Was pleasantly surprised with Ramen 101. I remembered Elk Grove Ramen 101 quite well and the experience I had there wasn't great and unfortunately, it closed. Now, I hesitated for a bit to try this one in Stockton but hubby was like let's try it. So, as we parked, plenty of parking by the way, we stepped into the building, not as big, there were customers dinning in, but the atmosphere was chilly! Lol Our front guy greeted us and handed us the menu. It's a pay first ordering system, just like how they had it in Elk Grove and other restaurants like Sit Lo Saigon and Koshi Ramen, to name a few. We opt for outside dinning cause I was freezing inside. The wait for our food wasn't too long but I noticed our ramen came out first and then apps maybe 10 mins after. No biggie! I enjoyed the tonkostu ramen a lot. Very flavorful. The chashu was over cooked though and egg wasn't as jammy...i ordered medium spicy. They have condiments and utensils outside ready on table. Personally I wouldn't use the condiments outside. Just don't know how long they've been sitting there or what could have flew or crawled in lol the Takoyaki was hot and steamy. Not the best I've had but it works. The chicken karaage was a bit dry...comes with a spicy mayo sauce. Hubby enjoyed his Black Garlic , spicy, no complaints. I love eating at authentic ramen restaurants. So I was very happy that I was able to try this one. I came with my sisters and mom who are also ramen LOVERS. We ordered the shrimp and vegetable tempura which come with soy sauce. The shrimp one was very crunchy, warm, and very tasty. The vegetable one was filled with sweet potato, zucchini, broccoli, and onion. Sadly, they were soft and soggy. I would have preferred them to be more crunchy. We ordered the Tonkotsu ramen. You can choose the level of spiciness. We got spicy. The soup felt way too overpowered by the spiciness. The tonkotsu flavor that I was expecting felt lost with all the spicy flavor. We also ordered the chicken katsu which came with a side of sweet sauce, macaroni salad, rice, and vegetables. The chicken katsu was unfortunately too dry. I wanted more juiciness and tenderness. The macaroni salad, rice, and vegetables were good. And for our drinks, we got unsweetened oolong tea which was very good. The service was nice and quick. We stopped by Ramen 101 because we were craving something soupy, but -- the highlight wasn't the ramen. The ramen broth was a bit bland, but the chashu meat was really tender. The standout dish for me was definitely the Chashu Rice Bowl. The chashu was super tender, and the sauce on it was super flavorful, but the cabbage and broccoli in the bowl was undercooked. Decided to try something new in town and the weather is perfect for ramen! We ordered the Miso Ramen and Vegetarian Ramen and 2 fountain drinks. The service was very fast, we barely waited maybe 3-5 mins. It's a nice small joint, it can be loud but that would be expected. The ramen was delicious, I couldn't finish mine but it was very tasty. I usually get the tonkotsu ramen here... Its really good, rich broth and great flavor. But I've noticed since the last time I came, the pork belly slices keep getting smaller. Overall great ramen and gyoza! However, the downside about this place is the size of the restaurant and how packed it gets! They can't keep up with the orders. Although the food is good and worth waiting for, they served our tables meals separately. Half of us ate while the other half had to sit and wait super long for the rest of our tables meals. They also served some tables the wrong appetizers, and when they realized they came back to take it to the correct table. The restaurant was so packed there was no seating inside or even room to stand inside. The lines went out the door and the tables were filled. We had to eat outside in the cold, but at least the ramen was hot. The tables are poorly placed next to the door. Members of our group kept getting smacked every time someone walked in and out of the place. We tried to move the tables over an inch or two, but the tables are bolted to the ground. We came here for a birthday dinner and we really tried to enjoy the best of it. This place is great but they definitely need a bigger space. If the restaurant isn't empty, it's almost not even worth the hassle to get ramen here. Or just take it to go! read more

All meat does so it doesn't deserve knocking a star off, but I would gladly pay more money for better quality beef. We both ended up getting the seafood bowl and were really delish the bamboo shoots mixes well with the noodles, giving a nice contrast. I ordered the BBQ Chicken and Chicken Katsu combination. The food was great. Plenty of both types of chicken, 2 scoops of rice, and a generous scoop of macaroni salad. The only bad point was that I asked for a side of teriyaki sauce, but instead got a side of katsu sauce.
