So I saw an add for this place on my Instagram where they were advertising about Tacos Birria, a type of taco that has been trending around. As soon as I saw that I came here to Yelp to research about Ze's diner in Eagan. To my amazement this spot is designed like a 70's shake and burger joint but they serve up Gyros and Tacos along with other traditional American fare. Also the name Ze doesn't sound like what you'd name a restaurant that is set in the 70's. That made me interested but kinda nervous as I was concerned about how authentic the food was gonna be given such a hodge podge of concepts. Given Covid being rampant I decided to call in for a pick up order. I placed an order for the Tacos Birria and a Hibiscus Tea. They told me it'll be about 15 minutes so after I made my order I drove to them. When I got there I went inside and the place screamed of 70's, that bright red color scheme all over the place. But the people working there were of Central/South American background. I went up to the counter and said I ordered the Tacos Birria over the phone and they said yes it is ready with the tea. I chatted with the cashier about how excited I was to finally have Tacos Birria! After I paid I went out to my car and I couldn't wait any longer! I opened up my box of tacos and my cup of Consommé. The soup filled the car with a vibrant smell of chili spices and the color was a dark red. The tacos were filled with beef and topped off with the classic onions and cilantro. But what made them really outstanding was the melted cheese that brought it all together! I took one of those beautiful tacos and then dunked it into that red Consommé, then immediately brought it up to my mouth for a bite. The flavors had me jumping for joy! I was surprised that the flavors of the onions and cilantro were still able to punch through that chili spiced beef flavor of the Consommé and lightened the impact of that broth. But what made it really delightful was the melted cheese, as I took a bite and moved the taco away the cheese was stretching out as if I was taking a bite of pizza. It was a fun sight for me. To help quench my thirst from the tacos I took a sip of my Hibiscus Tea and it hit the spot just perfectly. It was sweet, cold, and had a good Hibiscus flavor to it. Overall I enjoyed the tacos very very much. I enjoyed it so much that the very next day I came back for more. But here is where I point out why I can't give this place the full 5 stars. When I returned the very next day for more I was told there was no Hibiscus Tea and the Consommé was different. I noticed the person who answered the phone was a younger male instead of the older female I talked with the day before and he seemed confused on what I was asking for when I asked for the Hibiscus Tea, as if they never sold it? Then when I picked up my Tacos they didn't have any Consommé. I immediately asked where is the Consommé and the gentleman looked confused and said isn't it in the container with the tacos? I looked in there and it wasn't, just a small cup of chili salsa. I didn't understand this was the same restaurant that I went to the very day before and today the two gentlemen working seemed to have no idea what I was talking about. They gave me a cup of a Beef Consommé but it wasn't the same as what I had before. The broth wasn't red nor did it have the chili in it, but it was still a good beef flavor. With that being said I can't give a perfect score given how different my experiences were. I would like to come back again and see what the third time will give me. So I would say if you come here for the Tacos Birria, maybe come more towards the later afternoon cause I think thats when the real Tacos Birria Chef is in the house. read more

Ze's Diner in Eagan is located in a small strip mall, but it serves up some big meals. They serve breakfast all day and also have classic lunch/dinner options. My boyfriend and I visited on Wednesday around noon and it wasn't too busy. We snagged a table outside and were given menus by the waitress. It was so hard to settle on what I wanted because everything sounded fantastic. Whether you're looking for a juicy Lucy, beef roast, omelettes, or salads, etc. , you'll find something that suits your fancy on their menu. My boyfriend decided on the Cajun Breakfast (with andouille sausage for $3 extra) and I got the Gyro Benedict (it was a special that day). I swear, we licked our plates clean. The crispy hash browns that came with my benny were some of the best I've ever had. The benny's hollandaise was to die for, and the gyro meat was such a creative twist on my favorite breakfast dish. The Cajun Breakfast was perfectly seasoned and my boyfriend couldn't get enough of it! Our waitress was so pleasant, our food was brought out quickly, and she made sure to check on us as well as everyone else sitting outside multiple times. We are always on the lookout for new (to us) breakfast places in our neighborhood, and decided to give Ze's a try. It's a nice sized place with an open, warm feeling, booths and tables, and room for a larger group if you needed that. The service was exceptional...friendly, server asked good questions to make sure things were what you wanted, and she was terrific about checking in with us in case we needed anything. We both ordered the Cajun breakfast and had a pancake instead of toast (I always need a pancake). The Cajun breakfast was very good. It was a good sized portion, with fresh onions, mushrooms and green peppers, and it was cooked well. I would have liked to see a but more flavor in the hollandaise sauce though because it was just sort of "there" and not really contribution much to the flavor of the dish. The pancake was decent, and the syrup was terrific so it bumped that up a notch for sure! Overall it's a great place... comfortable, welcoming, with friendly service and good quality food. Great food and good celebration staff! We came in about 15 mins before closing and didn't realize it. They didn't push us out with 4 kids, they were generous and gracious and let us eat while they closed an cleaned. The burgers were amazing, and our middle kid loved the Minnie Mouse Pancakes. Use to love but have been disappointed the last few times, portions and quality have gone down. My toast was barely toasted it was more like stale bread. Will not be back! Disappointing . I've been to Ze's diner many times and I've always had a good experience. The food comes out fast the service is awesome. The only problem I have with this place it's not really a place you could sit around and chat with your family over a meal once you're done eating there's always somebody waiting in the door to have your seat. Mediocre food but great service. They close at 2pm on Sundays (yelp says 230pm) but even with doors locked they let a few people slide in at 2:05pm which was cool. Service was quick and friendly. French toast: nice thick slices, even breading and simple syrup. This was a nice simple dish. Little Adam 1/4 pounder burger: tasted like a burger you would make at home. Buns were soft and buttered. Patty was a little dry and thin. The Ze's sauce is a mix of ranch and french dressing making it a little sour but went well with the burger. Fries: I'm not a fan of the fries with skin on it but I'm told they were perfectly crispy on the outside just missing some salt and seasoning. Meatloaf: dry but good flavor. The brown gravy is flavorful and looks like there's more to it than the powder mixed kind. The corn and mashed potatoes were nice and buttery just needed to add salt and pepper. read more

Ze's diner was a welcoming sight and ambiance from the moment I stepped through the doors. Even though the restaurant was quite busy we were seated immediately and continued to be checked on. The old town diner feel was something this restaurant enough to life to the smallest of details. The food is a great bang your your buck and the portion sizes are spot on! I have only been here for breakfast and can tell you that the Mixed Mess, Country Fried Steak, and OMG Breakfast all deliver the goods. Also, they know how to scramble and egg. Yumm! Slightly sweet, malty Belgian waffle with crisp exterior and fluffy interior. I added the blue berries and was delighted to find that they were just that, no sugar, just as I like them. My breakfast also included cooked to perfection crispy bacon and two eggs over easy with wonderful gooey yolks. The atmosphere is an updated diner with classic checkered tile floor and linoleum topped tables; pictures of classic cars and celebrities line the walls and music from the 50s plays in the background. My parents recently moved to the Mendota Heights neighborhood and we were looking for a place to grab lunch last Sunday. An American diner is a crowd pleaser - there is always something for everyone! Ze's delivered on that promise. They have a large menu with some great looking options. From traditional American to southwest/Mexican to middle-eastern inspired options, I was was very impressed with the offerings. It actually made it somewhat difficult to choose what to order because they looked so good. However, for this first visit, I settled on their apple fritter french toast special for the day. I'm a sucker for apple fritters and to have one as french toast, I'm in! It was very good - it had plenty of apples baked into the bread and then sliced and fried up in an egg batter. It was sweet enough to not need syrup, but it came with it in case you want it. It also came with a choice of meat. I went with the bacon since waitress said that the sausage patties aren't made in-house. The bacon was quite good - crispy and cooked perfectly. I also stole a taste of hashbrowns from my sister - they were quite good too. The staff was very friendly and was right on top of refilling the drinks at the table. It feels like a family-owned and operated business, which meant that the staff gives it that extra personal touch. An all American diner with a flair of the Middle East. Egypt to be exact. My first time there. Warning it's kid city, not for the faint of heart. I love the kitsch and the tables and chairs from the 60's and 70's. There really is a Ze. ZeZe is the owner and we had the pleasure of her waiting on us. I got beef stroganoff. It was delicious and loaded with the tenderest of beef. I wish it had more sauce but I think it was soaked up by all the beef. Basil got a huge lamb shank that he loved. I sampled the chicken wild rice soup, and I had a salad. Didn't care for the non-homemade blue cheese dressing. The desserts look fabulous. I'm coming back for all 3 meals. read more

The fact of the matter is that you should have stopped at Ze's Diner each one of those dozen times because it is that good! We stopped for breakfast and had the special Pumpkin Pancakes and the Gyro Omelet. The pumpkin pancakes were moist and delicious while the gyro omelet was the best! The meat was cooked perfectly and had a great taste inside the omelet with cucumber sauce, onions, peppers, and cheese. Also the service was top notch! Friendly and fast!
