I tried Hibachi Express for the second time today. When I first went, I ordered a shrimp tempura roll but I was grabbing that as a quick eat because my main focus was the Thai place next door. I liked the look of Hibachi Express so I decided to do a full order this time and see what's up. I can honestly say, best hibachi style food I have had EVER!! I started with the Wonton Soup. The broth is delicate and savory. I wish there was a bit more filling in the wontons but still a very strong solid start. If this was the entry, I can't wait for the spicy miso. The golden fingers are finally ones I enjoy. The outside was not too crispy but I was getting take out so that is expected. I'm sure they were crispy coming out of the oil. Beautiful cooked tender chicken and a perfect batter to meat ration. Next I had the Bento BBQ chicken. Wow!! Amazing flavor. It is an Asian lite BBQ taste and not sticky sweet. Finally, a place that gets the texture right. The chicken is very tender and flavorful and actually has a mouth feel like chicken. Some places mistake tender for mush, not here. My mom ordered the house chow mein fun. The vermicelli was soft, flavorful and perfectly cooked. Plenty of meat inside as well. The chef nailed the balance between cooked noodles but not wet noodles. Amazing dish!! She also ordered a side of hibachi chicken. Again, perfect flavor, tender and great portion. We also grabbed an Atlanta roll. I'm not a cream cheese fan in sushi but this worked. I will gladly try their other offerings next time. The location is very clean and mom and son offer great service. You can order on-line if that is your preference. I will be back and Hibachi Express is my new go-to. I'm very glad I found this restaurant. I would gladly advise even the pickiest person to eat here. read more

First time trying this local take out spot (there are tables to dine in... but vibe is definitely geared towards take out). We got the cheese wontons to start (regular crab ragoons but very tasty). We also tried the hibachi beef and broccoli and hibachi general tsao. The onion soup that came with those was a tasty broth. Also came with salads just like when you go to hibachi. The main entrees were great portions but we are big fans of the flavor and the fried rice was amazing! (Definitely will get extra of that next time). Hibachi chicken was slimy. No flavor in rice. Soup tasted like hot dirty water. Salad was just shredded lettuce and dressing . Very disappointed, I wanted to support this family business but two hibachi orders went in the garbage. Had the sushi a few times which is hit or miss. read more

They are amazing. We get food from here quite often. It is our goto sushi place even. Be it lunch or dinner, I have not been disappointed once. All at great prices too. Our favorites are the Fire Dragon roll and the Dragon King roll but their more recent addition of their take on a Drunken Noodle is a family favorite too now. You cannot beat this place for affordability, the food is very good (maybe one step under Fuji quality), but service is friendly, fast and we haven't had a bad meal there yet. It never is very full, customer-wise, but many people running in and out for take-home. Maybe because it's small....but quaint. They have a spicy salmon roll that will make you wanna slap your mama! Hibachi Express is your basic brightly-lit takeout restaurant, serving sushi, rolls, and the namesake hibachi. Open just three weeks when we ate there, it is clean and the service was speedy. We tried the gyoza (average), spider roll (very good), crispy spicy salmon roll (average), and sumo roll (way too much cucumber that drowned out the fish). Still a little hungry, we ordered the rather good salmon hibachi. The veggies were crisp an the fried rice less oily than is often the case. Hibachi Express is a welcome addition to Asian row, joining the wonderful Vientane and Chinese takeout on Torrington's west side. read more

This restaurant stands out from the slew of Chinese restaurants in Torrington. A majority of the restaurants look and taste the same. This one sets itself apart with better quality and choices. The food definitely tastes more homemade and authentic. The portions are pretty large and we can sometimes take some home for later. The prices are good considering portion size and quality. The combos like habachi chicken come with the chicken, rice, vegetables and your choice of soup or salad. Both the salad and onion soup are great! The staff is very nice and accommodating! read more

Wow is all I can say. First time ever eating from hibachi express yesterday. Decided to get some appatizers and hibachi lunch specials and few sushi rolls. All to go because I needed to bring lunch to my husband and had my 3 yr old with me. First walking in I was greeted by smiles. The two ladies working up front explained the menu and showed me their amazingly priced lunch specials. I wanted to try almost everything lol. I ordered egg rolls, cheese wonton, and shrimp tempura for appatizers. All where so good but the shrimp tempura omg! 4 big shrimp tempura and they where so crispy and hot. The shrimp was tender too. I ordered 2 California rolls and they made them right in front of me fresh. We also tried the hibachi steak lunch special and hibachi shrimp lunch special. Now this is where it sets them above and beyond the rest. Each of those meals where $7.25 and I don't know how they do it. The shrimp where huge and plenty, seasoned perfectly on a beautiful bed of zucchini, onion, carrots, broccoli and fresh bell mushrooms. The sauce was great and the side of hibachi rice it comes with is cooked to the right consistency and its a pretty big container too. The steak was delicious. My husband said it was cooked perfectly and so moist. Also ordered a side of hibachi rice for my picky 3 yr old and it was $3.95 for a large takeout container full. Every sauce was included and not forgotten for anything. It one of my pet peeves when I get takeout and they forget a sauce. It's a bummer. They remembered all 8 that went with each thing ordered. In the end she packed me up with chop sticks, silverware and napkins. I could not have been more pleasantly surprised and it superceded my expectations. Not only the food but the cost. What would have normally cost me $70 or more for OK Japanese food was $42 and we got so much food we at lunch and dinner all 4 of us. I walked out with 2 bags of takeout that was exceptional. I am excited to try it again.... Maybe tommorow! read more

it's so good! they have great prices, and great customer service. I LOVE their sushi. You can actually see it being made, so you know that it's fresh and well made. The only thing is there meals are a little salty for me and they don't offer delivery. Other than that, their rice is fantastic, and their prices are just as great. read more

The service was quick and friendly, and we enjoyed the onion soup, a few appetizers, and sushi rolls. The hibachi dishes would have been perfect if not for the excessive salt. I love Hibachi Express! I always go during lunchtime with my husband and we split the 3 sushi roll lunch special which is an amazing deal!!! We get so much sushi and a yummy little bowl of soup and leave with full bellies foe only about 13 dollars! Not to mention the sushi is made fresh right while you are waiting. Also I have tried the Hibachi general tso chicken which is easily the best I've ever had! Absolutely recommend for anybody who is on a budget and loves sushi! read more
