My family and I have a unique experience with this place. We have never set foot in this place! Yup! You read that right. BUT WE LOVE their garlic fried chicken! We order a platter, 25-50 pieces depending on what kind of party we're having. My FIL first introduced us to it. He used to live out that way and brought it to us once. It's been a staple at our family parties ever since. We live in Sacramento, order from this Lodi restaurant over the phone. Lisa always does a great job taking care of us when speaking with her. My FIL who lives with us now, will go and pick-up. We just ordered 25 pieces for Christmas and they were huge drumsticks pieces which the kids loved. Our guests have come to expect at our parties and will even ask if we'll be serving it as if their RSVP depended on it.. Wongs Mandarin Restaurant is a Older Hole in the Wall Mom and Pop place. They do very Basic Chinese food and plates !!! I rolled in there like a Boss perused the Menu and ordered the Combination Chow Mien plate to go!!!! Due to Covid Protocols in place Mings does to go orders!!! They cooked my Order Fresh as I waited!!! 15 Minutes Later I had my food Piping Hot out of the Wok !!!! I was pleasantly surprised when I saw my Chow Mien !!! It was a generous size portions of Noodles and Meat and Shrimp!!! It was also packed full of Flavor and Tasty!!! If I was in the Hood , I certainly would return!!!! I hate to be mean, especially since they're a mom and pop shop, but this place was not good. My wife and I are new to the area and, after seeing positive Yelp reviews, we decided to give this place a try. Here was my experience: Positives - friendly customer service - massive food portions - very good price Negatives - Food quality was awful. Literally everything, from the chow mein to the pork to the egg rolls, was dry and bland. - The restaurant smelt bad inside, akin to cat urine. - The garlic fried shrimp had fried chicken drumsticks inside it as well. Some may view this as a positive, but the food was so disappointing that we felt bad having to throw away more food. - When I walked in there was no one in the restaurant. Granted it was a Tuesday evening, but at 6:45pm you'd expect at least a couple of people to be there. - The area it's located is a little on the rough side with poor parking. This may not be their fault but it's something for customers to consider. In short, thought it had a great price with massive portions, the food was so poor that we ended up tossing 90% of it away. I hate giving bad reviews to small businesses and I really hope that they make it somehow, but until they start focusing more on quality and less on quantity I will never eat here again, nor can I recommend this place to anyone. read more

I stopped for lunch and was told I could either have the buffet or I could order from the menu menu. I checked out the buffet, and it looked OK so I gave it a try. It wasn't really that good. I consider myself a connoisseur of Chinese food, and this was just disappointing to me. The only thing that had flavor was the Kung pow chicken, and it was actually too spicy for me. There wasn't gravy for the egg and it was cold. The chow mein lacked flavor, as did the fried rice. The only good thing about it is that it was very inexpensive. read more

I order the lunch special with fried shrimp. Portions were generous and flavor was very good!! Was happy they offered a vegetarian option on fried rice and chow mein for special! Restaurant clean and lady who took order was helpful ! I'm not sure what took me so long to try this place, but will be going back! My only critique was egg roll was a bit over cooked and no fortune cookie. But cookie wasn't described in order so maybe it wasn't included for $6.95. First off, the woman who took my order was SO KIND. I couldn't help but smile when she was talking to me over the phone. They delivered to me even though I'm on the outskirts of town and the portions are HUGE! Ordered Kung Pao chicken, sweet and sour Pork, fried rice, egg foo yung, steamed rice, egg rolls, pork chow mein and 4 sodas all for $46!!! I no longer live in the area but I remember coming here 35 years ago and everything is pretty much exactly the same. This place isn't chic or healthy. This is old school Lodi/Stockton mom and pop Chinese food. The food is really good. They are super cheap and friendly. There food is a little greasy. I would say 3.5 as the price is good and the food is consistently decent. Obviously if you do the buffet it is better when fresh and not sitting. I'm shocked by the number of positive reviews. I don't normally post on yelp, but my experience was really poor so I felt compelled to do a writeup. I've worked in chinese restaurants before for many years and have ate at lots of similar hole in the wall mom and pop places so I can least judge the quality We ordered 5 dishes. House fried rice, beef chow fun, beef broccoli, honey walnut prawns and wor won ton soup Onto the positive, large portions and the fried rice was edible. The color was bland but the food was tasteless. It was obviously older recooked fried rice which they didn't cook from fresh white rice The beef in the broccoli dish and chow fun dish was really poor. Tasteless, thin and gristly. It's not well marinated and there's a lot of corn starch which results in a thick gloppy mess. It was inedible. I just ate the plain broccoli The honey walnut prawns had large amounts of batter. Prawns were fine The soup was the worst. Thin, oily and with a few won tons. Lots of filler items. The broth has a poor taste. But the oil makes it inedible Sorry. I would have liked to have given this mom and pop place a higher rating but I can't justify it read more

I used to be a big fan of this place since Steve and Della ran it. The new couple started out great and their food was on point. Within the last year or so it seems the cook lost has passion for food. Granted his food isn't authentic and that's not who his market is. His basics such as chow mein, fried rice, prawns and spicy chicken has suffered a slow death. Five Stars based on overall value. For the price you're not going to get more and/or better Chinese food in Lodi. The first thing I am impressed with are the Chow Mein noodles. They're using what seems to be more authentic then the standard spaghetti like noodle you get everywhere else in town. They are light and delicate, like rice noodles. Their garlic fried chicken is among the best fried chicken in town. I haven't tried much on the menu, I was not impressed with their sweet and sour pork or cherry chicken. I've been eating here ever since I was a kid, swear. It is STILL consistently delivering delicious meals. I would go as far as to say it's the best Chinese food restaurant in East Lodi. Our Family has been going to Wong's my entire life. When I was little we used to go in for the all-you-can eat but as time has passed the area has really gone downhill. Ownership has changed many times throughout the years, and you can always tell by the changes in the menu and flavors. I only go here for take-out at this point because I won't stay in this neighborhood for long. The food has great flavor and the prices are decent. I just wrote a review of this restaurant on google plus.com, but i'll just restate my opinion because i want my word to get out there. This restaurant is absolute garbage. Me and my friend tried the mongolian beef and white rice, and we took 2 bites and took off. Instead of mongolian beef, we were given old meat swimming in gravy with broccoli and carrots. White rice was also served, and it tasted stale and old. The customer service was lacking. It seemed like the faster my friend had his card swiped, the happier the man would be. People who believe this restaurant is anything above mediocre have never had quality chinese food. The only thing i can say is the can of soda was cold. That was a good thing. The napkins were top quality as well, we used them to wipe down the greasy table we sat at. Laughably bad chinese restaurant, please avoid. read more

But, it's relatively cheap (I don't remember the exact price) and it's the only chinese place in town I could get food, eat, and be out in time for the end of my lunch break.
