It's books: the best and most current in religion, but 75% of the shop is other.... The other changes often and comes from everywhere. I called to see about getting my grandson's Bible repaired. It looked like he had played a few…read moregames of basketball with it. The back was off, but the inside Bible itself was intact. The price quoted was a lot with a 10 week wait! But after they explained what repair entailed and what to look for when purchasing a BIble that lasts, I understood. I didn't get the name of the person that spoke to me, but she had excellent customer service skills and she used them, taking time to explain the process so very kindly. I decided to just buy the kid a new Bible (one not glued, but sown together, her recommendation) but if I ever need a book repair service, they will surely get my business. And, I'll be sure to pass on their info. Customer service is a lost art, but not at The Book Doctor!

But if you are looking for a European time machine that will take a beloved book back to what it was or even better, this is the spot for you. We came to the Book Doctor with a small devotional, quite honestly a lost cause with no cover or binding and several severely damaged pages. We were hoping for some sort of cover and binding to preserve it since it is of great sentimental value and over 90 years old. What we received back was a gorgeous gem, a true made-to-order family heirloom. Not only was the cover beautiful, the binding is a work of art and pages we thought were lost forever were delicately and expertly restored. We stand amazed. Again, if you expect to do it on the cheap and have it by next week, forget it. But if the book in question matters to you and you budget for time and money, plan in advance, make an appointment with one of their experts, then expect the best. These are artisans who will pour all their skill and experience into your valued piece and devote entire days solely to its restoration.

They have not removed the crosses on top of The Church. If you are looking for theological books, Bible linguistics, or a great selection of Bibles, I would highly recommend this store. It is right by Dallas Theological Seminary, and right next door to a great coffee shop. The only draw back is that their hours should be longer. 9am-4pm, excluding Sunday.

However, I am giving DVD only 3 because their Customer Service is poor. On a recent purchase, I found typographical errors in a couple of their RVC Bibles and notified FDV. Their response was, "It's a problem with the printers, not us". Reminded that they sold me the Bible and I should be able to return it for a refund, they told me, "Of course" and finally provided return instructions. No such information was listed on the website or an email address. I find that odd and also unprofessional. Seems like FDV offers little or no customer service at th point of sale to help resolve such important issues.

I recently had a layover in this airport and was very excited to show my kid this awesome bookstore. As you may have imagined from my photos and videos, he absolutely loved it and found so many awesome books! Their selection is incredible and I really appreciate the wide variety they have (most airports only have the New York Times best sellers). Besides great books, they have a nice selection of stationery and other home products which can be great gifts to take back home. Overall, it's always a great experience, and I can't wait to swing by again during my next trip to DFW!

It's refreshing to see a space dedicated to books, especially in a fast-paced environment like an airport where most stores are focused on snacks or souvenirs. This shop is the perfect place to spend time while waiting for a flight, calm, cozy, and full of great reads. Whether you're looking for fiction, nonfiction, or just something to make the flight go by faster, there's a well-curated selection to choose from. I really hope more airports consider adding stores like this. It brings back the joy of browsing shelves and finding something unexpected, something we're seeing less and less of these days.

Deep Vellum Books is a gem. Let me tell you why…read more Deep Vellum Books is the storefront and headquarters of Deep Vellum Books & Publishing, a nonprofit literary arts organization and the largest publisher of literature in translation in the US (I did not know that!!!!). They stock their own titles as well as a curated selection of literary fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. I visited with my family (dad, stepmom, adult siblings, husband) last weekend, and we spent way more time in the store than we expected to given the store's size. It's not large, but the store is packed with interesting and unusual and harder to find titles. I started to read a book's dusk jacket flap blurb, which led to a conversation about the book with the staff in the shop. (I bought it, I already read it, I loved it.) It's that kind of store - I was walking around, reading blurbs out loud to my family - finding book after book that piqued my interest. I left with a book, my siblings with two or three each, and my dad with at least one. There were six of us, and we bought maybe 8 books. The staff working the day we were visited were incredible, chatting with us about books, telling us about Deep Vellum, and answering our questions about their events. It's clear that people who work at Deep Vellum love books and that always makes shopping at a bookstore more wonderful. (I'm not sure I would have taken home the book I did if I hadn't chatted with a store employee for a few minutes about it - it's a little out of my wheelhouse - but I loved and I'm so glad I picked it up). The store hosts book clubs which sound amazing. I mean how many bookstores offer a "Homer Out Loud" book club that meets to read Homer's epics out loud once a week!? Or has a book club called "Underdogs in Space" that meets once a month to talk about underread sci-fi books?! If you're in Deep Ellum and you love to read anything at all - make your way over to Deep Vellum. It's a great organization and a great bookstore. I couldn't love it more.

The ppl who worked there are incredibly knowledgeable and can offer wonderful suggestions if you tell them the genres/writers you like, no matter how niche! They had a lovely array of diverse books--they featured books, authors, languages, genres, and themes from all backgrounds. There were lots of translated books and books they published there. There's also a book club they host if you're interested in joining--they read underrated sci-fi works and discuss them on site. 12/10 would come back again :)
