I'm a regular at Zappitelli's for many reasons. With every visit I experiencer a friendly, neighborhood Italian restaurant with outstanding Italian food! Let's talk about some of the food - Veal Parmesan and Cavatelli with Meatballs is delicious with tender veal, nicely fried with lots of cheese on top, just the way I like it. The Cavatelli is always good here. Now the Veal Cannelloni Special was amazing - tender pasta stuffed with ground veal, ricotta cheese, and spinach covered in mozzarella cheese and red sauce...Oh My Gosh! The House Salad has cherry tomatoes, sliced cucumber, cavatelli olives, and mounded with mozzarella cheese! The Chicken Marsala is also a delight and the Lasagna makes you feel you're back in Italy. The portions are large enough you will have leftovers for a 2nd or even a 3rd meal = Great value $$ Keep in mind this not high-end dining and there is usually wait, but they have benches you can sit on while you wait. So why come here? Well, we're talking delicious comfort food at it's finest in a small, family-run, neighborhood restaurant. The sauce is always good! The staff is mostly comprised of polite, hard-working teenagers. You can always order Take-out which is just as wonderful because the containers they use ensure your food is piping hot when you get home. Prices at least 20% higher than other Italian restaurants in the area, and the pasta is just okay. We asked the server to put just a little bit of the pasta, before adding sauce, on a small dish for our little grandson. She said the cook won't do that. I said "can't he take a spoonful before adding sauce and put it on a little dish for the kid." Finally she said she would try and came back with a little bit on a plate, but she saId he would not do it again for us. I told her he doesn't have to worry since we won't be back. We cannot really say much besides they lost us at "hello!" because they never greeted us. We came in at 5:20 on Sunday evening -- every booth was full - mostly couples -- except the 6 tops. At least half the diners were finishing up. The one couple ahead of us said they were the first of a group of 7; and, were taken to see a 6 top...then brought back to stand waiting. We were clearly invisible - we were ignored. Thinking we 2 were mistaken for part of the 7, we volunteered that we were just 2 for dinner... Aggravated, a young lady tersely told us, "wait is 15-20 minutes; name?"No welcome/no greeting.) 15 minutes went by and 5 more couples came in and stood in line. We sat on the bench to wait. After 10 minutes, the same terse girl called out over the now dozen people standing in line, "is anyone on line getting takeout? If not, give your name, # in your party and take a seat - the wait is 15-20 minutes." Then she vanished. We stopped a passing runner and asked if we could see a menu, and she grabbed one for us. More time passed and two booths paid and left; but, no one waiting was called, except the table for 7 who still had only the first couple present. More time passed, more booths paid and left. It was 6:10 but still none of the now more than a dozen couples were seated. We were prepared to spend $50 -$70 (plus tip) for a nice Sunday meal but clearly it would not be there. No one even spoke to us or offered to do a takeout order for us, except the runner who handed us a paper photo of the menu. We were otherwise invisible. And, no one was getting seated. So, I get up and went to tell the desk we were leaving. But, no one even looked at me. So, we gave our name to a couple next to us and suggested they take our table when we were called. Then we drove back a couple of blocks and got a Cleveland Pizza and salad for $23 instead. read more

Ordered home made spaghetti carry out. Got there, picked up food and opened bag and rolls where missing for the two meals. Who eats spaghetti with out rolls or bread to dip in the sauce. I wouldn't have gotten spaghetti. I went back in and asked where the rolls where. Simply looked at me and told me they were out of bread and rolls. Didn't offer any other substitute? They didn't bother to tell me that when I picked it up so I said I want some money bag then and they said will give you two dollars off! The meal said it came with rolls, and they should have disclosed that when the meal was ordered instead of not even saying anything upon pick up. First time I've ever eaten here and I sought the spaghetti was good, but I wouldn't eat spaghetti without rolls or bread, and I would have ordered something else if they would have disclosed they didn't have any bread.! read more

Hands down the best pasta joint in lake county. I've been going here for decades and it hasn't changed. You simply must order the spaghetti or cavatelli as they are made in house. First things first, expect to take a doggie bag home because portion sizes here are HUGE. I've been to Zappitelli's twice for a sit down meal and definitely was not disappointed either time. This past time I went with my family and ordered the potato gnocchi. I could only eat half of them because there were so many, but that was not for lack of trying :). If I had room I would have downed the whole plate. Beer selection is ok, nothing spectacular. My one complaint is that we were one of three families in the restaurant at the time, and they seated all of us right on top of each other. I have been a faithful customer of this restaurant for 15 years. It's Our families go to place for Italian food. But sad to say we will not be returning. The last 4-5 times we've dined here it's been very disappointing. We ordered take out a few weeks ago, our bill was $90+, to me is a lot of money but that's what the family wanted. I ordered Lasagna and there was NO ricotta cheese between the layer, I called and asked if their Lasagna was made w/ricotta and I was told it was. I told the young girl that answered the phone mine didn't have any. She put me on hold, came back to me, told me they'd make me another piece if I wanted them to but I had to go get it. It's was late, it's a 40 minute round trip for me so I declined. I asked if I could get a credit for the next time, she put me on hold again, came back yo me and said I could. Gave her my name & number, she said she'd put it on the board and remind them the next time, I come in, I had a credit. So tonight, when our party got there, I mentioned I had a credit for a Lasagna dinner but was told, they'd give me the lasagna for free but I'd have to pay for the salad, which by the way was about 1 cup, if that, in my last order. I asked why and I was told, bc of the price of lettuce was so high, they had to charge me. When I got my lasagna this time, it had ricotta cheese in it but I really had to search for it. I'm not kidding when I say, I had less than 1/8 c of ricotta in the whole piece of lasagna. The prices have been raised but the portions have shrunk, considerably. It's sad that being a loyal customer for so long doesn't really make a difference. Our waitress, Jordan is just a doll!! Very attentive, friendly and goes out of her way to make your visit enjoyable. We had some really good comfort Italian cooking at Zappitelli's! The salads are your basic iceberg with some cheese, an olive, a pepper. The red sauce was really nice, not overly tangy. The fettuccini Alfredo was very rich and decadent. Two of our dishes were off of the nightly specials menu and contained hot peppers. I thought we could usually tolerate pretty darn hot, but this was freaking hot! My husband could not eat much of the sausage with peppers and pasta. He had to mix it with some plain pasta and red sauce just to be able to eat it. It had excellent flavor just very, very hot! I had the same Hungarian hots stuffed with a sausage cheese mixture and pasta with regular red sauce. It was spicy but much easier to eat! Nothing is light or small here. You could easily split one meal between 2 to 3 people or plan on taking home leftovers for the next day or two. Then there's some wonderful looking pastries on your way out the door by the register... we were so stuffed we had to pass them by but man did they look tempting! read more

So we decided to give this place a try, my boyfriend ordered spaghetti and I ordered the lasagna.Now we both have high standards when someone puts "homemade" on their menu, and they said that their spaghetti is homemade. For what you get, we are always satisfied. I presume the ingredients are good based on what's on the table: fresh cheese, mild hot peppers, sea salt, real cream, Colavita balsamic vinegar. I've pretty much given up on Yelp. Most reviews are from teens who aren't experienced or those folks who appreciate a lot of food contrasted to honestly good food. Zappitelli's gives you lots of mediocre food for a little money. Ordered small Deluxe Pizza. Toppings were only marginally OK except for the Ham. What's that about? What killed this Pizza was the crust. Tasteless, and extremely soggy and soft. I confess as a South Philly & NYC former resident, I'm spoiled by thin crust Pizza cooked in coal or wood fired ovens. Nice crust and made in store. I live in Florida now and Antony's Coal Fired Pizza in Tampa and Orlando are very good. Just saying so you know good Pizza can be found outside the Northeast. I then saw "Homemade Cavitelli with meatballs. Sounded good and difficult to screw up. Nope, they did. Hard to believe the Cav was homemade. Why, because all consistent size and length and tasteless. Also, cooked to the point that they were literally mushy starch. The meatballs were large and again barely edible. The gravy as I call tomato sauce tasted like out of a can. So, why did I go? Yelp reviews were close to 5 Stars. Seriously? Also, I saw they claim to use DeCecco Pasta, my favorite brand pasta after homemade. How this could possibly be anyone's favorite Italian Restaurant is very sad. I don't know how Yelp can improve real experiences, but maybe have a Yelp Pro where only mature diners can offer reviews. Absolutely wonderful Italian food, beats any restaurant in Little Italy in Cleveland. My wife and I go there once per week. John Zappitelli catered our wedding "reception" last year. Granted, it was during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. So, it was a very small group but the food was excellent as always. The service is very friendly and efficient. I recommend the deluxe pizza for takeout and the veal parmesan dinner for dining in the restaurant, but everything there is delicious! Also, try one of their Italian wines. read more
