I had a taste for crawfish, and my daughter told me about a new spot that just opened called Surfing crab, so of course I had to go check it out. I ordered a combo that came with crawfish, snow crab, and shrimp, plus the usual sides: sausage, potato, and corn. Let's start with the sausage because baby... that sausage was delicious. So good that I actually went back and ordered more. No shame. The crab was very good, not overcooked at all, and the shrimp were cooked perfectly too. The shells came off easily, which is always a good sign. The corn was sweet and flavorful, and everything was covered in their sauce. I ordered it medium with all the seasonings, and the flavor was definitely there. Now... everyone who knows me knows I'm a crawfish girl, so I saved those for last. First bite and I immediately noticed something was off. They were dry, and I could tell right away they were frozen. I ate a few more just to confirm (because sometimes you gotta give it another chance). After that, I actually called and asked if the crawfish were frozen or live, and the lady on the phone confirmed they were frozen. Now with it being crawfish season, I'm honestly not understanding why they're serving frozen crawfish. I feel like there should be a sign letting people know or at least letting customers know if they're sold out of live crawfish. Crawfish lovers can definitely tell the difference. That part was very disappointing. That being said, the rest of the food was good, and like I mentioned earlier, the sausage was so good I had to go back for more. If you're going specifically for crawfish, I would say call ahead and ask if they have live crawfish because the flavor and texture are way better. If the crawfish had been live instead of frozen, this review would easily be rated higher. I'll probably give them another try because the rest of the food was solid... but those crawfish just weren't it.

Somebody finally listened to me! It's not easy finding good seafood with reasonably priced combos and seasoned well! Surfing Crab hit all my wants. The service was really good too. The server was good about checking in. I ordered the round rock special. I got the garlic butter + old bay seasoning mild with extra seasoning on the side for dipping. Everything was juicy and good. I didn't want a sausage and I got extra corn instead. My food was delicious in every bite and was not over cooked. I got the mild so it was seasoned well but not overpowering with spice. I highly recommend mild if you aren't into spicy food. I also ordered a mimosa for $3 and it was good. The restaurant was very spacious and didn't have a as strong seafood smell. I didn't leave smelling fishy!! I will definitely be back!

NOOM NOOM NOOM New spot for seafood in Round Rock. Bring on the bibs and gloves, but hold the side of butter because the Surfing Special sauce is amazing!! The wait time to be seated was only 20minutes even with a full house. Our waitress was so friendly and gave us recommendations for the sauce. Other staff stopped by our table as well to check if there was anything we needed. My husband could have rolled me out of the restaurant I was so stuffed.

I stumbled upon Surfing Crab yesterday and am so happy that I did! They're a great seafood boil option with fried seafood items and a full bar. Visiting during their lunch hours seemed to be the best most cost effective because you can create a 2 item boil for $17.99. Dinner boils start at about $31-32. They have daily drink specials that feature beers, cocktails like the Hurricane and margaritas. During my visit, I opted for a fried shrimp basket w/ fries ($11 on lunch menu) and a 2 item boil (shrimp and calamari). You're able to customize your spice level, they had about 5-6 different seasoning options and each boil comes with sausage, potatoes and corn. And yes, crawfish was on the menu; however, keep in mind that crawfish season doesn't start until February! If they're serving them outside of February-May, I'd be suspicious. Everything was seasoned great and they have some of the best fries I've ever had! I will definitely be returning to have another boil!

This is a great option for crab and seafood! We have been in twice since it opened and have had great service with Richard and Davy in the bar area. Front hostess area is friendly as well and the manager was helpful our first time ordering on the best bang for our buck! For crab and shrimp, this place is more affordable than other "crab boil" places and the flavor and spice is much more appealing (IMO). The edamame was a great addition our last visit as were the sweet potato fries and rice!! Perfectly sticky rice !! Look forward to the next time for sure !

Can I just say- I had heard this place was good - it was AMAZING. I ordered a pound of crab legs and clams with double corn and had the Surfing Special Seasoning mild and it was the best seasoning I think I've ever tried. We also ordered calamari and garlic bread. Both great additions. The servers were great! On top of filling out drinks. The vibe is very casual. I have been dying to go back - who wants to join me!!!

Thursday, Soft opening day finally! I have been waiting for this day! Party of 2 around 7:00 p.m. and we were greeted and seated immediately. We went with the understanding that the crew would be figuring everything out since this was the first day and we were pleasantly surprised at how well everything ran so smoothly. The food came out quick and our server was attentive. The manager even came around to talk with us. I enjoyed the hush puppies, I love hush puppies and anytime they're on the menu I get them. I also ordered the house salad with shrimp. The salad was fresh and the grilled shrimp was tasty. My boyfriend ordered the #2 combo boil with the Cajun seasoning. It was very good and the flavor was spot on. Next time I told him to get the everything seasoning. I'm really happy that this location is open in Round Rock and I look forward to visiting often! Especially when it's live crawfish time

This is a chain restaurant with many locations. The one in Round Rock, on the east side of I-35 north of 45, has been open for several weeks. Based on reviews here and elsewhere, we and another couple decided to try Surfing Crab on a recent weeknight. We were less than impressed. The menu is large, but the choices are largely limited to greasy fried food or a seafood boil. For dinner, you can get a large pile of boiled items to share or choose half or full pounds of shrimp, clams, mussels, etc. There's a bucket and a roll of cheap brown paper towels (the kind you get in a service station restroom) on every table. You'll get a paper plate (maybe more than one if you get an appetizer) and a fork. No other utensils, napkins, or wipes were offered at any time. We ordered 2 appetizers to share, both fried. Both came out quickly with tasty dips. Then we ordered our dinners. Order taking seemed to go well. Our group had a flounder sandwich, a couple of mixed baskets, and a flounder basket. I would have considered a boil had there been an option on the dinner menu for a mix other than in half pound increments. It looked like that was an option at lunch. Everything fried came atop Cajun fries, which were crisp. tasty, and plentiful. Unfortunately, the person who delivered the meals (not the same person who took our orders) was unable to identify what was in each basket, other than the sandwich. That should give you an idea that all of the fried foods were rather similar in appearance. Everyone at our table agreed that the fried foods were way too greasy, and that we would not consider ordering these again. The seafood under the breading definitely seemed fresh, so it was a shame to have it ruined with a thick and greasy breading. The combination of crummy (non-absorbent) paper towels, paper plates, and greasy food, particularly given the prices, is just not our thing at dinner. Hence the rating. On the plus side, the containers they use for leftovers are among the best I've had at any restaurant. .

Round rock special with surfing special seasoning

Me and a friend came here for dinner this weekend and had such a good experience! We had been craving a seafood boil and after seeing some positive reviews, decided to try this place out. We ended up splitting the round rock special with the surfing special seasoning. We added extra potatoes which I think made this a lot more filling but overall it was a perfect size for the two of us to share. The seafood had great flavor and seemed like good quality. We also got some Cajun fries to share and honestly I would skip on those next time. The fries were not tossed in the seasoning so it was super uneven and the ranch that they use here tasted like bottled hidden valley (not good). They did have good drink prices and happy hour specials. Our server was great and the restaurant itself was very nice and had tons of seating! Overall I would definitely recommend!!

Delightful seafood boil spot that I definitely want to revisit! We were pleasantly surprised by this spot, having tried a few different seafood boils and none really hitting the spot the way this one did. We chose to give it a try since we were looking for food in the area. Walking in, you're immediately hit with an under-the-sea type ambiance filled with fun decor and the comfiest seating I've ever experienced. Every table is already covered with paper that has their very own cute crab logo, the same logo that can be seen on our water cups. I got their drink of the day which was a Bahama Mama for only $6 - a refreshing deal of a cocktail! We ordered their calamari which was nice and crispy, and a boil to share. The boil blew us away with its flavor and comes with several potato and corn much to our delight. Everything was well cooked and swimming in the sauce which made a nice pool in their gigantic metal bowl. The clams were a bit salty so next time we might opt to just do double shrimp. The service was extremely friendly and very quick to check in and fulfill requests. The server who brought our boil asked if we wanted him to open up the bag for us to which we said you're the expert! It was a nice little demo for us. They had forgotten to include the sausage we ordered for our boil so we asked for some and they were able to bring it out in only a minute or two.

First time to location and chain. Was actually better than I expected for a chain. The food was perfectly boiled. The spice was good, kind of regret not going spicier despite getting a medium, but the Cajun flavor was good. The service was great. Arrived at 930 and left around 1020. It was a bit busy when we arrived but everything was done swiftly and perfectly. We asked for no sausage and they provided more corn instead which was fantastic. Definitely a good place for boil to go. The ambiance was very hustle and bustle but relaxed at the same time. If I'm ever up in round rock again I will definitely go to this location again.

We were running errands in Round Rock today and decided to try the surfing crab. I doubt we will ever go back. I got the fried calamari and I substituted coleslaw for the Cajun fries. The calamari had zero taste and the coleslaw with some of the worst I've ever had. They also gave me the Cajun fries so I did like the ones that didn't have all the seasoning on them. We also got the half-and-half special with Freid shrimp and fried oysters. The oysters and the shrimp were good and the sweet potato fries we substituted for we're also very good. I'm not sure how long they have been open but our waitress was very unsure of several things and she was training someone! I'm not sure what kind of sauces they brought me with my calamari but I ended up getting some cocktail sauce and tartar sauce and those were much better. There were also some Chinese dishes on the menu and I've noticed some so-called seafood places have started doing this. I prefer the old seafood places that serve nothing but seafood! It was not crowded at all during lunchtime and I guess that should've been our clue.

    The hook special

My group of four people came here around 4:45 pm on a Saturday to celebrate a birthday. The place had just started to get busy, but we were seated quickly. Our server, Hailey, was very sweet and quick to take our order. She let us store our cake and Ice cream in the fridge which we were thankful for since some restaurants don't allow that. The alcohol drinks did take long to come out, but they were delicious! We got the appetizer sampler. The spring rolls, hush puppies, and mozzarella sticks were so good. I wish I could say the same about the calamari and fried shrimp. The calamari had an odd rubbery texture and the shrimp was chewy. We ordered the hook special with the surfers seasoning special and split it between three people and that was way more than enough for each of us. We got two crab clusters each and a whole lot of shrimp, sausage, and veggies! The kids hamburger was so delicious too way better than expected!!

The Bichota cocktail was a standout--sweet, refreshing, and with just enough of a kick to keep you sipping slowly. The Old Fashioned was equally impressive: sweet yet balanced, served in a stylish glass with a unique holder that made the experience feel elevated. For food, the chicharrón with fried yuca and tostones was perfection. The pork was fried to a crisp golden shell without being greasy, and seasoned just right--not too salty, but enough to make every bite crave-worthy. The yuca and tostones were cut to the perfect thickness for even cooking, with a satisfying crunch outside and tender inside, especially when dipped into their garlicky sauce. The cheese sticks are an absolute must-have--crispy outside, oozy inside, and dangerously addictive. And the arepas? Exceptionally good--stuffed with beans, cheese, beef, and sweet plantains for that perfect salty-sweet balance. Every plate showed attention to texture, seasoning, and presentation. Price Considering the quality of ingredients, creative plating, and generous portions, the prices felt fair for a fusion dining experience. The cocktails were crafted with care and worth every penny. Appetizers could easily be shared, making it easy to get variety without breaking the bank. Environment We sat outside and it was amazing for groups, dates, and inside it is super cool. The décor is not fancy but really fun Austin style. There is a section bar where they play music which I want to try. Service The service was cool and amicable. It looks the server was new but he did give recommendations. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and offered great pairing suggestions. Overall: If you're looking for a place where Latin flavors meet creative execution, this spot is worth the visit. I am so torn on this place. My friends and I were looking for a cute spot for a moms night out…read more(just 3 of us). We decided to make a reservation at Odds Bar and give it a try. Arrived right on time and the parking lot was PACKED, though the restaurant appeared nearly empty except for a loud networking event going on in a devoted side room open to the main area. No one at the desk to greet us, just a sign to seat ourselves, so we did. Guess reservations don't really matter? It was quite a while before anyone approached us, but when a server finally came he was very nice and helpful. We ordered drinks and entrees. It took an ABSURD amount of time before the drinks came out...maybe because of the event? Not sure. The bar and restaurant seemed nearly empty otherwise and the bartender didn't look busy or rushed at all. Luckily we had intended to make a night of it, so we were able to wait. It was hard to hear each other talk, though, due to the networking event. When the drinks finally came, mine was AMAZING. Like, one of the best drinks I've had in Austin, and maybe one of the best of my life? Weeks later I'm still thinking about it. I got the Going Bananas and it was simple perfection. The food also took a while to come out, but at least we had drinks to tide us over. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and was disappointed. The toppings were spare and didn't offer much to elevate the dish, and the chicken itself, while tasty, was very dry in parts, to the extent where I was dipping it in ketchup to get it to go down easy. The bun and fries were good. Our server seemed to have evaporated into thin air after delivering food, so we had no water refills and had to vye for attention to pay the check. Eventually the bartender came and helped us pay, and seemed terse and annoyed when we asked to split our check. (Three middle-aged women...seems more likely a split than combined?) All in all, we were there about 3 hours total, mostly because service took so long. Such a bizarre experience. I would NOT come here if you are on any kind of timeline. The only way I'll come back is to sit at the bar and have drinks only.

As for the salmon, it wasn't overly seasoned and was incredibly flaky. It was a good size as well. For breakfast, The Breakfast Plate's eggs were cooked perfectly with appropriately cooked bacon. I enjoyed the potatoes that accompanied it as well. The Buttermilk Pancakes meal was a failure though. The pancakes were gooey inside. My server, Amy, offered to have them remade, but I declined the offer. So I accepted a parfait, which was easily one of the best I've had in Austin. The granola with the berries were perfectly balanced, and the granola wasn't super chunky. Amy was 100% invested in my meal satisfaction. The dining room is quite pretty with lovely set tables. Every time I ate, I felt a tad underdressed! But they don't care if you're comfortably casual, and i saw a family with small children looking very relaxed and vacationy and they were welcome.

This restaurant is a unique find in Austin!…read more When I was looking for a new brunch spot to try with my boyfriend, we saw that Uptown was an option online, though we had never heard of it before. That's because we later realized that it was actually the Cambria Hotel's in-building restaurant. We also realized we didn't need reservations, since we and one other family were the only ones dining in for Sunday brunch. The woman who attended to us was very friendly and accommodating. I was able to get a flavorful cappuccino and eggs benedict made vegetarian friendly. The Hollandaise sauce was swapped out for queso, which was a fun twist! All-in-all, a great brunch was had by all. The food was not the best we'd ever had in regards to other brunch places, but knowing that crowds are not a problem here makes this a great back-up spot if the other brunch places in town are backed up!

Pretty obsessed with wings right now. We've been making the rounds since Pluckers is an out for us…read morenow without hallelujah. My girls are begging for anchor wings nightly, the 9yo loves their retrial and the 7yo loves the jerk, I personally love the honey siracha and babe alert ranch. Now the honey siracha, it's listed as like the one of the hottest, no sir it's barely spicy at all, I still love it but just saying. Wait staff is always awesome, friendly and super helpful. Only complaint is we saw they have .99c wings on Tuesdays, it says limit 10, which was perfect for the girls and I since we can't eat more than 6. The waiter said it's a misprint and supposed to say 10 minimum. That was frustrating and sad because we would go every Tuesday if we could order less, 10 is way too much for all 3 of us and all 3 like different flavors so sharing won't work either. Love the hand cleaning station, although it looks like it could use a cleaning itself lol. But 5 stars because yesssss, the food and the service are so good. Wait one more complaint, sorry! The skillet cookie, way too expensive for what you get AND the skillet is tiny it's impossible to eat without getting burned. Knowing it was bringing hot and being careful all 3 of us still left with burns.

Now, I'm sure it's great to have an air conditioned space for us dog people in the summer months, but it's a small space with bad acoustics that ultimately made our furbaby fairly anxious. Frankly, the food wasn't worth the wait and that hurt my heart a little since I spent a great deal of my formative years roaming around upstate NY eating wings modeled after the original Anchor Bar's offerings in Buffalo.
