Had the nicest and quietest dinner here last night. This was our first time and while it's a really small little dining room, the low lighting and light jazz music playing in their sound system made it extra cozy and nice. We were the only customers and got there around 6:30. My only critique is that there were a lot of employees and we were the only patrons, yet our two servers did seem distracted and forgot a couple of things throughout the meal. I'm giving grace for that because it was a very slow night and they were probably just chit chatting in the back. I would've had no issue giving this 5 stars if it wasn't for that one small thing. Service otherwise was very friendly and quick The food was fantastic! As a Japanese American who's been eating sushi since I was in the womb, I have to disagree with the yelper who recently said the rolls are too small and too expensive. The rolls we ordered were huge and the fish was very fresh and on par with M sushi and Komachi. Is it a luxurious loungy city style vibe? No. But the food is great and the prices are fair imo for the extremely fresh and delicious fish. We ordered two bowls of miso, salmon tataki roll (I only wished for more onions!), the spicy crunchy scallop roll (my new favorite roll in Lodi), snow crab CA roll, and I think the last one was a dragon roll with unagi. They were all great. We were def pleasantly surprised by Yume and will absolutely be coming back. read more

I have been living in Lodi on and off between my other house in Boise and never tried this place until a few weeks ago. To be honest the only way I am giving this a 3 star was the service. The ambiance was super clean as well and no issues there. My biggest concern was the food except the unagi which was delicious. The Ramen if I was to rate it would be 2 out of 5 stars. No great flavor and a complete disappointment. I would come back to try more sushi but definitely not the ramen. read more

Came here with my family a couple of times. We ordered a lot of sushi and everything was perfect. The Tekamaki roll is perfect with spicy mayo. The staff is very friendly. They catered to out needs and gave us more than what we needed. They would clear our unused dishes while we were dining giving us more room. The diner has a Japanese hibachi feel to it. The restrooms are clean. The kitchen has a small window allowing you to see inside giving you peace of mind if it's your first time. I will definitely keep coming here. read more

Sushi is almost religious experience for me. I have had a lot of it in a lot of places. Unfortunately, Yume kinda let me down. While the salmon was very fresh and tasty, the rolls are so small and wildly overpriced. Let's talk about the size issue, because this is more of a deal breaker for me than the price. There is so little in the rolls, and they're the wrapped in so little rice that they don't really stick together and begin to come unwrapped when picked up. I would rather have a roll that is less pieces and wrapped big enough to hold its shape. We also tried the teriyaki beef and broccoli and the meat was inconsistently cooked, some was really overdone. The sauce was also disappointing because it had very little flavor. I get that this is Lodi, but I can get sushi in San Francisco that's not only markedly better, but also cheaper. I usually give any place w couple tries, but I really don't think I will be back here, and really can't recommend you try it. read more

I ordered lunch here last month and just remembered from my phone pics. My Udon soup hit the spot. The noodles were so big and perfectly chewy, and the broth was full of umami. I drove about 10 mins to pick it up. It was still piping hot when I got home. I tried both California Rolls - one with real crab and the other with imitation crab. Oddly enough, I preferred the imitation crab! Leftovers were decent the next day too. The Crunchy Rainbow Roll was also fresh and satisfying. I'm sure it would have been crunchier if it wasn't a pickup order. This place is small and casual. The cashier was friendly and polite when I took a while signing the receipt cause I forgot my glasses. I'd return to try more special rolls. read more

We visited Yume late one evening. We ordered sashimi, agedashi tofu, fried squid and a couple of rolls. I was surprised to see very thinly sliced, about an inch long sashimi on a bed of greens. The agedashi tofu lacked flavor. It was presented like a bowl of soup. I miss the bonito flakes that usually tops the tofu. The rolls were just ok; however we enjoyed the fried squid. It was served with a a tasty sauce. Staff was friendly but I don't think I'll be going back. read more

Where do I even start. I never write bad reviews, but this was the worst restaurant experience! When my family and I walked into the restaurant the waitress' looked at us like we had just entered a crime scene. I wish I would have just walked out then. Initially no one greeted us but when our waitress did finally come up to us she immediately warned us that their sushi chef was not there so they could not serve us sushi, I told her that's ok we were intending to eat Udon and ramen any way. We decided to order an appetizer shrimp tempura our waitress told us unfortunately they just changed out the oil and it would take 20 min before we could eat our appetizer, once again we said that's fine. When we ordered our drinks I asked for a Diet Coke or Pepsi she said unfortunately they don't have diet I then asked for a root beer they came back with a coke. My food did come out quickly but unfortunately the Udon tasted old and had a bad after taste. My wife ordered Ramen she complained it was too sour. We ordered some type of tempura chicken for my son it was rubbery and had a sour unsavory taste. The staff was unprofessional our waitress was flustered and trying to do the best she could but I could hear the other staff complaining the whole time we were eating. I felt uncomfortable and I felt like we were inconveniencing them because we were there. The whole restaurant was a mess. At one point I got up to use the restroom and as I walked by the counter there were bins of dirty dishes everywhere on the ground. Once I got to the men's room it reeked like urine and the light was so dim I felt like I was peeing in the dark. All in all it was the most expensive disgusting meal I ever ate I paid 129 dollars I felt like I was robbed. I've never wanted to get up and not pay for my food ever in my life but I honestly contemplated it. My family had a stomach ache after we left probably because of unsanitary kitchen. Cozy, little spot nestled in nice quaint quiet side of Lodi. Food was absolutely amazing. We had Spicy Red Dragon Rolls, Spicy Salmon Roll, Edemame, and Seaweed Salad with Ice tea, and hot green tea. My favorite was hands down the Spicy Red Dragon Roll, ended up ordering a second roll. Staff was kind and food was out quit quickly. Great place, come support this long-term local business. Probably some of the best sushi we've had and with some very unique combinations of things on some of the rolls. All excellent even the egg plant sushi. The texture of the egg plant was different but the flavor made it exceptional. A must try. read more

Wow, what a great gem in Lodi! I'm pretty picky about my Japanese food, but the flavor here is so good and the quality is right up there too! The chicken teriyaki bowl is giant. My kids devoured the albacore vinegar (luckily I got a piece), so fresh. Excellent. A tiny, authentic gem. A Japanese-owned sushi and ramen shop! The ramen was simple but EXCELLENT. I was surprised because it came out without the ubiquitous bamboo shoots and red-died ginger of so many establishments. The owner was gracious enough to answer my questions about this, and he explained that such condiments do not normally accompany pork-based broth ramen. He also told us he uses only fresh noodles made locally. It shows. The noodles had excellent flavor and texture. They had a nice wine selection, plus soft drinks and even ramune. I am a frequent and long-time customer at Yume and a firm believer that anyone else who gives them a try will be as well. Masa, the owner and chef here, is one of the nicest, most hardworking people you will ever meet. He puts genuine care into his work and you can see that in the finished product. I absolutely love their Salmon Tataki Roll. It's almost like a salmon salad. They make the freshest, most delicious California Roll you will ever eat and the Yume Roll is a unique take on that as well. My favorite thing to get though is the Peanut Chicken over rice; So simple, yet so delicious. Yume is small, with a cozy feel and there is always something new to try so you will never get bored coming here but you will definitely find your favorites because it's so easy to do. The staff is always welcoming and it just feels like home. Its no wonder Yume is always voted best sushi restaurant and has such a crazy high rating on Yelp. I keep coming back to this place. Food is amazing. So fresh, pretty quick and ALWAYS delicious. I've had many things from here that have been great, but besides sushi, their ramen is phenomenal. They have a selection and I haven't tried them all but I've had three different types, and today I had the tangy cilantro with shrimp and it did not disappoint. I dont think I have ever finished all of my ramen anywhere before and I ate every last bit today and will be ordering it again. This place I believe is a hidden gem. What Yume offers is pretty good. What they don't offer may disappoint some. You will not find Bento Boxes on the menu. Some 'staples' such as Hamachi Kama are not on the menu. What they do have is an abundance of other appetizers, nigiri, sashimi and rolls. The dining room is small. I had made a reservation for five so one of their two 'long' tables was reserved for us when we walked in. The restaurant is all two and four tops. Our table was two moved together. When it got busy beyond what the kitchen could comfortably handle, they stopped seating guests and taking phone orders. That earned a lot of respect from me. Instead of trying to take on as much business as they could, they focused on the guests that were already seated. We started with iced water for everyone plus a Coke. I suggested to our server that she simply leave a pitcher of ice water and that would save her some work. She happily accommodated my request. We started with: Pan-Fried Pork Gyoza - 5 - I love having a decent amount of veg in my gyoza. My dining companions, not so much. But since this is MY review... They come six to an order and we ordered two plates. A bit more pan fry time would add more flavor and texture. Seafood Tempura - 3 - everything was cut too small and the order didn't seem complete on the plate. Probably better as an app for one. We ordered two and it was not memorable. Deep Fried Oysters - 2 - unfortunately, they were overcooked. The crust was hard and the oyster was firm. Agedashi Tofu - 4 - The presentation was unusual. The Tofu was stacked in a regular bowl with the dipping sauce at the bottom. There was a spoon for the sauce but you couldn't get to it until most of the tofu had been removed. We had ordered two so we ate from one bowl before moving onto the second. There were no green onions or bonito flakes in the dish. Flavor wise, it was okay. Tuna Cerviche - 3 - one of our friends ordered this. It was okay but not my cup of tea. Yume Roll - 5 - Reading reviews, I kept seeing the Yume Roll. At $30, it is a bit pricy but not excessively so. Generally, we're not fans of rolls that have too many ingredients or multiple sauces. You will rarely find those in a sushi-ya in Japan. Simplicity is King. Yes, yes, I know, I should stop complaining and go get my sashimi in Japan. If I could afford to, I would. And I would clean up on $9 and $12 bowls of fresh ramen too, unlike the $16 to $20 we pay in the US. At any rate, I gave the Yume Roll a 5 because it was large, unusual and flavorful. Yet, I wouldn't order it again because it was too busy for me. Size wise, look at my picture. It is quite long. For those who have complained about how thinly sliced the rolls are, what difference does it make so long as they don't fall apart when you pick them up. If you order a large pizza and it's cut into 12 slices instead of 6 slices, it's still the same size pizza! You pay by the pie, not by the slice. Same goes for Sushi Rolls. Whether they give you 10 pieces or 6 pieces, the overall roll size is the same. The Yume Roll is 2 to 3 rolls in size. Salmon Cilantro Roll - 4 - Unusual because instead of wrapping this roll in Nori (seaweed), they use Tomato Skin which melts in your mouth. We're in the Lodi area once a year. We might try Yume again. But it seems that Lodi is moving forward in the dining arena. read more

Every time we go here and I try to remember what we usually order I look for my Yelp review to guide my decisions only to realize I haven't written a review. I then wonder outloud to my husband, "why have I not written a review yet?" and then I forget. So here I am not forgetting and finally getting to this review! We have been to every sushi join in Lodi and keep coming back to Yume. This place is small and simple but the quality is the best in Lodi. If you want big fancy rolls drowned in sauce or some outrageous presentation then this is not the place for you. If you want good high quality rolls with fresh tender fish that doesn't require fancy sauces to cover up the taste then this is the place for you. The restaurant and rolls are simple and clean. The fish is so fresh and tender is literally melts in your mouth. Some of our favorite rolls include: the Yume Roll (its HUGE! but like 3 rolls in one for only $22), crunchy caterpillar roll, spicy dragon, and the sunset roll. Some of our favorite appetizers include: gyoza, squid vinegar and mixed tempura. I also absolutely love their nigiri, I usually get the hamachi and maguro nigiri. I feel that you can tell a lot about the quality of the fish by the nigiri because its just the fish and rice. Their hamachi and magura are so tender and clean. I've been to places where the fish was tough and I couldn't take a bite without having to cut it first but Yume's just melts in your mouth. But seriously, if you want good quality sushi that stands on its own this is the best place in all of Lodi. read more
