    B4. Sushi Box

I love this place. I usually order from this restaurant from online platforms like Uber eats but this time, I ordered from the restaurant directly which is 100% better. Please support your local restaurants by ordering directly!! You also save money from service fees etc. It was a free delivery since I ordered more than $10. Sushi is always great, consistent. Nice family business :)

5 rolls, salmon special and octopus

The food was so great! The rolls and sashimi were super fresh and fulfilling! The rolls were amazing especially, much more tasty then expected. Definitely will recommend friend to order sushi here!

Even before the food arrives, the restaurant leaves a strong impression with its stunning Japanese-inspired interior. The space is beautifully designed, blending warmth and elegance in a way that feels both inviting and refined. From the soft lighting to the natural wood accents and thoughtfully arranged decor, everything about the atmosphere feels intentional. It captures the intimate charm of a traditional izakaya while still feeling modern and stylish, making it a wonderful setting for anything from a casual dinner to a more special night out. The food more than lived up to the beauty of the space. One of the first highlights was the salmon onigiri, a dish that proved how satisfying simplicity can be when it is done well. The rice was soft, fresh, and perfectly formed, holding together without feeling too compact, while the salmon added a savory richness that made each bite feel comforting and flavorful. It was balanced, delicate, and deeply satisfying in a way that made it memorable despite its simplicity. The seared salmon salad was another standout. The salmon itself was beautifully prepared, with a lightly seared exterior that gave it a subtle crispness, while the inside remained tender, buttery, and smooth. That contrast in texture made the dish especially enjoyable. Paired with the freshness of the salad, it felt light and refreshing, yet still substantial enough to feel like more than just a side dish. It was a dish that managed to feel both clean and indulgent at the same time. The grilled squid was particularly impressive and easily one of the most memorable items of the meal. Squid can often be difficult to get right, as it can become rubbery or overly chewy if even slightly overcooked, but that was absolutely not the case here. The texture was spectacular--tender, delicate, and pleasantly springy without any toughness. Each bite had a light smokiness from the grill that added depth, while the squid itself retained its natural sweetness. It was expertly prepared and showcased a level of precision that really stood out. For the main courses, both the Tonkatsu Ramen and the Black Pepper Ramen delivered distinct experiences, each with its own appeal. The Tonkatsu Ramen was deeply comforting and satisfying, with a broth that had a rich, velvety texture and a full-bodied depth that coated the palate beautifully. It felt smooth, hearty, and luxurious without being too heavy. The noodles had an ideal texture as well--firm enough to provide a satisfying bite, yet soft enough to soak up the broth and integrate perfectly into the dish. Altogether, it was a bowl that felt warming, balanced, and incredibly comforting. The Black Pepper Ramen, on the other hand, brought a bolder and more assertive flavor profile. The broth had a smooth, glossy texture, and the noodles again had a pleasing chew that gave the dish structure and substance. The black pepper added an unmistakable warmth and aromatic intensity that made the ramen stand out immediately. It was flavorful and memorable, though the pepper was slightly overwhelming at times. A bit less black pepper would have allowed the other flavors in the broth to come through more clearly and created a more balanced bowl. Even so, the ramen was still enjoyable, especially for those who appreciate strong, pepper-forward flavors. Overall, Izakaya Fuku is a restaurant that succeeds on every level. The stunning Japanese interior creates an atmosphere that feels both immersive and elegant, while the food reflects a real attention to detail in both flavor and texture. From the comforting salmon onigiri, to the fresh and beautifully prepared seared salmon salad, to the expertly grilled squid with its exceptional texture, and finally the rich and satisfying ramen dishes, every part of the meal felt carefully executed. It is a place that offers not just excellent food, but a complete dining experience, and it is well worth visiting for anyone looking for standout Japanese cuisine in New York.

(source: Google AI) Lunch before a medical appointment in the Forest Hills, Queens, NYC vicinity summons Japanese cuisine. Business was relatively quiet and rather empty on a Tuesday early afternoon for lunch as there were only two people and I subsequently became the third patron. There was no wait for a table and - finally my luck turned around with no wait to be serviced and no negative body language projected against me as a single lady dinning alone! I was finally seen, heard, and acknowledged as I am one life in the smallest measurement. Customer service is, indeed, as described by Yelpers to be attentive, efficient with order fulfillment and polite with reverence by good measures. I did receive a printed sales receipt to retain. I did leave a 20% gratuity for this male server who did served me well. Restroom facilities are relatively clean with a contemporary modern sink. There are Sakura cherry blossom branches that fills the ceiling for decorum. There are QR scan code laminated to the table at the corner to order. I am old school and highly prefer printed paper menus interacting with a human with a waiter for ordering. Disposable bamboo chopsticks and Renge 蓮華 or Chirirenge 散蓮華 in Japanese and Tangchi 湯匙 or Tiaogeng 調羹 in Chinese for spoons are distributed as utensils. This casual Japanese pub is located in Forest Hills' main shopping district on Austin Street. It is very accessible via E, F, R and M trains at MTA NYC Transit Forest Hills -72nd Continental Avenue subway station. I do not see any business cards nor takeout menu for grabs. Four stars? The menu was average and did not really entice my interest. I was hoping to see Matcha ice cream. This Ramen noodle entrée includes one side salad with ginger dressing. The salad was average. The ginger dressing was also average served separately, but rather insufficient in quantity. Oh! I wanted slightly more salad dressing, but not the entire restaurant's stock like SNL's "Lisa From Temecula." The noodles are the main protagonist in this entrée as I wholesomely enjoyed. Asian noodle soup is always comfort food during tumultuous times. All other ingredients were a delight, fresh and served middling warm, but neither hot or piping hot. The pork belly was average. The brown half soft boiled egg was okay, but I prefer white eggs. The soup base broth is Tonkotsu for pork bones and it is not spicy nor salty. The Tonkotsu soup broth was average. Wafuu Izakaya includes a side salad with this entrée which most Japanese restaurants charge the salad a separate fee and distinguishes from competitors. Hot Matcha green tea was served which I am grateful. Matcha green tea (either hot or cold) is one of my favorite default. This noodle soup and salad certainly eat my fill. The hot pot itself I think was average but the real standout for me was the appetizers. Seating in a booth tucked away in a corner on the first floor was a bit awkward to navigate. The sauce station downstairs was not well maintained and several items were out of stock, but that may have been because it was around 9PM. Second floor seating and sauce station are better. Food 4.5/5: Main complaint is that their menu is really confusing, despite this being my second visit. There are 4 pricing tiers. Everyone in a party has to choose the same one, so it can get pricey fast. Higher tiers include seafood and more premium wagyu cuts. You still get unlimited wagyu in the lowest tier but seafood is not included. I think this setup is fine because premium seafood items like lobster and crab tend to clutter the pot and are difficult to deshell while hot but also taste worse after cooled. Although the premium wagyu cuts do taste richer and "melt in your mouth," most of the fat is renders into the broth. Therefore, I don't think hot pot is the best way to enjoy wagyu, so the higher tiers didn't feel worth the price. The best part of the meal was definitely the appetizers and specialty dishes. The wagyu bone marrow was amazing and a must-try but only available to the second tier or up. Ambiance 3.5/5: I think being tucked away in a corner booth made the experience less enjoyable. The table was small for a party of 6, so we constantly had to rearrange dishes whenever new food arrived. It was inconvenient that everyone had to get up whenever I needed to refill my drink or sauce. Service 4/5: The first floor sauce station wasn't restocked throughout our stay so options were limited. Otherwise no real complaints regarding service to our table.
