An impromptu brunch on a Monday, we were immediately seated at the end of one of their rushes. You must get their fresh squeezed orange juice. They offer a watermelon one but did not have it that day! Eggs is a hit here but I went rouge and went for their Meunster Grilled Cheese (Artisan sourdough griddled with tarragon butter, caramelized onions, Muenster and aged white cheddar). I paired it with their tomato soup and side salad with their legendary truffle lemon dressing. I LOVE meunster cheese. And pairing it with the caramelized onions, plus hot sauce, and dipping it in the soup, PERFECT! The crust on the sourdough also adds a nice touch. The salad is made with that dressing, adding a nice pop! Great service, atmosphere, and prices! You can also make reservations online. We came here today to try this place out around 11 am and only had to wait about 15 mins to get a table inside. We ordered the portobello mushroom poached egg sandwich with tomato soup which was super delicious. Because today was so rainy, the soup absolutely hit the spot and was very flavourful! They do poached eggs really well. There's a reason it's called Yolks. I'll say just order anything with poached eggs on the menu if you love runny yolks. I have been to Yolks at the old location and I was not impressed much. Now I know it's because I didn't order poached eggs. I had the chicken and waffle then and it was alright. Nothing spectacular. I much prefer this new location. Modern looking and way brighter than the previous one. Lots of tables and a big patio outside. I like how they have several smaller tables which can be combined to accommodate big groups without disrupting other diners. I decided to have the make your own breakfast option. I chose poached eggs, portobello mushrooms, lemon truffle potato and sourdough toast. They were all nicely done. Love the runny yolk. The disappointing part of my meal was the hot chocolate. Despite using callebaut chocolate, it still lacked the rich chocolatey taste. I could taste the chocolate but the entire drink tasted quite diluted though. Skip that if you are a chocolate snob. Still love a Yolks, and it is considered to be consistently delicious. I love how Yolk is BC's oiriginal Brunch spot in Vancouver, but now have a lot of competitors who stepped in within the last couple years to fight for that spot. Remember Yolks used to be at the kitchy corner, and the lines were long just to grab a brunch plate with friends on a Sunday morning, but now it has gone full corporate. I still enjoy their menu though, it hasn't changed much since they have gone corporate. They still have their famous poached eggs with runny yolks. I was told to get their dessert waffles one day and to try out their delicious dessert menu, but I was just so full after my brunch plate I could barely lift my fork. Hasn't changed much, still a very good place for brunch with friends and they can accommodate a good size of people. Pretty good place to just grab and go on with the rest of the day. read more

Almost everyone there, from the host to the upper management, went out of their way to seat me as soon as possible once I arrived. The wait time was minimal, and the server suggestions were solid. Yumm, Yumm, Yumm. I ordered the Double Smoked Bacon Benny and wanted the english muffin to be extra crispy and easy on Hollandaise, and that is exactly what I got! I mean.. you're probably thinking ....well if you asked for it...then obviously you'd be getting it....well...you'd be surprised how that is not the case frequently these days. Our server was great and once the food arrived I asked for some hot sauce and (Lee) asked whether I wanted something hot or more on the spicy sweet....and I asked bring what you have as I like variety. So, he brought me three different types of hot sauce and they all tasted so wonderfully different (see pics). One was sweet but with a kick, the other was "run for your life" hot and the last one was something in-between. Loved all three as I was by the end even dipping my fork in it on its own. The Benny was made to perfection. The english muffin crispy on the bottom and the bacon awesomely crispy and the eggs perfectly soft-medium and the sauce just the right amount. The potatoes were cut fresh and beautifully proportioned and not greasy at all topped with sprinkles of spring onion and yes even they were fresh. My brunch and Yolks really redeemed my experience. I had been to the Yolks on Cambie and Broadway and after a 1.5 hour wait, was so underwhelmed, sad with my portions and felt it was pricey. This was quite some time ago though.. I was feeling sweet which never happens but BOY! The Banana-Nut Belgian Waffle was DELICIOUS! I enjoyed the whole thing and can still taste it in my mouth. It was sweet, but you could add how much whip cream and salted caramel sauce on the side. The bennys were also beautiful but the star of the show crispy hash brown patties. You see, looking at their sides, my eyes would dart to the truffle-lemon potatoes, which I think I got the last time I went and felt sad. These hash browns = instant happiness. Also, their bennys are very aesthetically beautiful. Yolks is worth the hype. I'm not sure a 1.5 hour wait necessarily.. but their food is damn tasty. I'm somewhat of a regular customer here, and my experience has always been good. That being said, some days have been better than others. First, you have to be strategic about when you go, otherwise you can be waiting outside for over an hour. I find the best time to be weekdays before noon or after 2. Second, be mindful of what you order. Prices are on the higher end for brunch, so you want to get something amazing--otherwise you'll be left a bit disappointed. Ask your server for their recommendations! Whenever I've done this, I've enjoyed my food the most. The chicken and waffles, for example, are amazing. However, my favourite dish is the classic Yolks breakfast, because of the perfectly poached eggs (you could pick a different preparation, but trust me, this is the way to go. They're not exaggerating when they say the eggs are perfectly poached) and crispy hashbrown patties (again, you can pick something else, but why would you? XD). The two dishes mentioned above are regulars, but Yolks recently introduced new menu options, like the scotch egg. I had it the last time I went and did not find it as exceptional as I expected it to be (it got over-hyped). Mainly for this reason, I'm giving Yolks 3 stars. read more

Me and two friends came at around 1130 and ordered the beast benny, which was a special menu item (bacon, eggs, avocado, spinach, toast). Yolks is definitely not what it used to be and has gone down in quality. To begin, the eggs weren't really runny at all; we asked for soft boiled and the bread was hard to chew. The ambience is cute and casual, the service is decent and you have the option of choosing between bechamel and hollandaise sauce. We ended up sitting outside, which was really nice. I had the salmon benny. It was really good and filling. I was barely able to have it all. It was definitely worth getting the hollandaise sauce because bechamel may have been too heavy. I've always had Yolks on my radar, and I'm delighted to say I finally got the opportunity to have Brunch there the other day. Armed with the handy dandy online waitlist (available on their website), we decided to try for a late brunch at the Hastings Street location and hoped there would be easy-to-find parking close by. (Spoiler alert: we were not disappointed). This location has a fairly large patio space and a 45 minute dining limit, so the names on the waitlist went by fast and we were seated promptly. I was mightily impressed at the dividers between the tables; they definitely looked to be well constructed and permanent almost to the point we felt like we had our own private booth. I had a great time grooving to the oldies (yes, songs my parents would know), and the infectious upbeat energy from our waitress did the rest. The fiancé chose the Chicken and Waffles and after much indecision I once again settled on something fishy: House-Cured Wild BC Salmon & Fresh Avocado. I did have one tiny reservation about the dishes at Yolks, because they advertised "perfectly poached eggs" instead of some establishments giving customers a choice of poached soft, medium or hard. Besides going with the flow of letting them decide how to poach the eggs (didn't have much choice), I was a rebel and chose the aged white cheddar sauce instead of traditional hollandaise. Honestly, I'm glad on both accounts. While I normally love poached hard eggs (and realize it's not that much different from hardboiled eggs), the perfectly poached eggs were...well... a perfect accompaniment to the double toasted English Muffin. Yolk oozed all over the muffin, but the muffin miraculously remained well toasted. It was the best benny/english muffin I have tasted in my life, accompanied by delicious potatoes and a very generous serving of Avocado. The cheese sauce? I'm so glad I tried something different; I could have almost eaten the sauce with a spoon, but I did hold back and shared the sauce with the fiancé. I admit it, two tiny reasons are keeping me from giving a 5 star rating. One is the waitlist. After being spoiled by the OEB waitlist experience (where Yelp would try to help us estimate the time to put our names down), Yolks has a much simpler waitlist function. There is no estimated times available, so we juggled between not wanting to put our names down too late (and having to wait a long time), and putting our names down too early and not being at the restaurant when our table would be ready. I'm not sure if it was because we went at a later brunch time, or if it was because of a 45 minute dining limit, but the list moved so fast I ended up having to take my name off the waitlist and put it back on again (and hope the staff would not be silently cursing me). Secondly, even though there seemed to be other tables available, we were seated at a booth at the very end right outside the washrooms and the coffee station and the terminal where orders were put in. Didn't give me as much of a "private dining" experience as I would have liked with the staff always hovering there to enter in their orders and refill on coffee, but both minor things. For the record, it has not dampened my wish to now have a future brunch experience at the other Yolks location. Thanks Yolks! read more

This place used to hit to the mark every time. In the past year I've ordered to go the quality of care has declined. This is the second time in the past 6 months I've ordered this to go and had a problem that doesn't quite ruin the meal but isn't a joy to eat either. This time the hollandaise had solidified and tasted funny and a little too salty. See below where I give it the Dairy Queen blizzard test. Reheating could cause to it curdle and didn't have the products to try fixing/recreating on hand. Safe to say that I will no longer be supporting Yolks. Not in this economy, please do better. I cannot believe I waited so long to go to Yolks...what have I been doing with my life and where did I go wrong? I'm ashamed to say that despite being a 270lb man that loves his breakfast, and worked across the street from this wonderful establishment I only recently visited for the first time. I should have known by the lineups sometimes going around the corner that this spot was going to deliver. Personally I'm not a big eggs Benny fan but Yolks has plenty more to offer. I had the chicken & wafffles (10/10) as well as the French toast (11/10) and I may have ordered the side of potatoes as well, don't judge. Everything was amazing and I can't wait to go back. The restaurant itself is pretty basic, and when we went they still had dividers up. The table/booth setup seemed a little bit "ikea" style and isn't the most glamorous or comfortable but that's not what you go to Yolks for. Looking for tasty/unique breakfast options? Here's the thing: if your restaurant is called Yolks, there's one thing that really needs to be right. Our benedicts were good, except for the eggs! Specifically the yolks -- they were pale yellow, runny, and unappetizing. Was it just a bad week for BC eggs? Evidently not, since the next day, another restaurant served us eggs with a perfect deep-orange colour and gooey texture. Nothing went seriously wrong, but it wasn't a great first impression, and we've since found other good brunch spots in the neighbourhood. read more

The new location on Hastings looks bright with lots of windows for natural lighting . The tables were set up very close together in order to keep wait times short. Some booth seating as well. I ordered the benny special - Duck Confit on potatoes The Hollandaise was nicely done and well seasoned. Duck Confit was very tasty and tender. A bit pricey but has a decent kids menu and for the parents lots of selection and really good Benny's. the service is good, one thing to add is the seats are not comfortable and you can feel the person behind you moving and kicking..this hasn't always been a problem but maybe they changed the wood they used since covid to make it more thin and flimsy but it does kinda ruin the vibe sometimes.
