I have to give this three stars only because my daughter liked what she had (teriyaki beef) but my sushi...if this is the BEST Lodi has to offer I feel pretty sad. The tuna was like a thick little brick and the texture made me a little fearful that I may get sick from it. I didn't though but I was very disappointed in the very small selection of flavors. It seemed that each roll was just a tiny bit different than the other. I love my kid but don't think I'll be back. Service was quite odd too. The girl that served us kept asking if we were doing good but when it came time to get the check we were ignored. I think people need to get out a bit more and have some real sushi before they can give this place a 5 star rating. read more

I stopped in for a quick lunch with my 7 month old baby. Most places have staff that would cringe at the prospect of a single adult diner plus a baby. Not Yume! We had wonderful & friendly service from Fabiola, the hostess. The miso soup is sublime, the Chirashi came with a very generous array of sashimi (Oh, how I Love, LOVE, LOOOOVE the scallop sashimi!!!). They even brought us a tiny plate of cubed tofu for my little one, so he could try something new. Outstanding service, wonderfully fresh & artfully prepared sashimi and sushi rice. We came in late, close to closing, yet the waitress was very nice and helpful. This is the first sign of a wonderful meal. She answered our questions and even helped us order for our children. 2 stars because the service was really good. We sat at the sushi bar. Since the reviews were mixed, we wanted to test the waters. We ordered: Edamame - it was served cold. Really cold. It was a first for me but not bad. Sashimi sampler - tuna, salmon and yellowtail. The salmon was cut in squares, barely bigger than a postage stamp. The yellowtail was absolutely butchered. It fell apart because it was cut so poorly. The tuna was the only decent sized cut that resembled sashimi I have had before. 2 small hot sakes - $5.00 each, really? This business replaced my beloved Nonakas so the pressure was on. They just opened yesterday which is obvious because there's only 1 table eating inside. The decor is comfy and the menu is a little on the small side, however prices are descent. I tried a teriyaki chicken bowl and it didn't have allot of flavor. The chicken was cooked just right and it was a hearty portion. My husband and I went last Saturday night. We were seated right away and given waters. We ordered Yume prawns for our appetizer. They were delicious. So we had high expectations for the rolls and ramen we ordered. The ramen was really good . The meat in the ramen was two large pieces of pork which made it hard to eat. The sushi rolls are where we were disappointed. Although beautifully presented the rolls were bland. No amount of soy sauce could change the blandness of those rolls. read more

The server was able to answer all of our questions, and even help out by getting me a small plate of chicken for my daughter- which is not on the menu. The sushi was okay, the seafood tasted fresh. Unfortunately I was not wowed by anything. My friend dining with me pointed out that they don't cover their rolls in all those crazy sauces that all the trendy places do now- but still everything lacked presentation and really, flavor. Not bad for our first trip here. Hubby ordered beef teriyaki and he loved it! Keep in mind this man is extremely picky about his meat and he really enjoyed there wasn't any fat in his meat. I ordered the spicy tuna salad andni enjoyed every bit of it! I received good size portion of tuna and their dressing really topped it off for me! We also had the squid in a vinegar sauce, surprisingly delicious! So why a four star and not a five? Well, we also ordered a spicy tuna roll and the only thing that was disappointing about it is that it had no sauce and just some type of sirachi sauce on top.... just a bit dry. I called the restaurant for a pick up order. Because I'm new to Japanese food, I had to ask the worker what items were vegetarian friendly. She kindly asked the chef to verify my options and I could overhear the conversation which gave me comfort because many restaurant workers I've dealt with in the past don't care to go above and beyond the way she did. Workers often make me feel like they're guessing and assuming which makes me nervous that I'm ordering something that may contain animal broth or some other hidden ingredient. Unfortunately the Vegetarian roll is not actually vegetarian FYI, but I ended up ordering the kappa maki which is a simple sushi roll with rice and cucumbers. She also said the seaweed salad is vegetarian for anyone that may need to know, but I chose to just order two orders of Kappa Maki since they only come with 4 pieces which was only $8. I tipped the girl $5 because she deserved it! read more

Food was yummy and variety good. Pretty classic menu. We enjoy sitting at the sushi bar but the fish cooler (or whatever that glass container is called) didn't seem set up for spectators so we opted for a small table (cooler was disorderly with fish and boxes of something on top of one another - it didn't look unhealthy, just messy). Service was fast and helpful and prices pretty standard. Fish and vegetables were fresh and there was a different take with grape tomatoes and fresh greens on some of the plates. It was a really nice contrast. This was more a family and neighborhood restaurant than the other 4-5 star place off Ham or Lower Sacramento. We will likely be back. read more

First visit. I ordered Tekka Maki along with halibut, hamachi, and tuna nigiri. They were out of halibut. We also ordered the shrimp and veggie tempura. Tempura was good, crispy and flaky. The tekka maki and nigiri was a mixed bag. The fish tasted ok, but the rice was dry and hard in places, as though the rice had been left in the pot for hours. BIG turn-off. My wife had tofu and mushroom teriyaki, which was very pleasant. The mushrooms were very flavorful. I also had a bowl of miso soup(I almost ALWAYS get miso with sushi), and I found this miso to be a bit heavy on the salt. I will be back, but it will be awhile as I feel they are still getting their business together. They've only been open for a few months and it takes time (and customers) to work out the kinks. read more

Been living in Lodi for a few years now and I've been to every sushi place in town except Yume. Given the reviews I told my husband, why not. I'm very faithful when I comes to customer service. However, upon our arrival we were quickly seated. You would think someone would have asked us. About drinks? Menus? Nope nada... sad. I whispered to my husband where's our server? He said he didn't know? So we waited. 8 mins later... a party of three come in. They get seated. They got drinks. And she was ready to take their order. Say what? Hold up... what am I chopped Nemo? I'm a vegan and Yume's is my favorite place for sushi! They have a great variety for vegans! My wife and I have been bringing friends and other family here for about a year now. Very friendly, one of the chefs told me about a dish she made for another vegan and after trying it, I ordered it every time I visit. Even my non-vegan friends order it! I used to ask for the Melissa Roll, now, its an item on the menu! Top it off, most of the servers know what I usually order; can't beat that! Great food and service! read more

Truly did not expect to find this quality sushi in Lodi. I am not talking about the "rolls" which are abundant and look yummy. For me it is all about nigiri sushi. The quality and cut of fish is outstanding. I appreciate when they say they are out of something rather than serve subpar fish, they are out. We love sushi and this is our go to restaurant in Lodi! Fresh, yummy and well made. Great service as well. They have other options too if you're not into sushi. They have several types of hot and cold sake as well as beer. Nothing goes better with sushi than some good sake :-). Gotta admit that I love me some sushi. Sometimes I feel that I am a bit of a Japanese cuisine snob, mostly because I worked at a Japanese grocery store for five years. I love Yume. The fish is so fresh and tasty. I've never been a huge fan of maguro but their maguro is the butteriest I've ever had. Not at all fishy. I could eat it everyday. Their rolls are not sauced up too much, just the right amount to give the roll and extra bit of flavor. I've had several rolls already and I'm just loving the taste. One of my staples at Japanese restaurants is Agedashi tofu. I was overly pleased to see that they use katakuri-ko (potato starch) instead of corn starch or even worse tempura batter, making this dish very authentic and delicious. This is a fabulous restaurant that everyone in the area should try. Top notch sushi. Update: Wow this place amazes me still! Now they have a large selection of Japanese beer some of which I haven't seen in other restaurants! They also serve sake now and wines from the local area! Fantastic! I love Yume!! read more

Yume is a charming sushi joint tucked away in a nondescript Lodi shopping strip. Square canvas paintings hang prominently on the otherwise plain walls and jazz music fills the lively restaurant. Clatter from behind the sushi bar and open kitchen makes the restaurant feel bigger than it is. Though still new and roughing out the details, Yume delivers in quality and service. The slices of fish on top of my rainbow roll melted in my mouth and the ponzu served with my squid vinegar was satisfyingly tart. The food is authentic with a nod to the American palette. I felt guilty about my visit here today, I've been a loyal guest at Matsuyama for many (11) years, but I felt a gentle nudge to give the new place an audition. I ordered a hand roll and a rainbow roll, with each I got not only good food, but the feeling that the chef understands the art of the cuisine he is serving. The decor is subtle, yet comfortable and refreshing, and the open kitchen does make the restaurant feel much larger than it is. The service fits in with the atmosphere, prompt, yet gentle. I have read some of the negative reviews here and just question the validity of them. This place, by far, is the best sushi place in the area. Now, if you are looking for budget sushi just to fill your belly, this is not your place. If your are looking for 30 different types of rolls, this is not your place. Go to OZ or Raley's for your sushi. If, however, you appreciate quality fish (purist) and quality service, you will LOVE this place! The fish is superb and the rolls are designed to highlight the quality of it. I have had the blufin tuna here on special occasions when they have it. OMGoodness, it was amazing. If you go, see if he has it. You will not be disappointed! I have tried nearly everything on the menu and the only thing I would not order again is the Sea Urchin.
