The shrimp was great plum and juicy. I felt like the batter was a little too thick and the batter didn't have any flavor in it. The flounder was good, but the fish was dry. I ordered it medium with all the seasonings, and the flavor was definitely there. Now... everyone who knows me knows I'm a crawfish girl, so I saved those for last. After that, I actually called and asked if the crawfish were frozen or live, and the lady on the phone confirmed they were frozen. I have tried more of these seafood boil places than I can count and all over Austin also. The spice is perfect, the flavor is perfect, and the pricing is very reasonable but the flavor is what will bring me back over and over again. My boil had a lobster tail, shrimp, crab legs, potato, corn, and sausage; the to go comes with gloves and a bib so that the yummy juices don't get you dirty. The first time I went was with my wife and we ate in restaurant and we each got a $6 hurricane and wow was that delicious and powerful, it was a nice experience to sit and drink while watching the World Cup on their many different TVs. We interacted with a worker named Jesse who wore a cowboy hat, super friendly and welcoming. A guy like that will make any restaurant successful. If I could eat in restaurant that would be preferred but with three kids to go is just easier and the taste ordering to go didn't suffer at all. They have daily drink specials that feature beers, cocktails like the Hurricane and margaritas. During my visit, I opted for a fried shrimp basket w/ fries ($11 on lunch menu) and a 2 item boil (shrimp and calamari). You're able to customize your spice level, they had about 5-6 different seasoning options and each boil comes with sausage, potatoes and corn. And yes, crawfish was on the menu; however, keep in mind that crawfish season doesn't start until February! If they're serving them outside of February-May, I'd be suspicious. This is a chain restaurant with many locations. The one in Round Rock, on the east side of I-35 north of 45, has been open for several weeks. Based on reviews here and elsewhere, we and another couple decided to try Surfing Crab on a recent weeknight. We were less than impressed. The menu is large, but the choices are largely limited to greasy fried food or a seafood boil. For dinner, you can get a large pile of boiled items to share or choose half or full pounds of shrimp, clams, mussels, etc. There's a bucket and a roll of cheap brown paper towels (the kind you get in a service station restroom) on every table. You'll get a paper plate (maybe more than one if you get an appetizer) and a fork. No other utensils, napkins, or wipes were offered at any time. We ordered 2 appetizers to share, both fried. Both came out quickly with tasty dips. Then we ordered our dinners. Order taking seemed to go well. Our group had a flounder sandwich, a couple of mixed baskets, and a flounder basket. I would have considered a boil had there been an option on the dinner menu for a mix other than in half pound increments. It looked like that was an option at lunch. Everything fried came atop Cajun fries, which were crisp. tasty, and plentiful. Unfortunately, the person who delivered the meals (not the same person who took our orders) was unable to identify what was in each basket, other than the sandwich. That should give you an idea that all of the fried foods were rather similar in appearance. Everyone at our table agreed that the fried foods were way too greasy, and that we would not consider ordering these again. The seafood under the breading definitely seemed fresh, so it was a shame to have it ruined with a thick and greasy breading. The combination of crummy (non-absorbent) paper towels, paper plates, and greasy food, particularly given the prices, is just not our thing at dinner. Hence the rating. We were pleasantly surprised by this spot, having tried a few different seafood boils and none really hitting the spot the way this one did. The calamari had zero taste and the coleslaw with some of the worst I've ever had. They also gave me the Cajun fries so I did like the ones that didn't have all the seasoning on them. We also got the half-and-half special with Freid shrimp and fried oysters. The oysters and the shrimp were good and the sweet potato fries we substituted for we're also very good. I'm not sure how long they have been open but our waitress was very unsure of several things and she was training someone! I'm not sure what kind of sauces they brought me with my calamari but I ended up getting some cocktail sauce and tartar sauce and those were much better. This is the worst place I have ever seen to work. Employees work more than 13 hours a day for less than $100. On top of that, if the restaurant is busy and a table leaves without paying, the servers are forced to pay for it out of their own pocket. That is the customer's responsibility, and it should also be the responsibility of management to make sure no one leaves the restaurant without paying. When a server is extremely busy, it is impossible to watch 20 tables at the same time. Another serious issue is that the restaurant requires servers to pay for the order books used to take orders. The restaurant provides these books, but servers are still required to buy them in order to use them, even though they are only being used to take orders for the restaurant itself. In other words, you are required to pay for the basic tools needed to do your job. Another negative aspect is that employees are not provided any kind of meal. If you want to eat anything from the restaurant, no matter how cheap it is, you still have to pay for it. Most restaurants today at least give their employees one free meal during their shift, but this restaurant does not even offer that. Employees work long hours without being given food, and if they see you eating, you risk being fired. You work exhausting hours without stopping, and at the end of the day you make less than $100. In summary, do not work here. This is the worst place I have seen to work, with some of the lowest pay among seafood restaurants in all of Texas. Stay away from places like this. read more

The food was excellent. I had a seafood boil for one that included lobster, shrimp, snow crab, potatoes, and corn. The portions were generous and the food was very tasteful. The price was $33.00 at dinner time, but they do have lunch time boils for $17.50. The service could have been a little better in that we ended up having to request silverware after the food reached our table and the crab cracker instrument had to also be asked for after that. the food is not worth the money they are asking you for. You can tell the eggrolls, and the fried stuff was all from a bag not freshly made. We got crawfish and my handsome notice some heads with no tails and some straight tails so no hood He tried explaining to the manager they call you a liar she was like there no way. Tried this place Saturday, February 7, 2026. My honey was in the mood for fried shrimp and he found this new place to try in Round Rock. Did not have great experience and will not return. I choose the mixed basket and got the Flounder and Catfish so I could try both. The catfish was more like a catfish nugget but tasted good (not great) and the flounder was absolutely disgusting. I'm pretty sure the flounder is reason why I still have stomache ache. The fries are also disgusting. Service was horrible, our waitress had 4 tables to take care of so simple requests should not be a problem - WRONG. Asked for utensils, she never brought them, asked for some lemon, never got that either. She was suppose to bring sample of the coleslaw so we could try before ordering and that never happended. Did not bring any refills or come around to check on us until it was check time. Well my honey was not letting the horrible service go - he called the waitress out on her poor service and she started to get defensive and then said that she needed to work on herself regarding constructive critisism, this was her first excuse., She then went on to say that she was VERY busy, well my honey called her out again and said he just watched her and about 5 or 6 other waiters just hanging around talking, so then she switched her excuse to she was ADHD and forgets things. Not once did the manager come over to talk to us about the situation. I'm sure the waitress did not mention to her manager that we were not happy with the service we received. The waitress also told us that the manager was Korean and she was the only person who could communicate with the kitchen staff because they did not speak english. If I was the manager, I would be very concerned with this waitress and her lack of service and maturity. I'm available to discuss this over the phone with management. read more
