Fable has been our favorite ever since it opened. The atmosphere, service, and quality of the food are solidly in the top three best places to eat in Rockwall for sure. For dinner you can't go wrong getting the 10 oz filet medium rare. It always comes out cooked to perfection. On this occasion we stopped by on a gorgeous Thursday afternoon around 2:30 and were delighted to sit out on the patio and choose from their brunch menu. Visited Fable and Fire recently and had a mixed experience. The service was friendly, but there were a few issues that kept the meal from being better. They were out of ice during our visit, which was disappointing. The bread served with the meal was quite hard and seemed stale, and the fries were noticeably over-salted. That said, the overall atmosphere was pleasant, and there were some positive aspects to the meal that helped balance things out. With a little more attention to food quality and preparation, this could be a much stronger dining experience. Hoping for a better visit next time. read more

What a restaurant serves as both an eatery and a bookstore - I'm in! Fable and Fire is a beautiful venue! The owners personally created/decorated it and it's the most inventing space I have been to that serves two purposes - eating and reading. Walls of books greet you as you enter, along with big wooden tables and chairs with a desert bar set up. Wonderful! And when you go into the restaurant, there comfy books lined up along the wall, more table and chairs in the middle, and a touch of home with couches and table in front of the bar. And I don't want o miss out in the description of the restrooms - because they are something to see. A sliding door for the restrooms are books that have been arranged so you feel like you're in a somewhat magical feeder with. Oils arranged in fascinating shapes. They also have a separate room for events and meets - and wow! It's gorgeous too! It truly made me want to host an event here just to experience this room. The food is delicious and the waitstaff are great at making you feel comfortable and welcome. This might have been my first time in this restaurant, but it's just the start of many visits here. read more

Service: We sat outside on the patio on a Friday evening. Our server was very friendly and even got us a mini fan to keep the bugs away! Food: The food was good, but very salty for my taste. The Coq au vin chicken was very tender. The roasted veggies and mashed potatoes tasted delicious with the gravy from the chicken. What a cool set up! I am glad I checked this coffee shop/restaurant out while visiting downtown Rockwall. I ordered a cinnamon vanilla latte, and OMG is was the bomb dot com. I haven't had such a good cup of coffee in a while. I definitely would order it again on my next visit. The ambiance of the shop is great and inviting. The barista was nice and helpful. The only thing I can't speak on is the restaurant side. I didn't try it, but from what I saw the restaurant is spacious, family friendly, and had a good number of guests so I imagine it has to be good. The only negative thing I would have to say is that I thought the pricing of their bakery items were kind of high. One slide of rocky road brownie was priced at $10. I think steep, but maybe worth it? Anyone who enjoys coffee though I'd recommend trying this place out. read more

I have been here 3 times. Can't get enough of their burger. It is delicious!!! So tasty! Best in town. I don't even have to look at the menu. Other items are enjoyed by others at my table. I have been meaning to check out this bookstore/coffeeshop/restaurant for a while. It's absolutely charming! The books feel more like decor, honestly, with shelves of used books that reach the ceiling and a bathroom hidden behind rolling "bookshelves" I didn't even make it to the restaurant portion, so I'll have to come back. Man, I have a love-hate relationship with this place. The atmosphere is great and the building and patio are super cool. The live music they sometimes have is always nice. The coffee drinks are always good, though the beans could be from a local roaster and could be a lot better, but it always tastes fine in the various lattes they offer. I can't drink caffeine anymore, so I can't even enjoy a good drip or espresso, because decaf is just rarely good enough to enjoy straight. My main complaint, though, is the food. It's always bland. And they always sprinkle chopped parsley on everything. Honestly, if the kitchen would just season the food, I would give this place five stars. The waitstaff, hosts, and coffee bar staff are always friendly, and the manager has always been super kind and accommodating, but somehow this place seems to be short on salt or just afraid to use it. And in things like pasta or eggs, it's just not the same to add it at the table. If they could improve the food with some flavor, this place would easily be five stars in my book. read more

Cozy vibes Absolutely wonderful experience at Fable & Fire yesterday for brunch. It was easily one of the coolest, local spots I've been to in a long time. As soon as you walk in, the atmosphere is just cozy, warm, and inviting. With plenty of books to choose from, this place triple-times it as a bistro, bar, and bookshop! The food was decadent: I got the gluten free pancakes which came with candied almonds, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and was topped with delicious syrup, a blueberry compote, and butter! It's 100% something I would get all over again! My wife got the crab cakes Benedict-- she is a seafood aficionado and says they're the BEST she has ever had. I'd take her word for it, yall! The coffee menu was so hard to choose from with so many delicious sounding choices. I ended up going with the Caribbean coconut latte. Green tea with coconut milk: amazing! The service is friendly as well a knowledgeable. They are also real accommodating-- I watched as they helped many people with seating issues or the baby shower that came in. They really go all out to make sure the customer is happy! And their bathrooms? Let me just say you have to see for yourself! I love this place! The crab cakes are outstanding! It is so cozy and relaxing. We took some pastries to go and they were delicious. The steak and chicken options were wonderful, as well. Even when busy, the staff is warm and friendly. I asked if the crab cakes could be made as a meal option rather than an appetizer. They were happy to accommodate me. Fable and Fire is by their own definition a "bookshop bistro". It is a community gathering spot if you will, that combines various forms of story telling. They are a Bookshop, Coffee Bar, Bistro, and Cocktail Bar, all wrapped into one place. They also have a decent vinyl selection here too. The vibe is really cool here. I love the book store/restaurant concept so much, it reminded me of DC! The restaurant is spacious, and they have a bar and patio as well! My family and I went for brunch here on a Sunday. We ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes, French toast stack, breakfast sandwich, smoke salmon Benedict, steak and eggs, and the turkey/chicken club. Everything tasted really yummy, and the buildout of the restaurant looks so good. I really enjoyed the bookshelf bathroom doors, amazing! It was our first time trying this place and I had a question about the lobster bisque cup vs bowl and he scoffed at me like I was supposed to know the price difference. Today, I had lunch at this restaurant. The ambiance was pleasant, and the Napa Valley chicken salad was absolutely delicious. As someone who's never been to this part of Rockwall, it felt like I stepped into a Texas "Stars Hollow". I visited with a friend on a Saturday night and this bar instantly felt whimsical and cozy. I tried an iced chai latte with oat milk, the Texas Haze cocktail, spinach and artichoke dip, and the classic waldorf salad. The drinks were excellent. The books and records are all for sale excluding the top shelves of each. I can't wait to return! read more

I hate to leave this review since all of our previous experiences at this establishment were excellent. We had booked a reservation for a large party (11 people) to celebrate Mother's Day today. Upon arrival my wife was told they were understaffed and running behind. It was an hour and 20 minutes after the designated time before the party was seated. When the food was finally brought out, an ordered well done hamburger was raw in the middle and my wife received half the food she ordered. Waiter said they could not replace the hamburger because the kitchen was running way behind. My wife inquired about talking to a manager and was told there wasn't one on site. Later she was told one of the owners was having to work in the kitchen. The restaurant would not provide telephone numbers for manager or owners my wife's whole family was disappointed with the whole experience. I'm not sure why anyone would go into one of the busiest restaurant days of the year and allow itself to be understaffed. Sadly, my wife has said we will not be going back and that's a shame as they are one of the better restaurants in this town read more

We started with calamari - amazing!!! Really fresh - they bread it themselves. I had the roasted chicken - it was good - but the mashed potatoes were even better. This is a review for the bookstore and cafe part only! Will need to return for dining at the restaurant at a future time as I saw they have mussels on the menu! We were able to find a table to settle down in the front and ordered hot drinks for us; chai latte with almond milk, americano, 2 herbal teas + an almond croissant. What a great place to spend a little time on a lazy afternoon and read and draw, my family really enjoyed it! The book selection is different from what you'd find at B&N. Was in town visiting a friend and she recommended this place. The food was very good. I got the breakfast sandwich and really enjoyed it. Over medium egg with bacon and cheese on a brioche bun? After an incredibly long day in the office, my boyfriend and I finished up work a bit early (I did, not him.. I deserved a glass of wine), and came across a cute dainty and expressive/art deco area in downtown Rockwall. We found Fable and Fire and I eyeballed the mussels and Cesar with salmon immediately. My boyfriend on the other hand was loving the sound of a wild mushroom flatbread. Everything was exquisite and surpassed what we even thought our taste buds would already obviously, love. Starting with the food: The mussels.. wow. So many adjectives to be used here. Mouthwatering, savory, tasty, delightful, décidant. Our previous server (didn't catch her name or I forgot it, I blame the wine lol), recommended us extra bread with the mussels, I'm on a slight no bread diet, but from what I tried it was so good I doused the bread in the base broth. Wish I drank it to be honest. Next we had the whipped ricotta, it was served cold and had pistachios and a honey base under the ricotta which gave it a subtle twist of sweetness. For our main dishes I devoured the cesar with salmon and my man enjoyed his highly craved wild mushroom flatbread. Next, the service and ambiance: The service was very attentive and insightful. Tyler ended up taking care of us after the shift swap and both her as well as the other young woman, were great. Via email communication, I was also told that she (the person sending the email) personally checked on me during the visit. Also false. Unfortunately, the poor reviews are true and continue to flood in. I planned to return soon with a +1, just to give it another try/have an additional opinion while dining, but refuse to patronize a business that is blatantly dishonest towards customers. If you like burnt biscuits this is your place. I ordered the chicken biscuit and it came out burnt. Yes, blacked out burnt. Not crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside...burnt. When I asked the waitress for a fresh biscuit, the chef decided to just scrap the black off of the biscuit. I did not eat the biscuit and I asked the waitress if that was the norm for the restaurant to just scrap off the burnt instead of fresh and her answer was....I guess so, they put all of the biscuits on the flat top. I did not eat the scraped off biscuit. My wife enjoyed her food and the decor and that's why I gave 2 stars. read more

Specifically the normal white bread used on the sandwiches makes the flavor mediocre and doesn't deserve the $15+ price. (There are more examples).
