Well right off the bat I liked the setup of this place the most. Kinda reminiscent of a BBQ joint in the south. Big sign on a pole out front, bunch of picnic tables on the lawn. Right on the bike path too, awesome place to stop on the ride. Did a 2 meat combo with Brisket and Ribs, partner tried the smoked turkey which I guess is a newer thing for them. Owner tried it awhile ago and figured it was a nice thing to add to the menu. They were out of Beans that day so my 2 sides were Mac and Cheese and Slaw. 10 different meats to choose from! I don't think I've seen that before. No cornbread, No homemade beverages. Brisket looked excellent, very juicy with a lot of bark to it. In the mouth though I didn't get as much flavor as I was expecting. Another bite had much more flavor than the first. And it wasn't like I only had the muscle on the first bite and the second bite had the bark and fat. In general I'd have to say the taste was just Beef, like a roast beef or a pot roast. Smoke was there but it was a different type of smoke I don't think I've had before. Still the texture was pretty good. Ribs looked great on the plate but had a lot of glaze sauce on top which is usually a concerning sign to me. They were definitely on the sweet side with their house sauce but it almost tasted like some of the sweetness was in the meat, maybe from some injected marinade or something. Mac and Cheese came prepackaged in a cup which is a big No No in my book. Shell pasta. Interestingly to me the sauce was like a weird cross between a cheese goop grocery store hot bar style and a nice gritty homemade style. Part of me wants to believe it was baked but either way it was actually pretty good. Coleslaw was surprisingly good too. It looked like it was going to be one of the typical store bought soupy slaws but the cabbage was still crunchy and the vinegar was nice and sweet. House sauce was very sweet. Spicy Sauce I could barely tell was spicy, if I didn't know any better I would have said this is the house sauce with a tiny bit of zing to it. All in All the place is pretty good. Friendly owner, good location, food is good. Just lacking those little things that make a place a 5 star in my eyes. But I'd go back and try it again.

This is some of the best bbq I've had, definitely the best in the area! The mac and cheese is one of my favorites. I love the outdoor space they've added and how they've been handling things this past year. The pulled pork and pulled chicken were both delicious! Try the spicy bbq sauce, too.

Fantastic! So happy we decided to stop here after dropping our son off at camp. The pork belly burnt ends and the super-flavorful collards were the highlights (though it was all good).

2 meat combo -- pulled pork & brisket, at Zach and Lou's Barbeque in Torrington, CT.

Had a late lunch at Zach & Lou's Barbeque today, it was my 2nd visit to this establishment. 1st time was about 3 or 4 months ago, I had ordered the 2 meat combo of pulled pork and brisket that time. I thought the pulled pork was decent, but I was underwhelmed with the brisket -- it was bland, flavorless & lifeless. I had been wanting to give Zach and Lou's another try, so today I ordered the 2 meat combo again, this time I went with the 4 St. Louis ribs and the smoked sausage. Ribs had been over-cooked, they were bland and extremely chewy, and a bit tough. Smoked sausage was obviously not made in house, it didn't have much more flavor than a hot dog. Mayo-based coleslaw was average, but I did like the mac & cheese ( I prefer the style they serve, it's not creamy). Overall though, another disappointing experience. My standards are high because I lived in the South and have eaten some great Q down there (see my list, The Northern AL Bar-B-Q Trail), but the barbeque served at Zack & Lou's is even low on the scale for Connecticut standards. I can guarantee the fellow Yelpers who have given this business a 5 Star rating have never travelled to the South extensively. Needless to say, can't find a reason for another return visit for subpar Q. I'm moving on down the road.

Small portions.... come on Lori. Get the double brisket with 2 sides it feeds 2-3 easily.

Here's the issue. So. Soo soooooo flavorless and bland. It tasted mostly like bologna. Sandwich was ~30 layers of ham. 1 very thin layer of mortadella. 1 very thin layer of salami. Lettuce, tomato, onion. And if the vinegar was used, it was completely without flavor or color. I'm used to a couple more meats than that and occasionally a meat get la a layer or two more than another. But it was essentially a ham and cheese grinder with a thin garnish of salami and mortadella for $17.99+tax. I love Italian combos, this one broke my heart and I debated all day whether to leave this review. Guys.... If you're going to charge top dollar for a sub, you gotta make an effort on quality.

A hidden Gem We went…read moreto The Store in Torrington, CT and LOVED it! When we pulled up, Roger (the owner) greeted us outside and directed us where to park. For a second, I honestly thought he was just a friendly guy drinking a beer in the lot, being helpful. Nope he's the owner, and yes, he sets the tone immediately. Inside, the bar was big, comfy, and had that "you're one of us now" vibe. The atmosphere? Awesome. The food? Even better. And the people? REAL. Refreshingly real. Amy was our waitress and we absolutely adored her. My husband is a wise-ass (he thinks it's charming), and she gave it right back to him without missing a beat. My kind of woman. We started with the shrimp cocktail--delish. Caesar salad--yummy. But the star of the night? The prime rib, sitting proudly over garlic mashed potatoes. I still think about it. Honestly, I may have dreams about it. We live in Westport where restaurants are gorgeous... and often crazy expensive and just a tad snotty. The Store felt like we were dining with friends we actually liked. We even got to meet Roger's wife, Dena, who is an absolute gem. She told us how the restaurant got its name a regular at her old place would always tell his wife he was "heading to the store" when he was really heading to the bar. Iconic. I love her already. Of course, I bought a sweatshirt. (I'm a dirty martini girl; I needed merch.) We were headed to the Warner to see a comedian, but honestly, dinner was the warm-up act and it hit just as hard. It's about an hour from Westport--but worth every mile. We're already planning our next ride up to Torrington. This place is a blast!

They bake everything in house, with specials on some days (e.g. Sweet Bun Sunday). The selection is vast, especially considering that everything is scratch made in-house. Aromas are enticing! We picked up an orange cranberry dream bar, studded with plenty of white chocolate chips, coconut, and dried cranberries, topped with orange cream cheese frosting and more dried cranberries. It was *enormous* and easily served as dessert for four. Also in our order: a streusel topped blueberry cake, as moist as could be and filled with fresh blueberries. It was also generously proportioned, large enough for at least two. We didn't try any salads, breakfast platters, or sandwiches on this visit, but they looked fantastic, based on what I saw on other customers' plates. I found that the super friendly owners are of Lebanese descent when I asked about the Lebanese baklava at checkout -- and evidently, they sometimes have Lebanese meat pies on offer! I cannot wait to come back to try every Lebanese food item they have, since my family is passionately fond of the cuisine (and really, everything else, too). I had no idea such riches could be found in Torrington! You can't throw a rock without hitting an Italian-American in this town -- not that I would ever throw a rock at an Italian-American :) -- but this is the first I've heard of a Lebanese-American contingent in these parts. I liked the look of Hibachi Express so I decided to do a full order this time and see what's up. I can honestly say, best hibachi style food I have had EVER!! I started with the Wonton Soup. The broth is delicate and savory. I wish there was a bit more filling in the wontons but still a very strong solid start. If this was the entry, I can't wait for the spicy miso. The golden fingers are finally ones I enjoy. The outside was not too crispy but I was getting take out so that is expected. I'm sure they were crispy coming out of the oil. Beautiful cooked tender chicken and a perfect batter to meat ration. Next I had the Bento BBQ chicken. Wow!! Amazing flavor. It is an Asian lite BBQ taste and not sticky sweet. Finally, a place that gets the texture right. The chicken is very tender and flavorful and actually has a mouth feel like chicken. Some places mistake tender for mush, not here. My mom ordered the house chow mein fun. The vermicelli was soft, flavorful and perfectly cooked. Plenty of meat inside as well. The chef nailed the balance between cooked noodles but not wet noodles. Amazing dish!! She also ordered a side of hibachi chicken. Again, perfect flavor, tender and great portion. We also grabbed an Atlanta roll. I'm not a cream cheese fan in sushi but this worked. I will gladly try their other offerings next time. The location is very clean and mom and son offer great service. You can order on-line if that is your preference. I will be back and Hibachi Express is my new go-to. I'm very glad I found this restaurant. I would gladly advise even the pickiest person to eat here.
