Our first time EVER trying this place for dinner was yesterday. my fiancé ordered a California roll, and habachi chicken & Steak combo. I had the Habachi Shrimp & Scallops. randomly near the end of the meal I told her I felt like I was about to puke for a second, but the feeling went away after finishing my water. fast forward to this review: my fiancé has been sick from food poisoning, puking periodically throughout the night, and is still to this moment upon me writing this review. To be safe, we will not ever be coming back to this place again. I love that for the dinner menu they give you noodles AND fried rice, generous amounts of veggies and meat! I always order takeout but the service has always been great when it's time to pick up. I am a bit of a food snob, & the menu was worded crudely, so I wasn't sure what to think. However, I was pleasantly suprised. We ordered a seafood roll, a fancy roll & a sweet potato roll & split them. All 3 were good, but the Seafood roll was my favorite. My companion preferred the Fancy roll & we both enjoyed the sweet potato. Our waitress Grace was a pip! She is a fashion design student & spoke perfect English, just very very fast. She is a gem. Pulled in on this Tuesday afternoon to an empty parking space right in front of the place. Went inside around 12:30, and the place was slow. What happened? Years ago I came in here and this was the place to be. It was jamming. It was packed, it was hopping! I ordered a martini and a number 13 lunchbox, along with the Philadelphia roll. The miso soup was delicious that came with the lunch. My number three lunchbox also consisted of seaweed salad, a crab salad, a shrimp roll, three hand rolls that were salmon, squid (I think) , and tuna. Also accompanying this dish was sticky rice with a crunchy topping. I also ordered a Philadelphia roll, which had the cream cheese in it, because I hadn't had one in a long time and just had to try it The number 13 lunchbox for $15 was totally worth the money. It was delicious and served quickly, I liked the Philadelphia roll, even though I'm no big fan of cream cheese on rolls. The pomegranate martini was solid. Oh my God I could sit here all day Good. This was a great experience, and reasonably priced. This place is handicap accessible all the way around, including ramps and bathroom. I look forward to returning here. I'm just surprised that it wasn't busier than it was because this place is really good. So if you're in the Unionville area, and looking to go to lunch, consider this place. read more

Takeout review: I was celebrating my birthday and I was craving sushi. My husband and I had takeout from here and the sushi was fresh and delicious. We ordered online and pickup was easy. We ordered nine rolls; yes, we love sushi and we can eat! The prices were comparable to other sushi restaurants. Growing up in the Farmington Valley in the 1970s...Unionville was kind of run down. Friendly Pizza (Greek pizza), Ryan Pharmacy, and a Friendly's really... it's a bit more hip out of the Myrtle Mills era. My late Dad would come eat lunch at Yume after fly fishing...and in honor of him I continue to visit Yume w Mom when I get back to Connecticut. Very fresh sushi.. there is also the hibachi theatrics for those craving the onion volcano (I don't know how to tell these folks that they are late to the party... this was popular 50 years ago at Benihana...). There is also a cocktail lounge on the other side.. Staff is not Japanese but this is a non-issue...the sushi is fresh which is the most important thing...pleasant people too who run it. read more

So last week, I went to a national chain for hibatchi and it was fine but missing that charm that Yume has. The Hibatchi really is top shelf here and has everything you want if you want hibatchi. Good portions. Noodles and rice included. Lots of veggies. Two shrimp. Sake squirted into your mouth. Catching flying squash in your mouth too. It was entertaining but the food was quite good too. It's easy to take this place for granted but teens love this place and they did a really nice job for a birthday group. read more

We have been going Yume since it opened in 2010. We used to love it and it was one of our "go-to" places. Sadly both the food and service have gone down hill. Over the last year, items have been missing from our carryout orders. Back in the day, the owner always made it right with a commensurate credit. The last two times items were missing, there was no apology or appropriate follow-up and a nominal credit. Tonight's order also included a Rainbow Roll that fell apart. :( read more

A lot of what other customers have commented here we experienced as well. Ok food, rather flavorless. And bad service. Really bad. We arrived to celebrate our children's' multi-year work towards achieving their black belts. They came in the restaurant flush with happiness at their achievement. Our youngest was really excited to see "the onion train" and get the full experience of the hibachi table. First we were told that we couldn't sit at the hibachi table because we didn't make a reservation. They sat us at a booth. Two of the cooking tables sat empty. We asked the staff if we could possibly switch to hibachi because the kids were celebrating and looking forward to this at the end of the day. They conferred, and one of the women agreed and pointed us to a table in the back. On one side of the table was a party of ten. On the other half, were the four of us. When the waitress arrived, she took our orders and disappeared. After our drinks & appetizers came, it all went downhill. After about fifteen minutes, it was obvious that the chef had no plans to actually cook at our table. The performance, the table excitement, all that was taking place across at the other table. For us, the chef dropped all the dirty dishes and scraps from the main surface and kept his back to us the entire time. The kids watched as he lit the cooking surface on fire, did the onion train, and all the other exciting things for the other people. My youngest asked, "When is he going to do anything for us? Why do we have trash on our table?" The chef turned around periodically to give us food that he was cooking on the other table, but that was pretty much it. We approached one of the younger waitresses with blue hair and told her what was going on. She said, "Sorry, but there's nothing we can do." I asked her if she really believed there was nothing that could be done. She repeated the sentence. Eventually after flagging down our waitress several times unsuccessfully, we caught her eye as she was joking with the next table. We explained the situation and she said that she could understand, but we didn't have a reservation. I couldn't understand what that had to do with the situation at hand. My wife asked if it was a problem, why not tell the customers upfront rather than have them start their meal only to realize you'd be neglected the whole time? At this point, a guy came by to clear our plates and offer us to-go containers. He left a bag of trash next to us on overflow chairs. The waitress offered us tempura ice cream, which the kids accepted, but still said they wished we didn't have the "trash table". Seeing the bag of trash next to us, I thought it was a pretty fitting description. Any good restaurant would never do this, or if they did, would offer to comp the meal to some extent. Had we known the night would turn out this way, we probably would have stayed in the booth and called it a night. Since we didn't, we were left with a hefty three digit bill for our night and trouble. 2 stars for one waitress who noticed our empty glasses and took the effort to bring us water, and another for the halfhearted recognition of the issue after the fact. read more

Yume is our local go to for quick sushi/dinner. The location has ample seating and also does carry out. I feel like the menu is very vast- so many options. I had the chicken & salmon teriyaki dinner box. Yum!!! The Miso soup is just ok. Not the best I have ever had. The house salad is great- cold iceberg lettuce and ample dressing. The shumai was so good. Nice and crispy I didn't want to share with my date! The California roll was very fresh and delicious. The fried rice was also good and not too much. The chicken was a very thin breast. It was just ok. The salmon was better, in my opinion. My date has the sushi/sashimi for one. I had to sample for the sake of this review! It was delicious and such a beautiful presentation. He also enjoyed a Japanese beer which was so good! We'll be back soon! read more

Fairly average Japanese food in the Farmington valley. Ordered the other day with my parents - the three of us shared a beef teriyaki lunch box and a chicken hibachi lunch special. Total was around $22 or so. Both came with some veggies and the beef teriyaki came with a few pieces of a California roll and shumai. We had miso soup and mushroom soup with our orders as well. Everything was fine but underwhelming. The chicken in the hibachi and the beef in the teriyaki was good, along with the dipping sauces that they provided, but many elements were just average. The veggies were bland with what was clearly jarred sauce. The California roll was unimpressive, the salad was wet, and the soup was flavorless. With that said, it was a decent amount of edible food for the price we paid. I wouldn't come running back by any means, but it was fine for a quick and inexpensive lunch. read more

I barely ever leave negative review but I actually feel so scammed I feel obliged to... I got beef negimaki and the ratio of beef to scallion was way off. All the negimaki I've ever seen/had has been a strip of meat (either chicken or beef) rolled into a cylinder shape, with a little bit of scallion in the middle. The negimaki I got from Yume was a giant ball of scallion with a tiny sliver of meat around the outside. The scallion is supposed to garnish the meat, not the other way around. Payed 22 bucks to eat lumps of green onion for dinner :( Not my first time being let down by this place either, I should've known better than to go back but it's so close I just figured I'd give them another chance. Ordered online for a pickup of 25 minutes out. 1hr 20mins later no food. Poor excuses from the front end. People dining in claimed almost 2hrs to get their food.
