Ordered dinner from Shangri La last weekend and the food was ok but the service wasn't great and we didn't even dine in. We had to call the restaurant an hour and eleven minutes after we placed the order because they still hadn't started making the food. It ultimately took two hours for dinner to finally show up and when we got it, it looked like it had been drop-kicked from the car to our door. We decided to eat it because at that point we were starving. It was their $35 chef sushi special and was supposed to come with 4 different rolls (great deal!), but being that they were all smashed together, we really couldn't distinguish between them. Food was okay overall. The sesame chicken was a little different than what I'm used to, I was expecting breaded strips like most Japanese restaurants serve. That said, the young host and server were incredibly friendly and kind, which really stood out and made the experience sweet. I have celiac disease, so eating gluten-free is a medical necessity, not a preference. When I visited, I specifically asked if certain sushi rolls could be made gluten-free. The waitress seemed knowledgeable and assured me they could. When the food arrived, I asked again to confirm that the rolls were gluten-free, and I was told yes. I even double-checked a second time because of my celiac disease, and I was again assured they were gluten-free. Later, when I called to order the exact same rolls, I was informed that the rolls I received during my previous visit were actually not gluten-free because the sauce on them contains gluten. I was told that to make them gluten-free, the sauce would have needed to be removed. This means I was given incorrect information multiple times and was exposed to gluten despite clearly communicating my medical condition. For someone with celiac disease, this isn't just an inconvenience--it can cause significant health issues. I hope the restaurant improves its staff training regarding gluten-free menu items and cross-checks allergy-related requests more carefully. From the Yelp reviews, I didn't see too many people order chirashi at this restaurant so I decided to try it. I am so glad I did! It came out pretty quickly and the portion is so generous. The fresh thick slices of sashimi were more than enough to fill me up. The sushi rice was lightly seasoned and went well. At the end, I only ate about half the rice (because I usually eat smaller than average portions) and had to take a break before stuffing the last 3 pieces of sashimi in my stomach. The price was extra reasonable and certainly more than enough food for me. The agedashi tofu (not pictured) had more of a panko breading (instead of a light wet batter) and this made it a little heavier of a dish for me. My friends ordered a handroll, a bento box, and a singapore fried noodle. The singapore noodle was also gigantic and delicious, according to them. Overall this was a great place for a casual dinner. So for my nieces birthday we went here to celebrate, large group of about 24 people. It was a Friday night, but they let us make a reservation and sat everyone down quickly as they came in. With the amount of people in our group the service was on point! Quick to bring out the food, drinks, refills, anything we needed. The food was amazing, I had the teriyaki chicken bento box, so I got a little bit of everything, perfect amount of food and reasonably priced. They can accommodate large groups as well. Service- Always good. Have never had a bad experience. Food- A wide variety of food, limited if you are gluten free or have food sensitivities. Some dishes can be made with rice noodles, but may run into issues with sauces. Generally, the food is on the saltier side, but there is still so much to choose from. It's such a beautiful day that we decided to drive out to Lodi from Elk Grove to try this restaurant and I'm glad we did because everything we ordered was so good. We ordered the fried agedashi tofu which was so good I didn't even get a picture lol. The tuna ceviche with wonton chips was 10/10. You can also order this as a sushi roll. The Warrior roll and Lion King roll were also really good because they were really flavorful. My favorite thing about the rolls were that they were cut perfectly to the size that would fit in your mouth. I hate it when I have to bite into a sushi roll lol. The service was also 10/10 as the staff were attentive and always checked on us with everything we needed. This is important for us because we have two young children who always need SOMETHING. If you know, you know. We got the crème brûlée for dessert and the top was torched which my daughter loved because it had a bit of the crunchy sugar. I think for the price, this place is overall good. We ordered the honey walnut shrimp, chow fun, pan fried noodle, spicy tofu soup, chicken fried rice. It was for 5 of us. The pan fried was exactly what I envisioned. I thought the noodles would be dry and crunchy af with the gravy but it was soft. All good though, just a heads up, it was still good. Service was really nice and attentive. Also I like the spicy soup. It was actually spicy but just enough before it was overwhelming. It might be spicy for a lot of people (in this area) if ya catch my drift lmaooo. But if you can hang, try it because its delicious! Not understanding the mixed reviews. Maybe I came by on a good day but the food is fantastic. Got the tuna ceviche, stuffed mushrooms, and a few rolls. Each was super fresh and delicious. Also got some standard Chinese fare, Mongolian Beef and Sechzuaun chicken... both were solid. Service was excellent as well, we were greeted warmly and seated quickly. This place used to be good. We hadn't been for a long time, but decided to go there for dinner. Big mistake. First off, the hot tea was barely lukewarm and we told the server and she said it would take 20 minutes to get hot water. Our sushi roll came and I couldn't believe how small it was compared to a few years ago. It did not taste fresh. The soup and the rest of the dishes came at the same time - all barely lukewarm. We told the server three times, she offered to heat it up in the microwave. We were hungry and just ate it anyway. The bill came and it was $80. We asked for a discount because the food was cold and she said she couldn't do that. We asked to speak to the manager. He wouldn't come talk to us and told the server no discount. On my recent trip to California, I visited and had lunch with my dear friend. She wanted to try Shangri La located in historic downtown Lodi which creates a friendly and inviting environment. Once inside we were greeted promptly and enjoyed a nice environment, friendly/efficient service. The food selection was very fresh and good trying- Thai Spicy Tofu, Honey Walnut Prawns as well as Sweet and Sour Chicken and one other dish with white rice. staff was friendly and service was great, but overall the food was pretty mediocre. we started with the crazy edamame (fifth slide) and were not impressed. they were supposedly soy sauce tossed, but tasted and looked very plain. they had a tiny hint of spice, but no flavor. i've never seen edamame done this way and was super surprised when they came out. the rolls and roe were fine, not bad but also not our favorite. the orange chicken was not how we remembered it tasting (it's been years since we've been here) and we were disappointed in that. again, not bad just not amazing either. the mongolian beef was good and my second favorite dish behind the szechuan style green beans which were good and pretty spicy! by pretty spicy i mean we actually were really spiced out. the chow mein was good, but i wish it had a little more flavor. the food came with white rice which we didn't know and were happy to see. the portions were pretty big which is standard when the food is family style. for the portion size the prices were also pretty standard compared to other local asian restaurants. we were super bummed that this place wasn't what we remembered it to be. read more

Love me some Shangri La. This is my go to sushi spot. Whether it's dine in or a to go order they always make my food the best! I always get two spicy tuna hand rolls, and an order of the salmon nigiri and the hamachi nigiri with jalapeño. I also love love their key lime tini & all their other tinis are delicious as well (a bit strong but that's the point. You have one drink and you're good to go LOL.) Had a date night with my husband tonight, the food was fabulous. The service was good. We were finishing our second drink when we paid our bill, immediately after paying in cash with a 25% gratuity we were asked to move to a smaller table so they could seat a large party the restaurant was empty where the party could have been seated. I've been here many times and love the variety of the food for the price however today I was disappointed by the Teriyaki beef. It tasted purely of charcoal and was too chewy to swallow. We sent the dish back and went on to enjoy the rest of the meal. Until we received the bell and they refused to remove the price of the dish saying that we ate over 50% of the dish. This place never disappoints! We hadn't been here in a while and since we were in town we just had to stop for lunch. Our waiter was super awesome (we remembered each other from a long time ago) and so were the young guys helping out with refills and cleaning up. The food was delicious. My husband had some kind of roll with salmon and another mix of some sort. I had the chicken teriyaki bento box. Our water was never empty and we were definitely taken care of.
