Went to Rice K on a Monday night. Interestingly, we were the only people eating, but the bar itself was packed. The bartender was doing triple duty hosting, waiting tables, and bartending, so they were clearly stretched thin. A few things stood out service-wise. There were multiple children seated at the packed bar, which felt a little strange. If you're marketing the space as a restaurant... but also a "lounge," it probably should feel a bit more adult in that setting. There was other FOH staff around, but service overall felt distracted. We were seated next to a dirty eight-top that stayed unbussed the entire time we were there. We sat outside since the weather was nice, but at one point a gentleman who seemed connected to the restaurant (he wasn't addressed by staff) sat down from the street at one of the tightly packed tables and loudly watched TikToks while vaping. Not the best atmosphere for dinner. As for the food, which is the most important part, we ordered sushi and it ended up being a bit forgettable on this visit. The menu actually has some really interesting ideas and combinations, but the rice tasted a little stale to me, which might have just been an off night. That said, I've heard they host good events and they obviously have a rocking bar going on a Monday night. But this is New York City, where there are so many incredible Asian restaurants--Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, and more. If you're going to do Asian "fusion," the little things matter and it really has to be great to stand out. Here's hoping it was just an off night. We'll be back to try again. read more

You cannot beat their happy hour, I believe they recently extended it till 8 PM! One of the best lychee martini's in town. The ambiance and staff is always welcoming, sushi is tasty & just a very laid back vibe overall. Lots of space to dine indoor & outdoor (now that it's nicer out). Definitely recommend! read more

There are new additions to the menu that they have not put online yet! They have soup dumplings!! I repeat-- they have SOUP DUMPLINGS!! What are the chances that I chose a restaurant that unknowingly has soup dumplings ‍ And these ones had a different flavor from most of the ones I've had! The soup was lighter and had a nice mild flavor. I also got the mango chicken which was also pretty light and refreshing. The sauce was nice and sweet but balanced with everything else on the plate. They skimped a bit on the chicken but I was actually pretty focused on the wide selection of veggies that were packed on top. Very solid choice. read more

Rice K has been one of my favorite restaurants in Astoria for the past few years. Best sushi in the neighborhood and the yummiest leche martini! The restaurant is always clean, with a welcoming atmosphere. It's surprising that it's not always packed, considering how fresh the ingredients are and how thoughtful the staff is. The manager came over to our table and introduced herself. She was so friendly! She then gave us a free round of shots! Rice K will continue to be my go to Sushi restaurant in the area. read more

I asked of the heat was on and the waitress said yes and pointed to a small space heater next to our table. Wow. Ordered a Merlot, Tai ice tea, crab Rangoon and 2 rolls. Waitress comes back and says they are out of Merlot. Cab it is. My Rangoon was cold, like right out of the refrigerator cold. The other pieces were ok. We just had the last bite of the crab and out comes our rolls. They were tasty. Felt a little rushed. I went to use the bathroom and what a mess. Urinal had a bag over it. Mirror covered in graffiti and I swear it was colder in there than the restaurant. Went back to the table and asked for a check. Not sure if we will be back. read more

Got delivery from Rice K the other day. This place seemed to dabble in all sorts of Asian cuisine so I was bit hesitant to order from them but thought what the heck maybe they'll surprise me. I was definitely not surprised and regretted ordering from them. We ordered an appetizer of Mongolian beef bao which left me unimpressed - it was just okay. The real disappointment came with the Cantonese pan-fried noodles though. Instead of noodles, they served what felt like fried string wonton chips, and when drenched in sauce, they turned oddly sponge-like. far from what actual pan fried noodles are. Highly against ordering that dish. The surprising thing was the sushi; the salmon rolls were delicously thick and tasted fresh. This place was just OK. I got some type of pork/soup dumpling...a chicken dish with broccoli and sauteed onions, and the green tea mochi. Everything was just 'meh'...acceptable...but nothing great. To be honest, the food was like what you might expect from a generic 'Chinese' / pan-Asian restaurant, located in a strip mall out on Long Island. There is little ambiance or charm to the interior. The music was a bit too loud, and they have two TV screens over the bar. (As a foodie, whenever I see a place with TV screens, that is usually a red flag, that the place is not so much about the food/quality.) What a Remarkable and Pleasantly unique Place This place is an amazing amalgamation of Chinese and Japanese food with an Old Style New York City Pub. You can come in for lunch, dinner or a late night, after work libation. The service is friendly, welcoming and accommodating. Astoria needs more places like this. The atmosphere is very casual and friendly I can easily see myself coming here after work for a nightly night cap. I came here for a quick solo lunch after a class I finished. The ambiance was nice. Light music was playing in the background, and the lights were dim. My waitress was so attentive and sweet. I ordered a miso soup and 2 sushi rolls. I can't remember the names of my rolls, but I will post them next time I visit. They offer lunch specials and happy hours. No complaints about this spot. It is one of the most disappointing Asian Fusion restaurants I have ever eaten at in a long time. We went to Rice K because of its reputed reputation for serving a mixture of Asian cuisines from Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and Malaysian dishes. What we got back was an inaccurate order and poor service. As we entered at 2,45 on an early September day in 2023 We were immediately confronted by a waitress who was adamant that they had to close by 3.30 p.m. OK, we said we would dine in and take out anything we had not finished. I wanted to try Malaysian and my partner a Chinese dish. She ordered Peking Duck. And Orange Chicken. What she got back was a mango chicken. I wanted a Malasian recommendation. Instead, I got Thai pad Ch, which wasn't Malaysian. We also asked for ice water several times and continued to receive tap water. The waitress refused to listen to us (either- a language problem or something else) as we repeated asking her three times. Great sushi restaurant in Astoria with a great variety of items on their menu. I was here recently for a late lunch on a Saturday while waiting for my friend. A truly incredible establishment. Rice K is a groundbreaking spot, serving up some of the best dumplings, sushi, and noodles at a very comparable price! Karaoke nights are really what make Rice K special. Being a smaller venue, it allows for a more intimate karaoke setting. I've ordered here a couple times for sushi. I was skeptical because they seem to serve all Asian cuisines without specializing in one area. Surprisingly, I think the have one of the better sushi in the area. I know Watawa and Sakura are more popular but I'm obsessed with this place's sundried tomato and avocado roll. It's salty and pairs perfectly with some spicy mayo. I also think they do a great job with their crunchy spicy crab roll. Shrimp tempura is pretty standard. I don't recommend ordering 2 rolls of it though because I feel like you only get maybe a roll and 2 extra pieces worth. The lunch special only comes with a soup OR salad and honestly for $13.50 it should come with both. The other sushi places in the area offer both for around the same price or less. I also tried their crab rangoon/cheese wanton which were delicious! I ordered through seamless and didn't see an option to add spicy mayo so I wrote it in the notes. They ended up adjusting the price on my order without calling me first. When I did call, they told me it cost $1.25 which I think is ridiculous for a small container of spicy mayo. I had to go through a whole process of cancelling my order and reordering because they couldn't change it back. Used to be my favorite place to order takeout from. Boneless spareribs were great and not swimming in half a container of oil. General T chicken was some of the best....but Each time the food has gotten worse, I say to myself..."just an off order and it's covid" but it gets worse and worse. The wontons I just received are undercooked and the actual noodle is hard. I also feel like they blatantly ignore notes on the order. Ask for something well done like spare ribs and they come even more minimally cooked than if you didn't ask for something well done (just small example) Hope they turn it around, but going to look elsewhere for Chinese food from here on out. read more

More like 3.5 stars which is still fine but we had a few hiccups here. When we first walked in we were sat right away because it was pretty much empty so that was good. We sat at the bar and our bartender was also our waitress. We ordered the Shanghai lady cocktails to begin with it was okay champagne with grenadine and I can't remember the rest but it was pretty good. Like dummies we started ordering from the lunch menu. Yes it did say Monday- Friday at the top but we were handed the menu anyway so we thought maybe there was an exception. Anyway we ended up getting the brunch menu (there was no breakfast on the menu btw unclear why it's called that). I opted for the salmon teriyaki meal that came with white rice, salad, gyoza, and an avocado peanut roll (sounds weird was pretty decent). My meal was great, The salmon was cooked perfectly and the vegetables were a nice addition. My dinner companion got the general tso chicken with white rice, broccoli, and crab wontons. His Mail which I tasted against his will was really good as well the chicken was very fresh and crispy. Anyway they get 3 1/2 stars because we had to keep asking for refills which by the end we never got left thirsty af. Then I was charged the entire bill $48 after we told him to split it 2 ways on our cards. Then my dinner companion was mysteriously charged $21. In a neighborhood where traditional Chinese cuisine is rare, Rice K offers good food where the seasoning and the quality of ingredients are at much higher tier than any American Chinese in the area. The price is a few bucks higher but not by much, so I highly recommend picking up food here if your budget allows it. A yelp elite event a couple years back put them on my radar. Since then we have sporadically ordered non-sushi take outs from here. Their food are always consistent and yummy. They sit happily in my tummy without me feeling bloated. I like their chow fun (flat noodles) with any protein. And all their entrees (the sesame/general tsao's chicken are great because the batter outside is not thick), except Moo Shu ones because that is one of the dishes I can't accept in American Chinese style. I'm biased, OK? One of my favorite things from their kitchen is the way they prep the beef. Very well executed. The slices of beef are uniform, always tender, never chewy. Seasoned just right. Give their pepper steak a try, goes perfect with white rice. read more

I had a such a good time during the Chinese Year Elite event that when I realized that I walking distance away, I knew that I would need to stop through with my friend. We headed straight to the bar so that I watch the NBA finals game comfortably and check the drink menu too. We had come from dinner in the area so I only ordered the pork dumplings which were very tasty. There were so many good drink choices. We ordered the Black Margarita and Shanghai Lady. Both were really, really good. The Black Margarita was strong but tasty while the Shanghai Lady was light and fizzy with a lychee to spice things up. The owner was the bartender for the night and her husband kept us very entertained; our second round of drinks was on him. The customer service was superb. We were treated like extended family. Rice K is one of the worst Sushi restaurants I've been to in NY. The food here is not fresh, and the service was very horrendous. For appetizers we got: Yellowtail Jalapeño (which probably the best meal of the night) could have used more more yuzu sauce - 3/5 Crab Rangoon the cream cheese was expired and the shell was more so pastry dough 1/5 Mains Spicy Girl - again not fresh had a strange sour taste 2/5 Irresistible - shrimp tempura was not fried completely and soggy 2/5 Spicy Tuna - tuna was stall/bland it was probably sitting out all day 1/5 As for our service, we sat down and literally within 30 seconds the wait came over and said "what do you want" we asked for a few minute and he was rushing us the entire time. Came here for the yelp promo and gluten free soy sauce. Predominantly sushi menu with good prices and a sushi a la carte option if you want to sample things. The waitress was really sweet and accommodating and made sure to double check on the gluten free items. We got two appetizers and a few a la carte items. Overall pretty good and filling.
