I've been wanting to experience Yvonne's for the longest time, so I thought, why not finally go for my birthday? Unfortunately, the experience didn't start the way I expected. My birthday was noted on the reservation, but there was no acknowledgment of it when I arrived. I'm not expecting a grand celebration, but for a place with such a classy, trendy, upscale reputation, I expected a warmer welcome and at least some acknowledgment of the occasion. To me, service and hospitality are a huge part of the dining experience, and that initial welcome just didn't set the tone I was hoping for on my birthday. A heads-up if you're driving: there isn't parking immediately nearby, so expect to walk a little. Also, pay attention once you're on the street because GPS can be a little misleading when trying to locate the entrance. Thankfully, our server, Alexia was great! She was very kind, sweet, and attentive. I actually had to tell her myself that it was my birthday, and once she knew, she did what was necessary to acknowledge it and make the occasion feel a little more special. I really appreciated her for that. The food was good as well. I didn't end up trying any of their cocktails, which is unusual for me, especially during a birthday dinner. By that point, the overall experience just hadn't put me in the celebratory mood I had expected when I chose Yvonne's for the occasion. Maybe my expectations were higher because this was somewhere I'd wanted to visit for so long, but hospitality matters to me, especially at an establishment like this. Amanda helped turn things around, and the food was good, but the overall experience still left me disappointed. Will I come back? I'm honestly unsure.

Great ambiance and cocktails. I did not want to kill the vibes by taking flash photography. Check out the place yourself!

I was very excited to go to Yvonne's, so it was a bit disappointing that it was a less-than-stellar experience. The food was very creative and the service was good, the carrots and mushrooms were favorite dishes, but it was a bit marred by many of the dishes being way too salty. I'm generally not too sensitive to salt, and it wasn't just me, it was all of my party who felt that way. I understand the desire of bars to push it a bit on the salt, and it would be one thing if it was one dish, but basically every savory dish we ordered was painfully salty. I also ordered a cocktail that came with a bergamot flower garnish that was pretty and aromatic, but unpleasantly stuck in the teeth. Unpleasant to the point I seriously considered asking them to take it back, strain it, and serve it again. Ultimately I didn't, and eventually it improved when the garnish settled on the ice. The carrot cake hit a similar note, really quite good, but I thought it could have done more with less (it had icing sprinkles and candied nuts and ice cream _and_ edible flower petals). Okay, that last bit is more of an aesthetic nitpick than the stuff I said earlier. The decor and setting was a stand-out, I really liked their choices for the place-settings and tableware. It's certainly very pretty, and my main complaint aside, I liked the food. Hopefully something was just off that night.

Updating my review from 5 to a 2 star. Yvonne's has the worst reservation system among the fine dining restaurants in the Greater Boston region. After numerous attempts dealing with the reservation managers (through its phone system) and despite receiving confirmation from the manager via its text messaging communication, the restaurant still failed to honor my reservation. Not to mention, upon pressing * on their phone to be connected to someone, it hangs up right away. Such incompetency is surreal. In fact, the reservation manager -- behind the phone messaging service -- is so incompetent that the staff at the check in agreed with us that they are indeed incompetent. Surely, Yvonne's is doing fine with its continuous pouring of new customers -- but it is known amongst previous regular customers that it starts to handle things in haphazard manners. Such carelessness, non bothering, laxing attitude will make such business fail. And Yvonne's is not immune to such failure.

Beautiful ambience, wonderful service and delicious food. The moment you walk into this space, you know it's going to be nothing short of mesmerizing. The service was super attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. And then there's the food. The deliciously fresh, perfect presented food that just melts in your mouth. Yvonne's is an absolute must if you're in Boston.

Such tasty food and impeccable ambience. Service was great and timely. For a nice meal out ordering 4 dishes and drinks, we were in and out in 1 hour! We loved the lobster dumplings and tuna crudo. I tried one of their seasonal cocktails which was definitely good but not mind-blowing like my friends saids- maybe should have stuck to the tried and true cocktail menu.

Looks dreamy but leaves a lot to desire This wasn't my first time at Yvonne's (it was my second) so I went in knowing the vibe. I was there celebrating a friend's birthday and left with a sour taste. First and most important, this place is not inclusive, despite them asking in advance if anyone has allergies or dietary restrictions. One of my friends had restrictions and we were told the chef refused to accommodate them. Let me add that it was simply to omit an item from a dish and we were told "the chef refuses to serve this meal without that item". She then asked about omitting the sauce from another dish and was told the same. She literally had to sit there and watch the rest of us eat all night. For a place at this price point, that's unacceptable. Yes, the restaurant is beautiful, but the layout is a mess. The entrance area is very dimly lit, the seating is extremely tight, and I couldn't even lean back in my chair without getting hit in the head every time someone walked by (which was constant). The back bar area is another issue people are seated but also standing directly in front of the bar, so trying to walk through means repeatedly saying "excuse me" just to move. Service didn't help. Servers would come out of nowhere and grab plates without saying excuse me, which felt abrupt and rude. The bathroom, very cutesy and all but was poorly maintained, the four stalls that it does have two stalls did not have toilet paper, which caused a line. The food itself was underwhelming and the portions were small, I know I know, it's tapas style but seriously? After spending more than $600 (we were 8), I still left hungry and ended up at McDonald's afterward. That pretty much sums it up. Conversations were tough to have because the place was very loud so unless you are sitting close to the person you are talking to, it was hard to hear them. After a while, it does get to you. So.... if you're just going for vibes and cocktails, and you're not hungry, this might be the right setting for you. But for a celebration, group dinner, or anywhere inclusivity, perhaps not.

Stunning experience, friendly staff and artfully plated dishes. I love the ambiance here: low lit, sexy and perfect for date night. It's the kind of restaurant that is made for late nights and fun times. I went her for my birthday and we were seated at the corner table near the back. It was a perfect setting as the bar can get quite loud and this allows us to have more privacy. We ordered drinks, appetizers and for the finale, the waitress brought out a 3-tiered ice cream cake signed by all the staff. It was a thoughtful touch to a memorable evening. However, the star of the show was the lobster dumplings. Creamy, zesty and incredibly flavorful. I would return just to experience it again. The gobi Manchurian flatbread was also yummy and provided a bit of spicy kick. Overall, a beautiful experience.

We came on a Sunday night without a reservation and we were able to get bar seats. The menu is unique and the vibes are great. All of our food was delicious.. the caulilini was my favorite, but the cheese cubes are always a favorite. Bar snack popcorn at the end was fun

Loud and enchanting with a dark brooding vibe the space was electric, cozy, and crowded. The atmosphere in the first section was like an old time sitting room. Low tables and plush rounded chairs. Service was slow because it was busy and there was only one bar tender but we were in no rush. The passionfruit mule was deliciously gingery and the rose thorn tasted very floral. The wild gulf shrimp were large and flavorful. The tuna crudo was the highlight! Fresh with a light sauce, and a delightful taro crisp for a nice crunch. The king trumpet mushrooms were grilled instead of dairy buttered and they were fine. Nothing too extraordinary. Every was pleasant and a fun vibe. So many groups of people, couples on dates, friends meeting up it was a lively atmosphere.

The ambience of Yvonne's is a vibe in itself. The attention to detail is everywhere -love the playful portraits and the moody library feel. The pulsating music is energizing. Caesar, our server was outstanding! Anticipated our needs. Very efficient. Vibrant personality. A seasoned professional. But the food!!!!! Need I say more? We LOVED the food-from the chicken pita to the octopus. The flavors were truly incredible! Definitely recommend this outstanding restaurant. The whole experience from beginning to end was spectacular! They presented our check in the middle of a book to complete the library effect. Very clever. As a Yelp Elite/Allstar reviewer, I can definitely say Yvonne's was probably the best place we ate while vacationing in Boston and believe me, we went to many highly rated restaurants. Thank you for making our trip to Boston so memorable following the theater. If we ever venture back to Boston, we will definitely be back!

Beautiful and intimate atmosphere. Service was excellent she was very attentive and paced our meal well. We had the Mezze, Rack of Lamb, and Heirloom Carrots. My boyfriend, who had been there once before, said he preferred the previous carrot dish they had. Lamb was excellent.

    Yvonne's Reviews in Other Languages

    Ask the Community - Yvonne's

Hi! Is there a bar/lounge area where we can grab drinks without a full dinner reservation? Planning a night out and your space looks amazing.

Yes, there is a bar lounge area. I would just let the hosts know that is what you prefer.

Do they typically take same day reservations? If not, what's the minimum time ahead you would suggest calling to place one?

They do usually have some available for two tops, and one of the bars has ample standing room with high tops that you can do as walkin. I'd recommend 2-3 days ahead to be safe

What time does the club start?

    What is the dress code?

    Casual chic!

Do they let you add on one extra person to a reservation last-minute (one week in advance)?

    Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Is it possible to walk in on Friday around 5ish without waiting?

For drinks, yes. For food, not likely. They book up weekends for dining/food as far as 3-4 weeks in advance. 4pm and 9:30pm are usually safer times to walk in and finesse a table as they are last reservation spots to go

Is this a good 1st date spot?

Yes! Definitely a nice place for a first date, the ambiance was amazing

You don't need an ID to get in right?

My ID was checked by the waiter.

What is the average cost per person?

It depends of how much you drink ... average is like 50 per person

Is there a dress code? Do I need to dress fancy?

You should look nice it's definitely not a t shirt and jeans kinda place

What time does the kitchen closed?

    probably midnight...unsure

    Can you go without reservations?

For drinks, yes (although be prepared to squeeze past people to get to the two bars). For dinner, not likely. The dining areas are usually full during peak dining times. Highly recommend reservations for food.

Can you come in for dinner if you are younger than 21?

    Yes

Is there a pool table here?

Yvonnes is not a sports bar atmosphere. High class dress to impress.

Do you need a reservation to just sit at the bar? And is there a minimum amount you're required to spend?

    No and no

Are there any good vegan options here?

No. There are decent vegetarian options, but none that I consider decent for vegans because of dairy-based ingredients. The sister restaurant, Ruka, about 2 minutes away, is better for vegans.

It responded right away that it would optimize for a place that appeals to cocktail nerds and is open on Mondays. I directed me to Wig Shop, and said that Wig Shop even has a cocktail named in honor of John Gertsen, Boston's much-missed (he's in SF, last I knew) founding bartender at Drink and Number Nine Park. Wig Shop did not disappoint: fabulous cocktails, an easygoing vibe (my two buddies and I were able to chat without yelling from 8pm until 11:30), comfortable banquettes (with, incidentally, backs that are high enough to be supportive but low enough that you can spread out your arms on them), and wonderful service. The service, in particular, lives up to the "cocktail nerd" aspect that the LLM highlighted: our server knew the drinks backwards and forwards, and knew exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned the drink in Gertsen's honor. I'd recommend this place to cocktail nerds, and to anyone who wants to have a drink and chat with friends. We'll be back soon.

The way they are setup is that if you are a party of 2, they sit you with another "couple" to maximize space. This is fun, it makes you have conversations with strangers that for the time you are there become "friends". Hopefully you have the same good experience we did and not have anti-social people in front of you. (Any more than anyone from here would expect decent Chowder in San Diego.) My local friend chose this place, and I couldn't be more impressed. I'm guessing when the weather is right, that roof is open and then it becomes a rooftop bar. It's pure speculation, but I think my theory is right. Like mentioned above, the vibes here were amazing.
