Somebody finally listened to me! It's not easy finding good seafood with reasonably priced combos and seasoned well! Surfing Crab hit all my wants. The service was really good too. The server was good about checking in. I ordered the round rock special. I got the garlic butter + old bay seasoning mild with extra seasoning on the side for dipping. Everything was juicy and good. I didn't want a sausage and I got extra corn instead. My food was delicious in every bite and was not over cooked. I got the mild so it was seasoned well but not overpowering with spice. I highly recommend mild if you aren't into spicy food. I also ordered a mimosa for $3 and it was good. The restaurant was very spacious and didn't have a as strong seafood smell. I didn't leave smelling fishy!! I will definitely be back!
NOOM NOOM NOOM New spot for seafood in Round Rock. Bring on the bibs and gloves, but hold the side of butter because the Surfing Special sauce is amazing!! The wait time to be seated was only 20minutes even with a full house. Our waitress was so friendly and gave us recommendations for the sauce. Other staff stopped by our table as well to check if there was anything we needed. My husband could have rolled me out of the restaurant I was so stuffed.
I stumbled upon Surfing Crab yesterday and am so happy that I did! They're a great seafood boil option with fried seafood items and a full bar. Visiting during their lunch hours seemed to be the best most cost effective because you can create a 2 item boil for $17.99. Dinner boils start at about $31-32. They have daily drink specials that feature beers, cocktails like the Hurricane and margaritas. During my visit, I opted for a fried shrimp basket w/ fries ($11 on lunch menu) and a 2 item boil (shrimp and calamari). You're able to customize your spice level, they had about 5-6 different seasoning options and each boil comes with sausage, potatoes and corn. And yes, crawfish was on the menu; however, keep in mind that crawfish season doesn't start until February! If they're serving them outside of February-May, I'd be suspicious. Everything was seasoned great and they have some of the best fries I've ever had! I will definitely be returning to have another boil!
This is a great option for crab and seafood! We have been in twice since it opened and have had great service with Richard and Davy in the bar area. Front hostess area is friendly as well and the manager was helpful our first time ordering on the best bang for our buck! For crab and shrimp, this place is more affordable than other "crab boil" places and the flavor and spice is much more appealing (IMO). The edamame was a great addition our last visit as were the sweet potato fries and rice!! Perfectly sticky rice !! Look forward to the next time for sure !
Thursday, Soft opening day finally! I have been waiting for this day! Party of 2 around 7:00 p.m. and we were greeted and seated immediately. We went with the understanding that the crew would be figuring everything out since this was the first day and we were pleasantly surprised at how well everything ran so smoothly. The food came out quick and our server was attentive. The manager even came around to talk with us. I enjoyed the hush puppies, I love hush puppies and anytime they're on the menu I get them. I also ordered the house salad with shrimp. The salad was fresh and the grilled shrimp was tasty. My boyfriend ordered the #2 combo boil with the Cajun seasoning. It was very good and the flavor was spot on. Next time I told him to get the everything seasoning. I'm really happy that this location is open in Round Rock and I look forward to visiting often! Especially when it's live crawfish time
This is a chain restaurant with many locations. The one in Round Rock, on the east side of I-35 north of 45, has been open for several weeks. Based on reviews here and elsewhere, we and another couple decided to try Surfing Crab on a recent weeknight. We were less than impressed. The menu is large, but the choices are largely limited to greasy fried food or a seafood boil. For dinner, you can get a large pile of boiled items to share or choose half or full pounds of shrimp, clams, mussels, etc. There's a bucket and a roll of cheap brown paper towels (the kind you get in a service station restroom) on every table. You'll get a paper plate (maybe more than one if you get an appetizer) and a fork. No other utensils, napkins, or wipes were offered at any time. We ordered 2 appetizers to share, both fried. Both came out quickly with tasty dips. Then we ordered our dinners. Order taking seemed to go well. Our group had a flounder sandwich, a couple of mixed baskets, and a flounder basket. I would have considered a boil had there been an option on the dinner menu for a mix other than in half pound increments. It looked like that was an option at lunch. Everything fried came atop Cajun fries, which were crisp. tasty, and plentiful. Unfortunately, the person who delivered the meals (not the same person who took our orders) was unable to identify what was in each basket, other than the sandwich. That should give you an idea that all of the fried foods were rather similar in appearance. Everyone at our table agreed that the fried foods were way too greasy, and that we would not consider ordering these again. The seafood under the breading definitely seemed fresh, so it was a shame to have it ruined with a thick and greasy breading. The combination of crummy (non-absorbent) paper towels, paper plates, and greasy food, particularly given the prices, is just not our thing at dinner. Hence the rating. On the plus side, the containers they use for leftovers are among the best I've had at any restaurant. .
I have tried more of these seafood boil places than I can count and all over Austin also. The spice is perfect, the flavor is perfect, and the pricing is very reasonable but the flavor is what will bring me back over and over again. My boil had a lobster tail, shrimp, crab legs, potato, corn, and sausage; the to go comes with gloves and a bib so that the yummy juices don't get you dirty. The first time I went was with my wife and we ate in restaurant and we each got a $6 hurricane and wow was that delicious and powerful, it was a nice experience to sit and drink while watching the World Cup on their many different TVs. We interacted with a worker named Jesse who wore a cowboy hat, super friendly and welcoming. A guy like that will make any restaurant successful. If I could eat in restaurant that would be preferred but with three kids to go is just easier and the taste ordering to go didn't suffer at all. We will for sure return for the drinks and and I don't agree with their 3 star review, the flavor alone should make them a four star yelp restaurant
Can I just say- I had heard this place was good - it was AMAZING. I ordered a pound of crab legs and clams with double corn and had the Surfing Special Seasoning mild and it was the best seasoning I think I've ever tried. We also ordered calamari and garlic bread. Both great additions. The servers were great! On top of filling out drinks. The vibe is very casual. I have been dying to go back - who wants to join me!!!
Me and a friend came here for dinner this weekend and had such a good experience! We had been craving a seafood boil and after seeing some positive reviews, decided to try this place out. We ended up splitting the round rock special with the surfing special seasoning. We added extra potatoes which I think made this a lot more filling but overall it was a perfect size for the two of us to share. The seafood had great flavor and seemed like good quality. We also got some Cajun fries to share and honestly I would skip on those next time. The fries were not tossed in the seasoning so it was super uneven and the ranch that they use here tasted like bottled hidden valley (not good). They did have good drink prices and happy hour specials. Our server was great and the restaurant itself was very nice and had tons of seating! Overall I would definitely recommend!!

This was our first time going and dining in #TikTokRecommeneded @ Surfing Crab in Round Rock, TX. Our server was kind and very attentive. The ambiance was also cool, quiet but not a desert town. We ordered and waited about 15 minutes for our 2 bags which came with 1/2 lb snow crab, 1/2 shrimp no head and 1 lobster tail each and I added Broccoli with the surfing sauce (medium) in the $39.99 bag. Disclaimer: The sauce is waaaaaayyyy better than Hook & Reel. But y'all.....as I'm about to get ready to throw down, I see something that looks like black string at first glance. I reassessed and tried to convince myself it wasn't what I thought I was seeing though, so I showed my gf to verify that I'm tripping. She thought it was a gill or something from the crab. I told her to pull it to make sure, she pulled it and she's dragging a long ass piece of straight black hair from in between my crab and corn. Y'all I was immediately disgusted . Even more upset at the fact that I've been looking for a seafood spot in Austin since going to Hook & Reel, that place is TRASH! Anyways, first impressions are everything. I will not be returning. That showed me carelessness and uncleanliness for my experience at their establishment. It's scarring to me by principle but even worse because from tasting the sauce and a couple of broccoli. The waitress comes and checks in, I tell her what I discovered in my bag. She lowkey checked to see if it was mine, however, I'm an indigenous woman who embracing my 4b natural hair in Bantu knots and twists at the moment. She grabs the food, and tells me she'll remove and fix it. She comes back tells me the manager is working on a new bag and will apply a discount. The manager comes and asks if I want a new bag or a refund. Since, we were dining in and didn't pay for anything yet, I sold him I don't want the bag anymore. We left both bags there and spent our money elsewhere. I'm super grateful that I didn't eat any more of the food before I saw it. Unfortunately, I decided to do this review after I already addressed the issue, so I don't have a picture but I promise yall it was #CRINGE. Anyways, TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK! YOUVE BEEN WARNED.
I don't care what anyone says... this is the BEST SEAFOOD BAG BOILS around Austin... yes I know this is Round Rock but we live in Austin & have tried EVERY place here so we started surrounding areas. The service is top tier! The staff comes by to make sure you're good constantly so you never go long waiting for refills or to get some attention for an issue. The vibe is great, TVs on & the place is always clean. I read a review complaining about the napkins & buckets that's STUPID af. Don't come to a seafood place if tha bothers you. I love that they had the whole roll of brown paper towels so we don't have to keep asking. The buckets are super helpful to clear out the soft shells of the shrimp instead of piling on a plate. The FLAVOR is ALWAYS ON POINT!!! We even tried the other location but the Round Rock location beats it! We always go for date night. It's much lower priced than @Boiling Crab & taste 100x better than their soggy shrimp! Hook & Reel is just a hard pass... it's not flavorful. LA Crawfish is not good & Krab Kings is overpriced for mid food. I make my own seafood boils & ppl would rather buy from me than go to the other locations. Surfin Crab is the only one who beats me! Most times I can't even get a pic because we dive in! Oooh & food is always fast!
Delightful seafood boil spot that I definitely want to revisit! We were pleasantly surprised by this spot, having tried a few different seafood boils and none really hitting the spot the way this one did. We chose to give it a try since we were looking for food in the area. Walking in, you're immediately hit with an under-the-sea type ambiance filled with fun decor and the comfiest seating I've ever experienced. Every table is already covered with paper that has their very own cute crab logo, the same logo that can be seen on our water cups. I got their drink of the day which was a Bahama Mama for only $6 - a refreshing deal of a cocktail! We ordered their calamari which was nice and crispy, and a boil to share. The boil blew us away with its flavor and comes with several potato and corn much to our delight. Everything was well cooked and swimming in the sauce which made a nice pool in their gigantic metal bowl. The clams were a bit salty so next time we might opt to just do double shrimp. The service was extremely friendly and very quick to check in and fulfill requests. The server who brought our boil asked if we wanted him to open up the bag for us to which we said you're the expert! It was a nice little demo for us. They had forgotten to include the sausage we ordered for our boil so we asked for some and they were able to bring it out in only a minute or two.
First time to location and chain. Was actually better than I expected for a chain. The food was perfectly boiled. The spice was good, kind of regret not going spicier despite getting a medium, but the Cajun flavor was good. The service was great. Arrived at 930 and left around 1020. It was a bit busy when we arrived but everything was done swiftly and perfectly. We asked for no sausage and they provided more corn instead which was fantastic. Definitely a good place for boil to go. The ambiance was very hustle and bustle but relaxed at the same time. If I'm ever up in round rock again I will definitely go to this location again.
A great example of southern style seafood restaurant. The dining room is well decorated with sea style environment, fishes, ocean water, crustaceans, etc... the restaurant was busy so all the food we got was delayed. Server was nice to share how backed up the restaurant was. I ordered the fried shrimp with flounder combo. I love how the fries have that beer batter exterior so it's extra crispy. The shrimp was great plum and juicy. I felt like the batter was a little too thick and the batter didn't have any flavor in it. The flounder was good, but the fish was dry. I wish for the price point. The fish was a little thick thicker in meat. It was slightly sweet white meat so that was good. The chicken wings honestly are really good. I was surprised how crispy and juicy the wings were. I love the Cajun flavor along with the lemon pepper. You can really taste both seasonings. They have the chicken wing fried game down very surprised how good the wings were, crispy skin and juicy white meat. The oysters were great, big sized oysters, no sand or shell chips. Nice sweet flavors from the oyster meat. Clean tasting, a little briny, good seafood taste. Alll the side dipping sauces were good, cocktail, ranch, etc. beers were good too. Sigh... Surfing Crab, we need to have a little talk. After a long night of work, my fiancé and I just wanted a nice little Friday night snack. Nothing fancy, just some good seafood to end the night. I called in my order around 9:00 PM and ordered Combo #2, which comes with 2 snow crab clusters. We chose green mussels and shrimp with medium sauce, plus I ordered an extra side of sausage when I arrived. I got there around 9:24 PM, and there was already a line, so I honestly assumed my food probably wouldn't be ready yet. Welp... SURPRISE! My food was already sitting on the counter when I arrived. Now, I'm wondering... how long had my $56 seafood dinner been sitting there before I got there? Because by the time I got home and opened those bags, pretty much everything was COLD. And then came the real plot twist... I opened the bag expecting saucy, seasoned seafood, and instead I got DRY SEAFOOD. The sausage had more sauce on it than the entire bag of crab legs and mussels! I'm still trying to figure out how the sauce was supposed to work because the crab legs were dry, the mussels were dry, and basically all the meat was dry. The crab legs had seasoning sitting mostly on top, but there was no sauce throughout. The mussels? Just sitting there dry as the Sahara. The ONLY thing that was actually hot was the extra sausage I ordered when I got there My fiancé didn't even eat. And THAT made me even more irritated because this was supposed to be our little Friday night treat after a long night of work. Instead, I'm sitting there looking at $56 worth of cold, dry seafood like... surely somebody is playing in my face. Surfing Crab, I'm mad. I'm mad that we paid that much money. I'm mad that the food was cold. I'm mad that the seafood was dry. And most importantly, I'm mad my fiancé didn't even get to enjoy his food! For $56, I need more than a bag of seafood that looks like it has been waiting on somebody since the dinner shift started. Surfing Crab Round Rock, y'all are going to have to do better. Because when I order seafood with sauce, I expect the seafood to actually meet the sauce. Not the sausage to be swimming while the crab legs are over there fighting for moisture. Friday night: RUINED. Fiancé: DIDN'T EAT. Wallet: $56 LIGHTER. Me: MAD. I really hope this was just an off night because I wanted to like this place. But based on this experience... I got their drink of the day which was a Bahama Mama for only $6 - a refreshing deal of a cocktail! We ordered their calamari which was nice and crispy, and a boil to share. The boil blew us away with its flavor and comes with several potato and corn much to our delight. Everything was well cooked and swimming in the sauce which made a nice pool in their gigantic metal bowl. The clams were a bit salty so next time we might opt to just do double shrimp. The service was extremely friendly and very quick to check in and fulfill requests. The server who brought our boil asked if we wanted him to open up the bag for us to which we said you're the expert! It was a nice little demo for us. They had forgotten to include the sausage we ordered for our boil so we asked for some and they were able to bring it out in only a minute or two. read more

First time to location and chain. Was actually better than I expected for a chain. The food was perfectly boiled. The spice was good, kind of regret not going spicier despite getting a medium, but the Cajun flavor was good. The service was great. Arrived at 930 and left around 1020. It was a bit busy when we arrived but everything was done swiftly and perfectly. We asked for no sausage and they provided more corn instead which was fantastic. Definitely a good place for boil to go. The ambiance was very hustle and bustle but relaxed at the same time. If I'm ever up in round rock again I will definitely go to this location again. read more

We were running errands in Round Rock today and decided to try the surfing crab. I doubt we will ever go back. I got the fried calamari and I substituted coleslaw for the Cajun fries. The calamari had zero taste and the coleslaw with some of the worst I've ever had. They also gave me the Cajun fries so I did like the ones that didn't have all the seasoning on them. We also got the half-and-half special with Freid shrimp and fried oysters. The oysters and the shrimp were good and the sweet potato fries we substituted for we're also very good. I'm not sure how long they have been open but our waitress was very unsure of several things and she was training someone! I'm not sure what kind of sauces they brought me with my calamari but I ended up getting some cocktail sauce and tartar sauce and those were much better. There were also some Chinese dishes on the menu and I've noticed some so-called seafood places have started doing this. I prefer the old seafood places that serve nothing but seafood! It was not crowded at all during lunchtime and I guess that should've been our clue. read more
My group of four people came here around 4:45 pm on a Saturday to celebrate a birthday. The place had just started to get busy, but we were seated quickly. Our server, Hailey, was very sweet and quick to take our order. She let us store our cake and Ice cream in the fridge which we were thankful for since some restaurants don't allow that. The alcohol drinks did take long to come out, but they were delicious! We got the appetizer sampler. The spring rolls, hush puppies, and mozzarella sticks were so good. I wish I could say the same about the calamari and fried shrimp. The calamari had an odd rubbery texture and the shrimp was chewy. We ordered the hook special with the surfers seasoning special and split it between three people and that was way more than enough for each of us. We got two crab clusters each and a whole lot of shrimp, sausage, and veggies! The kids hamburger was so delicious too way better than expected!! read more

For our first time here it was very nice, clean and staff was very friendly. For food we started with oysters , which were so good ! Then we moved on to the boil, and you can't go wrong with any of it, was so lost in the food I forgot to take a photo until after ! That's how good it went ha ! But I did remember to take the photo of the molten lava cake! Which was really nice. Would differently come back next time I come into town! read more

Had a great experience at Surfing Crab. My wife loved the snow crabs and shrimp and thought they were excellent--fresh, flavorful, and seasoned just right. We started with the calamari as an appetizer, which was perfectly crispy and a great way to kick off the meal. My fried catfish plate was another standout, crispy on the outside and tender inside, with generous portions that really hit the spot. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, making it an easy place to enjoy a good seafood meal. Overall, great food and a place I'd happily visit again. read more

1st off food is great hush puppies definitely don't recommend boil was amazing. Reason for 2 star service is absolutely TRASH!! And I mean that seriously odered my water beer app and food at the same time. As you can tell in hush puppies picture no drinks even at the table (water) how am I going to get my appetizer before my water. Second odered my beer with my water took 25 min still no beer had to tell another server to cancel my beer...beer comes 10 min later after canceling told the lady I didn't want it anymore. Definitely would say sit at the bar been here twice and service is trash servers need proper training.!! read more

The steamed oysters were small but still pretty good. The appetizer sampler, though, was a big miss completely tasteless, just batter, and the shrimp tasted old. To be fair, I tried half a piece of everything to make sure it wasn't just one item, but nope... the whole sampler was not good. (Don't get it.) I let them know and sent it back, but don't expect it to come off your bill because that's not happening. On a positive note, the watermelon martini was really good. Will I come back? Maybe but definitely not for anything fried. read more

In a word, YES! When you walk in, clean is your first thought. Then, well staffed and well managed. Seated quickly. Maleik was my server. I asked for recommendations. He asked a couple qualifying questions and led me to the Round Rock Boil. Delivered in good time. Everything was on point. Lobster, crab, shrimp all cooked perfectly. And the sauces, multiple choices. Tender potatoes, juicy corn. Bib, gloves, utensils, napkins at the ready. I'm already inviting guests for my next visit. Came in on 12/6 to celebrate a friend's birthday who loves seafood. Our waitress was great and offered great suggestions. One of the best seafood boils in Austin. Would recommend to anyone who loves seafood. Years ago this place used to be a Macaroni Grill. The inside and outside was great. read more

Overall great spot my wife and I have been multiple times. The reason I am not giving this spot. A five star is due to portion sizing on the fried fish as well as quality. The first few times we went when they were new quality and size was great the last two times we have gone the quality and size of the fried flounder has been extremely small. I got the flounder Poboy and had a lot more bread than I did fish. I would love to see them get the quality control corrected on the fish, portioning size and quality overall atmosphere is always fun and energetic. The staff is always super friendly and nice. read more
