Wild Salmon & Artichoke omelette and Mediterranean Omelette
    Daniel S.

The service was excellent. We ordered the wild salmon and artichoke omelette and the Mediterranean omelette. The homemade toast was very good. I did not care for the potatoes. It had a spice on it, I think paprika, that I just did not like. Good coffee too!

This restaurant always seems packed and now I understand why. The breakfast foods I tried were really good! We ordered The Works omelette which was packed with ingredients, and 2 pieces of French toast with homemade strawberry sauce. Both I would recommend. Remember to add yourself to the waitlist using their tablet on the left when you enter!

I've been meaning to write this review but was selfishly keeping this West End gem to myself. I eat at this restaurant every chance I get. It's my go to for breakfast in all of Vancouver. The food is perfectly delicious and consistent which is very hard to do. I've never had a meal or mocha that wasn't 10/10. I get the Deluxe breakfast almost every time, the scrambled eggs are magic and the home made sour dough is rustic, flavourful and perfectly toasted. The best part of this place is the staff. HANDS DOWN, the best group of people. They're warm and welcoming, it's like having breakfast with friends. Robyn, Ralph, Lorena, Rowan and Veda feel like old friends now. Whoever owns this little place needs to do whatever they can to keep this group of staff happy so they never leave.

Neighbourhood cafe with diner vibes. Love the decor with some fun paintings. Self serve water. The staff are all super friendly and there is some outdoor seating. Wait seems long, but in reality it's way less than staff will tell you because it seems like a lot of people on the waitlist just leave and there is no way to cancel your name until you are offered a table.

With great 90s rock music choices and friendly service, you will have a lovely relaxing brunch with filling and tasty food. If you are close by, give it a chance.

I tried this place for the first time about 5 years ago and didn't like the food. This is an update as to my experience of this place a couple of days ago. What I liked about it was the warm reception and service, but again it was also the service that ended up letting them down. I know...it's a bit of a contradiction. I'll explain. When we arrived, they greeted us with a smile and a warm welcome and took our name down to text us when our table was ready, which was estimated at about 20 min. So, we hung out and after about half hour we checked back in and they told us that they had taken our number down wrong and that our table was ready a while ago, but managed to seat us anyhow. Now as for the food. It took an hour for our brunch to arrive. We were almost going to leave as we had a prior engagement to attend to and were not thinking of such a lengthy time commitment for some eggs and bacon. When it did arrive, it was not worth the wait. I'll tell you why. The Mushroom & Bacon Benny: I personally prefer my Benny on an english muffin...crispy preferably, but this one came on a biscuit and that's fine....I've had them on biscuits before. Have you ever bought a fresh scone or muffin and you let it sit on the counter for a day and then put it in the fridge for another couple of days, and when you take it out it crumbles and you dare not bite into it? Well.....that was the condition of the biscuit my Egg Benny was served on....old, stale and crying to be chucked in the garbage bin. There was barely any bacon even though it was a bacon and mushroom benny and the whole dish looked like it was just thrown together....I mean if you're going to throw together guests' meals ....maybe manage to do it under an hour? The potatoes were cold and they were not fresh. They tasted like left-over potatoes....like, you know when you make fresh food but microwave it the day after? Yeah, it was the day after version. Anyhow, it wasn't even aesthetically charming. The Salmon & Avocado Omelet: The salmon was nice and the avocado was fresh, but the omelet was too thick. You know what happens to an omelet that has too many eggs? It becomes too saturated and thick and ends up tasting rubbery. An omelet should be thin-medium density and tossed in butter at the right amount of time each side, so that it keeps its natural moisture. Why not oil? Because, you can taste oil on eggs....if you like the taste of oil....go with oil. This omelet was rubbery and unseasoned. So, the food was a let down. Specially after waiting an hour. I liked the fact that they had very politely put up a notice of those with children asking them to kindly watch out if their little ones become too noisy. That was the first time I've seen this and was impressed. A consideration and equal respect to those without children wanting to dine in peace and comfort is highly underrated due to today's increasing concierge parenting styles. I really appreciated the business' direct effort and attention to a matter, which is so taboo in the expectation to want to dine in peace without other people's children disrupting, interrupting and disrespecting other diners merely due to the parents' lack of attention to their dependents. Even though I didn't like the food, the sign put a smile on my face (see pic) while we paid the bill and left.

Checking out local cafes is my favourite thing to do but when i am hungry i just go to any random place. Great thing is that this place turned out to become my favourite one. My first visit was before covid when i just enjoyed a cup of coffee on their patio but this last week , i stopped again to try the yummy food. I was delighted to see that new transparent dividers complement the interiors so well that i was comfortably dinning in along with other patrons . Server was so cheerful and happy doing what she does. Food is amazing. Pancake was so soft that it just melted in my mouth. Ham could be more flavourful but it was well done and tasted great. There are many many vegetarian choices plus u can customize everything if you like. I liked everything from service to food to ambiance.

Holiday Chocolate Kugelhopf~ dark chocolate sweet bread studded with chocolate chips, citrus peels, and almond praline, rolled in sugar. I really liked kugelhoph's dough and almond praline! It wasn't too heavy, lighter texture and praline wasn't too sweet. So, sugar coating paired with dough very well. I would like to get this one again! Overall, I really enjoyed both Christmas items. I am writing this review because my email to them went unanswered…read more I am shocked and disappointed at the way I was treated after spending $40. I am a HUGE 49th fan and love their dougnuts and coffee. Whenever I have friends in town, or someone needs a suggestion on where to visit, I always say "49th has really good coffee and doughnuts". Unfortunately, my mind has changed, and I don't see myself ever recommending this location. As an avid coffee drinker, I am pretty picky on where I choose to have coffee and love the cafe culture in Vancouver. My mom loves doughnuts and we had come all the way from Langley for a day in Kits, so I recommended we go to 49th! I spent about $40 on 4 doughnuts, 2 maple sea salt lattes and a drip coffee. The maple sea salt lattes looked beautiful and my doughnut was delicious as usual (big fan of the french crueller). Unfortunately, our maple sea salt lattes were very very strong and had no maple or sea salt flavoring in my opinion. I decided to ask the girl at the register if we could please get a different drink because it was super strong and didn't taste good. I was met with SO much attitude, i was actually shocked. I went into it very friendly and politely asked for an alternate drink as i did spend $12 on these two drinks (and life gets expensive!!). She then goes "well, you probably don't like the taste of coffee then".... I actually didn't know how to respond. But i did say "I'm a huge 49th fan and love coffee!". Then I had asked how many shots are in the small and she said "2". I then had asked if we could get a new/different drink and she goes "I'll give it to you this one time, but next time you'll have to pay." This is NOT the way to treat a paying customer. It felt so rude and accusatory. I very rarely come to Kits, so she wouldn't have recognized me and am an honest girl who works hard for my money. When the customer comes up politely, you offer to make it right. I hope the next person that comes up not satisfied with their drink is treated a lot better than how I was.

They are crusty on the outside, soft yet chewy inside, and just consistently perfect. This one was as good as all the others we've had from here. Yeah! I wanted an Earl Grey tea which IMO is a pretty basic order. Surprisingly, they did not have it. I got a green tea instead (their tea selection was very limited). And the girl who took my order, as well as the girl who rang me up at the cash, could NOT have been more aloof. I smiled and tried to make a little small talk, especially with the girl at the cash when I took out my debit card and asked how to pay (she just pointed at the tap symbol on the machine but my card is not tap-enabled. I always joke with people about this). This girl would not even look at me. Zero eye contact. No "thank you", nada. I just got really cold vibes from the two of them there at the counter. (At least when I picked up my tea at the beverage counter, the guy there made eye contact and semi smiled). (Side note: the staff at the Yaletown site have always been super pleasant and friendly, and this really makes a difference. To me, anyhow). Contrary to another reviewer's posting, the restaurant and the washroom was very clean when I visited here. No issues there. Honestly, I'm not sure I'll return to this site. There are so many cafes and bakeries around, I'd rather go to one with a warmer vibe. Or stay with my Yaletown SV.
