Don't get the steak if you care how it's cooked. I ordered medium well, it came out medium rare. The waiter asked if I would cut into it to check other parts. I refused because I just needed to jiggle it with my fork and knife to see that it was underdone. They took it back and it came back half medium and half slightly over medium well. What's killing me is that I was told that they had checked it the second time and I could see several cuts on the steak (that's crazy that the chef/cook had to figure out doneness that way). But one of the openings in the steak was clearly medium, which he later affirmed. So, I'm not sure what they checked before! The non-bloody parts of the steak did taste good, though. So, if you don't care about doneness, go for it. Also, they had weird plating on the steak. Go for the board or go for plates but this awkward plates on a cutting board means you delicately try to not knock anything off. Pro tip: scrape it all onto the board The calamari was tasty except the plate was half fried zucchini. Slick move to get $16 out of me for a tempura plate. Otherwise, service was pretty slow although the restaurant was maybe 1/4 occupied. I had my doubts since the spot a couple doors down had a one-hour wait. Should've trusted my gut. read more

Had a cup of French Soup. This was so tasty and yummy. Then had the Ceasar salad with grilled chicken and I asked no salt or marinade. Sadly it came out with chicken on the salad and soaked in a salty marinade. So disappointed about this, especially since I asked for it not to be. The crepe itself was light with all the fillings and the mornay sauce adding extra flavor. The banana pudding french toast was delicious. It's a heavier dish with how sweet and decadent it was and one that can be shared with the table. Don't skip out on it though, I would just save it for dessert/end of the meal as opposed to having it be your main entree. Tried this place for the first time yesterday. The service was very slow as far as getting the food out. My husband and I completely finished eating our entree before our son's piece of French toast came out so that was a bit strange. The prices are pretty expensive as well. The food was absolutely delicious though. Everything was exquisite and flavorful. The ham and cheese croissant was amazing, but the French toast was even better! Once again this was a fantastic breakfast. If you are heading to the farmers market this is a great place to stop by I had the crepe this time with ham, Swiss cheese and spinach. Fable & Fire bookstore, bar, coffee counter & restaurants also popular. And there are others on the Rockwall Courthouse Square. Parking around here is the tricky part. Locals have the edge with time & experience. Once you get parked, your entry into Belle is always pleasant, with a very helpful & pleasant staff. We started the day, a brunch, on our wedding anniversary at this restaurant. What a gem of a place! I've been to the South of France, not Paris. It felt like the minute we stepped into the bistro, we were transported to France! The staff was friendly, the food delicious, it was charming and romantic. A good-feeling place. Even though it was a brunch, I ordered French onion soup with a light, flaky puff pastry! Delicious ! My husband order pancakes and bacon. The coffee and capacinno were very good too. Saturday night dinner at Belle Vie Bistro was very nice! I honestly would give it about 4.5 stars, not a 5, as that implies perfection. But they are definitely making the effort to deserve respect. First, we were seated promptly and our server was very responsive, so much so that we hadn't even had a moment to peruse the wine menu before she arrived. I would recommend that the servers be trained to bring water and the bread and butter without asking in order to offer the guests a chance to settle in for a moment. (Fresh french bread and good butter, by the way. I don't usually indulge in that, but I had 2 slices.) And if a guest asks to sample a wine, the answer is always "Yes." They are going to order wine, they just don't know if it will be that one. Both my wife and I started with side salads, which were great. Very fresh greens, and dressings that were obviously made in-house and delicious (awesome lemon vinaigrette on the bistro salad and a truly great Caesar dressing.) I should mention that their wine selection is made up of good labels you probably drink regularly, with a few neat additions that are worth a try. My wife ordered the grilled salmon cooked to her preference, and it was served that way. She really liked the lemon sauce with which it was served, along with risotto and al dente veggies including squash, zucchini and carrots (well seasoned.) I had the duck confit, and it too, was very good. Mashed potatoes made in house (again, well seasoned) with the same grilled vegetables. I appreciate many things about this restaurant. Frankly, I don't understand why it wasn't packed. The lighting is nice, the music is just perceptible so as not to be intrusive. The service is very attentive, and the food is really good. The price point is reasonable. The most expensive meal on the menu is about $35, but they offer plenty of great options for less. Having written a brunch review for this restaurant before on Google, I noticed that they take the input from their clients seriously, and I appreciate that. This is a place that is putting in the work, and it shows. I forgot to mention that they have a barista on staff even in the evenings, and pastries that are made by an actual French pastry chef (I indulged in the Croissant Aux Aumandes on our previous visit, and it is absolutely legit.) Parking on the square in Rockwall can be an issue, and Belle Vie is in the middle of the block, so maybe it is somewhat overlooked, but it is definitely worth a visit. I'll be going back pretty soon for the lamb at dinner time. I also want to try their French onion soup and French dip. You should go. You won't be disappointed. read more

Over priced for the food and service. Had to wait over one hour for food, which was brought out staggered, one plate at a time. One meal which was wrong after pointing out to the server at ordering what exactly I wanted. Then kept waiting another 20 minutes for correct order, while everyone else at table (birthday celebration) were finished correct meal was brought out. My husband's plate was being handed to him across the table and the ketchup and mustard spilled all over his shirt. We had no napkins and silverware and had to ask and they were dirty. Pancake ordered was burnt and rubbery, unable to bite into. Should have had much better service for the premium prices. read more

A Fantastic Restaurant Still Battling an Old Issue I absolutely love this restaurant. The food is fantastic, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the added bakery counter so cute and the service is some of the best in town--every server is friendly and attentive, making each visit a great experience. It's easily one of my favorite spots. That said, there's one lingering issue that I can't ignore: a subtle but persistent odor, likely coming from the drains or bathrooms. It's the same issue that was present when this space was Fatted Calf, and honestly, I feel like it contributed to that restaurant's downfall. Unfortunately, it seems like this new spot is still dealing with whatever plumbing or drainage problem existed back then. They try to cover it up with strong cleaners, but it only makes it more noticeable--no one wants to smell that while eating. I truly hope they're able to resolve this because everything else about the restaurant is exceptional. If they can finally fix this long-standing issue, they'd be absolutely perfect, and I want to see them succeed! read more

We were ready to order since we had already being sitting for 20 minutes and the waiter still wasn't ready. We finally got yo order and one of our plates was wrong. To me the food is the most important and in that regard Belle vie bistro did a great job at a competitive price. The food was delicious for what you pay for and would definitely eat here again. Both the wife and I loved the crab cakes the most, seriously you need to order them. At worst the food could be a 4.5/5 maybe a 4/5 depending on someones pallete. Ignore the other reviews that focus on service or trying only one item etc. For our visit the service was great, don't be entitled and you will be treated well. My husband and I decided to try Belle Vie Bistro for the first time for Sunday brunch and it was definitely a disappointment. We ordered mimosas and they brought flutes with what looked like a rose champagne but no orange juice. I have never had a mimosa made with a rose champagne so I was surprised. We told the waitress that there was no orange juice and she checked with the bartender. Orange juice was added but when we took a drink it was completely flat so we sent it back again. The waitress was very nice and opened a new bottle which had plenty of bubbles but didn't improve the taste. Needless to say the mimosas were the worst I have ever had. I got the quiche florentine and it was pretty tasteless while my husband got an omelette. The omelette had no cheese inside, only unmelted cheese on the top. The food took about 30 minutes to come out which considering what we ordered was too long. Unfortunately, we won't be back. I would rather not spend money on bad food. read more

If you' appreciate good food, prepare to be pretty disappointed. The menu consists of nothing but pre-made frozen ingredients that every cheap aspiring restauranteur buys from the supply company all to provide a lengthy menu of crap. It has everything BUT French cuisine. Just another typical Rockwall tasteless, bland, fake food hole in the wall. Wait staff had zero enthusiasm, suggestions, or recommendations. For a relatively new spot in the area you'd think they would want to try a bit harder on the menu items. Train your staff on whatever mission statement or motto you have for your business and what sets you apart. (This is your value proposition!) Narrow down the menu to fresh and easy to replicate dishes that are actually good. (While you're at it, proof it for typos and structure) Focus on genuine French cuisine, don't waiver, it's the only thing setting you apart. Best of luck! Hope you're still open in 2 years.
