    Zen's Lobster Fried Rice
    Lily L.

Went here one day while I was passing by Astoria and I have to say, this place was definitely upscale. I felt completely out of place in my tshirt and jeans, however the food did not disappoint. We got char siu bone marrow and it was definitely the highlight of the meal. The bone marrow was perfectly buttery soft and added to the depth of the already delicious char siu buns. We also got their zen lobster fried rice. Although it was definitely delicious as well, it wasn't my favorite. Another dish we tried was the wagyu crispy nigiri. Don't forget to get cameras out for this dish as they torch the wagyu at table side. We also tried the roasted pork belly. The pork belly was super tender however it was a little tough to eat as the crust of the pork belly was a little on the tough end. The servers were also very attentive, my friend and I definitely enjoyed ourselves. We paired everything with a nice glass of Cabernet.

All I can say is WOW...this place will take your breath away!! So my friends and I was out. Looking for something to eat. And we came in to Zen. First impressions was Wow the food was a good 10/10. The portion was very good for 3 people. The steak and broccoli was so good the orange chicken juicy and tender. The service was excellent they treated us so well. The ambience will have you feeling like you're dining in Manhattan. The music was great and playing all the good R&B music . My friends and I had the best time and will definitely be back for their bottomless brunch with a live dj. Go check them out tonight you will definitely fall in love like we did

Great, chill ambiance. Can be fitted for romantic/ family / friends type of vibe. Service staff was quite attentive, they check on us every 20 minutes or so, and asking if everything is ok. The dishes we got were tasty, though the pork belly skin was a bit sticky, can be stuck to your teeth great flavor and texture though. The decoration is the restaurant is hip and modern, also has this on the wall circle chair setting, perfect for Instagram photos.

The dinner at zen was very nice. The food itself was very tasty, although portions were a bit on the smaller size. The highlight of the night for me was the drink, I don't remember the name and can't find it on the menu but I closed a picture. Was SO refreshing and very well mixed. It was a bit warm in the restaurant, the front wall was open providing a bit of breeze but was sweaty through most of the meal

Babyyy babyyyy I love the customer service and the food here . I came here for my graduation dinner and ugh 10/10 I can't wait to go back. The passion fruit drink with the added prosecco amazing. You can get cute pics here because of the dim ambiance. The stuffed lobster so good. The veggie lo mein? Omg we ordered another round lol. The prawns? So good. I legit can just keep going . Just go okay. You won't regret it lol . Customer service was amazing can't wait to go back!

What a place!! The decor is 10/10. Sultry yet exciting. Beautiful art all over, different type of seating: table top, booth tables.. Service: our server Brianna was excellent and attentive. Food: fresh.. and delicious.. the chicken fried rice was 12/10. Veggies were firm and crunchy which I love. Orange chicken. Was moist yet crunchy and flavorful. Chicken wings were regular. Nothing to write home about, missing the flavor pop!! Would not get again. Drinks were a bit pricy but delicious.

My first time visiting zen Astoria, the ambiance is beautiful. Great for a date night or birthday. I attended a birthday dinner. It was a prefix menu Family style. You do get a lot of food and leave with leftovers . You can take a lot of pictures there the filet mignon and broccoli taste delicious and I love the lo mein. The dumplings was good as well and the sesame chicken chicken sat teas are usually my favorite at any restaurant that I go to that sells it, but this is actually my least favorite out of all the other restaurants that I have been to. I had a lychee martini which was OK and a strawberry lemon drop I didn't really like the drinks are different. They have an acquired taste if I will come back not really sure I have had better expensive Chinese food at other places.

We initially planned to go to a different restaurant but as we were waking by zen the music made us rethink our dinner choices for the night haha. Spontaneous adventures are always the start to a great night. Don't mind the cowgirl outfit, it's Halloween weekend. So the story goes like this, a cowgirl and Kim possible walked into Zen.. The host was super sweet. The place was pretty busy as expected for a Saturday night but we were able to be seated at the bar right away. The bartender was very attentive and the service was great ! The overall atmosphere of the restaurant is a 10/10. A sexy little date night spot..and in our case perfect for a girls night out. The crispy sushi was my fav. These quick bites leaves you hungry for more. The calamari to my surprise was amazing! Calamari is always a starter for my friends and I - it's been a while since I've had some that I enjoyed, so I wasn't expecting much here. I am so glad to say I was pleasantly surprised. 10/10 I went home and raved about to my sibling because they need to try these! The lo mein was tasty and the portion was hugeee. Glad we ordered to share! I would love to come back whenever I'm in the area next. Highly recommend!

I had to check this spot out as I saw posted on ig and reading reviews on yelp that came out for it. This is right across the street from Blend Astoria. They have different cuisines, but have the same ambiance. Making reservations is recommended! Once you walk inside you're greeted by loud music and nice ambiance. I ended up walking to the back for the restroom and there's a hookah area right off to the side. I spoke to the manager and he told me they do parties and for 8+ people it will be pre fixed. There were a lot of different asian fusion foods to try out. For appetizers, I had chicken satay which comes in three pieces with this amazing sauce. The wagyu crispy rice was great too. They ask how you want it made and that's how they prepare it for you. The roasted pork belly was good, especially if you pair it with a side of rice or the chicken fried rice too. The ube cheesecake was a great recommendation by the manager and the waitress. Wish it was a bit bigger. Overall, the food was good, but the service was a bit lacking due to it getting super busy and not having enough waiters on staff. If that gets fixed it would've been a better time!

Thank you Zen for making my solo birthday dinner a wonderful experience, great service, vibe, beautiful decor, nice playlist. The food portions are a bit small but tasty, loved the strawberry lemon drop. Was surprised they gave me a dessert & sung happy birthday to me, free of charge. Thankful for my waitress & another waiter who took my pics for me, being that I was alone. I will definitely visit again.

The food and drinks are overpriced for the area and what you get but the bartenders are super nice. We came in and sat at the bar and the restaurant is gorgeous, I had white wine because I wasn't necessarily wanting to drink too much and it was okay. A bit basic but something you can get anywhere. Then I ordered the lo mein and it was okay at best, it was missing flavor but the bartender was attentive and helpful so I guess come for that and skip the food.

I've been dying to try this place and my friends and I finally had the opportunity to. The calamari was interesting, it's not like your classic fried calamari. It was purple fried and the sauce on the side had a mild tar tar taste to it. We got the fried vermicelli noodles with salmon fish eggs, and it was to die for! It was absolutely delicious. When also had ordered the short ribs, which was glazed with this nitsuke sauce!! It was delicious, we were amazed about how plain it looked but tasted so extraordinary. The presentation was cute & sleek. The resturant itself is a beautiful design, Asian fusion themed & wonderful hospitality. I would love to come back to try their excellent array of desserts.

What I came back for and then a little to go, but didn't end up getting anything to go

My spouse and I are always down to find good momos, and this being close by and Tibetan cuisine, it was definitely a must. Ambience: It seats a decent crowd. It has nice Tibetan artwork and you feel the warmth from the owners. It's cozy and it felt great. Service: Top notch. I don't say this lightly. The server sat us down and was just so joyful. Her smile and demeanor made you feel welcomed. Brought us water and asked the usual and offered to explain any dishes. Now we are onto the good -- might I say great -- part. THE FOOD. We didn't order momos on our first visit. Food: My wife got the Himalayan Rice set (chicken) and I got the Rildok. We also got the Shabhaley -- from the description I thought it was literal meat. The Shabhaley, to put it, looks like an empanada. It was far from it in the best possible way. The pastry was crisp but soft and the beef filling was divine! Seasoned with so much flavor and it was paired with a beautiful sauce. The Rildok was exquisite. In my opinion -- I even told one of the servers, whom I now know is one of the owners, that the flavor profile reminded me of a cheeseburger, and it's my favorite new dish. The Himalayan Rice set was awesome. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The tingmo (like a bread) was soft and delicious, paired well with the chicken. The dal reminded me of my own homeland's dal. We've now been back here multiple times. My goal is to try the entire menu. The vegetable khoty momo was surprisingly my favorite, and I'm someone who loves meat. I've now had all the flavors and preparations of the momos, and you can't go wrong! This place is a gem. Their quality of food is top notch, and their actual aunties are in the back making this with so much love. I want everyone to try it. The owner and his staff are amazing and welcoming. They remembered me from my second visit, and that speaks volumes. They're all down to earth and it shows. The passion they have for their food and their kindness shines through. Parking: Can be rough depending on time of day.

We were one of three couples dining in. It took them some time to get us seated, which wasn't a big deal since there were just two servers and no host per se so we assume they were busy. The good part - Food was a 3.5/5 maybe even a 4 overall. We got seated and got to appetizers - tried the5 soup dumplings, crab and truffle soup, and lychee shrimp. Presentation was good and taste was okay too. For mains we got the lobster udon and salt and pepper tiger prawns, both of which I liked. It was good comfort food for a particularly cold day. The food served was also nice and made sure we were doing okay. Now the bad - there were gnats flying all over which made me wonder how bad the kitchen was. The tables at the end of the room had a lot of junk (cleaning supplies and table cloth bundles) stowed on which made was very unappealing. The worst bit - we had not had the worst time and left a 22% tip. An hour later I received a phone call saying that my card had been declined and asking me for my card details. Thankfully I was able to log into my account and could see the transaction. I then asked them how much the bill amount was and what I had ordered - they told me an order completely different from mine. I'm glad I pushed back coz initially the person who called was pretty aggressive and rude about how my card had been declined and didn't want to wait for me to check my statement either. Having figured out their mistake they then quickly hung up - no apologies or explanation!! All of this left a terrible taste in my mouth. Overall, I don't think I'm going to return. If you go - beware of the gnats and please don't give them your credit card details over the phone without verification!

I specifically made a reservation for upstairs seating for my birthday. I was running late, so I called ahead and had my reservation changed to 9:30 PM when it was originally for 9pm. When I arrived, I was told that I could no longer be seated upstairs because of staffing issues and that the area was closed. This was frustrating because no one communicated this to me when I called to change my reservation nor when I book originally for 9pm. On arrival I spoke with Nick, the general manager, to understand what happened. He apologized for the inconvenience and told me he would make sure I still had a "wild experience." When I asked what he meant, the accommodation offered was dessert on the house. Considering this was a birthday reservation that had been planned in advance and my party was only two people, I would have appreciated more effort to accommodate us. Even if that meant having a staff member serve our table upstairs, I would have appreciated an attempt to honor the reservation rather than simply being told the area was closed. Unfortunately, a complimentary dessert did not make up for the lack of communication or the fact that the seating I specifically reserved for my birthday was no longer available. I ultimately decided to turn around and leave rather than stay and spend my birthday somewhere I was already disappointed with before even being seated. I understand that staffing issues happen, but better communication and a stronger effort to accommodate a reservation that was planned in advance would have made a huge difference. This was supposed to be part of my birthday celebration, and I left feeling extremely disappointed. Based on this experience, I will not be returning to this location or another one of their locations.

But a restaurant of Sea Thai's caliber charging the maximum 4% credit card surcharge, on top of automatic gratuity, feels excessive and unnecessarily greedy. These are operating costs that should be reflected in the menu prices--not tacked onto the bill after the meal. The food was good, but the final bill left a much stronger impression than the meal itself.
