We've had the ribeye which I love, it's full of flavor and you can also do it Florentine style which is my favorite... that has a little truffle on it and it is out of this world. We came to Zanata tonight wanting to have a nice dinner to celebrate a birthday. Didn't happen. First, I asked a question about their "Saucy Tuesday" and the server assumed that's what I wanted to order. Realizing the miscommunication, I corrected it after she was forcing me to order a salad. The wine was subpar. We ordered two appetizers. Food came. No silverware. I get up to go grab that because I work there, and didn't realize I needed to wear slip-proof shoes to walk through the restaurant. I went sliding across the floor into another couple's table. I'm COMPLETELY embarrassed and now in pain. I broke my back a year and a half ago so thanks for the pain. I will not be back. read more

Amazing food and service! We came in at shift change so we had to wait a little bit for our food, but our waitress comped a wine due to us waiting. We had the meatball lasagna, which according to my boyfriend, was the best lasagna he's ever had. I had the chicken with risotto and artichoke hearts. Disappointed. We made the 40-minute drive and arrived on a Friday night at 6:15. They don't take reservations and the wait time was 1 hour and 15 minutes. The hostess appeared already tired - checking in was an inconvenience to her. We got drinks at the bar, which was difficult because there was nowhere to stand without being in the servers' way. We sat on the benches at the front for the 1 hour 45 minute wait. I was nostalgic for the Zanata that used to be in downtown Plano on 15th Street. We went 8 to 10 times a year - loved the rooftop seating, the creative menu, the Z'affogato, the servers we got to know, and special drinks whipped up by the bartender based on a description of what we were in the mood for. But that location shut down after a kitchen fire and our hopes for the rumored McKinney or Frisco location were not realized. The Bruschetta plate was delicious and Crab Stuffed Avocados were good. The pizza didn't have a crisp enough crust to hold the toppings, but wasn't greasy. The worst dish I've had anywhere in quite some time was the Angry Shrimp and Grits. I love shrimp and grits, but this was a globby bowl with a monotone texture. I took home leftovers and examined it closer - the base was 50% grits (maybe) and 50% RICE. Did they run out of grits and make a substitute thinking no one would know? No dessert...I was looking for that delicious concoction of Z'affogato with the vanilla ice cream, espresso beans and side of hot espresso to pour over....but it was no longer on the menu. And though our waitress Sarah was great, a special request wouldn't be received well in the kitchen. Talking with others who know this place, they confirmed this is a good place for people who live close by or go some other time than a Friday or Saturday night. The restaurant seems to think people will continue enjoy the experience of waiting 1 to 2 hours for a table and serving an okay menu to a captive clientele, literally. It's not worth more than a 10 minute drive. The Plano Zanata of my memory will have to remain just that. read more

We decided to visit downtown Rockwall to check out the dining options for Saturday lunch. After checking the reviews we decided to try Zanata. I can say I'm glad the drive is not too far because we will be back. The service, with Sarah, was excellent. We started with the stuffed avacado with crab appetizer. It is a cooked appetizer so know that, but it was delicious. I had the Z Salad and half BLTA. Can't say enough about the salad with candied pistachios and figs. The sandwich had perfectly cooked bacon, perfect amount of avacado and you could taste the drizzle of quality olive oil with every bite. My wife had the pepperoni pizza. I tasted it. It was one of the best pizzas I've had flavor wise. Got a little soggy the more it sat but I didn't care. I can't wait to come back and try other menu items. read more

It would have to grow on me but it kind of tasted like it had a hint of arugula which is a flavor I explore more of. The croutons were yummy! I shamefully asked for more (yum). Bummer of a visit. Indifference would be the one word to describe the experience. Came in on a Thursday night around 7 pm. It was busy but no one was "in the weeds" so to say. Sat down at the bar and ordered an Old Fashioned. This is were I'll be harsh because it was the only item I received. The drink could have been described as lazy at best. Bourbon, ice, cherry, orange; in that order. (Not sure if bitters or some form of sweetener were even added) no muddling of fruits with sugar or a twisted rind around the rim to display an ounce of simple effort. Each of the other four "nice" restaurants in town would be happy to make a proper O.F. for you in my experience. The bartender dropped of the drink and carried on taking care of the other guests. This is were any form of the word "service" was halted in its tracks. Neither of the bartenders said another word to me until I asked for my check. I came into the restaurant, after a good day at work, expecting a nice Ribeye or an eloquent Sea Bass, a few drink and a good time. But no menu, conversation, or effort was ever extended. Service and bar-tending should be an easy, fun industry (especially with two bartenders behind the bar). "Hi, I'm (bartender's name here)! What brings you in tonight?" "Were you looking to grab a bite to eat or just a drink?" "Have you ever been in before?" "How's the Old Fashioned?" Each of these would have been EASY throwaway lines that you can feed to a guest. But No. No such effort was given. Again: neither of the bartenders said a word to me for 15 minutes while I finished my drink. Complete indifference. I asked for my check, paid, left. Stopped elsewhere on the way home to grab a burger. If either would have even set a menu in front of me without saying a word, I would have ordered because the food coming out of the kitchen looked beautiful. I may be picky, but I don't need to spend money in a restaurant that isn't going to try to give service. And I'm definitely not going to sit, drink, eat, and tip for ZERO service. I will try this place again. Will most likely sit at a table to avoid the laziness of the bartenders. I hope with better results... P.S. I would have given two stars for general ambiance if it weren't for a plain closed man (I would assume an owner or upper management) blowing a coaching whistle while behind the bar. First restaurant visit in Rockwall since the "pandemic", couldn't have been a better experience. We were seated immediately and Sarah, our server, took our drink order within a few seconds. They have removed seating to create space, but there were plenty of other diners at other tables and at the bar. Placed our drink and appetizer orders which were delivered expeditiously. We ordered two pizzas which were as good as always. Highly recommend Zanata! One other note, no one was wearing a mask, thankfully. The coronavirus won't be stopped by a mask anyway.
