I enjoy the pepper that is on the benny and tater tots as it adds additional flavor and the little bit of dijon mustard on top of the benny pairs well with each bite. I loveee their homemade spicy ketchup (it's not spicy) it pairs very well with the yolk tots! Overall, a solid brunch option with a pretty big menu, though it's not my personal favorite compared to some other spots in the city. Chicken and Waffles ($25)Apparently this is the classic order at Yolks, going all the way back to their food truck days. The portion was huge -- four waffles and a generous amount of fried chicken. That said, both the chicken and waffles could've been crispier. The eggs also weren't poached that nicely; we asked for medium and got hard instead. We visited Yokes on the Taylor Swift air for her weekend. It was a lot of fun coming here because they played Taylor's music, and all the employees were happy and wearing friendship bracelets. There was a 20-minute wait, but it was a decent morning, so it was not bad to wait outside the restaurant. We took a little stroll around the block. They do ask you to finish your meal in 45 minutes, so I feel like that's a little rushed, but it also allows you to avoid waiting for so long. They were swamped, and our server was friendly but not wholly attentive, as so much was happening. The expresso martinis were very tart. Our drinks didn't arrive until the end of the meal, but the restaurant took off one of the drinks. The grilled cheese and tomato was the best of our two meals. Such a great brunch spot! They are located on W Broadway, only a 5min walk from the Canada-line station. They use Yelp waitlist so you have to get there to put your name down. We went there on a Saturday morning and only had to wait 15mins for a table of 6!! It is a small restaurant so they don't allow for a group larger than 6 people. The food and drinks were soo good! Despite the name of this little establishment, they serve tofu scramble to replace your eggs :) I'm not a big fan of eggs so this was an amazing surprise for me. When we were here a few years ago there was always a lineup out the door, and today there was not only no lineup but pretty quiet inside as well. Now I know why. Here it is. The food was pretty bad and the service was worse. Our server I think must have been new. Not new at the restaurant, but I'm guessing new at serving in general, because she was overbearing. It was interesting to watch actually, because as soon as the manager showed lack of interest, so did the server. Human behaviour.....fascinating! When I ordered the Florentine Benny, the server asked which side I'd like assuming that it came with a side. It didn't. $1.50 for potatoes. I don't mind paying extra for sides. What I do mind is being taken for a fool. I'll tell you how I was taken for a fool....it's very simple. "Which side would you like?" - no charge "Would you like a side?" - extra charge. Moving on........ The Florentine Benny with my buck fifty potatoes were probably one of the worst I've had. I asked for medium poached and it was hard. The english muffin....oh the english muffin....that was a monstrosity in its own right. It was beyond soggy...it was so soggy that it was wet (see pic.) It tasted like I was eating a wet sponge, and honestly there was a mini gag reflex at one point. The eggs were cold and the potatoes were too oily for my taste. Since they got our order wrong, when the cheque arrived I made sure to go over it. This is where it gets a bit bizarre, while I was reading the cheque, I felt this head right by mine and over my shoulder. Came as a group of two. We waitlisted around 10.30 AM and managed to get in around 11 AM. Only half an hour, pretty quick compared to other brunch places in Vancouver. I ordered Buttermilk Fried Chicken. My order arrived, and it was pretty disappointing. Chicken and waffle were not crispy at all. At least the chicken was tender. Hashbrown was mushy, and soggy inside, it was horrible. Hollandaise was a bit on the thinner side. The only thing they did right was poaching my egg to medium. Service was ok, they check with you once in a while. Something to note, they want you in and out ASAP. Now the food..it was okay, everything could use salt, the ketchup had a chipotle taste that I couldn't get down with and they did not carry regular ketchup so that's worth noting. I came here with a few friends on a snowy day. We called several times wanting to check if they were open, but their phone went straight to voicemail. Luckily it was open and there were lots of tables. I had the build your own breakfast - scrambled eggs with chives and butter was silky soft and very yellow and yummy. The 3 hash browns were so flavourful and melted to my mouth. The English bangers were fine. You can have a few different types of toast and I tried the multi grain and sour bread. Always an amazing experience when I get to visit Yolks! I should really venture out and try something new cause everything looks amazing in the menu, but the chicken and waffles with a side of beignets always hits the spot! The service is always great! The hostess are always welcoming and offer help when trying to figure out what to eat.. I know it's their job, but they always seem to go above and beyond. I feel like in the past there wasn't an option to make reservations, so the line was always long, but now that they have capabilities of excepting reservations, make sure you get yours early cause the times go quick. As far as ambience, the restaurant is a nice size where you don't necessarily feel on top of people, or hear everyone's conversation. Well worth the wait if you can't make reservations! read more

I've been to Yolks Hastings location, my first time in this location. With all the construction around Broadway with hard to get parking. I walked several blocks up and found 2hour free parking. Also near skytrain station. Menu is similar to what I remember, I often get their eggs benny but I was craving something on the sweet side, and I'm glad I did. I ordered the french toast. It wasn't overly sweet but enough to still the craving. I love that coconut crust and lemon curd on the side. It was just wanted I wanted. My friend ordered the eggs benny with pork belly, its her go to. She lives walking distance and here often. Service was great, not super big location, great breakfast / brunch atmosphere, I love that you can see the the kitchen. The menu is short and sweet; sweets, bennies and classics. - Chicken and waffles ($18.95) - Belgian waffle, buttermilk fried chicken, chicken gravy, pickled jalapenos, maple syrup and two poached eggs. This dish was worth the wait; not 100% sure but I think they gave us a generous (maybe double) portion. The chicken was delicious; incredibly moist and juicy. The waffles were crispy. The pickled jalapeno was a perfect bite of heat. - House-cured wild BC salmon & fresh avocado ($18.95) - fresh arugula and dill creme fraiche. We opted for the truffle-lemon potatoes. The eggs were well poached. Hollandaise sauce didn't feel heavy but did thicken up if you ate it slowly. Salmon was very fresh. Met with 3 friends/colleagues for brunch. Even though I know 1 pm on a Tuesday isn't the most popular brunch hour, I was surprised that we were seated right away! The staff was all nice and our waitress was attentive. I had the Grilled Asparagus and Double Cream Brie Bennie with a side of Fresh Fruit. So so good! I actually started with the fruit - I appreciated how fresh all the fruit was, and I think the light dressing of maple syrup and lemon really elevated it. The eggs were poached perfectly and the combination of egg yolk/hollondaise/brie was delightfully rich and creamy. I got this even though the menu listed olive oil as one of the toppings because the rest of the concept appealed to me, but I am very sensitive to oily food and was worried that an olive oil topping might ruin it for me, but I actually did not notice any excess oil, so that was good. The brie and asparagus here also tasted very fresh. I asked for a side of hot sauce but barely ended up using it because I wanted to just savour the dish as-is. With the fruit as a side, I didn't feel heavy at all after eating this, just satisfied. I also had a decaf americano to drink and it was quite nice. I didn't end up needing it, but they do free refills on the decaf americano just like they do with the coffee since they don't have decaf coffee. Price is okay. Obviously much more expensive than if you just made it at home and not an everyday thing, but the quality was there, it's in line with what similar places are charging, and considering rising food prices and rent I think what they charge is reasonable. read more

Luckily our timing worked out and we didn't have to wait for a Saturday brunch spot. Cassidy looked after us and made sure we got everything in a timely manner and was friendly when I even asked how many eggs she thinks they go through in a day here. With a name like Yolks, you expect everything to have an egg in it, and that it does. I chose the Portobello Mushroom Benedict with a Rose Mimosa and my partner had the Chicken & Waffles with a Blueberry Lime Lemonade. We both shared a serving of Beignets because we never see these in Vancouver. The egg was (as you guessed) perfectly poached. The benedict was good, sauteed mushrooms added a texture to it. I would not order the beignets again, they were more like donuts and lacked the pillowy centers. Everything was filling and I can see why this place is always busy. Been here a few times and I noticed little changes that's made me less a fan of Yolks and finding it just OK, especially when there's a long wait. Tip: On a weekday, we waited less than 15min at peak lunch hour vs 30min+ if you come on a weekend. The 2 egg benedicts are $11.25 without add-ons. After trying their Bacon vs Ham, I prefer the Ham with spinach and the dijon sauce which takes the benny to the next level. However, on my recent visit, the dijon sauce was barely noticeable and each benny had just 1 small spinach leaf. The ham was also cut thinner. The extra side order of lemon truffle hash for +$4.05 taste like regular potatoes now with a truffle oil aftertaste; so it was expensive for what it was. I added Yolk's Spicy Ketchup available at the table to help get some flavor in there. On the pro side, they do know how to poach their eggs just right and the hollandaise sauce had some good flavors; wish they gave a bit more sauce. And without the side order, price is reasonable. I've also tried their Chicken and Waffles and I wouldn't get it here again. There are other places that serve this better and this place is really known for their egg dishes (hence the name). Other pros: Service was very friendly and prompt. And when there's a wait, at least you can leave your name and phone # with the hostess so you can wander the neighborhood until they call you back when seats are ready.
