I hate giving negative reviews, but after today's experience at lunch I just don't have a choice. Horrible, rude service and overpriced food with questionable cleanliness is my take away. I won't return!
Myself, my father and my 3 little ones (ages 1, 5 & 7 years) needed a place for a good lunch before resting up for more hiking this evening. I had driven past this place and wanted to give it a try.
I'll try to keep this review short...
Good:
Fresh pizza, made as requested at the buffet in 6 minutes.
Decently stocked salad bar.
Nice atmosphere overall.
Our waiter was kind when a glass of water was spilled and soaked our table.
The 2 stars are for the above.
Now for the bad:
I would have enjoyed some good bread with the soup. It was beer cheese soup, but no bread to be found anywhere.
We were initially ignored when we walked in while a staff members chatted on a cell phone nearby.
Our waiter took over 10 minutes to come to our table after we had been seated. The restaurant wasn't busy, so why did it take so long?
I ordered a $15 soup, salad and pizza buffet for myself and my Dad got one also. My daughter got a bowl of pasta and my son got 2 slices of pizza.
When asked what my 1 yr old would be eating I said very clearly "he just nibbles whatever I get since he doesn't eat full meals all the time." The waiter acknowledged this and at NO time did he tell me there would be a charge for him to share my food. If this is policy, shouldn't it have been mentioned so *I* could choose what I wanted to do?
I enjoyed 2 small bowls of salad and 2 pieces of pizza. I also tasted the beer cheese soup but found it too spicy for my liking, and was disappointed there was no bread for the soup. As expected, my 1 yr old nursed and nibbled off my plate - 1 piece of baby corn, a little shredded cheese, a cracker, a bite of pizza and about 3 spoonfuls of soup.
Our drinks were not refilled, and the pizza being VERY spicy, having no drink made it hard for me to enjoy my food. In addition, I could never get our server's attention to get an additional plate for the pizza buffet or any other need. The attendant at the buffet line said to just use the same plate... I've never been to a buffet where you use the same plate twice? I question the cleanliness of this...
The bill came and without a word the waiter had charged $3.00 for my ONE year old to eat soup. When I questioned him he said "oh I had to charge for the baby - it's my job." I would have ordered him a full meal if I had known there would be a charge for him to share with me, which is why I made it CLEAR up front. The baby didn't eat $3.00 worth of soup and I certainly didn't eat $15.00 worth of a buffet. I have NEVER been charged for my nursing ONE year old to share my meal!
This is really about more than the $3.00 charge (on a $50.00 bill). In general, we had poor service and when I brought up an issue with the charge, the waiter got defensive and rude. Also, I just have to question the cleanliness when new plates are not provided for each trip to the buffet line.
If anyone in authority read this, our waiter was named "Christian" and had a thick foreign accent. He desperately needs some retraining on how to treat customers. If your restaurant policy is to charge for a ONE year old to share with an adult, PLEASE be upfront about that. As we left, he was tattling to a manager that I didn't leave him a tip. I had intended to tip 15% despite the bad service but when you treat me rudely and charge me for my child to take just a few nibbles off my plate, and can't have the decency to tell me in advance? You do NOT earn a tip. Period. read more
