Great family pasta place located right in the heart of downtown Moab, UT. We visited a year ago and apologies but just getting to my notes to post a review. The three of us stopped for dinner during our desert excursion and it definitely hit the spot. The menu is huge - salads, sandwiches, pastas, pizza. The pasta is homemade, you can't go wrong! My daughter enjoyed the chicken Parmesan and my wife had a tortellini special. Our server, Karla, was great, very laid back, knew the menu and had answers for our quirky questions (okay mine questions, I'm weird and ask industry questions for my own edification). I enjoyed a housemade lasagna and glass of red. The beer and wine list was great, lots of options and nothing ridiculous and over the top. The seating had indoor, and the bar, and outdoor, so you can enjoy the desert breezes and smell. Even our ATV local company we rented from earlier in the day - we're having dinner there too! Now let's talk sauce! I am a sucker for a good flavorful sauce! This place did not disappoint... We stumbled upon Pasta Jay's while visiting in the middle of June. It's a corner restaurant with lots of outdoor seating. Even with the Summer heat, it was so nice sitting outside and people watching. We definitely had the Pesto Pasta, I believe the other dish was the Eggplant Parmigiana. Both were very good! Im actually shocked by the Yelp reviews because I thought the food had a lot of flavor and soul to it. Maybe it was because we had finished a 5 mile hike early in the morning and had our first meal here, but the food was great! All the servers were fantastic too. So I have this theory that places that are rated 3.8-4.2 stars are some of the best food I'll ever have in America lol. Backstory to give credibility... my grandparents are from Italy and own an Italian restaurant and my husband and I have been to Italy.... Anyway! We got the Chicken Pesto Tortellone and it was hands down some of the BEST tortellone we've ever had. The sauce was pesto Gorgonzola and it was the perfect consistency, usually sauces with Gorgonzola are either too runny or too thick but this was PERFECT. What a nice experience at pasta jays! When I looked at the menu I could see right away it was American Italian and not traditional dishes but that's what made this experience special. I had the dinner salad and the green chili ravioli. All meals come with garlic bread which was great to soak up the extra sauce. The pasta was cooked perfectly which isn't always easy when it is baked. Sometimes it will come out soggy. Not this pasta! It had just enough hint of that green chili. It hit the spot! Omar was my server on the patio who was friendly and attentive! I sat with my very well behaved pup in her carrier. What I ordered: Pasta a la genovese with chicken (27): fresh mushrooms & artichoke hearts sauteed in tomato sweet basil sauce served over your choice of pasta. For an entree that's nearly $30 I would have expected something that I couldn't have easily made at home myself. The dish wasn't very well seasoned and the chicken seemed to be simply boiled or baked, not sauteed or grilled like one might expect. We came here because it was Christmas Eve day and Antica was closed. We loved it and ate way more than we were thinking we could. We had a huge salad to start. Then my husband ordered the chicken Parmesan and I had the eggplant Parmesan. Both of them were absolutely delicious and I ended up eating all my eggplant. We were in Moab for Father's Day, and went here for lunch. I liked the cool little downtown area of Moab. Kind of reminded me of downtown Scottsdale in AZ. The manicotti and stuffed shells were stuffed with a wonderful ricotta and then topped with a lot of melty cheese and that bomb tomato cream sauce. The chicken parmigiana was nice and crispy, perfectly cooked, flat out delicious. I LOVED this dish. Pizza- They do a thinner crust pizza. Nice char on the bottom of the pizza. My kids and wife thought the toppings were good, but weren't the biggest fan of the dough/crust (I was....they just have whack tastebuds sometimes lol). My friends and I missed it every day when we were in the Sierra Foothills of California. If you're coming to eat something low calorie, light, and healthy this is not that place. Light on noodles and heavy on the ricotta, if you prefer your lasagna to have no texture besides runny sauce and creamed cheese then you'll like it. We didn't so much. Atmosphere inside is classically styled, and while fine, this place is all about the Main Street patio and people watching. Except the metal patio chairs are hard and super uncomfortable.
