon of it to go. My dolma was tasty but came slathered in tzatziki, which I wiped off (not mentioned on the menu, and I'd clearly been ordering vegan the rest of the meal, so I wish something would've been said about it). Bro in law enjoyed his spanakopita, too. The HUGE letdown here is their falafel. They are...unpleasant and mushy. I noticed on the menu they add potato to their mix, but it still said it contained chickpea. I honestly couldn't taste or feel the telltale sort of crunchiness one gets with actual chickpea falafel at any point when eating mine, that's how much potato they use. Bro in law agreed, they were sort of gross and we wouldn't order them again.
Overall, this place is really great, at least as a sit down table service dinner spot (I understand it may be sort of cafeteria style during lunch?). The falafel's are major letdown, especially since it's their only vegan 'protein', but everything else we had really makes up for it. I do hope they reconsider their falafel recipe, though. Oh! And our server! She was truly amazing and very attentive! read more
