My husband and I hired Your Local Movers several weeks ago when we relocated from San Diego to Palm Springs. After posting a quote request on Yelp, Hunter from Your Local Movers was one of the first to respond. His price was reasonable, his reviews decent and he was military so we went with him. First off, the positives: His team of two was on time, they worked their butts off and got us relocated very quickly. Unfortunately, there were a few significant hiccups that occurred.  1. When they arrived they had no wardrobe boxes. I was pretty sure when I booked them that they had advertised as having them (who moves over 100 miles and doesn't need wardrobe boxes?). Bottom line is I had to run out at the last minute to Lowes and spent $70 on wardrobe boxes. 2. While unloading, a DVD media rack was destroyed (approx. $150). While the movers were upfront about it to us, there was no discussion/guidance as to how to resolve/file a claim. The only offer was to throw away the remains into the dumpster which we agreed to. 3. Within 3 days we set up a desk they had moved and it had been damaged during the move. One of the bottom supports had been damaged and the desk literally started to crumble before our eyes (approx. $300). 4. My husband then emailed Hunter, and I was surprised to find out that the movers had told him about the DVD rack and he never contacted us about the loss. Again, no discussion about a reimbursement, filing a claim or even how to pursue one. He requested photos of the desk which, unfortunately, we could not provide because we had to toss the desk to make room for a replacement.  Bottom line: I was disappointed with the company. I seek out military contractors because their code of conduct is usually impeccable and they go out of their way to make things right. I'm sorry to say that didn't happen in this case. read more

They came early which is 'on time' in my book and followed us to storage to get a headboard then bring it to our place. They were friendly, quick and hard working as this couch was heavy as heck and had to go up a flight of stairs. No crazy up charges at a fair price and quick turnaround time. They wore masks and kept their distance which was much appreciated. If you are looking for quality, affordable movers, look no further! These guys are top notch. The customer service and communication from Hunter is better than expected. He responds almost immediately and gave me the reassurance I needed in reserving movers for the big day. The guys showed up in the window they promised and got straight to work. I was worried that my bed would be an issue as it has storage drawers underneath and a shelf filled, detached headboard but they figured out how to disassemble it and move it in no time at all! It took me a week to set the thing up from Ikea so I was very impressed. They moved efficiently and had good spirits about them the whole time. They checked in regularly on which items needed to go and which were staying and had all the supplies to protect our electronics and furniture. I loved the fact they were all veterans and was happy to provide them with refreshments and a cash tip at the end for all their hard work. Hunter and his team are professionals, as expected when the business is run by a Marine veteran (and honestly the only one I know who didn't RAH me to death) so you will get the best business out of his team. They were late but it was due to another issue, HOWEVER communication is key, meaning he let me know ahead of time that they'll be running late and what not, so i was able to do what i need to do before they showed up. They were efficient, quick and courteous. They made sure my stuff is taken care of and good to go. But just make sure you communicate actually how much stuff you have for them so they bring the right truck for the business (I had more stuff than what I had told them, I pretty much underestimated the move) however I will not dock them points against that. If you want fast movers this one is for you. But take pictures of your items they are moving and sign a contract for damages. I have items missing that they say because they don't "remember" seeing them they didn't exist. They damaged my washing machine and claimed it was just normal wear and tear but repairman wrote up it was caused by the move and stacking items on it. Movers deny this and won't make it right. Told a replacement was being sent for a damaged stereo that never showed up. Paid over $700 fixing damaged items. Have been told I'm lying and accused of making up the damages. Never would I recommend them to anyone. read more

I absolutely hate giving bad reviews, but these guys really deserve it. I don't know if Hunter hires new guys or his guys just don't care anymore. I had a very similar experience as my other fellow one star review, Vihra. I'll make my long story as short as possible- my husband and I were out of he country when escrow was closing on our new home, so we recruited our realtor and my husbands parents to over see the moving from our 2 bedroom townhome to our new 2 story house. We packed EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING! And moved 95% of the house into the garage so these guys would be off to a good start. No appliances were moved, and the only things upstairs were 2 relatively light dressers (I've been moving these dressers for the last 10 years, typically with another woman. They're nothing to stress over), a queen mattress, 2 nightstands, and a disassemble bed frame. The couches which were still in the house are love seats so again, pretty light, a kitchen table which was probably the most difficult thing in there and a coffee table which is dense, heavy wood but small so could easily be moved with a dolly and there were a few boxes downstairs in the house, the rest was in the garage ready to go. This should have taken 1 hour TOPS with three guys to get our things out of the first home. According to my realtor it took them 3 hours. Why??! HOW?! what were they doing that would take so long when 95% of my belongings were just feet from your truck in the garage. Ok, now they are at the new home which is 10 mins down the road and my mother and father in law are there. My mother in law who is the most literal person I have ever met in my life, like annoyingly literal said these guys went back and forth "you take it. No, you take it, it's heavy" to the point that she (a 65 year old yoga enthusiast)started moving boxes!! She said she would move two boxes for every one they would move!! Are you kidding me??! My husband and I arrived home a little over 2 weeks later to find the damage on top of the ridiculous story from our family and realtor. My broom was bent in half and smashed flat, I can only assume it was run over, they missed the driveway and ran over our lawn cracking a pipe located under ground (pictures included. It's a little hard to see the tire track because it was 3 weeks later and the grass was overgrown), broke the crank off our hose reel, put a hole in a wall, and big chip out of the paint of another wall (the only room that didn't need to be painted. Now I need to get a color match but you know how that goes, it's going to look like patch work till I paint the whole room). Thanks guys! Hunter assured me there's no way his guys would take their time to move my things to make more money, they had another move that day. Um, they finished with my things 6 hours later (meanwhile I was quoted 4 hours by other movers who where unaware everything was already in the garage). So you mean to tell me they moved another house after 6pm?? I call bs. Then you tell me that sometimes difficulties arise?? And what might those be??! Hunter has asked to come over to my house and chat with me, but I'm not interested, nor are my in laws. They've wasted plenty of our time and money. If you don't care about your time, things, or hard earned money, hire these guys. If you don't like drama but don't care about your money, save yourself the trouble and light $1000 on fire then call ANYONE else. Hunter needs to take a look at his employees, stop making things up, and admit when he's wrong. He's not interested in doing the right thing. He told me he can't reimburse me for any of the time because he's already paid his guys and he will lose money. What about the money you stole from me and my family?! It happens in business, sometimes you're wrong and you lose money. That's the nature of it. That's what it means to be a business owner. Great customer service, hunter, I applaud you. Thanks but no thanks, I'm not interested in you coming to my home and acting like a handy man now. You aren't even good at the thing you claim to be good at. And again, my in-laws and I both paid for this move. They paid whatever absurd amount was over what we had been quoted. Thank god my mother in-law started moving boxes, who knows how long this would have gone on. The only way this can be corrected is reimbursement for the extra time that your snails were clowning around. But according to you, it can't be corrected with money. That's what this whole thing is about hunter, money and damages, my family can't get their time back and neither can I. I would hate for you to lose money that you didn't earn. Having experience moving 4 times in the last two years, we were shocked when we had packed our entire 1bd 1ba apartment (minus the couches, bed, and desk) and it took the team 2.5 hours to load it onto the truck (with the help of an an Elevator mind you). In practice, this should have taken 1.5 hours given that the first leg was mainly pushing boxes for 100m (not two football fields, which is the equivalent of over half a mile). To summarize what went wrong - I shouldn't have carried my mattress onto the truck, my husband shouldn't have risked his life holding our couch two stories up because they didn't wrap it correctly, and my 70 year old parents shouldn't have unloaded all of our boxes at the new location. The individuals helping us were young boys in their 20s, very nice don't get me wrong, but very very slow. There's a certain amount of speed you expect from movers, and these guys unfortunately moved at the rate of molasses. read more

Andrew & Hector were punctual, kind and both had the most calming presence about them-- this is great especially during a big move like this. They were professional and really took great care in packing all of my items and loading them into my POD. I requested an estimate through Yelp from several moving companies. Your Local Movers was one of them. I received many responses in that first hour, however, Hunter at Your Local Movers was the only one to give me an honest estimate of how much it would cost to move my family out of our 2-story, 5-bedroom home. Having moved a couple of times in the last few years, I knew it would be a full-day job, yet most of the other companies gave me the 3-hour-minimum line. Get outta here. After reaching out to Hunter and a few others, I ultimately decided to hire Your Local Movers because of the realistic estimate, Hunter's professionalism via phone and email, and the fact that the movers were amenable to putting down runners and/or taking their shoes off to protect the carpet. On moving day, Hunter's team - Mike, David, Will, and Caleb - showed up promptly. They were all pleasant, professional guys who worked diligently to disassemble the furniture and load the truck. We even had to ask whether they'd taken a break because it didn't seem like they had! Bonus points for being sweet to my rambunctious 5-year-old, even when he jumped on the couch they were trying to lift. At the end of the day, they finished right on the 8-hour dot, just as Hunter had estimated. Hunter gave us a discount for paying in cash, so it came out to be less than we anticipated. (And Hunter too) Hunter and his team helped us over 2 days to unload 2 POD's as well as move half a truck worth of furniture and boxes from a 2-story condo to a 2-story house in San Marcos. Both days went very well and they moved very quickly and efficiently, they even helped my father and I move what they termed, this biggest, heaviest Refrigerator they had ever seen in their life! They did a great job of splitting up labor and bringing boxes and items in while others took them upstairs (As my wife refuses to let anyone wear shoes on the new carpet upstairs) But at the end of the 2 days, all of our new house was moved into the right rooms and coming together with minimal wall bangs from the 5 or 6 companies and contractors we have had in and out of here over the last few weeks. Let me start by saying that I have hired 9 moving companies over the past 11 years. Your Local Movers led by Hunter rank in the top two of all companies I have worked with. I requested quotes from several movers using Yelp. Some replied with auto emails, Hunter reached out within minutes. He conducted a very thorough interview and explained his fees and options very clearly. I was impressed with him from the start. One of his questions was about my biggest concerns in this move. I explained how many times I had moved and my biggest concern was the crew. Too many times I thought I was hiring a great company, only to find out the crew looked like they just rolled out of the local bar. It didn't hurt when Hunter mentioned his military background. But to be honest I've been fooled before. Not this time... Hunter showed up with Zack and Colin and made quick work of a very heavy move. All three were very hard workers, extremely careful, and great personalities to boot. Hunters rates were not the cheapest, but they were not the most expensive either. I've worked with the cheapest, and I've worked with the very expensive. That's no way to pick a mover. In this case I went with my gut and I won. I won't have to do that again... Hunter was quick to respond with a phone call to get all the details of my move and provided a reasonable quote with my short of notice. The day before the move I was contacted to confirm the time and details, and again in the morning of the move Hunter communicated their exact arrival time. My move was mainly into an upstairs condo and both Hunter and his co-worker Ehran were troopers! They were so careful in the tight stairway and hustled to get the job done in the time estimate he provided. They were both so friendly and good natured. We sold our condo in Carlsbad , after 28 years, in July 2020. Purchased a house in vista but couldn't move in until September. We moved with a San Diego company, to a storage unit-we had a 3 bedroom home, with a lot of furniture. The company was ok but a bit of a hustle , in my opinion. Hired Your Local Movers, in San Marcos to move from the storage to our new home in Vista. It is hard to say in words the difference of the 2 companies-night & day! By that, the local movers were so much more professional in the pre move and the post move. Your local movers, San Marcos would get a rating of 10 from us, the other company would get a 6. A family in our apartment building hired these movers. They were not wearing any masks or face coverings. We asked them to put on masks that it was a requirement in our building. They refused and scoffed at us. Laughed at me when I told them we are in a purple tier. I called the office and spoke with Hunter. He advised he would speak with them and call me back. I never heard back from Hunter, this was in the morning. We left later in the day and find the workers still without masks. Quickly called Hunter, he would check with them. He called me back and told me that they told him they were wearing masks. I repeated they were not. He did not want to continue the conversation. I am a senior but I have my wits. I am also most at risk. This company and their employees do not care about the pandemic. A shame. read more

Do you need to move? Your local movers got your back! We moved about 140miles away from San Marcos and they delivered flawless service. Hunter, the owner of Your Local Movers, explained how the service works in detail on the first phone call which helped me greatly on my moving and budget planning. Samuel and Andrew were punctual. They showed up with a huge truck about 15min earlier than promised time! My condo was located in the second floor and about 50ft away from parking lot, so it makes hard to move any heavy/bulky items. Samuel and Andrew were efficient, moved all of our moving boxes in a shorter amount of time than expected. They communicated their ETA 10min away from destination. Super polite, great communication by calling ahead of time and arrived when they said, 12 minutes out. Friendly and considerate when moving mattress and accessories into house. We have a threshold that is about 3 inches higher than ground, I appreciate that he didn't try to force the rollers and yank it over. They delivered a split eastern king mattress, frame, and box spring. It was a piece of cake for these 2 guys that dropped everything off in 5 minutes. This was for a high school band mattress sale, but would consider them for my own personal move. I did receive a $5 gift card for review but I wouldn't write a five star if it wasn't deserved. read more

This is the last time we hire this outfit. Many items were damaged and even though his workers took pictures, Hunter will not respond.. They damaged antique chairs, wine cooler and other valuable items but no response. Hunter came to our home to inspect items and stated he would return, never came back. Will not give us his insurance co, name or policy number. Will not answer our calls and even though we have text's confirming our damage, no reply. I wonder why he only uses his first name. Never again, make sure you have insurance for your goods if you use them. read more

Horrendous. First, my mother asked the workers to wear masks due to the pandemic. One of the workers happily complied; the other tore it off with an attitude as soon as he walked into another room. Then, the truck was NOT fully packed, but they got sick of working so they told me they couldn't fit anything else. A couple years ago when we packed a smaller truck ourselves, we managed to make it all fit, and "professional" movers couldn't do it in a bigger truck?! Oh, and that was AFTER my husband had already taken a small moving truck of our stuff on the first load! We had to throw tons of stuff away because our lease was up and we had no way to take it with us! The movers got to our house a day earlier than us and put everything in our garage instead of the rooms labeled on the boxes. So here we are over 2 months later and I'm still not fully unpacked because i have a ton of other things to do and have to carry the heavy boxes one by one by myself. If all I had to do was unpack instead of move too-heavy boxes around, I'd have been done by now. Why did I hire a moving company if I was going to do it all myself? Then, we had dressers, a nice (expensive!) kitchen set, and our treadmill BROKEN!!! Not a surprise since they didn't blanket wrap anything, even though we were told they would. (Mattresses and box springs were filthy, too!) Hunter said he'd refund us $200, which was VERY forgiving of us, but he never even did that. He never returned phone calls once we told him the treadmill was broken. Absolutely do NOT recommend this company at ALL. read more

I spoke to Hunter about a moving job from Oceanside to the LA are. He told me he would go look at the house he would be picking up from since what he was moving was on the second floor. He said he wanted to figure out how many people he would need. This was a few minutes away from where he lived. He said he would go look at it the next morning at 10:00AM. I gave him the address and set it up with the pickup house when they should expect him. Hunter never showed up, never contacted the pickup person. Never responded to me. No double time which was awesome! 3 movers, 62 ft truck just 4 our stuff only. Moved us from SD 2 bedroom apt. , 3rd fl to our new place Oceanside, CA IN 6 hrs..
