I love Chinese. I grew up on it. This place is just ordinary. Nothing breathtaking lol. That sounds harsh but it's exactly that. I'm not trying to be negative. It's fast food. For when you don't want to cook at home. I haven't had any bad experiences here. But I also don't think their food is so great to give it 5 stars. today me and my handicap mother made an order of fried dumplings, garlic wings with pork fried rice and an order of chicken gizzards, they refused to come up to our door even tho we're so close and my mom being in a wheelchai and tried to even cancel our order, eventually the order came and when we unpacked it the dumplings were soggy even tho we got fried dumplings, the dumpling sauce tasted like metal, the chucking wings were super tiny and were hard from being cooked a while back and the plates they put them in were dirty and stained with something black, when we called back to inform them the lady was very rude to my mom and said she doesn't care if she's handicapped that shed have to ride her chair back to the Chinese restaurant if she wanted a refund then hung up, we will never spend our money with people who treat other humans like animals and this is exactly what it felt like, our order came out to 28 and I gave them 32 But they don't deserve to even be paid for this kind of treatmen. and I can't even post the pics i took of the food, if anyone thinks about buying from this location please read this and think again because what they're doing can get people sick and on sure the last thing they need is a lawsui, absolutely horrible. read more

Aside from the lady at the counter yelling to confirm your order--because apparently, that's what makes it "authentic"--this Chinese takeout refuses to display its food compliance grade on the front window. Could that mean they're failing to meet health standards? Walking in, the place looks filthy, with drinks and cans stored right near the kitchen. It feels like a disaster waiting to happen, especially since they're hiding their health inspection grade. Astoria deserves better. read more

I'm giving this place 1 star because the shrimp rolls are good. The wonton soup sucks. No flavor. The color is extremely yellow but not in a good way. The crab rangoons are equally terrible. The ribs are ok but generally this place is lacking. There are better places to try in Astoria. King Wah, step your game up or just close down. read more

I was cat sitting in this area of Queens over the weekend and decided to do take out. This was pretty much one of the nearest Chinese spots near my friend's apartment and I went for the plunge. Actually significantly better than anything in my neighborhood in brooklyn so kudos. I just ordered cold sesame noodles and crab rangoon. But the noodles' sauce just tasted way better. I hate when there is either no sauce or you open the lid to sludge and it was that perfect in between consistency. The crab rangoon you can actually see flecks of crab in it - promising. They were also insanely fast and gave me a fortune cookie. Hot dang. I haven't gotten a free fortune cookie in ages so it made my day. lol. I can't speak for how their meat and rice tastes but hey, I was impressed. And it's super cheap. For two orders of things it was under $9. Tonight was my first time ordering from New King Wah; an Americanize Chinese takeout and delivery restaurant. My go to Chinese restaurant no longer is on GrubHub or Seamless. Bummer. The Good: outstanding packaging of food. They use those plastic rounds with a clear lid. Great for storage as well as next day nuking. They also place the rice in a separate container. No more soggy rice. Did give a free soda, even with using GrubhHub. The Food: not bad, but not great. Very average, but I must say it was tasty. Beef with scallions was average. Beef tender. Sauce slightly sweet and again tasty. Shredded pork with string beans again average, but tasty. Dumplings where doughy, but tasty. The Bad: I am very spoiled by my go to place. Place an order and the guy is ringing my door bell in 16 minutes. Fast, fast, fast delivery time. New King Wah did not take a long time. They delivered my food within the GrubHub time line. I am just so spoiled with my other place. Food was just warm. Had to nuke it. Bummer. Overall, New King Wah is just your average Americanize Chinese takeout and delivery restaurant. Nothing special. Just standard food. While they have awesome packaging; I was the last of the 3 or 4 deliveries on this particular run. I could tell by my sesame cold noodles being hot from my other hot dishes. We are new to the area so we tried takeout from here on a recommendation from a friend, but were really disappointed. Spare ribs were tasteless-- very little bbq sauce on them. The shrimp in the shrimp fried rice was overcooked and so mushy, while the spring rolls were definitely undercooked. The 2 stars are for the fried rice because it was the best part of the meal. These guys are awesome for Sunday Hangover Chinese Takeout. Y'all know what I'm talking about. Sometimes Sunday Hangover Chinese Takeout happens on a Tuesday. Sometimes I order to have it delivered despite living across the street. These guys don't judge. Sometimes they throw in an extra free soda if our order is big enough. Sometimes they throw in an extra fortune cookie or two, which makes me wonder if they think 3 or 4 people should be ordering. I just pretend they know I have a cat and it's the cat's fortune cookie. The pork fried rice is great. I order it without vegetables because I don't like onions, and it's always full of pork bits. I'm also a big fan of the chicken and broccoli entree. The key is the broccoli doesn't get soggy. The dumplings are damn tastey, too. Don't we spend our lives searching for that Chinese takeout spot walking distance from home that kicks so much butt? Not sure why there is so much hate to this place when its one of the best Chinese food take outs. First off. the lady can come off as rude (hence the star deduction) but if you really think about it, which Chinese (fast food) take out place is friendly? Also majority of these places are busy so they aren't going to sit there and have a conversation with you. I live very close to this place and I can tell you that it is the cleanest Chinese Food take out spot. How do I know? Well for one, they change out and filter their oils 2 times a month. Sometimes three. The lady who takes the orders at the counter is quite anal and proud of her spot so she makes sure its clean. Actually she is the first owner of the establishment (they change throughout the years) to actually slightly renovate and clean the place. Now about their food.... its very good and tasty. They don't drown your food in sauce and they don't make it too greasy. They steamed dumplings are addicting. Whenever I order out, I always order steamed dumplings. I liked that on Seamless I had the option to select a spice level, I selected Medium but there was almost no spice to it at all, it was very Mild. It's a decent Chinese takeout place. I only really order one thing from here--chicken with mixed vegetables. This is by far their best made dish. The chicken and veggies are plentiful, the sauce is super tasty and not too heavy/salty, the veggies are crunchy and delicious, and the rice is always moist and fresh. I always get hot chili oil with this plate and it tastes amazing. I've ordered sesame chicken, dumplings, shrimp with lobster sauce, and moo goo gai pan as well. Sesame chicken is not the greatest. The chicken looks like it's been fried either too many times or too long, because it looks tan/brown and it's soggy. The sauce is so-so, definitely had better. Chicken is sort of tender but again, had better. I would avoid sesame chicken here. Dumplings are average--they also look too fried though. Unnecessary amounts of oil. Lobster sauce doesn't have much flavor to be honest, I've had much better elsewhere. Moo goo gai pan is pretty good, but could definitely be tastier. Overall this place is decent and super cheap. I love this place! The boneless spare ribs are AMAZING. Not chewy at all like the pieces you push off to the side. This place hasn't failed me yet. I normally hate American Chinese spot but my boyfriend introduced me and I have been addicted since. I sleepover for New King Wah. True story. I figure I would give them place a review, since I've ordered from them a few times now. Unfortunately, Astoria has terrible Chinese food, but I will say for a take-out place, this is definitely one of the better ones. Better quality, still cheap, and fast deliver...but not suspiciously fast where you think they just refried your food. First time we ordered, I wanted to play it safe and see if they can get the basics down. So we got a chicken with broccoli and a general tso's. I can say I was happy with both. The chicken with broccoli was a little salty (but i guess most, if not all take out places are), but it wasn't super greasy with oil spots sunk on the bottom of the carton. Also, the broccoli was still green with a bit of a crunch to it. Thumbs up in my book. My husband's General tso's was actually still crispy and pipping hot when it was delivered. It also didn't have thick breading, and was mostly nice pieces of chicken. Again, pleasantly suprised. Only big downfall was that their fried rice with their combo dishes was nothing to write home about. At all. Their brown rice was on the hard side and disappointing. We did have the white rice the second time we ordered and it was perfectly normal. Oh and I agree with Tia's recommendation. The hot & sour soup is quite good here. TL;DR: give them a shot, as management seems to have changed hands since most of these negative reviews were written. No matter what GrubHub time says, your food will be done in about 30 minutes. I used GrubHub to order the following: General Tso's Chicken w/ Pork Fried Rice; quart of Hot and Sour soup. GrubHub emailed me saying my order would be ready in about 90 minutes. I thought this was a bit long, but it was a Sunday night and figured they were busy. Service: New King Wah called about 50 minutes later and let me know my order was ready, and asked when I would be round to collect it, albeit a bit abruptly. I told them I'd leave right away to pick it up. I live a block over, so not a long walk. When I arrived, I showed the attendant the email I had received from GrubHub with the 90 minute estimation and explained this is why I hadn't shown up sooner. She was completely in disbelief and apologized profusely, adding that the estimations had been wrong before and that she would contact GrubHub (again) to have the mistake fixed. She added that my food had been done for about 30 minutes. It was still nice and hot, and seeing as it wasn't her fault, I didn't expect anything for compensation. Regardless, she offered me three sodas and refused the tip I tried to give her. Nothing bad to report with customer service. Food: General Tso's was bangin' and just what I wanted. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, savory and hot. The broccoli that accompanied was CRISP and fresh, not that soggy rubber green garbage you're used to. Pork fried rice was good as well, with tender pork (not that chewy crap most places use). The Hot and Sour soup was a MAJOR disappointment, as it was the crux of my order (had been drinking) and one of my regular dishes at any Chinese place. Very bland and seemed to come right out of a box/bag. Avoid the soup(s), engage the chicken, ignore the GrubHub times. read more

Above average ease at substitution of snow pea pods over carrots and green peppers, without the annoying '$1 extra' crap. Very good chicken fried rice. Not greasy or oily and tasty white chicken meat, which is a welcome respite from the dark mystery meat of most. Quick moped delivery with food still hot. Since I was taught as a child to say something nice or not say anything at all, let me say that the brown rice was delicious. And by far the best part of the meal. I'm used to getting sesame chicken delicately crisp on the outside and tasty on the inside. Maybe King Wah uses a different style, because theirs' was limp and soggy. I'm guessing they must have some old secret special seasonings, because only a few of the sticky nuggets tasted all that much like chicken. I wasn't sure what to expect with the soup, but what it lacked in flavor, it made up for with a plastic aftertaste. By this point, I wasn't feeling adventurous enough to see what kind of delicacy was waiting in the center of the wanton. I'm sure that it might be considered delicious in some places; a Turkish prison, perhaps. I decided to try King Wah tonight strictly from convenience - a mistake that took 19 years of living in this neighborhood to make. Its true - there is no decent Chinese food in this part of Queens, and King Wah just reinforces it. Go for Thai instead. read more
