This was my first time at this establishment. I ordered a Katsu Chicken plate with a California Roll. The Katsu was tender, crispy, and definitely hit the spot. However, the California Roll had an almost stale, unsavory taste that was a bit off putting. While the food was mostly below-to-mediocre, the service was significantly worse. The service was incredibly subpar, in my opinion. We did not receive menus, nor straws. The waiter did not arrive to take our order for fifteen minutes since sitting down. In fact, the waiter did not refill the water throughout the duration of finishing the meal. At one point, we called the waiter over to fill up the glasses because we didn't get a check-in since receiving the meals. As a customer, the food was subpar, but the service was arguably worse. M sushi bistro is our go to sushi spot ever since we moved to Lodi! I love the ambiance of this place and their food is soooo yummy. Service is usually pretty good unless they're busy! The workers there are all very sweet and nice. My favorite thing to order is the sashimi moriswase which comes with 15 pieces of fish that are the chef's choice. I LOOOVEEEE the blue fin tuna. M Sushi continues to be one of my favorite spots for sushi in the Central Valley. Prices have definitely gone up over the years, but that's expected with the current economy. Even so, the quality is still there. The fish is fresh, the presentation is beautiful, and overall, the food is consistently good and I'm satisfied every visit, even when doing take out. I do hope they expand someday because the restaurant itself is pretty small and gets very busy. Minh, the owner, is there every day and clearly takes a lot of pride in the work and care that goes into curating each dish. I have been to M Sushi on several occasions over the past year. Each time has been pleasant and the food is really good. I have had their rolls, ramen, and small plates. The physical space itself is clean and has a modern/trendy feel. Service is only okay at best. But what I think kind of spoiled our last try was ordering the WAGYU BEEF TATAKI‍. I cannot explain how incredibly small and thinly sliced the 2 pieces are cut. I know Wagyu is expensive, but let me tell you these slices cant even be described as wafer thin, because that would be insulting to wafers. I kid you not, each Wagyu slice was about as thin, and weighed as much as a single Lays potato chip. Mind you, the small plate is 20 bucks and maybe 3 GRAMS of meat at best! In no world can that price be justified. I feel like it's even a little bit deceitful because they never mentioned it's only 2 micro slices. And they try to bolster its appearance by adding greens and drizzle, but it's still a comical lack of substance. I have since went back through old Yelp reviews and see that I am not the only one to notice this issue. Oh and, yes they do suggest tip amounts based on the food AND tax. Anytime any restaurant does this, please know it's intentional because the pay systems they use are configurable to make tip suggestions solely on food prices, and not include tax. So as of now, I think I will take a break from M sushi until service improves, and the value proposition changes a bit. read more

WATCH OUT THAT THERE IS ANOTHER SUSHI PLACE ACROSS THE STREET (I thought it was a recent name change but it's a different restaurant with a subpar rating). FOOD: the food is HECKA expensive and in my opinion, totally not worth the price tag. For example, the nigiri, sashimi, chirashi combo is $50 and adding more pieces instantly increases the cost to $100. There aren't any special expensive pieces included. They just make it look fancy with microgreens and orchid petals. The microgreens are yellowing and brown. SALAD AND MISO SOUP ARE INCLUDED. Salad has a bunch of browning bits which is SUPER GROSS (it's your typical salad mix from Costco) but also includes halved grape tomatoes and sliced radishes. The dressing is good but is heavily cream based. Take out included utensils but both were strangely unwrapped (particularly the chopsticks). Furthermore, strange that they provide utensils but no dish tray for the shoyu and wasabi... I guess they assume you'll use the soup container? ***NO WASABI included in the nigiri themselves*** SERVICE is bordering on rude. Literally wanted me to order single nigiri's and was like oh yeah we do have combos and they could not find it on the menu (uuuuhh). Couldn't hear me (it's freezing). Did offer water. AMBIANCE is casual dining but I would not recommend group dining since they charge an instant 20% for more than 6 individuals even if you are not eating. Modern Japanese American decor. Strange how they block off areas. Located in downtown Lodi with multiple street parking that is free for 90 minutes every day from 9am to 5pm except for Sundays and holidays. 20% tip for parties greater than 6 (even if not everyone is dining). 3.84% extra charge if you use a credit card... hashtag major lame. Website is fairly accurate regarding pricing and policies. Need I say more? Not coming back in a million years. read more

The customer service was great and you could view your food being made right in front of you with a beautiful open kitchen concept. It was very business but this did not stop them from taking your time with you. I had their M Speciality Roll, and wow, the flavors were perfectly balanced! It's made with spicy tuna, avocado, and cucumber, topped with seared salmon, crispy onions, green onions, eel sauce, and spicy mayo. Every bite was rich, layered, and absolutely delicious. I also tried their halibut and albacore nigiri, and both were incredibly tender, buttery, and packed with flavor. So fresh, they practically melted in my mouth. Only regret? Hey there Party People The restaurant is in a great location with easy parking. The decor is simple and very cozy. We had a large group of eight sometimes that can present a challenge with the arrival of the food. The wait staff did a fantastic job of pacing the food do we went seamlessly from appetizers to entrees. It was a wonderful day with family celebrating and the food just added to the joy. We were visiting Lodi and looking for a place for lunch, we looked at Yelp and saw this place had a 4.1 stars rating so we visited the place. 1. Ambiance was so so, more like a bar than Japanese Resturaunt. 2. Service was poor. 3. Food was fair, we had several rolls (too much rice) and a bento. I do not consider this authentic Japanese cusine. 4. The things that made me give this rating were that they calculated the tip on the total that included the sales tax and CVC fee, this is not honest. They also charged a credit card fee of 3.84%, first they do not pay this high of credit card charge to AMEX, also why not roll this expense in the price of the food and beverage. Very few places that charge this fee that I am aware of. read more

My daughter & I got extremely sick after having the Killer Bri roll. At the moment we enjoyed the roll, tasted good, but obviously the raw fish was rotten! The burning sensation lasted in our stomachs for days! The waiter was rude & tried to rush us so many times when we were looking at the menu on our small screens, since they're to cheap to invest in real menus. Waiter also looked at me like I was an alien when I asked if they served spring water lol he said in his really feminine voice "only tap" The dressings to the salads, both house & Wakame, were extremely sweet & just piled on, the miso soup was cold. We've been big fans of M Sushi since they opened and have had great service and great food consistently through DoorDash, dine in and take out. However, tonight was disappointing. We ordered through DoorDash and ordered sticky ribs, 2 specialty rolls and sesame chicken big plate. The sticky ribs were cold, and tasted like it had been sitting out- the meat tasted a few days old. I know the kitchen preps things in advance but this was not good enough for me to even want to try again. Their portions are usually decently sized so I was shocked to open the box and only see 2 pieces! I wish there was more transparency on how the portion size on the menu. If I knew it was only 2 pieces, I would have skipped it and saved the $13 we spent. The sesame chicken big plate also did not taste like it was prepared fresh- kind of like it had been sitting out for a while and they gave us whatever the kitchen had out. It wasn't as crispy as usual and was soggier than usual. Obviously when you get DoorDash, it's not the same as dining in, so our expectations are managed appropriately. But we typically order M sushi through DD and it's never been this disappointing. Maybe we ordered too soon to their closing time? Really hoping this was just a fluke. read more

Wow! I came to visit some family from the Bay Area and have been craving solid sushi because frankly, the Bay doesnt have many good options that have consistently good quality. I was blown away my the flavor and quality of fish used in the rolls ordered. For the price point, excellent quality and will def be coming back again. We ordered 3 rolls for 3 people and it was more than enough. I saw some reviews regarding service and I must say the traditional "american" way of dining is just fast and rushed. I appreciate a slower pace dining experience so I can actually eat and socialize with the people I am with. I would say the pace of service is calm and nice in my personal opinion. I didn't feel rushed to order, eat and go. Remember to savor the food and the company you are with as well. Rolls ordered: -To Die For: who knew lemon and apple would go so well with tempura and salmon. Absolute must -Crunch & Munch: Refreshing and delicious! Has Jalapeño slices on top for a nice kick. Upon entering the restaurant, if it's your first time, the entrance may be hidden, so make sure to look carefully as you're walking down the streets. The servers were quick and very accommodating! I ordered a Chicken Pan-Fried Noodle, Hudson Delight Roll, Hokkaido Uni nigiri, and (Sake) Salmon Sashimi (7 pcs). Chicken Pan-Fried Noodle was a bit more on the nutty side with some hints of spice. The dish was a bit salty, and there was more chicken than noodles. I would have preferred to have more noodles, but the dish was decent. Hudson Delight Roll was good--not too overly covered in sauce, tasted fresh, and had a good spice to it. The Hokkaido Uni was very interesting. At first, I immediately tasted the wasabi, but the sharpness faded quickly, leaving the texture of the sea urchin. The uni itself was smooth and slightly mushy. The Salmon Sashimi was served with a squeeze of lemon, which was refreshing and tasty, although we should have asked for more lemons to squeeze over. I do wish the rolls were a little smaller (in circumference), not so large, but that seems to be common in Northern California.
