rose tteokboki, spam& cheese kimbab, spicy squid kimbab
Doris Y.

I love the rose tteokboki here and the kimbabs! I've tried the spicy original tteokboki before which was decent but the rose is creamy and an absolute must! My only complaint is that they only give you half an egg.. I would've been much happier with the whole egg in there to dip in the sauce! The kimbabs are always good. My favorite is the spicy squid, wasabi donkatsu, and spam&cheese. They are always busy on weekends but the service is quick! My husband usually picks up from here and we haven't dined in yet but the food is always fresh and hot!

What a great local spot with awesome to-go food at affordable prices! You can get a gimbap for $5 here! I highly recommend their toast-- its jam packed with flavor and also hefty!

Great tasting, freshly prepared food + friendly and attentive staff + clean, comfy setting = touchdown! The K street toast with a bit of sweetness was a literal taste of Korea, and the two rolls (one spicy pork, one odeng) were delicious. I do need to mention that their spicy pork was definitely on the savory side without the typical subtle sweetness. I look forward to the next visit.

Solid food and affordable pricing! We had some really tasty food at YumSem and definitely plan to be back soon. It's on a busy street but it's perfect to keep toddlers entertained outside looking at all the cars going by. Parking is available in the back. The Korean street toast wasn't even on the menu but I was pleasantly surprised. It's hard to find places that do it well. Ramen was so good - definitely do the add-on. Ddukbokki was delicious. Maybe skip the $4 add-on for the cheese though! Kimbap was tasty as well and not bad at all for $5-7. Solid drink options and lots of variety of food ideal for lunch. Self-serve, and the place has seating but it can get crowded. Super cozy. Can't wait to be back!

First time here, I'm so glad we finally try this place! We got a bulgogi Kimbab, gochuchang fried chicken sandwich and Ktoast ham & egg. The kimbab was still warm when they serve to our table. It was only $7 and it was a good portion, the Ktoast was 10/10! I love the sweet mustard sauce, and lastly.the chicken sandwich was amazing! I love the packed it with pickles and the sauce it's delicious! Will be back to try other stuff. The place is clean and very bright.

**Overview:** Newly opened this month, YumSem has replaced Tao Haus in Closter as a Korean restaurant offering quick and delicious comfort food and specialty drinks. Their menu includes breakfast, brunch, and lunch options ranging from various types of toast and sandwiches/heroes to a wide array of kimbap (Korean rolls), tteokbokki (spicy Korean rice cakes), donkatsu, Korean ramen, drinks, and desserts. **Food:** The food was amazing, though the service could improve, particularly in taking orders and processing payments. - Classic Donkatsu $20 (+ $3 for ramen): The portions are huge--one dish is enough for two people! The picture doesn't do justice to how large this dish really is. The donkatsu (fried pork, with a fried chicken cutlet option) featured white meat, which indicates it hasn't been refried, and it was super crispy without being overly breaded. The fries had a perfect balance of crispness and mushiness. The traditional Korean ramen was intriguing and subtly different, with a nice addition of onions and possibly a bit of cheese. **Drinks:** - Grapefruit-ade ($3.50): My favorite so far; it's not too sweet, and I love the use of real fruits. - Purple Lemonade ($4) and Rose Yogurt ($6): These were too sweet for my taste. **Ambiance:** The environment is clean with a modern, mid-century/industrial interior design. There is plenty of space for a medium size group (of ~6-8 people) and has limited parking on the side of the building. **Conclusion:** I can't wait to go back and try their kimbaps and sandwiches! -------------------- UPDATE (a few days later): Went back to order a quick kimbap, and service was a train wreck... I was waiting in line for about 20 minutes, and when I was finally the next person in line, I was told that food will take ~25minutes to make. I ended up leaving, unable to order anything, along with a few other people who were also waiting in line. The food is good, there's so much potential... But they really need a new system, to fire the waitress standing around and doing nothing, and to hire someone more competent (who's able to read/write/spell things correctly, know the menu, and take orders and payments). One person (the owner's younger brother) was doing everything in the front (from start to finish) by himself...

Food was great. Had the spicy tuna kimbap, cheese donkastu, and classic donkatsu. Though I was a bit disappointed with the cheese donkatsu because I thought it was actual fried mozzarella - I should've read the menu a bit longer. It was still delicious though! Spicy tuna Kimbap was good!

Amazing prices, delicious food, what more could I ask for? If I lived closer, I would come here multiple times a week! It's the perfect spot to come by for a quick lunch that's delicious, filling, and a great bang for your buck. Highly recommend any of the kimbaps, ddukboki, Korean street toast and mango smoothie. I already can't wait to come back and try everything else!

The host arranged 2 tables for us quickly. We got the combo A (4-5people): 4 beef/steak + 1 pork shoulder. Meat quality is good. The staff cooked it for us. I wish they have a better vent system. The smoke kinda just floated around. Small dishes are provided, such as kimchi. Nice decoration inside. Bathroom is clean. The staff are friendly. A good spot for Korean BBQ.

The dining space looked nice, there were some decorations for the festive season as well. The menu had starters, side dishes, noodles, and of course the K-BBQ, both individual and sets. We ordered a first set that came with 5 different meats including pork belly, prime ribs and steaks. The meat tasted good and they were cooked fine in the grill by the staff member. We also had free side items like cucumber, kimchi, macaroni, mixed greens and rice. We ordered few additional items like edamame, seafood pancake, beef dumplings and japchae. Everyone loved the thin noodles of japchae. Edamame and dumplings were fine. I didn't like the pancake as it had a very dense and bland tasting dough. Overall our dining experience was decent. Our server handles the grilled fine, efficiently cooked all the meat items and spread them on two sides of the tables. She also kept refilling the side items as needed.

Once your order is ready your number is called and you pick up your tray of food. There is signage in the restaurant indicating that they are self-serve and that you shouldn't tip. My girlfriend and I ordered beef soup and a seafood pancake. The food was prepared fairly quickly and they called our number to pick up the food from the counter. The seafood pancake was pretty good. Very flavorful but I felt like it was thicker and more doughy than I prefer. I would probably skip this for the next visit. The beef soup was delicious as well. It was just the right temperature and it was salty and savory enough without being overwhelming. We went on a particularly cold day so the hot soup really hit the spot. The pieces of beef in the soup were super tender too. Continuing the self-service theme there was a water dispenser and there was even a dispenser of broth at the pick up counter. I liked that broth even more than the broth in the beef soup. I slurped up several cups of it. I'd certainly come back.

Formerly known as Sambong as recently as 8-9 months ago when they first opened, menu-wise they've stayed fairly consistent, specializing in naengmyun (cold noodles in a chilled broth), with some stews and bbq grilled items too. On a cold winter Sunday afternoon we placed our orders around 12:40 and it was ready for pick up at 1:15pm. We ordered: - 물냉면 + 목살구이 Mul Naengmyun Cold Noodle + Pork Neck BBQ $24.99: the thin noodles are super bouncy and chewy, excellent take on a summer classic! Soup and toppings hit the spot, a couple slices of beef and Asian pear, thinly slice cucumbers and pickled radish, plus half an egg. The extra side of bbq pork cheek was marinated and grilled to tender perfection. - 소고기 국밥 Spicy Guk Bap $17.99: lightly spicy beef broth with bean sprouts, scallions, and pieces of beef, served over rice. Warm and hearty Korean comfort food on a cold day. - 사골우거지된창국 Sagol Ugeoji Doenjang Guk with Rice $18.99: this beef bone broth is seasoned with fermented bean paste, a flavor somewhat similar to miso with plenty of rehydrated dried napa cabbage. A rich flavor and great over the white rice that came with it. - 돈까스 Donkatsu $19.99 and LA갈비 LA Galbi BBQ $36.99: my friends ordered these items to share with their kids. I didn't try them though they appeared to enjoy. - banchan (side dishes): about 5 or 6 small containers came with the entrees, consisting of regular napa kimchi, a couple different radish kimchis, fish cakes. The chilled kimchi was fermented goodness and went well with the hot broths, soup and rice. Would recommend!

We most recently came in on a Friday night with a 6 pm reservation. Yes, we had to flag down one of the harried but cheerful women working here to place our order. But look around - there's not a white tablecloth in sight. You may have to catch someone's eye, and there's nothing wrong with that. By 6:15 pm, half of our order was on the table, and we were gleefully chomping on fried dumplings and pillowy buns. The small but clean and modern space was packed - packed with people, but also with so much happiness. Almost everyone was smiling, laughing, and joking as they tucked into this feel-good array of comfort classics. Jajangmyun, jjampong, khan poong, gochu japchae... all of these traditional dishes sang. Even a simple plate of sauteed vegetables was delicious. And everything spent just seconds between being finished in the kitchen and sitting in front of us. Is it cheap? No, nor should it be. The ingredients are of the freshest, including the seafood. The cooking couldn't be better. And this is no grimy hole in the wall. If it were a French bistro, you'd have no problem with the prices. So pay these fine folks what they deserve, and enjoy.
