40. chicken jhol momo

I've been here couple of times. The food is decent so I went here again on Sunday afternoon. There were 3 tables seated before me and they were waiting for their food. I went in and it took a while to get server's attention. They had only one server looking after everything so I didn't make a fuss about it . I waited and then got seated and had to ask for menu and then wait some more and then i got to order . The food came out pretty fast. Only 3 star because management could do better.

We got the: - French fries - Vegetarian chow mein - Sake The food was delicious, I especially loved how crispy their fries were. My only note was that it was a touch too oily for me. I liked the chow mein too, it was hearty and came in a pretty big portion. The staff were very attentive as well. I'd recommend this place.

3.5 stars. Lakeside NYC is a new entrant into a rapidly growing Newari Nepali food scene in Queens (and by rapidly growing, I mean 2 restaurants). I liked Newa Chhe in Sunnyside better, but Lakeside NYC is not a bad option in this neck of the woods. While I'm not an expert in the region, it seems one of the signature dishes of the area is aloo tama, a fermented bamboo sabzi that I can't admit I've developed a taste for. We liked the other items in the thali, including the other funkier achaars and the daal. The best item of the meal was the bara, which is in some ways reminiscent of the moonglets that are especially popular in the NCR - a delicious fluffy yet crispy lentil based pancake served with a tomato-based chutney. Our least favorite? The veg momos which seemed to use an odd processed cheese as part of the filling.

We came here for the 12th annual momo crawl to try their traditional steamed momos. We had a few folks tell us that this was their running favorite. The line was insane and they ran out of momos when we were next in line. Noooo! The beef momos came out in 5 mins but were definitely undercooked, the meat was pink with that undercooked mushy and not springing consistency. When we pointed this out, they said 'no, 20 mins cook time". Really? You don't take the temperature to test? That is food safety 101. So, after that 1st bite (most people just pop them in their mouth so may not have noticed they were undercooked) we lost our appetite. We also no longer pop a whole momo into our mouth!!!! May just have been for this day to keep up with the endless demands for momos, but not sure I am keen to return.

Amazing food, great portions!

We're so happy to have Lakeside recently added to our neighborhood restaurants here in JH! All very yummy dishes with bold and well-balanced flavors. Their momos are stuffed with tons of meat and you can pick from 5 different ways to cook them. Can't go wrong with any of them, but we especially enjoy the fried on the bottom and the Johl momos so far. Chicken chili is also amazing, and their Thali spreads are so fun to taste and try. Definitely will be back!

Food was good kind oily! Service was good and there were only one person so it was hard for her to do all the job for every table. Took a while to get certain things. Overall good experience!

Nice ambiance. Great service. Drinks were alright, bar doesn't appear to be a full bar. Does have mocktails.

The food types are similar but offer different spice/flavor profiles. They have a large section of noodles, soup, and rice. A veggie section with various combos of cauliflower, potatoes, onion, bamboo, blackened peas, mustard greens, and spices. Some of the Indian dishes: paneer butter masala, palak paneer, chicken tikka masala. Some of the appetizers include crispy tofu, fried soybeans, a Nepali snack platter with marinated meat, goat, beef tripe, sliced beef tongue, fried jerky, duck. They also have a momo section. We had their famous chicken lollipops (essentially fried chicken) and it was crispy and spicy (in a good way). We also had sadeko (marinated or tossed) bacon, which was rich and tender. I had one of their Nepali cocktails, which was pleasantly spicy (the chatpata aam, made with tequila, spicy chatpatey syrup, and mango puree). Service was attentive. Inside is cozy, lots of dark wood and colorful flags. They also often have entertainment in the evening, so I would love to return to hear some live music while trying more Nepali cuisine.

The place isn't huge but it is a good size and was able to accommodate us. There were many appetizers on the table that were very delish. A hit for me were the seasoned potatoes, Aloo Dum (dry). I ordered the Shogo Ngopa and decided to go with tingmo instead of the white rice. Trying something new! Also ordered a mango lassie. Food came out fresh, warm and delicious. The tingmo reminded me to a steamed bun with out the filling but with layers. Everything was good. Everyone was friendly and kept our water glasses filled. At 9pm there was live music which was a nice treat. They even sang happy birthday to our friend. Nice place and will definitely try again!

I really enjoyed my dinner here with a friend…read more We shared the duck choila, the vegetarian momo, and the chicken and cheese roti. The duck appetizer was very flavorful and the duck was pleasantly chewy. The vegetarian jhol momo had a simple, vegetable filling with a pleasant texture with a perfectly chewy wrapper. However, the real star was the broth they are served in. The flavor was bright and intense. Our entree, the roti, really tasted like a delicious chicken quesadilla. It had a slightly crispy exterior and just enough filling and was pleasantly rich and greasy. It paired well with the black bean curry and the additions of slaw and tangy achar perfectly cut the richness. This place serves authentic Nepalese flavors but with a more approachable menu studded with items more familiar for a less adventurous eater- the type of place you can take your parents to.

Delicious Tibetan food on the corner of Broadway and Woodside…read more I've tried their almost everything on the menu and it's all great. My favorites are the liang fen, sukuti (dried beef chili salad), Dan Dan noodle, and fried momo. It's always a treat to stop by. It's a small unassuming space with a great menu. While I say Tibetan food, they have Tibetan/ Nepali/ Chinese food due to the proximity of those countries and the neighborhood, I assume. They do it in the best way possible. Service was quick even though there was only one server when I was there. It is a small restaurant, there are 6 tables that seat 4 people each. Will be back because of the efficient service and delicious food.

The interior is pretty small with just one waiter, but most of the food comes out pretty quick. Our momos however came out 20 minutes after all our other dishes came out. Special liang fen w/ Wai Wai: I've never heard of Wai Wai noodles before and thought they'd be cooked noodles, but they're actually uncooked crumbled up instant ramen noodles. They were wrapped up in a noodle-like pancake which had a pretty nice chew to it. It was a little too spicy for my palate though. Tibetan sausage: It looked like a blood sausage, but tasted a little more bland. The texture was a bit more crumbly than a normal Chinese sausage. Stir fried tongue: Our favorite dish of the night! The sliced beef tongue was so flavorful and melted in your mouth. I would come back just to get this dish again. Beef momo: I appreciated how the skin was not overly thick like other momos that I've had. The meat itself wasn't overly flavorful, but the chili sauce that they gave was a really nice addition to the momos. Overall, I would come back here just for the stir fried tongue. The price was also really cheap (most items being around $10) with big portion sizes. We were extremely full and could barely finish all 4 dishes between 2 people.
