The food is good, easily a 4+, but they need to work out the kinks. The staff is a little gruff, but well-intentioned, but the food service itself needs to be tweaked. We ordered an appetizer, green onion "pancakes" chicken and shrimp pan fried dumplings, pork buns and an entree of shrimp chow mein. The chow mein came out first, WAY first. I tried to save some to go with the other food and by the appetizer came out MUCH later, the chow mein was cold. Then several minutes later the dumplings came out, and several more minutes later before the buns showed up. They need to figure out how to get the food on the table in the right order or at least the same time. I heard a lot of yelling in the kitchen, so I think they're aware of the issue. At $15 in Orange for the signature dishes, I expected a lot more. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy when I arrived, and I had to wait more than 20 minutes for the food to arrive. I thought that if they were making the food fresh, then this wait was acceptable. However, while the dumpling may have been made fresh, the beef noodles definitely weren't. The noodles themselves were from dried pre-made noodles, and there are many other options that are far superior to this. If you're going to say you're a taiwanese beef noodle place, you gotta have the mustard greens either already in the bowl, or (preferably) available as a condiment for people to add. There were no mustard greens at all here leading to major lost opportunity. Would not come back again ever. read more

Came here for christmas and ordered food. Waiter was impatient and kept asking us if we were ready to order and would audibly groan when we said we needed some more time. Flavor was great and it contained a very good amount of soup once you broke the skin. Tastes great just with vinegar and soy sauce! Chili oil wonton: Amazing. It had a very nice kick. It has a sweeter chili oil sauce that I wish I had ordered fried rice to mix in to use up the rest of the sauce. Beef noodle soup: Very light and comforting soup base. Had a lovely experience tonight at this new 3 week old restaurant! We had a small wait for a table, but they were bussing as fast as they could - happy to see a new place in this location doing well! We ordered a variety of dumplings, buns, green onion pancakes, garlic cucumbers and fried rice - items come out hot as they are cooked so dinner is a leisurely event. Everything was really tasty - well seasoned, cooked well, and hot. They were sold out of the wonton soup which we would like to try next time. The family and staff was very attentive and super friendly. They brought us a Chi Forest limited edition sparkling water to try, and an extra order of green onion pancakes as a thank you for being patient with the service - which was a bit slow but their attitude and the food more than made up for that. I think they'll continue to work out a bit of the logistics and smooth the service out over time - but we will definitely be back and wish them much success! read more

It's hard to find one location where my kids, husband and I all like the food, yum dumpling is one of few places that have made the list. Located on Chapman in the old Cherry on Top space this place is a gem. We got the orange chicken and pork soup dumplings; both were delicious. The dumplings are good size and the orange chicken is the best my son has ever had. I saw lots of people ordering the soup and it smelled really good. You can get takeout, delivery, or eat in. We chose to eat in and the restaurant is lovely. Clean, courteous, and kind staff. Definitely recommend if you are in town and can't get a table at Din Tai Fung. read more

New spot with good dumplings and noodles. So far, I've tried the following: Beef noodle soup: sufficiently beefy that it hits the spot. A touch of spice and a dash of chili, along with beef that's got a bit of chew, but in a good way. Pork chow mein: a little greasy but it tastes good. The pork is sliced larger than I'm used to and the veggies are cooked so quickly that they're still tender-crisp. Green onion pancakes: thin like I like them, but again, a little greasy. Yummy scallion flavor though. Pork, shrimp, and leek pan-fried dumplings: I love pot stickers and these are tasty. They go great with a dipping sauce of soy and a dollop of their chili oil. Soup dumplings: good, porky flavor and enough juice to satisfy. The skin is a bit thick and will stick to your chopsticks, so don't touch the dumplings unless they're cool enough to not scald your mouth when you eat them. You run the risk of tearing the skin if you have to peel your chopsticks away. I had to ask for ginger, which was cut up for us, in bigger strips than I'm used to. Chili oil wontons: the wontons were good, but the chili oil isn't like the Sichuan version at all; it's the garlicky thick soy sauce version. Not a fan of it, but that's personal preference. Pan fried pork bao: Soft, fluffy bread with a delicate, crispy bottom and seasoned pork inside. Unfortunately I encountered some bao that had a slightly raw filling, so I took them home and reheated them. Happy to say they were really good as a late-night snack! The homemade hot bean paste is good as well. Cucumber salad: Good, but could use more salt and some garlic chunks. This version was more on the sweet side with a touch of soy sauce, but I added their chili oil (which is great: spicy and nutty) and it improved things. Overall, good food run by a hardworking team in a part of town that doesn't have a lot of choices for authentic Chinese food. I'm looking forward to going back. If they start selling frozen dumplings, I'll likely be there once a week to stock up. read more

Stumbled upon this hole in the wall, hidden gem, while looking for a place to eat, rather late with kids. Parking is going to be an issue as this place gets more and more popular. We had to park in another lot, and walk over. The food itself was great. A little bit on the salty side, but yummy. They ran out of the hand-pulled noodle while we were there, so we only had one order of that. The rice noodle was still very good. The reason I'm docking 1 star, I feel there was literally no customer service. It took a long time to get the menu, get our orders in, and at least 15min to get our check and box after requested. I understand it's a new restaurant, but I listened to the young man chat with a couple other tables, including the one behind us, for at least 5 min. Super nice, chatting, with only the Caucasian-looking customers. The Asian customers - nothing. No, see you again, come back again, etc. I don't need the chit chat, but then he stood around behind the counter, while we were still waiting for our check and box to go. We will come back, but I do hope they get more efficient and equal with the service to all customers. * Also, in true Asian style, 1 napkin per person, and never got around to asking for more paper or water, bc the 1 guy was too busy.
