hate having to write this review because, as a small business owner myself, I try to be empathetic and supportive of other businesses. That said, this experience needs to be shared -- especially given the complete lack of concern for customer experience and food safety. I'm visiting the area for the weekend and decided to grab soup dumplings with a friend. It was our "cheat day," so we ordered about $60 worth of food, which wouldn't have been an issue if it had been edible. We ordered two lunch combo plates, pork bao buns, and pork and vegetable dumplings. Food review: I ordered the General Chicken lunch combo. It tasted nothing like expected and was mostly thick breading covered in an overly sweet sauce that was supposed to be spicy. The rice was honestly the highlight of my meal -- though rice is hard to mess up... or so I thought, considering how sick I am while writing this, and that was mostly what I ate. My friend ordered the orange chicken, which looked and tasted exactly like mine--again, mostly breading. Her chow mein was cold in the middle, which made it seem like it was microwaved. I'm not usually nitpicky, but this was already turning into a bad experience. The pork bao buns weren't as bad as the rest of the food, but once we got to the "dumplings," we stopped eating altogether and threw everything away. The dumplings we ordered came out as steamed potstickers. I wish I had taken a picture--they looked awful. We gave them the benefit of the doubt since this place is literally called Dumpling House. That was a mistake. I took one bite of the dumpling with the sauce provided (soy sauce with chili flakes), which masked the taste. On the next bite -- without sauce -- I immediately noticed a horrible flavor. I smelled the dumpling and it had a rotten odor. At that point, I was completely done. When I got up to wash my hands and walked toward the bathroom, I took a closer look around. I noticed tin serving dishes that staff appeared to be eating directly out of, and a "wrapping" station set up on a table with wrappers laid out and a container of wonton filling just sitting there at room temperature. I don't know how long it had been out, but my friend mentioned it was there when we first walked in and assumed it was fresh. We were seated for about 30 minutes, and the filling remained out the entire time. Pork should absolutely not be left out that long -- and clearly, based on what we experienced, it wasn't safe. I've now spent the last six hours sick in my hotel room. Not only do I feel awful, but I'm also missing out on activities I had planned for this mini trip. Dumpling House -- please do better. Please care about your customers' health and safety. read more

Took away some offerings including xiao long bao, bbq pork buns, and pork potstickers. With exception of xlb, very good flavors with closer to authentic tastes that frankly were a surprise given the area. I don't usually get xlb to take away since it's very hard to maintain the hot soup in the dumpling but I tried and failed at the effort and don't at all blame the DH who warned me. Solid tasting food, expansive menu, good customer service (thanks Ben), and quick service. Small dining room with mostly booths and two tables put together. They had many extra chairs stacked for some reason in the middle of the room and storage must be an issue with the multiple boxes stacked along the side of the room. Food was served on chinet paper plates with different sauces in plastic cups. No frills spots. Not a big issue with me, the food is more important. We had a party of three and shared the wonton soup with extra big dumplings in a flavorful chicken broth, chicken/shrimp fried dumplings, chow mein, bbq pork bao, and sweet and sour pork. I wanted the bao to be filled with more meat filling, but everything tasted right on, hot and fresh. The iced tea came in an interesting plastic cup with no ice and no mention of sugar. My sister packs Splendas up in her purse so we had that covered. The tea came with a lemon wedge but tasted on the weak side. With all that, I'd definitely return and try more menu items. The star of the show was the chicken/shrimp fried dumpling. They were bigger than most spots and filled nicely. Parking wasn't an issue. Dumpling House is near Rancho San Miguel. My friend suggested this spot for an early dinner meet up. She had been before and said all the dishes were delicious and came with generous portions- perfect for sharing. The parking lot is very big, but was super busy when we stopped by for dinner. We were able to grab a table right away, there is a good mount of seating here and the staff greeted us right away. You can order/pick up takeout at the counter, or for dine in they'll take your order. We wanted to get some of everything but ended up with shumai ($10.98), pork and chive dumplings ($12.98), pork and veggie pot stickers $13.98), bbq Bao buns ($10.98) and garlic green beans ($9.98). The green beans came out first and were steaming hot and well seasoned. They tasted both fresh and healthy but also nice and garlicky. The potstickers and dumplings were well folded and cooked and had a good ratio of dough to filling. The flavors were great and the potstickers were just the right amount of crispy. The shumai was delicious and also had a good ratio of meat to wrapper. The bbq Bao were fluffy and hot and the filling had a nice bbq flavor. We stopped by the dumpling house on our way back from Los Angeles to Sacramento and decided to make a stop for pizza a couple doors down but saw this restaurant and decided to eat here instead, we ordered the Dinner for 2 and I have to say the portions are way more than we expected and everything was delicious! Classic small Chinese with very nice staff. Prices seem fair and the portion size was good. I got the delicious Wonton soup and was pleasantly surprised by how many wontons came in an order. I placed a DoorDash order for the Dumpling House In Lodi on Sunday, 2/4/24, during lunchtime. I decided to get the Shrimp & Pork Xiu Mai. The dumplings were, undoubtedly, flavorful and delicious. We were a little hungry so I took to Yelp (of course) and found this hidden gem. It was very close to Blossom where I got my facial and waxing done. We decided to dine in and the lady in the front asked us to sit wherever we liked. She took our order and we even made small talk in Cantonese. We ended up ordering some siu mai along with the shrimp and chicken dumplings. Our food came out fairly quickly, they were piping hot and super fresh. We were craving steamed buns and found a place while commuting to Lodi. The inside of the restaurant is quite nice, with a cozy look that reminds me of traditional Chinese-style art. The staff were quick to take my to-go order and even made accommodations for us. We ordered six steamed dumplings, half with red bean and half with veggies. We didn't wait longer than eight minutes. The steamed buns were so delicious and tasted like authentic steamed buns. The veggie steamed buns had spinach and bamboo, which went perfectly with the soft, warm buns. The red bean buns were easily some of the best buns we've ever had. They made a nice dessert that complemented the initial veggie buns. Chen, the man at the front, is super nice, and the female worker was also quite welcoming. I'll definitely add this place to my weekly visits. read more

Today was my first time and most definitely last time trying this place. I saw they had a 6 pc red bean dessert bao with pink and green accents meant to look like a flower and I had to try it! I was so excited. I love red bean and when I checked yelp reviews and searched the bao, two reviews had said how pretty it was so I was psyched. I added an order of deep fried BBQ pork bao and a rose milk tea and I was ready to eat! Unfortunately when I got home and opened the red bean bao, it was just small white bao :( I was very disappointed. They tasted ok; it's just dough and bean paste. The tea on the other hand was terrible. I drink a lot of milk tea and when I took a drink, I was totally overwhelmed with the rose flavor. I have had lots of floral milk teas, but they either dropped a whole bottle of rose flavor in that drink and tried to pretend it didn't happen, or they have no clue how to make milk tea. Either way it was disgusting. I had my husband try it and he literally yelled out "Woah!" I went to dump it and he said we should try to dilute it so we put half in another cup and added tea but it was just undrinkable. It was like drinking thinned out rose scented dish-soap or something. The BBQ pork bao was ok. I have never had them deep fried, which is why I tried it. It's really hard to mess up BBQ pork bao, but overall, the deep fry actually detracted from the over flavor and it just came off greasy. If you do decide to come here and order the bao, I would suggest just the plain BBQ pork, not pan fried or deep fried. I immediately went back to yelp because this place has a 4.5 star rating, but it was then I realized that all the almost all the reviews under 4 stars are recent, from the last few years, so I don't know if they just really went downhill or changed owners or what. Either way, I was really let down by the food here and there are lots of other places for good Chinese in the area so I do not ever see myself coming back. read more

This is the best chinese food i have had in Lodi and in the top five in the area (manteca to galt). Service was not warm and welcoming, but it was efficient. The ambiance is lacking- it looks like it is going to be low quality from the aesthetics, it felt like a donut or sub sandwich shop. Do not be fooled by the looks of this place, this food is upscale restaurant quality, served in to-go containers. Food portions are large, but tables are restaurant booths so if you have a large party, take it to- go. Also, the thai tea is above average. Super tasty. I can't wait to try more. Talk about a hidden gem, this place was a nice surprise! Its a pretty quiet and unassuming restaurant but the food is actually delicious and the value is unbelievable. My wife and I ordered the dinner for two which is around $40, and we got LARGE servings of beef and broccoli, pork chow mein and sweet and sour chicken, along with a nice side of egg rolls, cream cheese wontons, and these delightful fried dumplings. I was really shocked when I saw all the food because it seemed like a feast for $40! The cherry on top was the great service and polite staff, this place is worth a visit! read more

I've been missing the dum sum experience so when looking at restaurants serving some Dumpling House in Lodi popped up with solid reviews from fellow Yelpers which made it easy to order. You can pick up at the restaurant but we opted for delivery just after lunch on a weekend and the order got to us within 30 mins. | WHAT WE GOT | + Pan Fried Kimchi Dumplings + Steamed Pork/Chive Dumplings + Hot & Sour Soup + Pan Fried BBQ Pork Baos ________________________ I would pass on the hot & sour soup next time. It was filled with plenty lotus, mushrooms, and tofu, but it was more on the sour side of my preferences. Good option to share between 2-4 people though. Pork/Chive are solid options to get and the filling is flavorful. The wrapping is on the thicker side but I enjoyed it. They were wrapped beautifully as well! Last but not least the faves for our group were the kimchi pan fried dumplings and pan fried BBQ pork buns. I was thoroughly surprised with the kimchi dumplings since I'm not a total fan eating it as is but it added nice kick to the filling and went well with the fried exterior. They also add some spice on the exterior and balances out well with the sauce they make for it. As for the BBQ pork buns when are those ever a bad option to get?
