We (3 adults) were in Moab for several days last week. We had two meals at Zax. The first meal was excellent; all three of us enjoyed our entrees. We were there for lunch and remarked that the BBQ Chicken pizza looked interesting. A day later we went back for dinner and ordered the BBQ pizza and an order of onion rings. The onion rings were great; the BBQ pizza was pretty bad. The menu said that it was made with KC Massterpiece BBQ sauce. I'm familiar with that BBQ sauce (and most sauces on the market). The pizza had shredded Chicken, green peppers, red peppers, onion, cheese, and SUPPOSEDLY KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce. On my first piece I couldn't taste (nor could I see) ANY BBQ sauce. Without the BBQ sauce the pizza was just wrong. My wife and sister-in-law were able to detect minute amounts of BBQ sauce on their slices. On inspecting the rest of the pizza, it appear that the cook may have used a total of about 1/4 teaspoon of BBQ sauce. I hope and suspect that this was a new employee in the kitchen who didn't know how to make a BBQ chicken pizza. I called over the waiter and had him bring a condiment cup of BBQ sauce which helped a little better didn't come close to making the pizza right. We tossed the leftovers, something I can't ever remember doing with (edible) pizza. So....ONE excellent meal at Zax, followed by a BAD meal at ZAX. Reading reviews for all places Moab, nothing looked like it would be a standout winner. This place surprised me. We ate outside and that was nice with the view. We went in at lunch time and walked right in. We had option of an all you could eat pizza bar that included the salad bar or the regular menu. We opted for the Zax burger and a trip through the salad bar, which you can sub for fries if you want. I liked that option. The burgers were HUGE on fresh baked ciabatta bread with a great grilled flavored. All of us left stuffed and happy with our choice. The waiter was on it, he was constantly out there checking on us and bring us refills and sauces. I would go back if I were in Moab again. read more

Had a great night watching the Rockies and eating decent bar food. My French dip was delicious! Served with grilled onions and peppers. The au jus wasn't overly salted, which I like. My son ordered the fettuccini Alfredo with grilled chicken. Again - very simple and not overly flavored, so he liked it. My other son orders a Caesar. This was probably the weakest link. Not much flavor and the croutons were hard as rocks. But for a tourist town, we got seated quickly, the service was friendly, and the food was decent. read more

Great spot to catch a game, we needed to see the Warriors and were able to score two good spots at this restaurant/bar. We ate here 4 years ago and liked it, so when we needed a place to watch the game we remembered this spot. Good service, good food, and fun ambiance. Visited this place for a second time September of 2018 on a motorcycle trip. It was crowded and the service was a bit slow. The food was still good and the beer went down nicely. My wife and I loved this place! Located conveniently on main street, it is within walking range of a lot of the hotels in downtown Moab. The food was Amazing and the staff was very friendly. My boyfriend and I visited Zax after a long day of travel and hiking. We ordered the Ramon Pizza with no onions, and a couple beers. After such a long day, the pizza definitely hit the spot. The crust was thick, and they did not skimp on the cheese - which I appreciated. Sauce was great! The service was okay. Our waitress was not the most friendly, and it took awhile for our beers to arrive after we placed our order. We mostly just cared about eating because we were starving and drinking lots of water. Stopped by for lunch before heading out. We walked in just before lunch time so they weren't too busy yet. Because it was really windy we sat downstairs in a booth. We order a pitcher of beer and some sodas for the kids and two of us just ordered the salad and pizza all you can eat. My husband order the fish and chips and other son ordered the buffalo wings. The salad bar is a very simple salad combination and two soups. I made my salad and tried some of the beer cheese soup. The soup was actually quite tasty. Since we were early our server asked what type of pizzas we wanted so they could start making them. It was pretty cool because we could order anything and as many as we wanted. We started with different options. I could see the cook making and setting out the pizzas at the buffet table when they were ready. Right out of the oven my son and I went over to pick a couple slices. My son stuck with his classic, pepperoni, but my favorite ended up being the honey chicken. I think I ended up eating three slices of that alone. My husband said the fish and chips was really good. The fish was cooked perfectly and my son ate all the wings.. so they must have been good. Yuck. Honestly I was looking forward to this place based on some reviews I read and the crowd that was there when we arrived. In hindsight, there was nothing to be excited about. My martini was good but other than that, nothing else was good. I was frustrated from the start with not a lot of small plate, cheap options. Even the salad bar was $8. I personally like to have smaller plate options for a reasonable price when I'm not that hungry. This joint offers full size burgers, ribs, steaks, and a variety of other sandwiches, pizzas, and fish and chips. I went with the salad bar option and came back with a plate of iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, croutons and ranch dressing. Hmmm....frustrated looking at this plate and thinking $8 but honestly those were the only ingredient options that looked any good. Disappointed to say the least. My husband ordered the fish and chips based on the waitresses recommendation. What was served were several sticks of fried batter (oh wait, with a tiny bit of fish) and some cold wilted looking fries. Yuck....he could feel his arteries clogging while he ate it and really didn't end up eating much of it cause it was so gross. I would not recommend spending your money here as it's overpriced and not worth the money....at least from our experience. read more

We have friends that kept raving about this place in Moab that they loved to go and eat at. They even tried to lure us in in a few times, but it wasn't until we drove by and saw the flames, that we even took a second glance at Zax. I called ahead and was told that we could get on the list once we arrived but to expect a 20 minute wait. I was at the hostess stand with in three minutes and was seated immediately. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, The salad and pizza bars were both clean and well maintained. They use bandannas for napkins which definitely has me rethinking my table linens. Solid pizza (with a buffet go figure) and a decent variety of "American" food if pizza isn't your thing. I can definitely see us making it a regular haunt if we spend more time in Moab. read more

Was not impressed at all. Ordered spinach artichoke dip that was 100% microwaved instead of being put in the oven to bake. It was unevenly luke warm and they shoved ice cold carrots and celery in it like whattt and not nearly enough pita bread with it. We were brought chilled mini salad plates as well and ordered 2 large pizzas as the main course with no plate change. And one pizza had like a buttery crust glaze and the other didn't?? Great sport bar! We went mid-afternoon after a hike at Needles in Canyonlands National Park. Pizza on the buffet was fresh; lots of options. Meat lovers included sausage, pepperoni, bacon and ham. Wow! Cheese pizza was sweet - odd - so ask about that before you try it. Salad bar was fresh and had usual suspect veggies. Bacon bits were fake, but we haven't found real ones anywhere. Server was from Turkey, and very helpful. Fun to visit with him - he's a skydiver! If they had real bacon and a more cheesy cheese pizza, I'd have rated it a 4. Good place! read more

We are in Moab for the first time, and this restaurant grabbed our attention by the burning branch that is set in front of the place, right on Main Street; HWY 191. Mind you, the entire town is very small but you get a wholesome feeling by being here. So, we HAD to give ZAX a chance - on our second day here. I wanted to know more about why the restaurant had a burning branch in it's front window, so I asked our friendly hostess - what is the story behind the flaming tree? She said that the owner had it built because he is an avid camper and loves camp fires. He wanted all the campers and hikers to come to his place to eat, so he had this attention-grabbing feature installed in the front room of his restaurant. Everyone who is traveling through Moab or lives in Moab is a veteran hiker, bike rider and fun-doer. So much for the legend of the burning branch; onto the food at ZAX. I ordered the Flat Iron Steak, 8 oz, medium rare. ($18.99). It came out more on the medium side, but it was hot, tender and juicy! I got the baked potato with butter; it was served very hot (the way I love to eat my food), and I also a got a wonderful dinner roll with everything. It also came with grilled squash, but that was marginally okay. The napkins are freshly laundered red bandanas, the sort of thing that hikers wear around their necks while hiking out in the Arches Wilder Lands. We sat out on the patio - which is the place to see people, and to be seen by people. It's a fun place to sit, and the flies will keep you company. My husband got the unlimited pizza, soup and salad bar, which he enjoyed immensely. Please - if you're traveling through Moab, like most of us are, give Zax a chance. This review is for their breakfast only. We were surprised to find that Zax is now open for breakfast at 6:30-11:30 everyday, even though their website doesn't tell you that. We decided to check them out based on the fact that pretty much everyone in our group likes going there for dinner. Our group ordered the following: Biscuits and gravy (pretty good) Four cheese omelet (very good) an item similar to huevos rancheros (can't remember the name...but it was "hella good") My total for the four cheese omelet and a drink was 10 bucks.
