Went to lunch with golf friends service was great had the sweet and sour chicken with rice. Really good

December 13, 2025 - Approx. 6:25 PM On the way back to Stockton from Jackson, was in the mood for Chinese food and Google Maps suggested this restaurant. SUMMARY: Good deal for take/out food in this era of high inflation. PROS: Was impressed with how fresh the vegetables were in my Beef w/Broccoli order. Plus a nice balance of flavors. Also, was surprised with the Yen Ching Fried Rice, as it was both filling & flavorful. Finally, the served portions equaled, if not exceeded, the charged prices. CONS: While I was waiting in the dining room for my orders, I was freezing. I don't think they even bothered to turn the heater on, or maybe it just wasn't working. But you can imagine that if you ate in the restaurant, your meal would go cold in a matter of minutes. It's a total shame, since the interior decor is rather nice. Also, while I enjoyed the aforementioned Yen Ching Fried Rice, I felt that the Yen Ching Chow Mein was not on the same level. While the flavors and ingredients were basically the same, I felt that the noodles chosen by the chefs were not top quality, especially taking into account that this is supposed to be one of their signature dishes. SUGGESTION TO MANAGEMENT: Sprinkle some fresh Sesame Seeds on the Dry Fried Chicken, and the dish will look visually appealing. And please turn on the heating in the restaurant during Winter. SUMMARY: If you want good Chinese food at reasonable prices, this place is definitely worth a try. read more

Friendly service, quick pickup. Food was fine but pretty bland, maybe we just went on a bad night but not great.

Started going here for take out when we moved to a mile away over 6 yrs ago. Food is consistently very good and ready when promised. Have eaten inside few times and service very good. Highly recommend. Getting more expensive but portions generous. Recommend highly. read more

It was our first time going here. We didn't even know there was a Chinese restaurant at this location. Anyways....we were craving for some Chinese food and we ended up at this restaurant. You won't have any problems finding parking. There is plenty of parking because it is in a shopping center. We really like the ambiance. There was a lot of historical culture inside the restaurant from the color of red to the dragons and various pictures. We were surprised with how big the restaurant is inside. We were seated right away and the service was good. They served us our tea and drinks right away. We didn't have to wait too long for our food as well. The food was pretty good. Came in from the Bay Area after a morning visit at a local museum. Lunch menu was reasonable starting at $12. Decor was dark so couldn't assess how full the restaurant was. Service was immediate and appropriate. Ordered Broccoli with prawns. Hot and sour soup was flavorful and delicious. Main entree came out quickly and still steaming -- hot off the wok. The prawns were bursting with flavor and the broccoli was cooked just right. My friend ordered sweet and sour chicken, which also came hot, flavorful and delicious. All in all, we left with a great experience at Yen Ching at Lodi. Would definitely return for lunch the next time we're in the area. read more

Best Chow Mien ever. Everything was superb. Egg rolls were light and crispy, and the Mongolian beef was nice and spicy. Perfect food!

My first time I tried this place out was last week. The food was ice cold and disgusting, and raw. I wasn't greeted and seated by a rude Asian woman who threw the menus at me and my daughter. After I ordered, I assumed maybe she was having a bad day and hated her job. After one bite of the food I knew the food had been old and definitely not fresh. I definitely won't be returning. Yen Ching has the best Chinese food around. Their prawns a la yen ching are the best. Service is great too.

We were a party of 6 on New Years Eve. We were put in a side room all by ourselves even though we had a reservation. The service was the worst I have ever had at this restaurant, we had to get out of our seat several times to go find a server to get tea, place another order and to request more napkins. The food was not hot, even the sizzling rice soup did not sizzle. Seated alone in a room was like being banished from the other patrons trying to celebrate the holiday. I want to support local restaurants, but you can't support an establishment if the servers are RUDE (especially when I wished them a Happy Chinese New Year!) and they don't listen! My husband ordered the luncheon Hot Braised Pork and she heard Sweet and Sour Pork! Then the waitress got prissy at my hubby because he corrected her. Boy she sure didn't like that! She ignored my hubby the rest of the meal. Then I got my "hot" tea which was really warm tea with only one tea bag which took a long time to steep - ratio wise, 1 little Itty tea bag in the huge pot of warm water? My tea looked like colored water with absolutely no flavor. Suffice to say, unless I am desperate for Chinese food again, this restaurant is now a miss! read more

Business claims they changed their hours and that they're open on Monday. So either they ignore their phone or no one is home.

Great food and service, but I really miss their delicious egg fu yung (eggs prices currently too high).

We ordered take out I imagine if you eat in the restaurant the food might be better. Everything was drowning in sauce and it took almost of the container. The egg rolls were completely cold. This place is not what it used to be. I ordered beef with green pepper, deluxe combination vegetables, chow mein and fried rice. Everything was so mediocre I could not believe it! Yeng Ching was a bit more expensive, but for the quality of food they had, it was totally worthwhile. Not anymore. I don't think I will go back there. Actually vegetable is so much crispier and fresher at Panda Express. It's really a pity. read more

We have eaten at Yen Ching for over 30 years. We ordered dinner two nights ago, broccoli beef, chicken chow mein, pork fried rice, pot stickers and chicken salad. Food had little taste as if they left out spices. Broccoli way over cooked and chicken in salad tasted like it was canned. Very disappointing. read more

Oh my goodness I am so glad I found this place! This was such a pleasant and delicious surprise!!! I got the calamari and it was done so well, not rubbery, hand battered I would assume. Very yummy. We also got BBQ pork fried rice, orange chicken, and Mongolian beef. Everything was full of flavor and fresh. Pleasant staff and rich ambiance. We will be back!!! read more

If you go to the bathrooms before you eat you will lose your appetite as they were the most filthy bathrooms we have ever seen, the toilets, sinks doors, walls, light switch have not been cleaned in years! It made us wonder what the kitchen looked like! read more

We are looking for a good Chinese Restaurant in Lodi. We picked Yen Ching because it is close to where we live and has good reviews. Because this was our first visit, we were very conservative in what we ordered: Beef with Broccoli, Almond Chicken, and BBQ Pork Fried Rice. My wife assessed Almond Chicken as bland. Beef with Broccoli was much better. I really liked the BBQ Pork Fried Rice. Service was very good; but, it was late and the restaurant was almost empty. Overall this was a nice three and a half star experience. Next time we will be more adventurous in what we order and will update this review as appropriate. read more
